I have been thinking the very same thing .. Like others have pointed out, TPTB have been creating an extensive infrastructure to work from home.
I lost my job 2 days ago and while looking for work, I have noticed many available IT positions deal with remote accessibility through Citrix and other advanced 3D facilities. They have pumped way too much money worldwide on this effort to not have a clear plan in mind.

I'm not sure I follow - is the suggestion that these provisions are being made to protect the high-tech workforce (by keeping them at home) that will be required to run the apparatus of control if a pandemic hits?

Well this ensures Business Continuity in case of an Outbreak that will force everyone to stay at home, for lets say 14 days. The Butcher the baker and the candlestick maker will have severe losses because they will be closed and nobody will be walking into the store.
What about food?
Would local authorities drive around in some massive 'meals-on-wheels' program?

Vaccines infected with deadly avian flu virus
12 March 2009

A large consignment of seasonal flu vaccine, which was due to be circulated to 18 European countries, has been infected with deadly live avian flu virus. Had the contamination not been detected, the vaccines may have started an avian flu pandemic, killing hundreds of thousands of people.
(It was actually only three labs that the virus got sent to, not 18)

The World Health Organization is carrying out investigations at the Austrian research facility of Baxter International, the pharmaceutical company, where the contamination happened.  Baxter has confirmed that the consignment contained live H5N1 virus, which causes avian flu.

A researcher in the Czech Republic discovered the lethal contamination when laboratory ferrets that he had injected with the H3N2 flu vaccine suddenly died.  The H5N1 virus becomes lethal as an injection only when it is mixed with H3N2, a process known as reassortment.

The WHO investigation team says it doesn’t have evidence to suggest that Baxter had deliberately reassorted the two viruses, but “what remains unanswered are the circumstances surrounding the incident in the Baxter facility,” a WHO official said.

Despite dire warnings from health officials, no avian flu pandemic has occurred as human-to-human infection hasn’t happened.  So far, several hundred people have died after catching the virus from poultry, although governments have warned that millions would die if people could infect each other.

Baxter is currently working on a new type of avian flu vaccine, called Celvapan, which is based on cell culture technology.
The technology, which is being developed at Baxter’s research facility in the Czech Republic, by-passes the conventional process where a virus is incubated in chicken eggs.  Instead, Baxter is working with the ‘native’ virus that does not need to be modified.

Last year the vaccine passed the first two phases of safety trials, and Baxter announced that “Celvapan combines innovative science and breakthrough production technology with the aim of protecting people against an H5N1 pandemic flu infection.”

GENEVA and SINGAPORE, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- STMicroelectronics and Veredus Laboratories today announced that they are developing a fast, point-of-need diagnostic capability that will enable health practitioners to quickly detect strains of Avian Flu and other influenza viruses. The diagnostic capability, which uses reliable and inexpensive equipment, produces results within approximately one hour of testing.

Using STMicroelectronics' well-characterized In-Check (TM) platform, Veredus is developing an application to specifically identify whether a patient is infected with the Avian Flu (H5N1) or a subtype of Influenza A or B in a single test, instead of requiring many tests, as needed currently. To be available in time for the next flu season, the single-test application will be a substantial breakthrough in enabling rapid identification of the infectious agent to limit the spread of the disease and speed patients' treatment.

The diagnostic effort is being built on STMicroelectronics' In-Check platform, a complete laboratory on a chip. The platform allows users to accurately and reliably perform the complex processing and analysis of a minute sample on a single disposable chip, dramatically reducing the time and complexity of the instrumentation needed. In addition, this self-contained lab-on-chip approach reduces the risk of cross-contamination inherent in conventional analysis methods. Results are detected by a dedicated portable reader using optical signal acquisition and processed by ST's specialized bioinformatics software, which can be installed on any PC.

Can't tell if it's a implantable microchip or some sort of gizmo you hold.

I think it's just a miniature lab set -- like a field kit to test for the presense of drugs. The word chip has me confused though.

Looks like portable lab equipment for quick flu detection where fluid samples are swabbed onto the chip then processed in a 20lb desktop sized device.  I don’t see anything implantable.

I don't know if this had anything to do with the "accident", but Baxter was recently had a "change in management".
They were bought by Bioniche Pharmaceuticals on July 2, 2008.

Does anyone know anything about this company?

Looks like they do alot of animal vaccines. E Coli for cattle. I did not realise that cattle got e coli. hmm...

 What is Escherichia coli (E. coli) 0157:H7 infection?
E. coli are bacteria that normally live in the intestines of humans and animals. Although most strains of this bacteria are harmless, several are known to produce toxins that can cause diarrhea. One particular E. coli strain called 0157:H7 can cause severe diarrhea and kidney damage.

Who gets E. coli 0157:H7 infection?
Anyone of any age can become infected with E. coli 0157:H7, but children and the elderly are more likely to develop serious complications.

How does one get infected with E. coli 0157:H7?
The bacteria are acquired by eating food containing the bacteria. The bacteria live in the intestines of some healthy cattle, and contamination of the meat may occur in the slaughtering process. Eating meat that is rare or inadequately cooked is the most common way of getting the infection. Infection can also occur after consuming foods such as lettuce, alfalfa sprouts, salami, and unpasteurized milk, juice or cider. Person-to-person transmission can occur if infected people do not wash their hands after using the toilet.

What are the symptoms of E. coli 0157:H7 infection?
People infected by E. coli 0157:H7 can develop a range of symptoms. Some infected people may have mild diarrhea or no symptoms at all. Most identified cases develop severe diarrhea and abdominal cramps. Blood is often seen in the stool. Usually little or no fever is present.

How soon after exposure do symptoms appear?
The symptoms usually appear about three days after exposure, with a range of one to nine days.

How is infection with E. coli 0157:H7 diagnosed?
Infection with E. coli 0157:H7 can only be diagnosed by a special stool culture that is not performed in many laboratories. Public health authorities have advised doctors and laboratories to consider performing a special stool culture test for E. coli 0157:H7 particularly in people with bloody diarrhea.

What is the treatment for infection with E. coli 0157:H7?
Most people recover without specific treatment in five to 10 days. Antibiotics should not be used for the treatment of E. coli 0157:H7 infection. Studies have shown that some antibiotics may increase the risk of complications.

What complications can result from infection with E. coli 0157:H7?
In some people, particularly children under five years of age, the infection can cause a complication called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). This is a serious disease in which red blood cells are destroyed and the kidneys fail. Transfusions of blood or blood clotting factors as well as kidney dialysis may be necessary. A prolonged hospital stay is often required. Fortunately, most people with HUS recover completely, but it can be fatal.

How can infection with E. coli 0157:H7 be prevented?
Do not eat undercooked hamburger or other ground beef products. Cook all ground beef and hamburger thoroughly. Make sure the cooked meat is brown throughout (not pink), and the juices run clear. Drink only pasteurized milk, juice or cider. Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly, especially those that will not be cooked. Children under five years, immunocompromised persons, and the elderly should avoid eating alfalfa sprouts. Make sure infected people, especially children, wash their hands carefully with soap after using the toilet to reduce the risk of spreading the disease.

There is a really great natural mineral that I've been using for 2 years and now my family is cured of MRSA, Herpes and high blood pressure. We made it in our kitchen!!!

What are you, a conspiracy theorist? People make mistakes. I made my wife dinner last week and she dropped dead, it turned out I accidentally contaminated it with some arsenic. These things happen.

Baxter is a good company, they'd never do such a thing on purpose. In fact, when they went to high-risk populations like gays, drug abusers and prisoners, got their blood, and shipped it out of the country when they could no longer sell it in the US because of HIV this was all a giant accident:
