Depends

For most people, there is not enough wind to generate enough power.

Its all dependant on were you live, and then controled by the authorities. Wait till you want to errect a tower with a wind turbine to find out how green your local authority really is....

We can make ourselves less power dependant, but things that they encourage us to use like computers, tv etc.. chew vast amounts of electric.

I am all in favour of extrcting as much free power as possible, but a change in manufactured appliances to use less electric makes more sense, like 500W power supplies to computers forinstance.

You can still learn how to run your car on water here by clicking here

Making your own solar panels is very good as it is sunny mostly everywhere and there are few to no laws regarding it...

The wind towers though will cause un needed attention...

I posted about a new wind turbine made by a German company here.

http://forum.prisonplanet.com/index.php?topic=68696.0

Inventor says 3000-8000 kwh per year so basicly 2 should be enough to run a house. I think its much more reliable than solar and much more productive. Also this turbine already runs at very low windspeeds.

Where does he live, how much kwh per year does he generate and what is the total size of all panels together?

If you could get the government to pay you to make your own energy would you do it?

If you put your own system up, you still have to have it inspected. If the system is not 80% efficient, you will not be able to receive any federal credits, state rebates, or receive any solar renewable energy credits. Since there is no official "solar installer" job title, you have to have a licensed electrician plug everything in. Your utility company then will come out and connect your house to the utility.
