Endgame in a kid's book?!

This is really weird. This kid grows up in a dystopian socialist society. Really good book, though. Written in 1993 and banned in a lot of places around the world.

 What-the-hell.  That book got a Newbury award and I never heard of it?   Creepy.  Might be good to sneak in the local library.
Page 79 is right out of Orwell's 1984 telescreen..except as a speaker..."You can (turn it off)!
