Woman killed while protecting rabbi during shooting

(CNN)When a gunman opened fire in a synagogue in California, killing one and injuring three others, Lori Kaye jumped between the shooter and the rabbi.
Kaye, 60, was shot at the synagogue and died at a nearby hospital.
In addition to Kaye, at least three others were wounded in the shooting Saturday at Congregation Chabad in Poway, north of San Diego. By late Sunday morning, all three injured victims had been discharged from a hospital.
Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, 57, had been shot in the hand when Kaye stepped between him and the gunman. The rabbi suffered what looked like defensive wounds to both his index fingers, a doctor at the Palomar Medical Center said.

Lori Kaye was killed in a shooting at Congregation Chabad on the last day of Passover.

Source: Armed Parishioner Gave Gun to Off-duty Border Patrol Agent at Poway Synagogue
27 Apr 2019

A source in the San Diego Jewish community told Breitbart News on Saturday evening that the U.S. Border Patrol agent who chased the shooter at a Poway, California, synagogue earlier was given a gun by an armed parishioner.

The congregant had come to the synagogue to say Yizkor, the memorial prayer for the dead, as is customary on the last day of Passover, which coincided with the Jewish Sabbath. He had brought a gun in his tallis (prayer shawl) bag as a precaution.

When the shooting started, according to the source, the congregant handed the gun to an off-duty Border Patrol agent, telling him that he knew better what to do with the gun than the congregant himself.

The synagogue, Chabad of Poway, has taken many security precautions in the past, given the risk of antisemitic violence, according to the source.

Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole ; He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee. - Job 5

Silicon Valley car-ramming suspect drove into people thinking some were Muslim, police believe ? National
April 26, 2019

Isaiah Peoples, an Iraq War vet said to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), allegedly ran his car into eight people at an intersection in Sunnyvale, Calif.
because he believed some of them were Muslim, police in the Silicon Valley suburb said Friday.

Peoples has been charged with eight counts of attempted murder after the incident, which unfolded on Tuesday, NBC Bay Area reported.

Based on our investigation, new evidence shows that the defendant intentionally targeted victims based on their race and his belief that they were of the Muslim faith,? said Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Chief Phan S. Ngo, as reported by CBS affiliate KPIX.

The incident saw eight people targeted, including a 13-year-old girl who was left in a coma, the network added.

Police said the suspect showed no remorse after it happened.

There were four people in hospital as of Friday afternoon.

They included Ping Lu, a 51-year-old who was left with numerous broken limbs, and Marina Reimler, a 32-year-old who sustained a broken arm and leg.

Leevell said her son was forced to retire because of the PTSD.

Leevell said Isaiah had a bad PTSD episode two years ago and that he had been taking medication ever since.

Isaiah Peoples is the man accused of intentionally plowing his car into a group of people in Sunnyvale, California, on April 23. Sunnyvale is located just to the west of San Jose, close to Silicon Valley. Authorities have said that they are recommending that Peoples face eight counts of attempted murder.
The driver of the car, a black 2010 Toyota Corolla, was taken into custody at the scene after he crashed the car into a tree. That car is registered to Peoples. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Peoples? registration was revoked before the incident as Peoples attempted to pay a fee with a bad check.

1. Witnesses Said Peoples ?Praised Jesus? After His Arrest
?He kept repeating, mumbling over and over again, ?Jesus, I love you.? He seemed to be dazed. At this point, I walked back from where the car was, toward the intersection and dialed 911. I was so nervous and upset, I was having trouble dialing.? Draper then reiterated that he heard the driver say, ?Jesus, I love you.?

Draper said that Peoples laid face down on the ground after crashing his car and waiting for officers to arrest him.
