Will France and Turkey Go to War Over Syria Now?
« on: April 03, 2018, 06:13:15 pm »

Paris has warned Ankara twice in recent weeks as President Trump prepares to let Emmanuel Macron take a lead role.

Now that President Donald Trump has made it entirely clear that he’s pulling U.S. troops out of Syria sooner than later, it seems a fissure has erupted in Turkey’s relationship with the West.

Reuters is reporting that France is now looking to increase its military presence in lieu of the U.S. to help the coalition that seeks to oust Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. It quotes a source in the Elysee Palace that says French President Emmanuel Macron has warned his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, that any attack on Kurdish forces currently backed by the U.S. in the Manbij region would be “unacceptable.”

Last week, Macron met with members of the Syrian Democratic Forces leadership, which included members of the Kurdish YPG, a group Turkey has designated as a “terrorist organization.” In that meeting, according to a “senior Kurdish official,” the French leader promised to send more troops to back the coalition effort, and to serve as a buffer between the Kurds and Turkey.

Macron’s government dismissed the Reuters report, but said they were interested in mediating negotiations between Turkey and the Kurdish militia. Ankara immediately rejected the proposal.

The timing of both Macron’s meeting and President Trump’s announcement about Syria seems to suggest Washington is willing to take a backseat—at least for now—to Paris. But is France willing to go to war with its NATO ally—Turkey—as a result?

Last month, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency reported that France’s top military officer warned Ankara that his forces already possessed the means to act independently of the U.S. in Syria in response to the Syrian government’s alleged use of chemical weapons. Last week, it published a map showing all of the French installations in northern Syria from which it could launch “an invasion.”

I can't hardly believe that this Chemical Weapons BS still has traction; it has be so so discredited, that to start anything against Syria is simply out right lying.
What do you under-stand?

Macron Claims ‘Proof’ but OPCW Team Hasn’t Arrived
« Reply #3 on: April 13, 2018, 08:50:41 am »

Investigative team is expected to begin working in Syria on Saturday.

French President Emmanuel Macron claimed Thursday evening that his country has “proof” that the Syrian government used chemical weapons against the people of Douma last weekend.

Speaking to France’s TF1 network, he said:

“We have the proof that chemical weapons—at least chlorine gas—were used by Assad’s regime.”

Macron pledged his support for a U.S. military operation against Syria and said it would occur whenever it would be “most effective” to do so. His support for a military engagement—which threatens to drag Syria’s allies Russia and Iran into a much broader conflict—was also echoed by British Prime Minister Theresa May, who has gained the support of her Cabinet for the use of military force.

May, however, has demanded proof from a “neutral” source, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. OPCW announced it has dispatched a team to assess the alleged attack and determine who was responsible, but it will not disclose details of that investigative mission out of security concerns.

OPCW, through its official Twitter account, stated the investigative team will arrive in Syria and begin its work Saturday. The Financial Times reported Thursday evening that the mission will likely take “several weeks” to come to a conclusion.

The U.S. has said it has obtained blood and urine samples from alleged victims that tested positive for both chlorine gas and a nerve agent. Officially, however, the White House says the intelligence is still being analyzed, although it is confident the Syrian government gassed its own people.

Germany and Italy, both of which are heavily dependent upon Russian oil and natural gas, have declined to participate in any military campaign.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Friday morning that he has his own irrefutable evidence that the Douma attack was staged by one country—he didn’t name that country—as part of a “Russophobic campaign” against Moscow. He also announced Russia has requested a United Nations Security Council meeting later today.

The Russian Defense Ministry has made it clear that any such attack on Syria would risk World War III.
