Boris Warns Brexit Plan Akin to Titanic Heading Toward Doom
    Dara Doyle
Nov 24 2018, 8:23 AM

(Bloomberg) -- Boris Johnson said the U.K. is on the brink of a ?historic mistake,? comparing Theresa May?s Brexit plan to the Titanic heading toward disaster.

To help avoid the return of checkpoints on the Irish border, May?s deal suggests the entire U.K. could remain in a customs union with the EU until a better solution is found. But Northern Ireland will also keep many of the EU?s rules -- and that means added checks on goods arriving from mainland Britain.

?The Titanic springs to mind, and now is the time to point the iceberg ahead,? Johnson, the U.K.?s former Foreign Secretary, said in a speech at the Democratic Unionist Party conference in Belfast on Saturday. ?This deal risks further economic and political humiliation.? His speech received a standing ovation.

Johnson called on May to ?junk? the so-called backstop, which he said risks leaving the U.K. as a ?satellite state.? Both the U.K. and EU say they want to avoid the backstop ever being triggered, but so far that hasn?t been enough to reassure the DUP, whose 10 lawmakers keep May in power.

The EU could yet demand the U.K. accept a ?special deal on immigration?, Johnson said, seeking to raise doubts around one of the key benefits May says flow from her deal -- ending freedom of movement.

ANGELA Merkel has suggested countries should be willing to give up control over their own affairs and let organisations such as the European Union have more power in a veiled swipe at Brexit, as the German Chancellor threatens to derail Britain's exit from the bloc.

?It?s crap?: at Brexit?s ground-zero, voters slam Theresa May?s draft deal, saying they want clean break instead

Three quarters of the English town of Boston voted in favour of Brexit in 2016, and its residents are not happy

In the eastern English town of Boston, ground-zero for Brexit in the 2016 referendum, voters voiced little support Wednesday for Prime Minister Theresa May?s long-awaited deal.

LISTEN ? Nigel Farage Tells Breitbart: May?s Brexit Betrayal is Like ?Voluntarily Going to Prison?

...
?Although we are leaving, [Theresa May] signed us up to a new series of arrangements which mean we?re going to be giving away up to ?60 billion to remain trapped inside the EU?s customs union which effectively means they make all the laws for our businesses and industry? we?ll have to take laws without any say.

?This really is taxation without representation.?

Mr Farage also spoke on the complex arrangements created by Theresa May that would have the impact of keeping the UK in the EU indefinitely. He said these: ???effectively means we won?t be able to leave that customs union and take back full control at any point in the future unless the European Union agrees to it.

?It is rather like voluntarily going into prison for a period of time, and when you want to leave, [asking] ?you won?t let me out, won?t you?! It?s complete madness, and I?ve branded this as the worst deal in history.
...
?The problem is we?re faced with Brexit in name only, we?re leaving the treaties but effectively we aren?t getting back control of our money, our laws, or our borders. As you can imagine, there is considerable anger brewing in the country.?

'You called me nebulous!': Lipreaders reveal what furious Theresa May said to Jean-Claude Juncker as she handbagged him over his late-night jibe in Brussels following collapse of Brexit talks

Theresa May seen on camera in tense standoff with EU commission president Jean-Claude Juncker at summit
Mr Juncker launched an extraordinary attack on the UK's new demands as 'nebulous imprecise' last night
Mrs May said she was 'robust' with Mr Juncker and 'crystal clear' with leaders about what she needs on Brexit
The rescue mission came after she scraped through Tory vote of no confidence by a margin of 200 to 117 MPs
She had hoped to wring more 'legally binding' concessions from EU leaders over the Irish border backstop

...

Although the sound was switched off, TV cameras caught the pair exchanging heated words for at least a minute.

Lipreaders said the exchange began with Mrs May saying: ''What did you call me? You called me nebulous.'

Mr Juncker seemingly failed to understand, and asked her to repeat herself.

Mrs May then spelled out the word 'nebulous' slowly.

As the camera moved around behind them a clearly frustrated Mrs May said: 'Nebulous, yes you did.'

But Mr Juncker says: 'No, I didn't, I didn't.'

During Mrs May's tirade Mr Juncker, who had one hand on Mrs May's arm, looked to be trying to soothe her anger by denying making the jibe.

But body language experts said Mrs May successfully disrupted Mr Juncker's usual 'Godfather' demeanour and put him on the back foot.

The clash could garner Mrs May some much needed points with Tory Eurosceptics and the DUP at home, as she struggles to find a way through the Parliamentary impasse over Brexit.

Delingpole: Looming Brexit Betrayal ? It?s Even Worse than You Feared?
14 Dec 2018

I have some inside dirt on the ongoing betrayal of Brexit by our liberal elite Establishment. The news is not good. Here is what I hear:

European Research Group ? hoist by their own petard.

Remainers have been having an absolute field day crowing about the failure of Brexiteer Tory MPs to unseat Theresa May in Wednesday?s confidence vote.
Why on earth did they time it so badly ? submitting those 48 letters at a moment when they were almost certain to lose the vote? The story I hear is that they didn?t. The timing was decided for them by none other than May?s hamster-faced Chief of Staff Gavin Barwell who, it is said, deliberately released some of the 48 letters which had previously been withheld in order to force the issue.
...

It?s becoming increasingly clear, isn?t it, that all the events leading up to Brexit referendum vote in June 2016 were completely irrelevant. Worse, the victory won by the 17.4 million people who voted Brexit, was an illusory triumph. So busy were the Brexiteers celebrating and imagining that they had won that they didn?t notice the galvanising effect this had on the Remainer Establishment ? which only redoubled its efforts to make sure Brexit never happened.

This is all going to get very ugly, isn?t it?

BoJo: Britain Must Prepare for Clean Break from EU
17 Dec 2018

Brexiteer Boris Johnson has said talk of a second referendum ?undermines our negotiating credibility further? with the EU, and that the UK should prepare for a clean break from the bloc.

Writing that no-one who voted Leave in June 2016 voted to be in a ?half-way house? where the United Kingdom would ?abandon control of our own laws and trade policy to Brussels,? the former foreign secretary weighed in on reports that Prime Minister Theresa May?s closest allies were plotting a second referendum.

?If that is true, and if people in Downing Street have really been discussing a second referendum ? whether seriously or just in the hope of scaring MPs to vote for this lamentable deal ? then all I can say is that they must be out of their minds,? Mr Johnson wrote in The Telegraph.

MPs Threaten Government Shutdown to Stop No Deal Brexit

6 Jan 20191,441
2:50
A group of Remainer MPs will attempt to stop a no deal Brexit by starving the Treasury of funds which could lead to ?total paralysis? of the Government.

The MPs are set to vote on two amendments to the Finance Bill, which grants funds to the Treasury to spend on implementing no deal arrangements, on Tuesday.

Labour?s Yvette Cooper MP, who leads the group that includes former Tory ministers Nicky Morgan, Oliver Letwin, and Nick Boles, said, ?Our amendment would block some of the Treasury?s no-deal powers unless parliament has explicitly voted for no deal or unless the government has requested an extension of article 50.?

...

May?s withdrawal agreement has found opposition from Brexiteers resulting in the prime minister postponing the House of Commons vote before Christmas in face of certain defeat ? mainly over the issue of the Irish backstop which could see Northern Ireland locked into regulatory alignment with the bloc after the transition period, should London and Brussels not strike a deal, in order to stop a so-called ?hard border? with EU member state Republic of Ireland.
...

... Tory MP Peter Bone told Sky News?s Sophy Ridge on Sunday.

?The only way you?re going to get on and deliver Brexit is what?s called a ?no deal? Brexit. And then at the end of March we?ll be out of the EU and we will have left.

?There was no question, that I remember, on the referendum about a ?deal? or not; it was ?leave? or ?remain.? And the way you leave is to come out on the 29th of March.?

Theresa May urges MPs to support her Brexit deal in last-ditch plea

(CNN)Brexit might never happen if lawmakers vote down the deal the British government has negotiated with the European Union, British Prime Minister Theresa May warned on Monday.

Making a last-minute plea to save her beleaguered deal, May warned that a rejection in parliament on Tuesday could destroy people's trust in politics, lead to the reversal of Brexit and even the breakup of the United Kingdom.

May urged lawmakers to take a "second look" at her deal, and warned that historians would judge them harshly if they didn't support it.

Theresa May?s Brexit plan rejected by British parliament
Published time: 15 Jan, 2019
https://www.rt.com/uk/448889-uk-brexit-plan-rejected/

The Brexit deal, painstakingly agreed upon with the EU by PM Theresa May last year, has ultimately flopped, as MPs said a firm no. The failure brings even more uncertainty to the fate of May?s cabinet and the whole Brexit process.

UK parliament voted down May?s Brexit plan on Tuesday by 432 votes to 202 ? a margin of 230 ? following lengthy debates on the matter. The vote was originally set to be held in mid-December, but was postponed amid fears that MPs would reject the unpopular deal between May and Brussels.

The delay failed to prompt any meaningful changes to aid the PM's cause, as it was ultimately rejected by parliament. The development comes just 10 weeks before the UK is set to leave the EU, bringing even more uncertainty to the already turbulent Brexit process.

May To Skip Davos, No-Deal Brexit Odds Greater Than Many Think

Authored by Mike Shedlock via MishTalk,

May survived a vote of no confidence and the EU might extend Article 50, but only with conditions. Nothing's changed.

...
Standing With My Analysis

Counting of the financial markets to ascertain the outcome seems more than a bit silly. The Financial markets never thought people would vote for the referendum, but they did.

My comments in Mish vs. Eurointelligence were presented before the Eurointelligence report came out.

I am standing with my analysis and Eurointelligence reached a similar conclusion today. There may be an extension and an extension is needed, not to prevent Brexit but rather to better manage a WTO-Brexit.

Let's stop the absurd fearmongering, without which there would likely be overwhelming support for a managed WTO-Brexit. The extension is necessary only because May wasted two years negotiating the worst trade deal in history.
