2015 ~ State of the Union Address
« on: January 20, 2015, 03:41:21 pm »

… let's all watch (NOT!) as the POTUS proposes a long
wish list of freebie givaways to entice more votes from their
poor, starving, dirt floor constituency, LOL.

Free college … Hi-speed WiFi … AND an OBAMAPHONE!   ::)

Creepy Joe has dashed out a fund-raiser eMail in advance
of OBOLA'S big moment to try and get those RAGAMUFFINS
to dish out up to $2,000 each for the cause:

SOTU: Biden pitches 'free' stuff

BY PAUL BEDARD | JANUARY 20, 2015

Vice President Joe Biden is playing the role of President Obama’s pitch man in advance of the State of the Union address Tuesday night, promoting the “free” stuff the White House is offering to build support for the agenda called “DOA” by the GOP.

In a State of the Union address fundraising email for the Democratic Party, Biden pushed the promise of free community college and better high-speed internet.

He did not mention the proposed $320 billion in taxes the White House is also heralding.

HERE'S THE eMAIL:

Quote
Friend --

Tonight, Barack will give a State of the Union address to the last Congress he'll serve with -- and it's gonna be good.

You'll want to tune in.

Everything the President proposes tonight is ambitious, but doable -- like two years of free community college for everyone who will go there and work hard, better high speed internet access for more Americans, making homeownership more accessible and affordable, and more of the things we've always wanted to achieve.

So keep this email on hand while you watch, and if you're feeling fired up to go make these things happen, just chip in.

I'll keep you updated -- but I have to run. See you tonight,

Joe

Iowa's new Senator, Joni Ernst, to deliver the rebuttal tonight.
This is a big moment for this rising new Repub star and
the Senate's first female veteran.

"
When U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa steps forward Tuesday night to offer the Republican rebuttal, political experts say she'll need a clean and polished delivery as she outlines her party's counterpoints. For Ernst, who joined the Senate just weeks ago, the speech offers a national stage and positioning as the face of her party.

WOW, so far so good, any comments.

Ernst has expressed her support for allowing law-abiding citizens to "freely carry" weapons but abide by rules against carrying in public buildings like schools.[22] In February 2013, Ernst co-sponsored a resolution addressing "the Iowa General Assembly's refusal to recognize or support any statutes, presidential directives, or other regulations and proclamations which conflict with the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States and which are expressly preempted by the rulings of the United States Supreme Court”.[23][24] She has also received an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association for her support of gun-rights issues.[25]

As an Iowa state senator, Ernst co-sponsored resolutions concerning state nullification of federal law. One such bill asserted that Iowa could ignore any federal laws which "are directly in violation of the Tenth Amendment," while another "urg[ed] the nullification" of certain EPA regulations related to coal-fired electricity plants.[26][27] In a September 2013 forum held by the Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition, Ernst said Congress shouldn't bother to pass laws "that the states would consider nullifying", referring to what she describes as "200-plus years of federal legislators going against the Tenth Amendment's states' rights."[28] Courts have consistently ruled that nullification is unconstitutional.[28] During the 2014 Senatorial general election, Ernst's supporters argued that she did not support nullification, and that "her comments on it were about encouraging Iowans to send her to Washington to pass good laws."[26]

When asked at a Montgomery County, Iowa candidate forum in January 2014, about the Supreme Court case about the constitutionality of President Barack Obama's recess appointments, she said that Obama had "become a dictator",[29] and that if he acted unconstitutionally, he should face the proper repercussions as determined by Congress, "whether that's removal from office, whether that's impeachment." When the tape of that event was published in August 2014 by Yahoo News, her spokeswoman said that "If any president oversteps their bounds, there are procedures in place for Congress and the American people to hold him or her accountable. Impeachment is a strong word and should not be thrown around lightly.”[30]

… there he goes again.   8)

"
The centerpiece of Obama's economic proposal was an increase in the capital gains rate on couples making more than $500,000 annually, to 28 percent. The president's tax plan would also require estates to pay capital gains taxes on securities at the time they're inherited and slap a fee on the roughly 100 U.S. financial firms with assets of more than $50 billion.

Much of the $320 billion in new taxes and fees would be used for measures aimed at helping the middle class, including a $500 tax credit for some families with two spouses working, expansion of the child care tax credit and a $60 billion program to make community college free.

… he knows this Tax-the-"rich" scheme … this Robin Hood wet dream …
is TOTALLY DOA w/the Rep Congress … it is ALL politics, to try and
paint the Reps as crazed head-chopping terroists.

I never bother reading the comments, its full of the usual useful idiots, and paid online trolls.

If we had access to the server logs, then you could check out the IP addresses of all those internet low lifes, and we would find that 95% of them trace back not to Verizon, AT&T, Comcast, Sky, or other domestic households, but Data Centres.

I would like to see a plug-in that does not show the posters IP address, but did show who was using a regular ISP and who was not . . .

They could also easily add a country flag by each persons name . . . we could then see the paid trolls changing country faster than a jet air plane.

conversation.

The trolls try and derail the topic and aim target comments at the newbies.

On the other hand, they do provide drama so they actually drive traffic and activity. They also act in such an unreasonable manner that they discredit themselves and the ideas associated with them. Its not quiet classic 'blowback', but these attacks, while thoroughly unpleasant, are a win for the truth movement. Alex vocalizes this when he rambles on about "the more you attack us, the more we win". Well, it is true, but distasteful all the same.

As for Obama, it amuses me to think that he only reads the autocue, he does not write his own speeches, so why should anyone take any notice ?

I suppose we who are awake, are all to painfully aware that he is a puppet on a string, and so we listen to hear what his masters might be thinking. However, the mainstream media, going on their own reasoning, have not motive what so ever to listen or analyze 'his' speech.

It was funny when Barack said "I have no more campaigns to run", and the audience clapped as if to say, You have done enough damage to the country and deserve no respect.

They should have stood up and turned their backs on the emperor, or not shown up at all! Better yet, he should have been impeached long ago, but then the line of succession would be no better.

The AJ panel and live comments last night were good. They pointed out his lies and deception, once again. Only a fool would keep believing this guy.

I think it's sad that police will turn their backs on the mayor of New York for saying that they are out of control (which they are) yet our elected reps cannot dare show any kind of disrespect to our authoritarian in cheif.

To me, it's obvious Obama is never going to go peacefully into the night when a new President is elected.  I see him desperately looking for a way to declare martial law before then.

I advocate exempting wages, sales, houses, capital goods (buildings, tools, machinery, etc.), and -- much to the annoyance of many of my fellow Georgists -- plant food (i.e. CO2) from taxation.

I also advocate repealing all federal gun control laws; abolishing (not "reforming" or "auditing") the CIA, NSA, FEMA, DEA, BATFE, DHS and the so-called Department of "Education"; and passing and implementing the American Sovereignty Restoration Act. So to anyone with at least a basic level of common-sense discernment, it should be obvious that, although I may not subscribe to the Austrian School of economics, I'm not a "socialist" either -- or anything close to it.

That said, I can't resist acknowledging that the following is probably the best analysis of Obama's State of the Union address I've seen thus far...

Delusion and Deception in Obama’s State of Union

By Patrick Martin
Global Research
January 21, 2015

Two weeks ago, the World Socialist Web Site published its initial review of the results of the year 2014 and the prospects for 2015. We wrote, “In examining the strategies and policies of the ruling elites of one or another country, it would be a mistake to either underestimate their ruthlessness or overestimate their intelligence.”

The State of the Union speech delivered by President Barack Obama Tuesday night confirms this assessment in the case of the United States. The US ruling elite exhibits a determination to stop at nothing in the defense of its wealth and privileges, and pig-headed blindness and stupidity, both on a colossal scale.

Perhaps the most striking aspect of Obama’s hour-long address, riddled with tired clichés and empty rhetoric, was the sheer unreality of the picture he presented of America, totally at odds with the actual experience of tens of millions of working people: mounting social and economic crisis, escalating attacks on democratic rights and the growing danger of world war.

“The shadow of crisis has passed,” Obama claimed, declaring that the US has successfully emerged from the economic slump that followed the 2008-2009 financial crash. “At this moment, with a growing economy, shrinking deficits, bustling industry, and booming energy production—we have risen from recession freer to write our own future than any other nation on Earth.”

No one not hypnotized by the ever-rising share prices on the New York Stock Exchange can accept that as a serious description of American social reality. A few figures released in the past month make this clear:

* Nine million workers are officially unemployed, another six million have dropped out of the labor force, eight million work part-time when they want full-time jobs and 12 million work for temporary employment agencies.

* Real wages have fallen steadily for American workers since 2007, dropping another five cents an hour in December 2014. The real income of the average working-class family is now back to the level of 2000—15 years of stagnation in living standards.

* The US poverty rate has risen from 12.6 percent in 2007 to 14.5 percent in 2013. Nearly half of all Americans and more than half of all US school children are poor or near poor.

* One fifth of American children do not get enough to eat, while the overall rate of food insecurity has jumped from 11 percent in 2007 to 16 percent in 2013. One million Americans will be cut off food stamp benefits this year.

Obama evaded any discussion of such figures, substituting instead the proposal for “middle-class economics,” a term deliberately chosen to conceal the ongoing attack on jobs and living standards of American workers. It is the latest brand-name his speechwriters have concocted for the policy of both capitalist parties, Democratic and Republican alike, of promoting the interests of American corporations and banks against their foreign rivals and the working class at home.

The State of the Union speech made a brief reference to the monstrous growth of economic inequality, where “only a few of us do spectacularly well,” but Obama passed over in silence the connection between the growth of the fortunes of the super-rich and his own policies. Skyrocketing wealth for the few and mounting social misery for the many are not merely coincidental. They are product of a deliberate policy, spearheaded by the Obama administration, of handing trillions of dollars to the banks while orchestrating a coordinated attack on jobs, living standards and social programs.

Equally unreal was Obama’s depiction of the state of American democracy. “As Americans, we respect human dignity, even when we’re threatened,” he said, “which is why I’ve prohibited torture, and worked to make sure our use of new technology like drones is properly constrained.”

The formal prohibition of torture, however, has been combined with a lengthy rearguard action against the Senate Intelligence Committee report on CIA torture, in the course of which Obama blocked any prosecution of the torturers. The White House is directly implicated in illegal activities, including the CIA’s spying on the US Senate and its efforts to withhold documents implicating the highest levels of the state in clear violations of national and international law.

As for “constraints” on the use of drones, there are none. The Obama administration has declared that the president has the unlimited right to order the assassination of any person on the planet, including American citizens, using drone-fired missiles, without any judicial review and without regard to US and international law.

Similarly, Obama claimed that “our intelligence agencies have worked hard … to increase transparency and build more safeguards against potential abuse.” In fact, the NSA, CIA, FBI and other intelligence agencies carry out unlimited surveillance on the population of America and the world, vacuuming up all electronic communications, telephone and Internet, and creating massive databases and political dossiers.

In the 13 years since the 9/11 attacks, the threat of terrorism has been used as the pretext for building up the structure of a police state in America. This process will only accelerate in the wake of the rise of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and the attacks in Paris January 7. Obama declared, “We will continue to hunt down terrorists and dismantle their networks, and we reserve the right to act unilaterally, as we’ve done relentlessly since I took office.”

This was only one of the many occasions in the State of the Union speech where the US president asserted his willingness to use force to insure the primacy of American imperialism over all its rivals. Half his speech was devoted to such threats, including against Russia, a nuclear-armed power, over Ukraine, and against Iran, where Obama, for the second time in five days, threatened to go to war to destroy the country’s nuclear technology program.

Perhaps the bluntest assertion of American supremacy came when Obama discussed negotiations over trade practices within the Asia-Pacific region (including China and Japan, the world’s second-largest and third-largest economies). “We should write those rules,” Obama declared, as though no other country mattered.

While Obama claimed that he had brought the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to a close, reducing the total troop deployment in the two countries from 180,000 to 15,000, this represents a shift in focus to a more extensive, not scaled-back, imperialist intervention. The US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) deployed forces to 133 countries in 2014, more than two thirds of the globe.

Obama concluded his speech with an appeal to the Republican Party, which now controls a majority of seats in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, for bipartisan collaboration over the next two years.

I advocate exempting wages, sales, houses, capital goods (buildings, tools, machinery, etc.), and -- much to the annoyance of many of my fellow Georgists -- plant food (i.e. CO2) from taxation.

I think income tax should be fixed in stone at 10%. I say this because quiet a few other countries have done that, and it works in practice. I do understand the Georgist position, but my 10% solution could be done over night, and would be a lot easier to sell to a mass movement. But, consider, afterwards, further reforms would be a lot easier to sell to the public after they discover that the world does not end if taxes get lowered - in fact lower taxes increases govt income.

Anyway, what I really wanted to discuss is that a CO2 tax is taxing the air that we breathe. My experience is when ever I point this out to a person, the blank look I get. If I try to press home the point, the victims get quiet irrational. It is very, very, frustrating. The other reaction, is that they acknowledge this, but simply accept this as a fact of life that can not be changed.

I dunno, what I am really saying is that people are so brainwashed and living in a bubble that I'm getting rather depressed about it all. Its not like there are not some really, really, easy solutions that could be implemented very, very, quickly that while not 'perfect' would instantly turn things around. Like, the whole unelected private banks creating the money supply when elected govts can issue the money debt free - a govt could start issuing debt free money tomorrow.

I find it all very frustrating because there are plenty of instant solutions that could implemented very quickly.

Yea, I have had the same problem. I have to instantly say "You mean Global Warming", to deliberately steer the conversation.

It bugs me that there are wealth of ideas, really good ideas, that are all better than the systems we have now. Yet the public is in that bubble of TV if they are not playing un-dead zombies on cell phones.

REVOLUTIONARY PARLIAMENTARIANISM;
The strategy used by collectivists to convince the majority they are hopelessly
outnumbered and that the loss of their freedom is of their own choosing.

Because the new rulers claim to be public servants, not conquers, they seldom are despised and usually are admired; sometimes even revered.
For that reason, Revolutionary Parliamentarianism is a far more effective path to totalitarian control in the modern age than conquest by the sword.

^^^^^

So sad.  Especially the 3,400 veterans who served their country THAT ARE HOMELESS IN LA.

I went to LA in Nov 2012---a lot of it is Third World.  Let us not forget that much of this is caused by illegals invading OUR Country.

Let us not forget Obama's $20 mil;lion dollar Christmas vacations paid for by the taxpayers.

The State of the Union in one sentence: 'Politically Corrupt; Morally Bankrupt, and Falling Fast.'

Common Sense ran away..."

By: Caroline May (Breitbart)

In advance of the State of the Union, the Republican National Committee is pointing out some of the most negative aspects of President Obama’s past six years.

Tuesday the RNC dispatched a compilation of statistics to the media, making up what it calling “Obama’s Union By The Numbers.”

For example, the RNC highlights that since Obama took office in 2009, 13 million Americans have been added to the food stamp rolls — more than twice the population of El Salvador.

The RNC further spotlights the $7.5 trillion increase in the national debt, the $95 billion cost of new regulations, the 5.5 million Americans who have fallen into poverty and the 215 rounds of golf Obama has played since becoming president.

“As Obama Prepares To Paint A Rosy Picture Of His Presidency, A Look At The Numbers He Won’t Mention,” the RNC explained its statistics sheet.

See the RNC’s full list.

Obama gets laughed at during the State of the Union. It was nice to see the wimps in Congress at least give him a little disrespect. Of course, many of them have also earned the disrespect of the public!    ::)
