...
Robert Kennedy knew what had happened. He was on his way to being elected president and to holding the plotters accountable for the murder of his brother when the CIA assassinated him. A distinguished journalist, who was standing behind Robert Kennedy at the time of his assassination, told me that the killing shots came from behind past his ear. He submitted his report to the FBI and was never contacted.
...
I never cease to be amazed by the gullibility of Americans, who know nothing about either event, but who confidently dismiss the factual evidence provided by experts and historians on the basis of their naive belief that “the government wouldn’t lie about such important events” or “someone would have talked.” What good would it do if someone talked when the gullible won’t believe hard evidence?

JFK Conspiracy? PROOF finally revealed! (with SOUND)

JFK II 1 h 30 mn - 1 apr. 2006 ***** JFK II is an incredible documentary film that totally destroys any notion of Lee Harvey Oswald being responsible for the murder of President John F.

http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/JFKgreerW.htm
...
On the 22nd November, 1963, Greer was assigned to drive the presidential car in the motorcade through Dallas. Several witnesses said that Greer stopped the car after the first shot was fired. This included  Jean Hill, who was the closest witness to the car when Kennedy was hot: According to Hill "the motorcade came to almost a halt at the time the shots rang out".

James Chaney (one of the four Presidential motorcyclists) - stated that the limousine "after the shooting, from the time the first shot rang out, the car stopped completely, pulled to the left and stopped." Mary Woodward, a journalist with the Dallas Morning News wrote: "Instead of speeding up the car, the car came to a halt... after the first shot".
...

Interesting Greer was the limo driver that slowed to a near stop... Not a natural american and from NORTHERN Ireland ie was not a catholic...  So they all just did as they were told and took the bubble top off the car and stopped it for the shooting  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/County_Tyrone

http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/JFKgreerW.htm

William Greer was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, in 1910. His family emigrated to the United States. Greer worked as a farm labourer before moving to Boston where he became a chauffeur. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor Greer joined the US Navy. He was assigned to the presidential yacht in May 1944.

At the end of the Second World War Greer joined the U.S. Secret Service. He joined the staff of the White House in November, 1950. Over the next thirteen years he worked as a chauffeur for Harry S. Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, and John F. Kennedy.
...
There is evidence that Greer also believed that John F. Kennedy had been a victim of a conspiracy. The daughter of Roy Kellerman, the Secret Agent in Kennedy's car, told Harold Weisberg in the 1970's that "I hope the day will come when these men (Kellerman and Greer) will be able to say what they've told their families".

William Greer died on 23rd February, 1985. His son, Richard Greer, was interviewed in 1991. When asked, "What did your father think of JFK," Richard did not respond the first time. When asked a second time, he responded: "Well, we're Methodists... and JFK was Catholic..."

http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/JFKkellerman.htm

Roy Kellerman was born in 1916. After graduating from High School in 1933 he found work with the Dodge Corporation. He left in 1937 to join the Michigan State Police. He served in the force for the next four years.

Kellerman joined the Secret Service in Detroit in December 1941. The following year he was transferred to the office in Washington. In March 1942, he was assigned to the White House. For the next three years Kellerman helped protect President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his family. Later he worked for Harry S. Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, and John F. Kennedy. In October 1962 Kellerman was promoted and given the title of assistant special agent in charge of security.

Kellerman later told the Warren Commission that Kenneth O'Donnell made the decision to remove the bubbletop on the President's car on the way to the Trade Mart.

http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/JFKodonnell.htm

Kenneth O'Donnell was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on 4th March, 1924. During the Second World War O'Donnell served in the US Airforce (1942-1945). After the war O'Donnell studied at Harvard University where he met Robert Kennedy. He also attended Boston College Law School.

In 1951 O'Donnell worked as a salesman for Hollingsworth and Whitney in Boston. A member of the Democratic Party, O'Donnell helped in the campaign to get John F. Kennedy elected to the Senate.

O'Donnell worked in public relations before being appointed as Assistant Counsel, Select Committee to Investigate Improper Activities in Labor-Management Relations in the Senate (1957-59).

In 1960 O'Donnell was the organizer and director of John F. Kennedy's presidential campaign schedule. The following year he became Kennedy's special assistant. O'Donnell was an early critic of the Vietnam War and advised Kennedy to bring an end to America's involvement in the conflict.

In November, 1963, he was involved in the organization of the presidential trip to Dallas, Texas. This involved discussions with Winston G. Lawson (secret service agent in charge of the trip), Roy Kellerman and Jesse Curry (chief of police in Dallas).

On the 22nd November, 1963, O'Donnell travelled in the Secret Service car immediately behind the presidential car.

http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/JFKlawsonW.htm
Curry always insisted that Winston G. Lawson was the person who made all the major decisions. This included the order that the proposed side escorts for the motorcade were to be redeployed to the rear of the cars.

Lawson drove the presidential motorcade's lead car. ... Lawson remained a member of the Secret Service until he retired.
Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole ; He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee. - Job 5

Robert F. Kennedy saw conspiracy in JFK’s assassination
By Bryan Bender and Neil Swidey |  GLOBE STAFF     NOVEMBER 24, 2013...

In the five years between his brother’s murder and his own assassination in 1968, Bobby Kennedy voiced public support for the findings of the Warren Commission, namely that a pathetic, attention-seeking gunman had alone been responsible for the murder of President Kennedy. Privately, though, Bobby was dismissive of the commission, seeing it, in the words of his former press secretary, as a public relations tool aimed at placating a rattled populace. When the chairman of the commission, Chief Justice Earl Warren, personally wrote to the attorney general, asking for any information to suggest that a “domestic or foreign conspiracy” was behind his brother’s assassination, Bobby scrawled a note to an aide, asking, “What do I do?” Then, after stalling for two months, he sent along a legalistic reply saying there was nothing in the Justice Department files to suggest a conspiracy. He made no mention of the hunches that appeared to be rattling around in his own mind.
...
Harris Wofford, who was JFK’s civil rights adviser in the White House and knew RFK intimately, was the first of the Kennedy inner circle to raise the prospect publicly that RFK felt some responsibility for his brother’s assassination.

“I think he carried a lot of potential guilt,” Wofford, a former senator from Pennsylvania, said in an interview.

For while John Kennedy was the one gunned down, Bobby had reason to believe he may have been the ultimate target.

Walking the grounds of Hickory Hill just an hour after receiving confirmation of his brother’s death, Bobby confided in an aide something truly unsettling. That aide, Edwin Guthman, would later recount it in his book “We Band of Brothers.” “I thought they would get one of us,” Bobby said, adding, “I thought it would be me.”
...
Bobby called Defense Secretary Robert McNamara to arrange transport for him to Dallas, figuring he would head there. He took a call from John McCone, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, and asked him, “Jack, can you come over?” He called family members, handing out assignments based on their individual strengths. His sister Jean, who was closest to the first lady, would fly to Washington to be with Jackie when she returned, while sister Eunice, who was closest to their mother, would fly to the family compound in Hyannis Port to be with Rose, according to William Manchester’s book “Death of a President.”

Meanwhile, he decided his younger brother Teddy would also fly to Hyannis Port, giving him the toughest task: breaking the news to their father. That, Joseph Kennedy’s personal nurse, Rita Dallas, said in an interview, would require some elaborate choreography. While awaiting Teddy’s arrival, the household staff had to pretend that the patriarch’s TV set was broken, a ruse to prevent him from learning the devastating news about his son from newsman Walter Cronkite.

Bobby called National Security Advisor McGeorge Bundy, and, according to Manchester, instructed him to have the locks changed on his brother’s files, knowing that a new president, a man he did not trust, would soon be in charge. As for that new president in waiting, Bobby took a call from Lyndon Johnson as he sat aboard Air Force One, phoning to get from the attorney general the precise wording for the oath of office he would soon take. The conversation between RFK and LBJ, like their relationship itself, was strained, with their mutual disrespect barely concealed.

Even in his grief, Bobby had to recognize this: He may have been the second most powerful man in government, but the assassin’s bullet that killed the president had also gravely weakened his brother. It would usher into the Oval Office the man he had aggressively tried to keep off the ticket in 1960, and then had belittled and ostracized for the three years that followed. There would be payback.

When McCone arrived from CIA headquarters, Bobby paced the lawn of his estate with him. As Bobby later told historian and aide Arthur Schlesinger, he asked McCone point blank if the CIA “had killed my brother, and I asked him in a way that he couldn’t lie to me, and they hadn’t.” McCone was a devout Catholic, leading many to believe that their shared faith was behind Bobby’s confidence in the CIA director’s candor. McCone, according to Schlesinger’s biography, “Robert Kennedy and His Times,” would come to believe that there had been two shooters in Dallas, though he didn’t think the American intelligence agency was in any way involved.

But McCone almost certainly didn’t know the whole truth. In the wake of the Bay of Pigs, the botched attempted invasion of Cuba orchestrated by the CIA, JFK had forced out the agency’s founding director, Allen Dulles, and replaced him with McCone, an outsider. At the same time, the president put his brother in charge of trying to ride herd on the powerful and unwieldy intelligence agency while also overseeing the administration’s interdepartmental Cuba team. The attorney general often began his days with meetings at CIA headquarters in Langley.

Bobby, said David Talbot, an investigative journalist and author of the book “Brothers,” thus became “JFK’s principal emissary to the dark side of American power.” That meant he knew, by this point, more about the underbelly of the CIA, especially in relation to Cuba, than did its own director. As a result, Talbot said in an interview, “Bobby Kennedy was America’s first assassination conspiracy theorist.”

Bobby Baker, who served prison time for tax evasion, says Ellen Rometsch pleased JFK so much that he thanked him for hooking them up. But she was deported when then-Attorney General Bobby Kennedy found out about her and wanted to avoid a scandal, Baker says

So claims Bobby Baker, the disgraced aide to future President Lyndon B. Johnson who spilled the salacious secrets in an interview with Politico Magazine.

...
Rometsch worked as a hostess at Washington’s Quorum Club, a secret salon in the Carroll Arms Hotel where officials hooked up with prostitutes.
...

But Rometsch was also bipartisan and had a dalliance with then-Congressman Jerry Ford, a Republican from Michigan, while he was on the Warren Commission investigating the Kennedy assassination.

FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover got hold of a tape “where Jerry Ford was having oral sex with Ellen Rometsch,” Baker told Politico

Hoover then used that to blackmail the married Ford into secretly informing him what leads the Warren Commission was pursuing, said Baker

..
When JFK’s brother, then-Attorney General Bobby Kennedy, found out about Rometsch, she was deported to East Germany to avoid any scandal, Baker said.

LBJ moves into the Whitehouse...

On December 7, 1963, the Johnson's began moving into the White House. Mrs. Johnson recorded in her diary, "...the call came today to move, and Luci took the two beagles, 'Him' and 'Her,' in her birthday convertible, and I got in another car,.... I had our favorite picture of the Speaker, Mr. Sam Rayburn, in my hand.... When we arrived, Mr. West [Chief White House Usher] was waiting at the door for us and greeted Luci and me and took us to the second floor."

Dec 8 1963 - Frank Sinatra Jr. is Kidnapped !  - A Shutup call is made to Sinatra Sr.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Sinatra,_Jr.

...
Kidnapping

Sinatra was kidnapped, at the age of 19, on December 8, 1963 at Harrah's Lake Tahoe (room 417).[4]

Sinatra was released two days later after his father paid the $240,000 (about $1,832,000 in 2013 dollars)[5][6] ransom demanded by the kidnappers. Barry Keenan, Johnny Irwin, and Joe Amsler were soon captured, prosecuted, convicted, and sentenced to long prison terms for kidnapping, of which they served only small portions (mastermind Keenan was later adjudged to have been legally insane at the time of the crime and hence not legally responsible for his actions).[4] Famed attorney Gladys Root represented one of the three men.

A rumor at the time was that Frank Sr. arranged this in an attempt to gain publicity for his son's fledgling singing career—a rumor believed to have inspired the plot for the Hawaii Five-O episode "Tiger by the Tail"[7]—but was proven to be false.[citation needed] The kidnappers demanded communication via payphone. During one conversation, Frank Sr. ran out of money and was disconnected. Fearing never seeing his son again, Frank Sr. decided to carry a roll of dimes with him at all times (payphones at this time cost 10 cents). This tradition lasted the rest of his life.

At the time of the kidnapping, Frank Sr. and the Rat Pack were filming Robin and the 7 Hoods. The stress of the kidnapping, in addition to the assassination of Sinatra's close friend John F. Kennedy just a few days previous, caused him to seriously consider shutting down production completely,[citation needed] though the film was ultimately completed.

This American Life interviewed kidnapper Barry Keenan on Episode 205 "Plan B

The Frank Sinatra, Jr. Kidnapping
BY David Krajicek

...
It was 9 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, 1963, when Keenan raised his knuckles and knocked. The door was unlocked, and young Sinatra invited the visitor in.

"Hi, guys," said Keenan. "I've got a package for you."

Sinatra gestured toward the dresser and said, "Put it over there."

Unburdened of the box, Keenan whipped out the revolver tucked in trousers and called out to Amsler, who stepped into the room brandishing his own pistol.

"Don't make any noise, and nobody gets hurt," Keenan snarled, trying to sound tough.

They bound Foss with masking tape and allowed Sinatra to don shoes, trousers and a coat — but no socks or proper shirt.

Soon Sinatra found himself sitting blindfolded in the Impala, which Keenan guided through a blizzard down the Sierra Nevadas toward a hideout house he had rented in Canoga Park, a Los Angeles suburb eight hours from Lake Tahoe.

24 - White House Announcement of the Presentation of a Painting to the White House by the Family of President Kennedy.
December 4, 1963

THE FAMILY of President John F. Kennedy has presented today in his memory a picture to be added to the permanent collection in the White House, the White House announced today.

It is by the French artist Claude Monet (1840-1926). The painting is oil on canvas, 36Ѕ x 35 inches, and is entitled "Matinee sur la Seine," subtitled: "Beautemps" ("A Morning on the Seine; Good Weather"). Painted in 1897, it is a superb example of Monet's work at a time when he was developing a personal style that separates him from the other painters of the impressionist school and gives him a unique place in the history of French art. Paintings by Monet hang in such great museums of the world as the Louvre, the National Gallery of Art, the Metropolitan, the Hermitage, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Art Institute of Chicago.

The painting was selected by the members of the Kennedy family from a group of pictures gathered together at the White House this week. It was felt that this picture would be especially appropriate because it reflects the President's deep love of the outdoors and particularly of water, and represents the very personal taste in painting of both President and Mrs. Kennedy. They shared a love of French nineteenth century painting and had several fine examples of it in their own personal collection.

While the establishment of a distinguished permanent collection of American paintings for the White House was the goal of President and Mrs. Kennedy and has been entirely assembled in the brief years he was in office, the Kennedy family wished to leave something personal to the White House in the tradition of Charles Loeser who gave a unique collection of eight Cezannes and Mrs. Margaret Thompson Biddle who left a priceless collection of vermeil.

The painting has been hung in the Green Room.
Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole ; He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee. - Job 5

Lamar Waldron won't let go of the Kennedy assassination
By Liz Smith, Tribune Content AgencyLiz Smith
4:30 a.m. CST, November 22, 2013

...

In 1985, Waldron claimed the FBI had actually convinced Marcello to confess. He provides even more background in his new book. Marcello's prison cellmate, Jack Van Laningham, according to the author, got the latter to talk. (Later, Jack passed the FBI's polygraph test so the FBI believed he wasn't lying.)

Marcello told Van Laningham that the shooters for JFK's hit were imported from Europe. They practiced shooting on Marcello's New Orleans estate. He already controlled Jack Ruby and his nightclub in Dallas. He also controlled godfather Santo Trafficante and Mafia don Johnny Rosselli, friend to Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. (Rosselli's body was later found in a drum, his legs chopped off.)

Godfather Marcello attempted to have his gang kill JFK three weeks before Dallas when the president was in Chicago. The Kennedys kept this evidence out of the press for the sake of security.

The FBI continues to withhold all the Marcello tapes, although they should have been released a decade ago. Experts say there are tens of thousands of pages that have not yet been released.

...
The planned film on Marcello and the undercover operation "Legacy of Secrecy" is still in the works. Leonardo DiCaprio will produce and play FBI informant Van Laningham with Robert De Niro playing Marcello.

Thousands of JFK killing files stll kept secret

Boston Globe - There were the Pentagon’s top-secret reviews of Lee Harvey Oswald, the former US Marine — before and after the assassination. The files about the CIA operative who monitored the alleged assassin and whose knowledge of him was purposely hidden from congressional investigators. The sworn testimony of dozens of intelligence officials and organized crime figures dating back nearly four decades. And the government personnel files of multiple figures officially designated as relevant to the investigation.

The documents, which could amount to tens of thousands of pages, are just some of the collections that government archivists acknowledge have still not been released a half-century after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
...
As the nation marks the anniversary of JFK’s murder, there is a new push, including lawsuits filed under the Freedom of Information Act, to shake loose these and other classified materials that may shed light on one of the most unsettled debates of modern history: Was the murder of the nation’s 35th president the work of a lone assassin or a conspiracy, and did elements of the US government know about it, or cover it up, or knowingly destroy evidence to prevent other dirty laundry from being aired?

“A lot of questions remain,” said John R. Tunheim, a federal judge in Minnesota who chaired the Assassination Records Review Board, which oversaw the review and disclosure of some five million records related to the JFK assassination in the 1990s. “We only put a few pieces of the puzzle together. Lots of the jigsaw is missing.”

Among Mr. Martin's other important movies were "Some Came Running," "Rio Bravo," "The Sons of Katie Elder" and "The Silencers." "The Silencers" was the first of four spy films in which he played Matt Helm, a James Bond-like smoothie. Despite good reviews for "The Young Lions," he did not pursue a serious film career. Still, in movies like "Sergeants Three," "Four for Texas," and "Robin and the Seven Hoods," which he made with Mr. Sinatra and the clique known as the Rat Pack, Mr. Martin projected an unflappable nonchalance tinged with an amused self-parody.

The Rat Pack's other members included Mr. Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Shirley MacLaine and Peter Lawford, with President John F. Kennedy as an honorary member. The group is said to have solidified the bond between politics and the world of entertainment.

Within the Rat Pack Mr. Martin was dubbed "the clown prince." One of the popular myths about him -- that he was a heavy drinker who lived in a perpetual alcoholic haze -- was an idea borrowed from Phil Harris and successfully promoted by the star, whose supremely relaxed manner, ad-libbing and slightly blurred diction bolstered the image of hard-drinking sybarite. Although the image was largely an invention, Nick Tosches' 1992 biography of the singer, "Dino: Living High in the Dirty Business of Dreams," portrayed him as a heavy drinker late in his life.

DEAN MARTIN'S DEATHBED CONFESSION "Frank Sinatra shot JFK"

WASHINGTON - Earlier today, the estate of the late Dean Martin sensationally released a signed document which they claim is the dictated deathbed confession of the former lounge singer and actor.

The document, which is still awaiting official verification, contains several allegations including Jerry Lewis' secret donations to The Baadar-Meinhoff Gang and Sammy Davies Jnr's links to the Israeli Intelligence service Mossad. The most explosive passage of the confession, however, is Martin's suggestion that Frank Sinatra was the infamous 'Man on the Grassy Knoll', who conspiracy theorists have long alleged was responsible for the assassination of former US president John F Kennedy.

I was at my suite in The Tropicana in December 1963 and Sinatra came over with a bottle of Scotch. We polished that off pretty swiftly and, halfway through the next, Frank suddenly asked me what I thought about the assassination. I told him I was sorry for his family but after what that son of a bitch did to Marilyn - I had no personal love for the man. Suddenly, Frank started laughing like a maniac and when I asked him what he was laughing about, he said he had a confession to make; but if I ever told anyone about it I'd end up in a hole in the desert. I thought he was just drunk and boasting so I said, “Sure Frank, spill your guts and I won't tell another living soul."

Well what he said next has been eating away at my conscience for over 30 years. He told me that the wrong man had been accused of killing the president and ole Harvey Oswald had been set up to take the fall. Still thinking he was just kidding around I said “Sure Frank, how come you know so much about it?”. Suddenly Sinatra approached me, put both hands firmly on my shoulders and looked me straight in the eye. “I know about it Deano because I was the man who shot JFK”.

Now Frank was known for talking all kinds of bull and, at first, I thought he was just taking a joke too far - but then he told me how he had been at a card game on November 19th with Mickey Rooney, Tony Curtis, Peter Lawford and Mob boss Sam Giancana. He said everyone was pretty drunk and Sam got talking about how he rigged the New York vote to get Kennedy elected but the President was still busting his balls left, right, and centre. Then the conversation turned to what that son of a bitch did to Marilyn; Giancana got angry and exclaimed, “Will no-one rid me of this turbulent President?” With that,  Frank said he excused himself from the table to take a leak and decided he was going to charter a plane to Dallas and assassinate Kennedy.

“It was easy Deano”, he told me, “I borrowed a rifle from Lauren Bacall and jumped on a plane to Dallas. Next thing I know it's lunch time and I'm stood behind this grassy knoll holding half a bottle of tequila and a 6.5 mm Carcano. I saw the Presidents Limo go past, fired off a couple of shots and then wandered off to find a 7-Eleven.”

I asked Frank how Oswald got caught up in the mess and he said he had “No idea,” but it was - “Probably something to do with the Cubans”.

You know I've kept that secret for so long but now I'm on my way out, I thought it was high time the truth came out.

Tina Sinatra: Mob Ties Aided JFK
Daughter Says Joe Kennedy Asked Singer To Enlist Sam Giancana
OCT 6, 2000

Legendary crooner Frank Sinatra served as a liaison between John F. Kennedy's 1960 campaign for president and mobster Sam Giancana in a scheme to use Mafia muscle to deliver union votes, Sinatra's daughter tells 60 Minutes.

The late singer's youngest daughter, Tina, also describes her father's final years and his work for the Central Intelligence Agency. The interview will be rebroadcast on Dec. 31.

Tina Sinatra, 52, says her father told her that Kennedy patriarch Joseph P. Kennedy wanted the Mafia's help in delivering the union vote in the 1960 West Virginia primary, in which John Kennedy, then a U.S. senator, faced Sen. Hubert Humphrey of Minnesota. The elder Kennedy asked Frank Sinatra to make a request to then-Chicago crime boss Sam Giancana.

Sinatra was approached "because (Kennedy) knew dad had access to Sam Giancana," Tina said.

"It would be in Jack Kennedy's best interest if his father did not make the contact directly…Dad was on an errand," she tells Correspondent Steve Kroft.

Giancana told Frank Sinatra he would do it, telling the singer, according to his daughter, "It's a couple of phone calls."

Soon after Kennedy won the tight race for president, the deal brokered by Sinatra came back to haunt him when the Kennedy administration cracked down on the Mafia—an effort led by Robert Kennedy, the president's brother and attorney general.

Tina says her father told her how he assuaged an angry Giancana.

"Sam was saying, 'That's not right. You know he owes me,' he meaning Joe Kennedy, and dad, I think, said, 'No, I owe you. I asked for the favor,'" recalls Tina.

To repay the favor, Tina says, Frank Sinatra "…went to Chicago and played in (Giancana's) club, the Villa Venice." Sinatra brought "Rat Packers" Sammy Davis, Jr. and Dean Martin with him and played two shows for eight straight nights.

Tina says her father also claimed to have served as a courier for the CIA.

"Because (he) controlled his own air travel…(the CIA) would ask him and many others with that capacity to courier a body—a living person, you know, not a corpse, but a diplomat—or…papers."

Sinatra never revealed who or what he was transporting.

"We asked him," says Tina. "He didn't (tell us)."

Sinatra's friendship with President Kennedy was well known, and allegations of his connections to the Mafia are not new.

Central to those rumors is Judith Exner, the Giancana and Sinatra girlfriend who has claimed she engaged in a long love affair with President Kennedy, which could have compromised the government's attack on the mob.

After the actor and entertainer died at age 82 in May, 1998 the FBI released nearly 1,300 pages of information it accumulated over 40 years of investigating the man known as "Old Blue Eyes" and "The Chairman of the Board."

Frank Sinatra Jr., abducted from a motel on the California-Nevada border Sunday night, was released by his captors at 3:10 a.m. today in the exclusive Bel-Air district. The 19-year-old singer's famous father told newsmen he paid $240,000 to get the boy back, "no questions asked." The FBI conducted an intensive search for the abductors but would say nothing on progress.

Billie Sol Estes, Texas Con Man Whose Fall Shook Up Washington, Dies at 88
By ROBERT D. McFADDEN
Published: May 14, 2013

Billie Sol Estes, a fast-talking Texas swindler who made millions, went to prison and captivated America for years with mind-boggling agricultural scams, payoffs to politicians and bizarre tales of covered-up killings and White House conspiracies, was found dead on Tuesday at his home in Granbury, Tex. He was 88.

He died in his sleep and was found in his recliner, Mr. Estes’s daughter Pamela Padget said.

Nonexistent fertilizer tanks. Faked mortgages. Bogus cotton-acreage allotments. Farmers in four states bamboozled. Strange “suicides,” including a bludgeoned investigator shot five times with a bolt-action rifle. Assassination plots. Jimmy Hoffa and Fidel Castro. Jack Ruby and Lee Harvey Oswald.

The rise and fall of Billie Sol Estes was one of the sensations of the postwar era: the saga of a good-ol’-boy con man who created a $150 million empire of real and illusory farming enterprises that capitalized on his contacts in Washington and the gullibility and greed of farmers, banks and agriculture businesses.

He was a Bible-thumping preacher who gave barbecues for governors and senators, rode his bike to work in Pecos, Tex., and his airplane to Washington, and was named one of America’s 10 outstanding young men of 1953 by the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce. Later, autographed photos of John F. Kennedy, Harry S. Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson and others lined his walls.

As his empire crumbled in 1962, the notoriety of Billie Sol, as nearly everyone in America called him, might have been passing had it not been for the bodies that kept cropping up, for the bribery scandals and fraud in federal farm programs, and for Mr. Estes’s own lurid accounts of how it all happened and who was involved.

Many of his statements were self-serving and never proved — particularly allegations about Johnson. Mr. Estes said that he had given millions to Johnson, and that Johnson, while he was vice president, had ordered seven killings disguised as suicides or accidents to cover up his connections to the frauds and had then set up the assassination of Kennedy in 1963 to become president.
...
“This government is staying right on Mr. Estes’s tail,” a harried President Kennedy said at an overflowing news conference as he, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and Agriculture Secretary Orville L. Freeman were thrown on the defensive by almost daily revelations in the serpentine scandal.
...
Richard M. Nixon, then running for governor in California, called it “the biggest national scandal since Teapot Dome.” Political cartoonists had a field day, caricaturing Mr. Estes and Washington as mired in the same farm muck.
...

The cover was blown in early 1962, when The Pecos Independent and Enterprise published an exposé by its city editor, Oscar Griffin Jr., on thousands of mortgages for nonexistent fertilizer tanks. The articles, which did not name Mr. Estes, won a Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting and led to an avalanche of investigations.

Mr. Estes was arrested in frauds that reached from farms in Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia and Alabama to the halls of power in Washington. Three agriculture officials were fired for taking bribes. An assistant secretary of labor who took $1,000 resigned. Senator Ralph Yarborough, a Texas Democrat, and Representative H. Carl Anderson, a Minnesota Republican, acknowledged accepting political contributions. Congressional investigators found disarray at the Department of Agriculture but no systemic corruption.

Soon after the Estes indictments, however, Mr. Freeman, the agriculture secretary, disclosed that a key investigator on the case, Henry Marshall, had been found dead in Texas — bludgeoned on the head, with nearly fatal amounts of carbon monoxide in his bloodstream and five chest wounds from a single-shot bolt-action rifle. Local officials ruled it suicide, but the body was exhumed and the cause changed to homicide.

Six other men tied to the case also died. Three perished in accidents, including a plane crash. Two were found in cars filled with carbon monoxide and were declared suicides.

Mr. Estes’s accountant was also found dead in a car, with a rubber tube connecting its exhaust to the interior, suggesting suicide, but no poisonous gases were found in the body, and his death was attributed to a heart attack.

In 1963, Mr. Estes was convicted on federal charges and sentenced to 15 years. A state conviction was overturned on grounds of prejudicial news coverage. After exhausting appeals and serving six years, he was paroled in 1971. In 1979, he was convicted of tax fraud and served four more years. He was released in 1983.

A year later, in what he called a voluntary statement to clear the record, Mr. Estes told a Texas grand jury that Johnson, as vice president in 1961, had ordered that Mr. Marshall be killed to prevent him from disclosing Johnson’s ties to the Estes conspiracies. He said a Johnson aide, Malcolm Wallace, had shot him.

The Justice Department asked Mr. Estes for more information, and the response was explosive. For a pardon and immunity from prosecution, he promised to detail eight killings arranged by Johnson, including the Kennedy assassination. He said that Mr. Wallace had not only persuaded Jack Ruby to recruit Lee Harvey Oswald, but that Mr. Wallace had also fired a shot in Dallas that hit the president.

Mr. Estes also claimed knowledge of a White House plan to kill Fidel Castro and a plot by the former Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa to kill Robert Kennedy. Mr. Estes reiterated his allegations in a book, “JFK, the Last Standing Man” (2003), written with William Reymond, and a memoir, “Billie Sol Estes: A Texas Legend” (2004).

As with similar allegations in books, articles and documentaries over the years, none of the Estes claims could be proved. Johnson had died in 1973, and everyone else, except Mr. Estes, was also dead.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is convinced that a lone gunman wasn't solely responsible for the assassination of his uncle, President John F. Kennedy, and said his father believed the Warren Commission report was a 'shoddy piece of craftsmanship.'

Kennedy and his sister, Rory, spoke about their family Friday night while being interviewed in front of an audience by Charlie Rose [Bilderberg] at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas. The event comes as a year of observances begins for the 50th anniversary of the president's death.

Their uncle was killed on Nov. 22, 1963, while riding in a motorcade through Dallas. Five years later, their father was assassinated in a Los Angeles hotel while celebrating his win in the California Democratic presidential primary.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said his father spent a year trying to come to grips with his brother's death, reading the work of Greek philosophers, Catholic scholars, Henry David Thoreau, poets and others 'trying to figure out kind of the existential implications of why a just God would allow injustice to happen of the magnitude he was seeing.'

He said his father [RFK] thought the Warren Commission, which concluded Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in killing the president, was a 'shoddy piece of craftsmanship.'
...

He publicly supported the Warren Commission report but privately he was dismissive of it.'

He said his father had investigators do research into the assassination and found that phone records of Oswald and nightclub owner Jack Ruby, who killed Oswald two days after the president's assassination, 'were like an inventory' of mafia leaders the government had been investigating.

He said his father, later elected U.S. senator in New York, was 'fairly convinced' that others were involved.

Patsy Cline's strange death, on this day in country music history
By Nikki Miller Thu., Mar. 3 2011 at 9:59 AM

On this day in history 1963, Patsy Cline performed her last show ever before dying at the age of 30. But it was the events that happened in the ensuing weeks (and years) that were truly notable... and, well, weird.

On March 3, 1963, Patsy Cline traveled to Kansas City to perform three shows as part of a benefit for the family of disc jockey Cactus Jack Call, who'd recently died in a car accident. Sharing the stage with her that day were such notable performers as George Jones, Billy Walker, Dottie West, Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkins.

Friends West, June Carter Cash and Loretta Lynn have all since recalled Cline telling them in the months preceding this performance that she felt a sense of impending doom, and didn't expect she would live much longer. She even began distributing her personal items to friends, and making plans for her will and the care of her children.

Cline was no stranger to grievous injury. Before her death, she'd been in two major car accidents. Not long after the birth of her son, she and her brother were involved in a head-on collision in Nashville, the second of three serious accidents she was to endure in her lifetime. Cline was thrown into the windshield and badly injured. Her close friend, country singer Dottie West, was one of the first to arrive to the scene and rode with Cline in the ambulance, picking glass from her hair as she insisted the car's other driver be treated before her. Cline suffered a serious cut across her forehead (which she later covered with wigs and makeup), as well as a broken wrist, dislocated hip and injured ribs that affected her ability to hit the notes on initial recordings of what would become one of her biggest hits, "Crazy."

...
Cline had reportedly confessed to a Jordanaire backup singer while exiting the Grand Ole Opry just a week earlier, "Honey, I've had two bad ones. The third one will either be a charm or it'll kill me." Indeed, the third one did come, and proved that it was indeed her time to go.

Cline's plane, piloted by her manager Randy Hughes, crashed just outside Nashville the night of March 5, claiming the lives of Cline, Hughes, and co-performers Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkins.

Hawkins had taken the seat originally intended for singer Billy Walker, who had to leave on an earlier flight but died in a car accident years later, in 2006 while driving back to Nashville after performing in Alabama. Hawkins' wife, famous country singer Jean Shepard, was at the time 8 months pregnant with their second son. Manager Randy Hughes left behind a wife, Kathy Hughes, who also lost her father in the crash - Copas.

Thousands attended Cline's memorial service on March 8, but one person didn't make it. Jack Anglin, best known as a member of the Anglin Brothers and later, Johnnie & Jack, died when he took a bend a little too quickly and crashed his car on the way to the service.

362. Telegram From the Secretary of Defense (McNamara) to the Ambassador in Vietnam (Lodge)1
Washington, December 12, 1963.

DIASO-34783-63. The President has asked me to stop in Saigon on my return from the NATO meeting in order to assure that we receive promptly the plans and recommendations of the Country Team for:

1. Covert operations by South Vietnamese forces, utilizing such support of US forces as is necessary, against North Vietnam. Plans for such operations should include varying levels of pressure all designed to make clear to the North Vietnamese that the US will not accept a Communist victory in South Vietnam and that we will escalate the conflict to whatever level is required to insure their defeat.

2. Cross-border operations into a strip of Laos approximately fifty kilometers wide. The operations to be carried out by specially trained South Vietnamese forces utilizing such US advisory personnel as are necessary.  These operations would be designed both to obtain evidence of infiltration of military cadres and military equipment from North Vietnam into South Vietnam and also to disrupt such infiltration.

3. Such aerial reconnaissance as is required to check on the extent of infiltration of arms from North Vietnam to South Vietnam through Laos and Cambodia.

4. Border patrol activities designed to determine and check the extent of the infiltration of cadres and military equipment from North Vietnam through Laos and Cambodia to South Vietnam.

5. Accelerating and intensifying the military campaign against the Viet Cong in thirteen critical provinces. You will recall we agreed in Honolulu that the Country Team would prepare a detailed analysis of the political, economic and military problem in each of these provinces and a detailed plan providing for the solution of those problems. The plans should be specific as to geography, time and resources to be employed.

As a foundation for the review of these plans, I should like to receive the Country Team's appraisal of the effectiveness of the new government's political, economic and military programs.

I expect to arrive in Saigon mid-morning, Thursday, December 19, and hope to meet with you and your staff during that day and the next to review in detail the plans and recommendations which I have been instructed to take back with me to Washington. William Colby and General Krulak will arrive a day ahead of me for the purpose of completing a preliminary review before I arrive.

And Your Bird Can Sing: The Valachi Hearings – The Profumo Scandal – September 25, 1963

http://pastdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/news-for-september-25-1963.mp3

Busy month for scandals, revelations and upheavals. September in 1963 was no different, it seems. On this day in September, the McClellan Crime Committee Hearings on Capitol Hill were going full speed ahead, with star witness, organized crime figure Joseph Valachi poised to give bomb-dropping evidence on the activities of one of the hithermost secret societies in America; the Cosa Nostra, or Mafia as we have come to know them.

Valachi was scheduled to testify in public later in the week, but that didn’t prevent bombs from dropping anyway. Testimony was forthcoming by a number of other witnesses who revealed inner-workings of the Mafia previously unknown. It all made for great TV and riveting Radio.

And on the other side of the Atlantic, another scandal was rocking the British government. The name Christine Keeler was topic-A in conversation around London this month. Keeler was a prostitute (aka: Call Girl – Good-time Girl – Working Girl) linked to affairs with John Profumo, Secretary of State for War and Soviet agent Yevgeny Ivanov, a senior Naval attachè at the Soviet Embassy in London.

Keeler was accused of passing secrets to Ivanov via pillow-talk with Profumo and the scandal erupted into a political crisis for the MacMillan government which eventually ended the career of John Profumo and briefly tossed Downing Street into a state of chaos.

Less hysterical, but no less controversial was news that President Kennedy had asked for approval of grain shipments to the Soviet Union, as well as Congress passing a Kennedy sanctioned Tax cut package.

And all that, plus much-much more happened on this September 23, 1963, as reported by NBC Radio News On The Hour and a Special Report on The Valachi Hearings.

Fifty years ago today . . . .

CIA Bay of Pigs Secrecy Case Reaches Appeals Court

National Security Archive Lawsuit Seeks Last Volume of CIA "Official History"

CIA claims release would "confuse the public"

National Security Archive Electronic Briefing Book No. 450
Posted December 13, 2013

Edited by Tom Blanton

Washington, DC, December 13, 2013 – A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit heard the National Security Archive's arguments yesterday for public release of the last secret volume of the CIA's internal history of the 1961 Bay of Pigs disaster.

Represented pro bono by Allon Kedem of the Skadden Arps law firm, the Archive rebutted the CIA's claims that the 30-year-old draft history of 50-year-old events deserved any protection under the "deliberative process" exemption to the Freedom of Information Act.

Attorney Kedem pointed out that the draft was connected to no policy decision by CIA, and that CIA has already admitted in court why the draft was rejected by supervisors and never published -- apparently it is a polemic against the CIA Inspector General whose devastating report on CIA responsibility for the Bay of Pigs was obtained through the FOIA and published by the National Security Archive in 1998. The author of the draft history, Dr. Jack Pfeiffer, since-deceased, lost a lawsuit in 1987 seeking release of his drafts so he could publish them himself.

When the government's lawyers argued that release of the draft would "confuse the public" about whether the document was CIA official history, Judge Judith Rogers said she did not "find that totally persuasive," since there is no confusion that the CIA disagrees with the draft's conclusions.

Rogers told the government, "You're seeking ad infinitum protection of drafts" when the FOIA is actually a disclosure statute and exemptions have to be narrowly drawn. The other judges on the panel, Brett Kavanaugh and Stephen Williams, pitched in with tough questions for both parties. Kavanaugh remarked that the records of the 1787 Constitutional Convention were sealed for only 30 years, implying that the CIA draft history could easily be released as well.

The case also includes an amicus brief by the National Coalition for History (represented by the Jones Day law firm) noting the pernicious effects on access to historical documents that a ruling for the CIA would impose on government files. According to Tom Blanton, executive director of the National Security Archive, "If the (CIA) wins, it would throw a burqa over future release of any draft document an agency produces."

News coverage of the case includes yesterday's McClatchy News story:

Lawsuit seeks to unlock CIA’s secret history of Bay of Pigs invasion
December 12 2013
By Michael Doyle

McClatchy Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration on Thursday fought to keep secret a CIA account of the 1961 Bay of Pigs debacle.

Half a century after the failed invasion of Cuba, and three decades after a CIA historian completed his draft study, an administration lawyer told a top appellate court that the time still isn’t right to make the document public.

“The passage of time has not made it releasable,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Mitchell P. Zeff told the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

...
Through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, the private National Security Archive is seeking the final volume of a five-volume CIA history of the Bay of Pigs. The opus was prepared by a CIA staff historian between 1973 and 1984. Four volumes have been released, under FOIA pressure, but the fifth volume, which examines the CIA’s own internal investigation of the invasion, remains secret.

“Here we are, 30 years later,” Judge Judith W. Rogers noted Thursday. “The author is deceased. The events occurred long ago.”
...

“If the (CIA) wins, it would throw a burqa over any draft document an agency produces,” Thomas Blanton, executive director of the National Security Archive, said after the 45-minute oral argument.

...

In 2011, researcher Peter Kornbluh obtained the first four volumes of what was called “The Official History of the Bay of Pigs Operation.” Originally classified top secret, and prepared by CIA historian Jack Pfeiffer, the 1,200 pages revealed new details about the ill-fated April 1961 invasion launched by CIA-trained fighters. Planning for the invasion began during the Eisenhower administration in response to the rise of Cuban President Fidel Castro. President John F. Kennedy inherited the scheme when he took office in January 1961.

The already released volumes, for instance, recount the CIA maneuverings to covertly gain use of an inactive Marine Corps air station in Opa-locka, Fla. Anti-Castro Cuban exiles recruited in the Miami area formed the backbone of the roughly 1,500-man invasion force, which was defeated within about four days.

A 400-plus page report by the CIA’s inspector general critiqued the invasion. Pfeiffer, the CIA historian, in turn critiqued the inspector general’s report in the still-secret fifth volume of his history. Pfeiffer’s supervisor, though, called the volume a “polemic” troubled by “serious deficiencies,” and said that it would not be published.

“Dr. Pfeiffer’s account (was) an uncritical defense of the CIA officers who planned and executed the Bay of Pigs operation,” the supervisor, J. Kenneth McDonald, later stated.

The CIA inspector general’s report – the subject of Pfeiffer’s critique – has itself already been made public under a FOIA request.

Bay of Pigs Release
(Updated August 2, 2011)

The cornerstone of this collection is a two-volume, 400-plus page document consisting of (Volume I) the CIA Inspector General's (IG) Report on the CIA's ill-fated April 1961 attempt to implement national policy by overthrowing the Fidel Castro regime in Cuba by means of a covert paramilitary operation, otherwise known as the Bay of Pigs, and (Volume II), a commentary on the IG report written by the Directorate of Plans (DP), now known as the Directorate of Operations (DO). These two volumes are a rare side-by-side compilation of high-level government self-evaluation of its own performance in an historic and controversial event. The remainder of the collection is comprised of various documents, to include finished intelligence, National Security Council (NSC) briefings and Spanish-language documents. The collection now stands at 769 documents, although more may be added in the future as additional documents are subjected to the ongoing review process.

The CIA history of the Bay of Pigs operation in 1961, originally classified top secret, based on dozens of interviews with key operatives and officials and hundreds of CIA documents. The four volumes include information never before released and comprise (I) Air Operations, March 1960-1961; (II) Participation in the Conduct of Foreign Policy; (III) Evolution of CIA's Anti-Castro Policies, 1959-January 1961; and (IV) The Taylor Committee Investigation of the Bay of Pigs.

Jackie Bouvier Kennedy was also connected to BIG OIL - Jennings was a Standard Oil Founder - as was the custom, the Jennings daughter married into the British Peerage:

"One can fairly hear the woof and tweet of history whistle through the names of the ramified Auchincloss tribe: Bunt, Grosvenor, Rockefeller, Saltonstall, Tiffany, Vanderbilt and Winthrop among others."5

For instance, Hugh D. Auchincloss, Sr. married Emma Brewster Jennings, daughter of Oliver B. Jennings, who co-founded Standard Oil with John D. Rockefeller.

Bouvier's womanizing and drinking led to a separation in 1936, a brief reconciliation for a few months in 1937, and then a divorce in 1940.[4]

Lee's second husband was Hugh Dudley Auchincloss, Jr., an attorney and Standard Oil heir; she was his third wife. They were married on June 21, 1942,[5] and had two children: Janet Jennings Auchincloss (1945—1985) and James Lee Auchincloss, born in 1947

The Pinchot family originally worked with Teddy Roosevelt to form the Forest Service to create King's err..  "federal" lands and restrict the use of the remaining portions of the U.S. . The Pinchot family owned most the Timber and Coal land around ( Peabody Coal today) and wanted to protect their monopoly of timber and suppling paper for nearly all the newspapers. One of the reasons for the railroads was to secure rights and gain access to all the adjacent timber and mineral(s) rights (coal/iron later oil) on the railroads right of ways...

President John F. Kennedy came to GreyTowers in Milford to dedicate The Pinchot Institute Conservation Studies

JFK with Mary Meyer nee Pinchot (far right). Antoinette Bradlee is second on the left.

In 1944 Mary met Cord Meyer (S&B), a lieutenant in the US Marines who was recovering from serious shrapnel injuries that had resulted in him losing an eye. The couple married on 19th April, 1945. Soon afterwards the couple went to San Francisco to attend the conference that established the United Nations.

Cord went as an aide to Harold Stassen [ Stassen was later best known for being a perennial candidate for the Republican Party nomination for President of the United States, seeking it 12 times between 1944 and 2000 (1944, 1948, 1952, 1964, 1968, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, and 2000), but never winning it or, after 1952, even coming close ] , whereas Mary, who was working for the North American Newspaper Alliance at the time, was one of the reporters sent to cover this important event.

Allen W. Dulles made contact with Cord Meyer in 1951. He accepted the invitation to join the CIA.

Cord Meyer became part of what became known as Operation Mockingbird, a CIA program to influence the mass media. According to Deborah Davis (Katharine the Great: Katharine Graham and the Washington Post): Meyer was Mockingbird's "principal operative".

Mary and the family now moved to Washington where they became members of the Georgetown Crowd . This group included Frank Wisner, Richard Bissell, Desmond FitzGerald, Joseph Alsop, Tracy Barnes, Philip Graham, Katharine Graham, David Bruce, Clark Clifford, Walt Rostow, Eugene Rostow, Chip Bohlen and Paul Nitze. The Meyers also socialized with other CIA officers or CIA assets James Angleton (Cicely Angleton), Wistar Janney (Mary Wisnar), Ben Bradlee (Antoinette Bradlee) and James Truitt (Anne Truitt).

In October 1961, Mary began visiting John F. Kennedy in the White House. It was about this time she began an affair with the president. Mary told her friends, Ann and James Truitt, that she was keeping a diary about the relationship.

In 1962 Mary made contact with Timothy Leary, the director of research projects at Harvard University. Leary supplied LSD to Mary who used it with Kennedy. Leary also claimed that Mary helped influence Kennedy's views on nuclear disarmament and rapprochement with Cuba. It was later discovered that the FBI was keeping a file on Mary. Later, James Angleton, head of counterintelligence at the CIA admitted that the agency was bugging Mary's telephone and bedroom during this period.

On 12th October, 1964, Mary Pinchot Meyer was shot dead as she walked along the Chesapeake and Ohio towpath in Georgetown. Henry Wiggins, a car mechanic, was working on a vehicle on Canal Road, when he heard a woman shout out: "Someone help me, someone help me". He then heard two gunshots. Wiggins ran to the edge of the wall overlooking the tow path. He later told police he saw "a black man in a light jacket, dark slacks, and a dark cap standing over the body of a white woman."

President Lyndon B. Johnson Address before the General Assembly of the United Nations December 17, 1963

''The greatest of human problems, and the greatest of our common tasks, is to keep the peace and to save the future. All that we have built in the wealth of nations, and all that we plan to do toward a better life for all, will be in vain if our feet should slip, or our vision falter, and our hopes ended in another worldwide war. If there is one commitment more than any other that I would like to leave with you today, it is my unswerving commitment to the keeping and to the strengthening of the peace. Peace is a journey of a thousand miles, and it must be taken one step at a time.

We know what we want:

The United States wants to prevent the dissemination of nuclear weapons to nations not now possessing them;
The United States wants to press on with arms control and reduction;
The United States wants to cooperate with all the members of this Organization to conquer everywhere the ancient enemies of mankind--hunger, and disease and ignorance;
The United States wants sanity, and security, and peace for all, and above all.
President Kennedy, I am sure, would regard as his best memorial the fact that in his 3 years as President the world became a little safer and the way ahead became a little brighter.''

The Story of the Kennedy Half Dollar
...
With President Johnson's proposed legislation in hand, the House of Representatives took up the matter exactly one week later, on December 17, 1963. Issues of concern raised on the floor that day included a lengthy discussion of the President's proposed use of the 50-cent denomination for the new coin to honor John F. Kennedy as well as the timing of the new coin's release

* The U.S. Mint had been quietly preparing to introduce the Kennedy coin since the days immediately following the assassination. There were "trial strikes" of Kennedy half dollars as early as Dec. 13. Mint officials wanted to put the new coins into production as close as possible to the start of the year to avoid having two versions circulating with a 1964 date.

* Jacqueline Kennedy and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy viewed test strikes of the new coin on Dec. 17, 1963. They asked mint officials to replace the profile portrait with a design showing a full figure or half figure of the late president. The mint's chief engraver, Gilroy Roberts, said there was not enough time to prepare new designs, and "strongly advocated the simplicity and directness of a profile portrait as being the best possible arrangement for a handsome, outstanding coin whose beauty would endure." -

For 50 years after John F Kennedy’s assassination in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963, almost no one has laid eyes on the pink suit Jacqueline Kennedy was wearing the day her husband died.

Preserved in a climate-controlled vault outside of Washington, the suit and its accessories, still stained with JFK's blood, are being held by the National Archives under strict Kennedy family restrictions that it not be seen until at least 2103.

JFK'S "CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS" SPEECH (10/22/62) (COMPLETE AND UNCUT)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIA_cryptonym
AMWORLD: A plan initiated June 28, 1963, to overthrow the Castro regime in a coup on December 1, 1963 (C-Day), that would have installed Juan Almeida Bosque, a top ranking Cuban military officer, as the new head of state.[13][18]
Some Cuban exiles referred to C-Day as "Plan Omega

http://www.maryferrell.org/wiki/index.php/Two_Tracks_on_Cuba

In 1963, after the Missile Crisis, the Kennedy administration continued to grapple with the problem of Cuba. CIA's project AMTRUNK continued to look for leaders inside Cuba to overthrow the Castro regime. Contingency plans for a military invasion of Cuba were formulated in support of a possible coup; a new theory put forth in the book Ultimate Sacrifice declares that these were more than contingency plans, and that an actual coup was planned for December 1, 1963.

At the same time as the continued planning, President Kennedy, perhaps shaken by the events of October 1962, looked for ways to defuse the situation and reach accommodation with Castro. On March 30, 1963, the State Dept. and Justice Dept. jointly announced their intent to ensure that Cuban exile groups conducting sabotage raids would no longer do so from U.S. soil. Faced with raids on training camps and loss of support, some of these groups relocated to other countries such as Nicaragua.

In September, following an interview of Castro by journalist Lisa Howard, Kennedy approved secret contacts between U.N. delegate William Atwood and Cuban Ambassador to the U.N. Carlos Lechuga. A preliminary meeting took place, and plans for more substantive talks in a neutral setting such as Mexico were proposed. Concern that such talks not leak out even to the rest of Kennedy's own government contributed to delays in organizing the secret talks.

In the midst of these events, the CIA reactivated contacts with Rolando Cubela, code-named AMLASH, an apparently disgruntled Cuban government official interesting in overthrowing Castro. High-level CIA officer Desmond Fitzgerald, at this time head of the Special Affairs Staff, took the extroardinary step of meeting with Cubela directly, and representing himself as an emissary of Robert Kennedy (there is no indication RFK was informed of this). On November 22, Cubela was being handed a poison pen by a CIA representative when news of Kennedy's death broke up the meeting.

Controversy lingers over whether the "two tracks" on Cuba were both under control of President Kennedy, or whether the CIA actively undermined Kennedy's peace initiatives by contacting Cubela.

Ultimate Sacrifice

John and Robert Kennedy. the Plan for a Coup in Cuba, and the murder of JFK
by Lamar Waldron with Thom Hartmann
Counterpoint Press, 2005, paperback

JFK's top-secret plan [was] to overthrow Castro an invade Cuba on December 1, 1963. "The Plan for a Coup in Cuba" (as it was titled in a memo for the Joint Chiefs of Staff) would include a "palace coup" to eliminate Castro, allowing a new Cuban "Provisional Government" to step into the power vacuum. The coup would be supported by a "full-scale invasion" of Cuba by the US military, if necessary
...
p2
In 1963, Juan Almeida was the powerful Commander of the Cuban Army, one of the most famous heroes of the Revolution-and he was going to lead JFK's "palace coup" against Fidel. Commander Almeida had been in direct contact with john and Robert Kennedy's top Cuban exile aide since May of 1963, and both men would be part of Cuba's new, post-coup Provisional Government. By the morning of November 22, 1963, Almeida had even received a large cash payment authorized by the Kennedys, and the CIA had placed his family under US protection in a foreign country

The "Plan for a Coup in Cuba" was fully authorized by JFK and personally run by Robert Kennedy Only about a dozen people in the US government knew the full scope of the plan, all of whom worked for the military or the CIA, or reported directly to Robert. The Kennedys' plan was prepared primarily by the US military, with the CIA playing a major supporting role. Input was also obtained from key officials in a few other agencies, but most of those who worked on the plan knew only about carefully compartmentalized aspects, believing it to be a theoretical exercise in case a Cuban official volunteered to depose Fidel.

The CIA's code name for their part of the coup plan has never surfaced in any book, article, or government report. Officially declassified in 1999, AMWORLD is the cryptonym the CIA used for the plan in their top-secret, internal documents Like the rest of the Kennedy coup plan, AMWORLD was withheld from Congress-including at least five Congressional investigations -for decades.

Congress was fully informed about AMWORLD only on March 14, 2006, when Rep. Christopher Shays's National Security subcommittee accepted for the record a six-page report from us detailing AMWORLD and JFK's coup plan.

Not only is JFK's coup plan/AMWORLD different from any previously disclosed US operation to eliminate Castro, it was far more advanced. As head of the Cuban Army, Commander Almeida controlled thousands of troops and was far more powerful than any other Cuban official the CIA had managed to enlist. The CIA had only recruited a disgruntled mid-level official named Rolando Cubela (codenamed AMLASH), while the CIA's AMTRUNK program tried without much success to recruit from the ranks of the Cuban military. Those plans were still in their early stages and having little success-unlike the Kennedy's coup plan, which was beginning the ten-day countdown to its December 1, 1963 coup on the day JFK died.

p2
The Kennedys coup plan/AMWORLD was undoubtedly one of the most secret covert operations in United States history. In its secrecy, however, lay tragedy. Even though the Kennedys' coup plan never came to fruition, three powerful Mafia dons-Carlos Marcello, Santo Trafficante, and Johnny Rosselli - learned of AMWORLD though their work for the CIA in other antiCastro plots. The Mafia bosses realized that high government officials would go to any lengths to avoid revealing it to the public. With that knowledge, the three mob bosses were able to assassinate JFK in a way that forced the truth to be buried for over forty years.

They did so by infiltrating key parts of AMWORLD, even though the Kennedys had barred the Mafia from any involvement in the coup plan or in post-coup Cuba (where the Mafia would not be allowed to reopen their casinos). The Mafia chiefs linked aspects of JFK's death to AMWORLD, while planting evidence to make it appear as if Castro had been behind the assassination. They knew this would prevent a full investigation of JFK'S murder-in order to protect the coup plan-and might even prompt a US invasion of Cuba. But their main goal was the death of JFK, so they had to act before December 1, 1963 in order to use the extreme secrecy surrounding the coup to shield their actions.

1. Documents Relating to "C-Day" Coup Plan

These documents relate to the alleged coup plan discussed in the book. The documents per se are certainly not conclusive on the "C-Day" plan, which is undocumented to the extent that even the term "C-Day" is invented by the authors in the absence of an actual one. Similarly, the CIA's AMWORLD operation is not clearly defined by the documents, except to the extent that it definitely involved Manuel Artime and was related to the movement of his operation to Nicaragua in 1963. However, tantalizing information in reports about Cuban exiles includes talk of a "PLAN JUDAS," the December 1 date in at least one instance, and other supportive details. Ultimately, evidence for the existence of such a coup plan relies mainly on the interviews conducted by the authors.

http://www.maryferrell.org/wiki/index.php/Legacy_of_Secrecy
...

Legacy of Secrecy continues the call for release of additional documents related to AMWORLD and other matters. Author Lamar Waldron has called attention to a 2000 OMB Watch report entitled A Presumption of Disclosure, which reviewed the performance of the Assassination Records Review Board, noting accomplishments but also making the claim that "'well over a million CIA records' are still outstanding."

http://www.maryferrell.org/wiki/index.php/Freeing_the_JFK_Files

...
The State of the JFK Files

So, are the JFK files now all free? Not quite. While voluminous previously-secret records are now available, study of them points the way to what is missing and potentially significant.

For instance, it was only late in the ARRB's term that it came across records for CIA project AMWORLD, a key 1963 program of moving Manuel Artime and other anti-Castro exiles offshore, and interpreted by author Lamar Waldron as being formed in support of a Kennedy coup plan for Cuba. The handful of AMWORLD records point to more.

JFK's Biggest Secret Revealed -- But Will Congress Keep History from Repeating Itself?
by Thom Hartmann and Lamar Waldron

The US government has finally made available to the public the biggest secret of JFK's presidency: In November 1963, JFK was secretly working with the #3 official in Cuba -- Commander Juan Almeida, head of the Cuban Army -- to stage a "palace coup" against Fidel Castro. Even today, the CIA currently lists Almeida as the #3 official in Cuba, just behind Raul Castro. The fact that Almeida remained unexposed and high in the Cuban government for decades is a primary reason that over four million pages of JFK assassination files were kept secret until the late 1990s

Almeida's revelation removes the last legitimate reason for keeping any of the JFK files secret. Even though their release was required by the 1992 JFK Act -- passed unanimously by Congress, due to the efforts of Senators like John Kerry and Christopher Dodd -- "well over a million CIA records" about the assassination remain secret until 2017. The Secret Service admitted destroying key records in 1995, three years after the law was passed, an incident that has never been investigated by Congress. And in late September 2006, a federal judge ignored the JFK Act when he threw out a lawsuit by a Washington Post reporter seeking files about Oswald, which the CIA had lied about withholding from the 1978 House Select Committee on Assassinations (which included then-Congressman Dodd).

Recently declassified files show that in addition to protecting Almeida, agencies from the CIA to the FBI to Naval Intelligence also withheld information to hide their own intelligence failures and domestic surveillance operations, as well as to protect the reputations of their own agencies and key officials. Santayana said, "those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." That is certainly true in this case since, as the following examples show, that is true in this case since all the secrecy has impacted US domestic and foreign policy for decades, and continues to do so.

The JFK-Almeida coup plan (codenamed AMWORLD by the CIA) came about because of the failure to resolved the October 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. As JFK's Secretary of State Dean Rusk revealed to us -- and files later confirmed -- JFK's pledge not to invade Cuba never took effect because of Fidel's refusal to allow "UN inspections" for "weapons of mass destruction" that were part of JFK's deal with the Soviets to end the crisis. JFK, not Bush, was the first president to use those terms -- and to suffer tragic consequences because problems with such inspections led to an attempt to overthrow a foreign dictator.

The JFK-Almeida coup failed because it was infiltrated by three Mafia bosses targeted for prosecution by Attorney General Robert Kennedy (who played the leading role in managing the coup plan for his brother). The Mafia chiefs -- banned by the Kennedys from the coup plan, and from reopening their casinos in Cuba -- infiltrated the CIA's portion of the coup plan, and used parts of it to kill JFK in Dallas. This forced key US officials -- RFK, LBJ, and J. Edgar Hoover -- into a cover-up to protect Almeida and prevent a possible nuclear confrontation with the Soviets, a cover-up which continued for decades.

The Mafia bosses infiltrated the JFK-Almeida coup plan using contacts established during Richard Nixon's first "October Surprise," in 1960. The CIA admits it was working with the Mafia chiefs at that time, in an attempt to assassinate Fidel just before the 1960 election between Nixon and JFK. Unknown to JFK, the CIA continued using the Mafia bosses in their own anti-Castro operations into October and November of 1963, giving the mobsters a way to infiltrate JFK's coup plan with Almeida.

Robert Kennedy knew who killed his brother, and even told associates about the leading role of New Orleans godfather Carlos Marcello. But RFK couldn't tell the Warren Commission or the public -- or even allow a thorough investigation -- without endangering Almeida and risking World War III. The FBI finally got a detailed confession from Marcello in 1985 when he was in prison, thanks to a trusted FBI informant deemed credible by a Federal judge. But the FBI and the Reagan-Bush Justice Department withheld it from the public. They also refused to prosecute Marcello for numerous crimes the godfather confessed to on hundreds of hours of tapes generated by a court-authorized bug in his prison cell. This allowed Marcello to go free, after he was released from prison on a technicality. All of those 1985 tapes are still being withheld more than a decade after the godfather's death.

The JFK-Almeida coup plan -- and the Mafia's infiltration of it -- was withheld from the Warren Commission and at least six Congressional Committees, and some of those involved are still active in politics. Current Senator Arlen Specter was the Warren Commission attorney who dealt with two JFK aides who said they were pressured to alter their testimony about seeing shots from the grassy knoll "for the good of the country."

A dozen veterans of the JFK-Almeida coup plan -- and the Mafia's infiltration of it -- were involved in Watergate, though it was withheld from Congress and Justice Department prosecutors (including Ben-Veniste, later a member of the 9-11 Commission). At that time, Robert Bennett -- now a Senator from Utah -- had employed one of those veterans and was feeding information to Bob Woodward to protect the CIA.

Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld were key officials in the Ford Administration -- and George H. W. Bush was CIA Director -- when information about the Mafia's infiltration of the JFK-Almeida coup plan was withheld from the Senate Church Committee (including Gary Hart and Walter Mondale) and Congress's Pike Committee.

Several veterans of the JFK-Almeida coup plan later surfaced in Iran-Contra, during the Reagan-Bush Administration. Some were involved with then-US Ambassador John Negroponte, currently the National Intelligence Director. But relevant information about the JFK-Almeida coup plan and the Mafia's infiltration of it was withheld from the Iran-Contra Committee (co-chaired by Lee Hamilton, later a member of the 9-11 Commission), and Senator John Kerry's Subcommittee on Narcotics.

Even after Kerry and Dodd helped to spearhead the 1992 JFK Act, the CIA and other agencies continued to withhold key information. US military and CIA veterans of the JFK-Almeida coup plan began a new outreach to high Cuban military officials in the mid-1990s. While those in the US military seemed sincere, this outreach would also allow the CIA to claim the 1963 files couldn't be released because the same people were still involved in the same type of active, ongoing operation.

•In the 1990s, numerous US coup attempts against Saddam failed for the same basic reason the JFK-Almeida coup plan failed (and one even resulted in an assassination attempt against President George H. W. Bush). Likewise, several of the key intelligence failures by the Bush Administration, the CIA, and the FBI in the months before 9-11 mirror those in declassified files about the 1963 intelligence failures that preceded JFK's assassination. But because of all the secrecy, those failures were never exposed. The lessons of history couldn't be learned, so the same agencies kept making the same mistakes -- and history kept repeating itself.

That will continue to be the tragic case, unless the public demands that Congress no longer allow the agencies and the courts to ignore the 1992 JFK Act. It's not just a partisan issue. Rep. Christopher Shays was the first member of Congress to acknowledge the files that are still being withheld, in the March 14, 2006 hearings of his National Security Subcommittee. Now that the US government has declassified Commander Almeida's secret work for JFK, there is no legitimate reason to withhold the "well over a million CIA records" and not to investigate the files the Secret Service and other agencies admit destroying.

As for Almeida, both RFK and the CIA were certain he was sincere in 1963 and not a double agent, and the evidence backs that up. Fidel only learned about Almeida's work for JFK in 1990, after which Almeida disappeared for several years. Fidel allowed him to rejoin the Cuban government because now -- as in 1963 -- he is one of the highest Black officials in Cuba, an important consideration in a country where some estimate that seventy percent of the population is of African descent. Almeida's family is safe because after RFK and the CIA helped them leave Cuba on a pretext in the fall of 1963, they never returned to Cuba to live.

Because Almeida's family and his work for JFK have been officially declassified, we can now tell the full story of the JFK-Almeida coup -- and its penetration by Marcello -- in the new, updated trade paperback edition of our book Ultimate Sacrifice: John and Robert Kennedy, the Plan for a Coup in Cuba, and the Murder of JFK. As it details, there was not a large conspiracy that killed JFK -- none of those named in this article were involved, except Marcello -- but there was a big effort to protect Almeida and to cover-up information that could harm the reputations of agencies and key officials.

With the publicity surrounding the release of the JFK-Almeida coup plan, this may be America's last chance to get the files JFK released before the year 2017 (when all the files are supposed to be released). With every member of Congress -- and a third of the Senate -- up for re-election, is there any reason to vote for a candidate who doesn't want to see the law enforced and all the JFK files released?

During June 1963, the Joint Chiefs approve plans for an internal coup in Cuba

The top officers at Headquarters’ Special Affairs Staff (SAS) and at JMWAVE generally assumed that Castro’s assassination was necessary for the internal coup to be successful.

In May 1963, the CIA’s Office of National Estimates evaluated what would happen if Castro was killed, and concluded that the gains could be heightened if a conflict broke out between the Cuban nationalists and the Moscow-line Communists shortly after his assassination. FitzGerald got a note from the psychological warfare chief that this is the “long-awaited memo on Castro death contingency”.[ 22 ]

The plan for an “internal coup” was finally proposed by the CIA to the Joint Chiefs in June 1963, saying that “several promising operations are already underway”, and received JFK’s approval on June 19.[ 23 ] We do know that the Kennedys were deeply involved in AMTRUNK and AMWORLD (a plan to foment an internal uprising, followed by small landings by Cuban exiles launched from Nicaragua and Costa Rica).

We don’t know, however, if the Kennedys knew anything about AMROD (falsely branding Moscow-liners as CIA agents), AMLASH (Cubela as assassin), and the ZR-RIFLE assassination efforts of Harvey, Morales and Roselli.

Strangely RFK moved to relax travel to Cuba in Dec 1963 - So AMWORLD was over with his brothers assassination , Castro was not the threat - it was internal.

ROBERT F. KENNEDY URGED LIFTING  TRAVEL BAN TO CUBA IN '63

Attorney General cited inconsistency with "our views as a free society"
State Department overruled RFK proposal to withdraw prohibitions on travel

Documents Record First Internal Debate to Lift Ban

National Security Archive Electronic Briefing Book No. 158

For more information contact  Peter Kornbluh - 202/994-7116 - [email protected]
Re-posted - April 23, 2009

Washington D.C. April 23, 2009 - Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy sought to lift the ban on U.S. citizens traveling to Cuba in December 1963, according to declassified records re-posted today by the National Security Archive. In a December 12, 1963, memorandum to Secretary of State Dean Rusk, Kennedy urged a quick decision "to withdraw the existing regulation prohibiting such trips." [ http://www2.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB158/19631212.pdf ]

Kennedy's memo, written less than a month after his brother's assassination in Dallas, argues that the travel ban imposed at the end of the Eisenhower administration was a violation of American freedoms and impractical in terms of law enforcement. Among his "principal arguments" for removing the restrictions on travel to Cuba was that freedom to travel "is more consistent with our views as a free society and would contrast with such things as the Berlin Wall and Communist controls on such travel."
...

Document 1: Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General, "Travel to Cuba," December 12, 1963
http://www2.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB158/19631212.pdf

In a comprehensive memorandum to Secretary of State Dean Rusk, Robert Kennedy presented the arguments for legalizing travel to Cuba before a number of student groups traveled there at Christmas time. There were two courses of action, he wrote: new efforts to block increased travel to Cuba, or "to withdraw the existing regulation prohibiting such trips. The first is unlikely to meet the problem and I favor the second," Kennedy informed Rusk. In his memo he presented several arguments for lifting the travel ban: that it was a violation of American liberties to restrict free travel; that it was impractical to arrest, indict and engage in "distasteful prosecutions" of scores of U.S. citizens who sought to go to Cuba; and that lifting the travel ban was likely to diminish the attraction of leftists who were organizing protest trips to Havana. "For all these reasons I believe that it would be wise to remove restrictions on travel to Cuba before we are faced with problems which are likely to be created in the immediate future."

Document 2: State Department, "Travel Regulations," December 13, 1963

Two State Department officers, legal advisor Abram Chayes and Abba Schwartz summarize Kennedy's arguments that "the ban on travel to Cuba be removed immediately," including that "the present travel restrictions are inconsistent with traditional American liberties." They note that lifting restrictions to Cuba is likely to be undertaken in the context of lifting most travel restrictions to other nations. They support Kennedy's proposal but favor passport validation which would require those who travel to apply for permission from the Secretary of State to go to Cuba.

Document 3: NSC, "Travel Controls-Cuba," December 18, 1963
http://www2.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB158/19631218.pdf

This memo, written by the NSC's Latin American specialist Gordon Chase to national security advisor McGeorge Bundy, reveals that the Attorney General's proposal has been overruled at the State Department.

At a meeting on December 13, to which Justice department officials were not invited, State Department officials from the Latin American division successfully argued that lifting the ban would compromise U.S. pressures on other nations in the hemisphere to isolate Cuba and block students from traveling there. In addition, according to Chase, Abba Schwartz believed that Lyndon Johnson could not politically afford to lift the ban because it would "make him look unacceptably soft." The State Department's attention turns to steps the government can take to prevent U.S. students from violating the ban and traveling to Cuba.

Robert Kennedy tried to lift Cuba travel ban: documents
(AFP) – Apr 23, 2009

WASHINGTON (AFP) — One month after president John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, his brother, attorney general Robert Kennedy, tried to convince the US government to lift its travel ban to Cuba, according to documents released Thursday by the National Security Archive
...

The travel ban remained in effect until president Jimmy Carter refused to extend in 1977, but was reinstated under president Ronald Reagan in 1981.

President Barack Obama on April 13 lifted all travel restrictions for Cuban-Americans with relatives in Cuba.

Robert Kennedy was attorney general from 1961-1964, then served as New York senator until his assassination in June 1968, when he was campaigning for the Democratic Party presidential nomination in California.

Mark Lane ’s defense brief for Oswald

Oswald Innocent?—A Lawyer’s Brief
A Report to the Warren Commission by Mark Lane

VOL. 16 No. 11    NEW YORK, DECEMBER 19, 1963
By Mark Lane

IN ALL LIKELIHOOD there does not exist a single American community where reside 12 men or women, good and true, who presume that Lee Harvey Oswald did not assassinate President Kennedy. No more savage comment can be made in reference to the breakdown of the Anglo-Saxon system of jurisprudence. At the very foundation of our judicial operation lies a cornerstone which shelters the innocent and guilty alike against group hysteria, manufactured evidence, overzealous law enforcement officials, in short, against those factors which militate for an automated, prejudged, neatly packaged verdict of guilty. It is the sacred right of every citizen accused of committing a crime to the presumption of innocence.

This presumption, it has been written, is a cloak donned by the accused when the initial charge is made, and worn by him continuously. It is worn throughout the entire case presented against him, and not taken from the defendant until after he has had an opportunity to cross-examine hostile witnesses, present his own witnesses and to testify himself.

Oswald did not testify. Indeed, there will be no case, no trial, and Oswald, murdered while in police custody, still has no lawyer. Under such circumstances the development of a possible defense is difficult, almost impossible. Under such circumstances, the development of such a defense is obligatory.

There will be an investigation. No investigation, however soundly motivated, can serve as an adequate substitute for trial. Law enforcement officials investigate every criminal case before it is presented to a jury. The investigation in almost all such cases results in the firm conviction by the investigator that the accused is guilty. A jury often finds the defendant innocent, notwithstanding.

That which intervenes between the zealous investigator and the jury is due process of law, developed at great cost in human life and liberty over the years. It is the right to have irrelevant testimony barred. It is the right to have facts, not hopes or thoughts or wishes or prejudicial opinions, presented. It is the right to test by cross-examination the veracity of every witness and the value of his testimony. It is, perhaps above all, the right to counsel of one’s own choice, so that all the other rights may be protected. In this defense, Oswald has forfeited all rights along with his life.

The reader, inundated at the outset with 48 solid television, radio and newspaper hours devoted to proving the guilt of the accused and much additional “evidence” since then, cannot now examine this case without bringing to it certain preconceived ideas. We ask, instead, only for a temporary suspension of certainty.

Past president Harry Truman now feels the need to write an essay about the CIA's role - wonder why...

Harry Truman Writes:
Limit CIA Role  To Intelligence

By Harry S Truman
Copyright, 1963, by Harry S Truman

INDEPENDENCE, MO., Dec. 21 — I think it has become necessary to take another look at the purpose and operations of our Central Intelligence Agency—CIA. At least, I would like to submit here the original reason why I thought it necessary to organize this Agency during my Administration, what I expected it to do and how it was to operate as an arm of the President.
...
For some time I have been disturbed by the way CIA has been diverted from its original assignment. It has become an operational and at times a policy-making arm of the Government. This has led to trouble and may have compounded our difficulties in several explosive areas.

I never had any thought that when I set up the CIA that it would be injected into peacetime cloak and dagger operations. Some of the complications and embarrassment I think we have experienced are in part attributable to the fact that this quiet intelligence arm of the President has been so removed from its intended role that it is being interpreted as a symbol of sinister and mysterious foreign intrigue—and a subject for cold war enemy propaganda.

With all the nonsense put out by Communist propaganda about "Yankee imperialism," "exploitive capitalism," "war-mongering," "monopolists," in their name-calling assault on the West, the last thing we needed was for the CIA to be seized upon as something akin to a subverting influence in the affairs of other people.

I well knew the first temporary director of the CIA, Adm. Souers, and the later permanent directors of the CIA, Gen. Hoyt Vandenberg and Allen Dulles. These were men of the highest character, patriotism and integrity—and I assume this is true of all those who continue in charge.

But there are now some searching questions that need to be answered. I, therefore, would like to see the CIA be restored to its original assignment as the intelligence arm of the President, and that whatever else it can properly perform in that special field—and that its operational duties be terminated or properly used elsewhere.

We have grown up as a nation, respected for our free institutions and for our ability to maintain a free and open society. There is something about the way the CIA has been functioning that is casting a shadow over our historic position and I feel that we need to correct it.

64 - Remarks at a Candlelight Memorial Service for President Kennedy.
December 22, 1963

THIRTY DAYS and a few hours ago, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th President of the United States, died a martyr's death. The world will not forget what he did here. He will live on in our hearts, which will be his shrine.

Throughout his life, he had malice toward none; he had charity for all. But a senseless act of mindless malice struck down this man of charity, and we shall never be the same.
...
So let us here on this Christmas night determine that John Kennedy did not live or die in vain, that this Nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom, and that we may achieve in our time and for all time the ancient vision of peace on earth, good will toward all men.

Dec 31 1963: Driskill Hotel - Austin Tx

Lyndon Johnson and the JFK Assassination
 June 6, 2013

On the night of New Year's Eve Dec. 31st, 1963, at the Driskill Hotel, Lyndon Johnson and Madeleine Brown, one of his longtime mistresses, had an interesting conversation. Madeleine asked LBJ if he had anything to do with the JFK assassination. Johnson got angry; he began pacing around and waving his arms. Then LBJ told her: it was Dallas, TX, oil executives and "renegade" intelligence agents who were behind the JFK assassination. LBJ later also told his chief of staff Marvin Watson that the CIA was involved in the murder of John Kennedy.

Lyndon Johnson would often stay at the Driskill (room #254 today) and LBJ is confirmed by his presidential schedule as being present at the Driskill Hotel the night of 12/31/63

History is proving that Lyndon Johnson played a key role in the JFK assassination. An important book is LBJ: The Mastermind of the JFK Assassination (2011) by Phillip Nelson.  Roger Stone, an aide to Richard Nixon, is writing a book pinning the JFK assassination on LBJ. Stone quotes Nixon as saying “Both Johnson and I wanted to be president, but the only difference was I wouldn’t kill for it.”

By 1973 Barry Goldwater privately telling people that he was convinced that LBJ was behind the JFK assassination.
...
According to Evelyn Lincoln, JFK's longtime secretary, LBJ and Sam Rayburn were using some of Hoover's blackmail information on John Kennedy to force JFK to put Johnson on the ticket in a hostile takeover of the vice presidency.

Phone Call: President Johnson and Mrs. Kennedy

The following is a phone call between President Johnson and Mrs. Kennedy that took place on January 1, 1964.

LBJ: Hello?
JBK: Hello?
LBJ: Happy New Year.
JBK: Oh! Happy New Year to you, Mr. President!
LBJ: How you doing?
JBK: Oh, I’m doing fine. [inaudible] have to do?
LBJ: You getting some sunshine?
JBK: [laughing] Oh, it’s pouring rain today!
LBJ: We have a beautiful day here.
JBK: Oh, I see you’re all in Texas. It looked so successful, the Erhard thing. That really went off beautifully, didn’t it?
LBJ: Yes, we had a good meeting. He’s a pretty good fellow.
JBK: [inaudible] gosh, you know, I thought you’d get some rest when you get home, but you’re doing more than you do at the White House.
LBJ: Well—
JBK: [inaudible]
LBJ: I did this afternoon. I just waked up. I’m still in bed, and I just waked up thinking about you and wondering how you were getting along and what you did during the holidays. Santa Claus come see the kiddos?
JBK: Oh, [inaudible] so nice to me.
LBJ: I haven’t been nice to you. I just—I want to see you. When you coming back to Washington?
JBK: Sunday.
LBJ: Sunday?
JBK: Yes.
LBJ: Well I’ll probably come back Sunday, too. I haven’t made up my mind, but that’s pretty persuasive.
JBK: [Laughs] I’ll find out a time and let you know.
LBJ: Any time. Any time. You just quit being so modest now. Did you have any fun at all? Did you get out on the water any?
JBK: Oh, I did. I went swimming [inaudible]. And the presents! Gosh, that [inaudible].
LBJ: Well, you’re sweet. You’re sweet.
JBK: That was a wonderful [unclear].
LBJ: Well, bless your heart. They did a good job on you. Tell me, does John [Kennedy Jr.] like his automobile?
JBK: Oh, he loves that so! He loves that so. That ladder, we have to take it [inaudible]
LBJ: [Laughs.]
JBK: —up the stairs, up to his bedroom, down to the living room. He’s so mad about it.
LBJ: I’m going to come see him when he gets back to Washington.
JBK: So cute. Please see him.
LBJ: Well, she’s in—she was up to see the Navy game today, and Lynda had mixed emotions. Her boyfriend was a Navy man, and she was going to Texas.
JBK: Oh, who won? Did they go [inaudible]?
LBJ: Yeah, 28 to 6, Navy.
JBK: Navy?
LBJ: I mean Texas, Texas.
JBK: Oh, really?
LBJ: 28-6 Texas.
JBK: Oh, my.
LBJ: Yeah.
JBK: Oh, that’s the Cotton Bowl!
LBJ: Yeah. That’s right.
JBK: I was [inaudible].
LBJ: That’s right.
JBK: Good for them.
LBJ: You sound cheerful. I hope you are.
JBK: We’re all getting so much better. You know, everything’s better now.
LBJ: I think you’re a pretty great girl myself.
JBK: You’re very kind, Mr. President.
LBJ: All right—
JBK: [Inaudible]
LBJ: I just wanted to hear your voice and wish you a Happy New Year, and I’ll see you next week.
JBK: Great, Mr. President. You know, I’m so touched by it. And to think of the kids, too, with all you’ve got to do.
LBJ: Well, I’ve got a lot to do with you yet, dear.
JBK: Well, I would do anything for you!
LBJ: All right. Goodbye, darling.
JBK: Goodbye. Happy New Year!

Religion Roman Catholicism
Konrad Hermann Joseph Adenauer (German pronunciation: [ˈkɔnʁaːt ˈhɛɐman ˈjoːzɛf ˈaːdənaʊɐ]; 5 January 1876 – 19 April 1967) was a German statesman. As the first post-war Chancellor of Germany (West Germany) from 1949 to 1963, he led his country from the ruins of World War II to a productive and prosperous nation that forged close relations with old enemies France and the United States.[1]

...
In October 1962, a scandal erupted when police arrested five Der Spiegel journalists, charging them with espionage for publishing a memo detailing weaknesses in the West German armed forces. Adenauer had not initiated the arrests, but initially defended the person responsible, Defense Minister Franz Josef Strauss, and called the Spiegel memo "abyss of treason". After public outrage and heavy protests from the coalition partner FDP he dismissed Strauss, but the reputation of Adenauer and his party had already suffered.[264][265]

Adenauer managed to remain in office for almost another year, but the scandal increased the pressure already on him to fulfill his promise to resign before the end of the term. Adenauer was not on good terms in his last years of power with his economics minister Ludwig Erhard and tried to block him from the chancellorship.

In January 1963, Adenauer privately supported General Charles de Gaulle's veto of Britain's attempt to join the European Economic Community, and was only prevented from saying so openly by the need to preserve unity in his cabinet as most of his ministers led by Ludwig Erhard supported Britain's application.[266]

A Francophile, Adenauer saw a Franco-German partnership as the key for European peace and prosperity and shared de Gaulle's view that Britain would be a disputative force in the EEC.[267] Adenauer failed in his efforts to block Erhard as his successor, and in October 1963 he turned the office over to Erhard. He did remain chairman of the CDU until his resignation in December 1966

Ludwig Wilhelm Erhard (German: [ˈluːdvɪk ˈɛʁhaʁt]; 4 February 1897 – 5 May 1977) was a German politician affiliated with the CDU and Chancellor of West Germany from 1963 until 1966. He is notable for his leading role in German postwar economic reform and economic recovery ("Wirtschaftswunder", German for "economic miracle"), particularly in his role as Minister of Economics under Chancellor Konrad Adenauer in 1949, prior to his own ascension to the Chancellorship in 1963.
...
After the resignation of Adenauer in 1963, Erhard was elected Chancellor with 279 against 180 votes in the Bundestag on 16 October. In 1965, he was re-elected. From 1966 to 1967, he also headed the Christian Democratic Union as de facto chairman, despite the fact that he was never a member of that party (which made his election to the chairmanship irregular and void de jure), as he never formally filed a membership application despite pressures from Chancellor Adenauer

In this thread, I haven't covered HW Bush or Nixon much , but I think it was no accident they ended up as Presidents:

Nixon was the intended President follow up MIC controlled Eisenhower ( but hey Kennedy's were made men too)  , LBJ became placed as VP by using Hoover supplied blackmail on the Kennedy brothers, I showed earlier how Ford was Blackmailed by LBJ,  Carter was another controlled asset ( NUCK Navy man/OSI - just keep eating those peanuts "Jimmy" ( it is interesting that under Carter "banned" assassinations...

JFK Assassination Conspiracy:

The Whole Bay of Pigs Thing:

Nixon once said of WaterGate that it could uncover "the whole Bay of Pigs things". By this discrete and hidden statement we now know that he was revealing inside knowledge of deeper ties between the WaterGate burglers (E. Howard Hunt, and Frank Sturgis) and their ties to previous covert operations. Although these men have careers going back to before the Bay of Pigs invasion. There are deeper hidden ties between these individuals and events that will be revealed in the course of this page.

Nixon was in Dallas to give a morning address to a soda bottler's convention and left the city at 9:05 a.m., about three hours before the assassination, Baker writes. He was back in New York City when the news of the assassination shocked the nation. Nixon also called a press conference...on Nov. 21...criticizing Kennedy's policies on civil rights and foreign relations but also urging Texans to show courtesy to the president during his visit."

Nixon also told the reporters on Nov. 21 -- the day before the assassination -- press conference that Kennedy was going to replace Lyndon Johnson with a new running mate in 1964. Baker says "This was a particularly incendiary thing to say, since the whole reason for Kennedy's visit was to cement his links to Texas Democrats, help bridge a gap between the populist and conservative wings of the state party, and highlight his partnership with Johnson." Nixon's comment gained a place in the early edition of the Dallas Morning News on Nov. 23, under the headline: "Nixon Predicts JFK May Drop Johnson."

Lyndon Johnson State of the Union Address - War on Poverty (January 8, 1964)

http://millercenter.org/president/speeches/detail/3382
State of the Union (January 8, 1964)

Lyndon Baines Johnson

Mr. Speaker, Mr. President, members of the House and Senate, my fellow Americans:

I will be brief, for our time is necessarily short and our agenda is already long.

Last year's congressional session was the longest in peacetime history. With that foundation, let us work together to make this year's session the best in the nation's history.

 Let this session of Congress be known as the session which did more for civil rights than the last hundred sessions combined; as the session which enacted the most far-reaching tax cut of our time;

as the session which declared all-out war on human poverty and unemployment in these United States;

as the session which finally recognized the health needs of all our older citizens; as the session which reformed our tangled transportation and transit policies; as the session which achieved the most effective, efficient foreign aid program ever; and as the session which helped to build more homes, more schools, more libraries, and more hospitals than any single session of Congress in the history of our Republic.
...
Let us carry forward the plans and programs of John Fitzgerald Kennedy—not because of our sorrow or sympathy, but because they are right.

In his memory today, I especially ask all members of my own political faith, in this election year, to put your country ahead of your party, and to always debate principles; never debate personalities.

For my part, I pledge a progressive administration which is efficient, and honest and frugal. The budget to be submitted to the Congress shortly is in full accord with this pledge.
...

Unfortunately, many Americans live on the outskirts of hope—some because of their poverty, and some because of theft color, and all too many because of both. Our task is to help replace their despair with opportunity.

This administration today, here and now, declares unconditional war on poverty in America. I urge this Congress and all Americans to join with me in that effort.

It will not be a short or easy struggle, no single weapon or strategy will suffice, but we shall not rest until that war is won. The richest nation on earth can afford to win it. We cannot afford to lose it. One thousand dollars invested in salvaging an unemployable youth today can return $40,000 or more in his lifetime.

Poverty is a national problem, requiring improved national organization and support. But this attack, to be effective, must also be organized at the state and the local level and must be supported and directed by state and local efforts.

For the war against poverty will not be won here in Washington. It must be won in the field, in every private home, in every public office, from the courthouse to the White House.

The program I shall propose will emphasize this cooperative approach to help that one-fifth of all American families with incomes too small to even meet their basic needs.

Our chief weapons in a more pinpointed attack will be better schools, and better health, and better homes, and better training, and better job opportunities to help more Americans, especially young Americans, escape from squalor and misery and unemployment rolls where other citizens help to carry them.

Johnson's war on poverty is about more than feeding and housing the poor

We've become so fixated on welfare that we're missing President Johnson's bigger message about what needs to be done
...
The 50th anniversary of President Lyndon Johnson's announcement of "The War on Poverty" has, of course, brought umpteen assessments of the war's success (and failure). Officially, we haven't moved the needle much. By the Census Department's accounting, the US poverty rate has gone down just four points, from 19 to 15%, and economic inequality has soared. Conservatives argue that the minimal changes in poverty levels just don't justify all the spending on anti-poverty programs. Progressives ask, isn't 46 million people living in poverty still too many? Shouldn't we do more?

That’s rich: Poverty level under Obama breaks 50-year record

By Dave Boyer
The Washington Times
Tuesday, January 7, 2014

Fifty years after President Johnson started a $20 trillion taxpayer-funded war on poverty, the overall percentage of impoverished people in the U.S. has declined only slightly and the poor have lost ground under President Obama.

Aides said Mr. Obama doesn’t plan to commemorate the anniversary Wednesday of Johnson’s speech in 1964, which gave rise to Medicaid, Head Start and a broad range of other federal anti-poverty programs. The president’s only public event Tuesday was a plea for Congress to approve extended benefits for the long-term unemployed, another reminder of the persistent economic troubles during Mr. Obama’s five years in office.

“What I think the American people are really looking for in 2014 is just a little bit of stability,” Mr. Obama said.

Pawtucket's Hasbro Corporation celebrates the launch of one of their most prized products today, the G.I. Joe action figure

The toy was an enormous success when it debuted in 1964, flying off shelves at four dollars a piece. Billed as the world's first "action figure," G.I. Joe was the first ever moveable doll marketed to boys. Fifty years later, Pawtucket's Hasbro is an international success, and Joe has spawned a franchise of comic books, T.V. series, and blockbuster movies--not to mention the bestselling toys and accessories--that has endured for fifty years.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — G.I. Joe is turning 50.

The birthday of what's called the world's first action figure is being celebrated this month by collectors and the toy maker that introduced it just before the nation plunged into the quagmire that would become the Vietnam War — a storm it seems to have weathered pretty well.

Since Hasbro brought it to the world's attention at the annual toy fair in New York City in early 1964, G.I. Joe has undergone many changes, some the result of shifts in public sentiment for military-themed toys, others dictated by the marketplace

"Joe stood for everything that was meant to be good: fighting evil, doing what's right for people," said Alan Hassenfeld, the 65-year-old former CEO for Pawtucket, R.I.-based Hasbro Inc., whose father, Merrill, oversaw G.I. Joe's development in 1963.

G.I. Joe hit the shelves in time for the 1964 Christmas shopping season and soon became a big seller at $4 apiece.

David Francis Powers was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts on 25th April, 1912. Both his parents had emigrated to the United States from County Cork, Ireland. After leaving school he worked for Sampson and Murdock Publishing Company but continued his education by taking evening courses at Boston University.

In 1942 Powers joined the 14th Air Force and during the Second World War and later served with the Flying Tigers in Japan, China and Burma.

In 1946 Powers joined the political campaign of John F. Kennedy. Concentrating on the working-class neighborhood of Charlestown, Powers helped Kennedy to win the 11th Congressional district seat. Powers also helped Kennedy against Henry Cabot Lodge in the 1952 Senate race. During this period, Powers, Larry O'Brien, Matthew McCloskey and Kenneth O'Donnell became known as Kennedy's Irish Mafia.

After Kennedy's successful presidential campaign in 1960, Powers became his Special Assistant. His duties included escorting guests in the White House. Powers was also one of Kennedy's closest political advisers. Pierre Salinger, Kennedy’s press secretary, said Powers was “the most gregarious and popular member of the staff.” Kenneth O'Donnell said: “Outside of Bobby, President Kennedy had one really close friend and that was Dave Powers.”

On the 22nd November, 1963, Powers travelled in the Secret Service car immediately behind the presidential car. Powers later admitted to Tip O'Neill that say that he was sure he had heard two shots that came from behind the Grassy Knoll fence. Kenneth O'Donnell, who was sitting next to Powers, also supported this view of the assassination. O'Donnell commented: "I told the FBI what I had heard, but they said it couldn't have happened that way and that I must have been imagining things. So I testified the way they wanted me to. I just didn't want to stir up any more pain and trouble for the family."

JFK Aide David Francis Powers Dies at 85
 By Bart Barnes
 Washington Post Staff Writer
 Saturday, March 28, 1998; Page B06

David Francis Powers, 85, who helped a young Navy veteran named John F. Kennedy win his first election to Congress and then served as his personal aide and confidant through his presidency, died March 27 at a medical facility in Arlington, Mass. The cause of death was not reported.

Mr. Powers was an unemployed veteran of the Army Air Forces and the famed "Flying Tigers" of World War II when the 27-year-old Kennedy climbed three dimly lighted flights of stairs in an apartment house near Bunker Hill in the Charlestown section of Boston and knocked on his door one day in 1946.

"My name is Jack Kennedy. I'm a candidate for Congress, and I'd like you to work for me," Kennedy said. Mr. Powers, who was known for his connections, access and savvy in the rough-and-tumble of Boston's Irish ethnic politics, took a day to consider the offer. But he finally agreed, and for the next 17 years he was at Kennedy's side for every major decision, crisis, political campaign and presidential trip.

...

"The president hates to be alone, except when he is catching up on his reading," Mr. Powers said in 1962. "So in the evening we watch television together or talk. But when the president starts to read, you don't say anything until he speaks to you."

Hanging above Mr. Powers's desk at the JFK Library and Museum was a picture of the Kennedy children and a thank you note from Jacqueline Kennedy for Mr. Powers's assistance during the weeks after the president's assassination.

For several months after Kennedy's death, Mr. Powers left his White House office daily at noon to have lunch with Jacqueline Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr. at their house in Georgetown. There he usually read stories to the young John Kennedy.

"Mrs. Kennedy thinks the boy eats a bigger lunch when I'm there. I'm always glad to do it," Mr. Powers said.

"Dave Powers was a loyal and devoted friend whom my mother and father adored," said Caroline Kennedy, president of the Kennedy Library Foundation. "I will always be grateful for his personal kindness and for his tireless efforts on behalf of the Kennedy Library."

Washington, DC, May 21, 2014 –  The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit yesterday joined the CIA's cover-up of its Bay of Pigs disaster in 1961 by ruling that a 30-year-old volume of the CIA's draft "official history" could be withheld from the public under the "deliberative process" privilege, even though four of the five volumes have previously been released with no harm either to national security or any government deliberation.

Last week, the National Security Archive filed its appeal in the Washington DC District Court over the release of the fifth and final volume of an internal CIA history of the Bay of Pigs invasion.   The Archive’s FOIA lawsuit has already won the release of three volumes (a fourth was released by the JFK assassination review board).  The CIA  (supported by the Department of Justice) had argued that volume five (but not the other volumes, head scratchingly) must be withheld under the b(5) deliberative process exemption, because its release could “confuse the public.”

(Updated August 2, 2011)

The CIA history of the Bay of Pigs operation in 1961, originally classified top secret, based on dozens of interviews with key operatives and officials and hundreds of CIA documents. The four volumes include information never before released and comprise (I) Air Operations, March 1960-1961; (II) Participation in the Conduct of Foreign Policy; (III) Evolution of CIA's Anti-Castro Policies, 1959-January 1961; and (IV) The Taylor Committee Investigation of the Bay of Pigs.

Thanksgiving Message (November 28, 1963)
Lyndon B. Johnson

My fellow Americans:

On yesterday I went before the Congress to speak for the first time as President of the United States.

Tonight, on this Thanksgiving, I come before you to ask your help, to ask your strength, to ask your prayers that God may guard this Republic and guide my every labor
.

All of us have lived through 7 days that none of us will ever forget. We are not given the divine wisdom to answer why this has been, but we are given the human duty of determining what is to be, what is to be for America, for the world, for the cause we lead, for all the hopes that live in our hearts.

A great leader is dead; a great Nation must move on. Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or to lose. I am resolved that we shall win the tomorrows before us. So I ask you to join me in that resolve, determined that from this midnight of tragedy, we shall move toward a new American greatness.

More than any generation before us, we have cause to be thankful, so thankful, on this Thanksgiving Day. Our harvests are bountiful, our factories flourish, our homes are safe, our defenses are secure. We live in peace. The good will of the world pours out for us.

But more than these blessings, we know tonight that our system is strong--strong and secure. A deed that was meant to tear us apart has bound us together. Our system has passed--you have passed--a great test. You have shown what John F. Kennedy called upon us to show in his proclamation of this Thanksgiving: that decency of purpose, that steadfastness of resolve, and that strength of will which we inherit from our forefathers. What better conveys what is best for America than this?

On Saturday, when these great burdens had been mine only hours, the first two citizens to call upon me and to offer their whole support were Dwight D. Eisenhower and Harry S. Truman.

Since last Friday, Americans have turned to the good, to the decent values of our life. These have served us. Yes, these have saved us. The service of our public institution and our public men is the salvation of us all from the Supreme Court to the States. And how much better would it be, how much more sane it would be, how much more decent and American it would be if all Americans could spend their fortunes and could give their time and spend their energies helping our system and its servants to solve your problems instead of pouring out the venom and the hate that stalemate us in progress.

I have served in Washington 32 years -- 32 years yesterday. I have seen five Presidents fill this awesome office. I have known them well and I have counted them all as friends--President Herbert Hoover, President Franklin Roosevelt, President Harry Truman, President Dwight Eisenhower, and President John Kennedy.

In each administration the greatest burden that the President had to bear had been the burden of his own countrymen's unthinking and unreasoning hate and division.

So, in these days, the fate of this office is the fate of us all. I would ask all Americans on this day of prayer and reverence to think on these things.

Let all who speak and all who teach and all who preach and all who publish and all who broadcast and all who read or listen-let them reflect upon their responsibilities to bind our wounds, to heal our sores, to make our society well and whole for the tasks ahead of us.

It is this work that I most want us to do: to banish rancor from our words and malice from our hearts; to close down the poison spring of hatred and intolerance and fanaticism; to perfect our unity north and south, east and west; to hasten the day when bias of race, religion, and region is no more; and to bring the day when our great energies and decencies and spirit will be free of the burdens that we have borne too long.

Our view is outward, our thrust is forward, but we remember in our hearts this brave young man who lies in honored eternal rest across the Potomac. We remember him; we remember his wonderful and courageous widow that we all love. We remember Caroline and John and all the great family who gave the Nation this son and brother.

And to honor his memory and the future of the works he started, I have today determined that Station No. 1 of the Atlantic Missile Range and the NASA Launch Operation Center in Florida shall hereafter be known as the John F. Kennedy Space Center.

I have also acted today with the understanding and the support of my friend, the Governor of Florida, Farris Bryant, to change the name of Cape Canaveral. It shall be known hereafter as Cape Kennedy.

On this Thanksgiving Day, as we gather in the warmth of our families, in the mutual love and respect which we have for one another, and as we bow our heads in submission to divine providence, let us also thank God for the years that He gave us inspiration through His servant, John F. Kennedy.

Let us today renew our dedication to the ideals that are American. Let us pray for His divine wisdom in banishing from our land any injustice or intolerance or oppression to any of our fellow Americans whatever their opinion, whatever the color of their skins--for God made all of us, not some of us, in His image. All of us, not just some of us, are His children.

And, finally, to you as your President, I ask that you remember your country and remember me each day in your prayers, and I pledge to you the best within me to work for a new American greatness, a new day when peace is more secure, when justice is more universal, when freedom is more strong in every home of all mankind.

Thank you and good night.

THE PRESIDENT’S DAILY DIARY: November 28, 1963-page 2

Who was George McBundy? Why did lbj talk to him at Thanksgiving? Totally the NWO inside man liaison

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McGeorge_Bundy

McGeorge "Mac" Bundy (March 30, 1919 – September 16, 1996) was an American expert in foreign and defense policy, serving as United States National Security Advisor to presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson from 1961 through 1966
. He was president of the Ford Foundation from 1966 through 1979. He is known primarily for his role in escalating the involvement of the United States in the Vietnam War during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations.

After World War II, during which Bundy served as an intelligence officer, in 1949 he was selected for the Council on Foreign Relations. He worked with a study team on implementation of the Marshall Plan. He was appointed as a professor of government at Harvard University, and in 1953 as its youngest dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, working to develop Harvard as a merit-based university. In 1961 he joined Kennedy's administration. After serving at the Ford Foundation, in 1979 he returned to academia as professor of history at New York University, and later as scholar in residence at the Carnegie Corporation.
...
Born in 1919 and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Bundy was the second son of a wealthy family long involved in Republican politics. His older brother was William Putnam Bundy.[1] His mother, Katherine Lawrence (Putnam), was the daughter of two Boston Brahmin families listed in the Social Register. His father, Harvey Hollister Bundy, was from Grand Rapids, Michigan and was a prominent attorney in Boston.

The couple met Colonel Henry L. Stimson and became friends. As Secretary of State under Hoover, in 1931 Stimson appointed Harvey Bundy as his Assistant Secretary of State. Later Bundy served again under Stimson as Secretary of War, acting as Special Assistant on Atomic Matters,[2] and serving as liaison between Stimson and the director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development, Vannevar Bush.[3] William and McGeorge grew up knowing Stimson as a family friend and colleague of their father.[4] The senior Bundy also helped implement the Marshall Plan.

McGeorge Bundy attended the elite Dexter School in Brookline, Massachusetts and the Groton School, where he placed first in his class and ran the student newspaper and debating society. He was admitted to Yale University, one year behind his brother William. At Yale, where he majored in mathematics, he served as secretary of the Yale Political Union and then chairman of its Liberal Party. He was on the staff of the Yale Literary Magazine and also wrote a column for the Yale Daily News. Like his father, he was inducted into the Skull and Bones secret society, where he was nicknamed "Odin". He remained in contact with his fellow Bonesmen for decades afterward.[5] He graduated Yale in the class of 1940.

Military service[edit]

During World War II Bundy served as a U.S. Army intelligence officer

From 1945 to 1947, Bundy worked with Henry L. Stimson as co-author of his third-person autobiography, On Active Service in Peace and War (1947).[7] Stimson had recently retired as US Secretary of War.

In 1949, Bundy took a position at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York to study Marshall Plan aid to Europe. The study group included such luminaries as Dwight Eisenhower, commanding general of the Allied forces; Allen Dulles, Richard M. Bissell, Jr. and George Kennan, diplomat to the Soviet Union. The group's deliberations were sensitive and secret, dealing as they did with the classified fact that there was a covert side to the Marshall Plan, by which the CIA used certain funds to aid anti-communist groups in France and Italy

Bundy moved into public political life in 1961 when appointed as National Security Advisor in the administration of President John F. Kennedy. One of Kennedy's "wise men," Bundy played a crucial role in all of the major foreign policy and defense decisions of the Kennedy administration and was retained by Lyndon B. Johnson for part of his tenure.

Bundy was involved in the Bay of Pigs Invasion, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Vietnam War.

From 1964 under Johnson, he was also Chairman of the 303 Committee, responsible for coordinating government covert operations.[11] Bundy was a strong proponent of the Vietnam War during his tenure, believing it essential to contain communism. He supported escalating United States involvement, including commitment of hundreds of thousands of ground troops and the sustained bombing of North Vietnam in 1965. Studies of the memorandums and policy papers since those years have revealed that Bundy and other advisors well understood the risk but proceeded with these actions largely because of domestic politics, rather than believing that the US had a realistic chance of victory in this war.[4]

He left government in 1966 to serve as president of the Ford Foundation, succeeding his brother William Putnam Bundy. He served in this position until 1979.

...
WHAT IS SO POWERFUL ABOUT THE BUNDY'S?

Most Americans would not recognize the Bundy family as a powerful elite family. However, during recent history two Bundy brothers held the key positions that controlled most of the information that was fed to U.S. Presidents during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. When Johnson took over after J.F. Kennedy was assassinated McGeorge Bundy was in the key position as Nat. Sec. Advisor to determine what the President did and didn’t hear. His brother was in a key State Dept. position. Both Bundy brothers were also fraternal brothers of the Illuminati Order of the Skull and Bones. Interestingly, Jonas Mills Bundy (1835-1891) was a key advisor to President Grant, President Garfield, and President Chester A. Arthur. McGeorge Bundy and his brother William P. Bundy have held important CFR and important Bilderberger positions.

This in itself makes it clear that the position and power of these two men is extensive. McGeorge Bundy sat on MJ-12, which is the council of wise men that rules the United States. (See Be Wise As Serpents chptr. 2.13 for an explanation about what MJ-12 is and documentation). United States has been the most powerful nation overall on the earth, so without a doubt McGeorge has had both great public-known and great secret power. The three most prominent Bundys to write about are Harvey Hollister Bundy, Sr., William P. Bundy, and McGeorge Bundy. We will now take a look at these three along with Eric Bundy, who was given a key position in a sinister plot to steal all wealth and power of Howard Hughes. and Harry W. Bundy, who was a chief adept of one branch of the Illuminati.

The Incredible Bundy Brothers

Picture from New York Times obituary October 7th 2000  from the original of April 18th 1968

The picture above, taken at the pinnacle of the sixties peak of American power, influence and prestige, shows William Bundy, seated at the high table of power.

Bundy is perhaps one of the few names of that generation of second rank power players that might still be remembered today.  Not that I am suggesting that second rank here is second rate by any means.  Bundy, and others then like Acheson et al, wielded power on levels undreamed of by similar second tier members of foreign countries, greater powers even than many premiers of other countries.

William certainly looks comfortable in the photograph, quite at home.  Which is exactly where he and generations of his family had felt themselves to be, at home seated at the political high tables of Washington.  William and his brother McGeorge’s family had been there since the beginnings of the republic.

...

We start with the Bundys themselves……Solomon Bundy was a Republican United States Representative from New York,  and his grandson Harvey Holister Bundy snr., was Assistant Secretary of State working for his old pal Henry Stimson.

William Putnam Bundy was the elder of his sons.  He worked for the CIA and was Foreign Advisor to both John F Kennedy and Lyndon B Johnson.  Later in life he was the Honorary American Secretary to the Bilderberg Group.  William married Mary Acheson the daughter of Dean Acheson Secretary of State.  His brother-in-law David Acheson was a partner in Covinton’s a legal firm and President of the US Atlantic Council.  David’s daughter Eleanor Acheson went to school with Hillary Clinton and has been Assistant Attorney General and Director of the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force.

McGeorge Bundy, is best remembered  as United States Security Advisor to John F Kennedy and Lyndon B Johnson.  A brotherly double act to rival the Dulleses.

The Lawrences and others on McGeorge’s mother Katherine Lawrence Putnam’s side, families on the “Social Register” represent that cat’s cradle of interconnected privilege which is given the shorthand of “Boston Brahmins”.  I have largely ignored the poets, Presidents of Harvard and astronomers that fill out their ranks.

Thoroughly oligarchical.

[ Interesting is Walt Whitman Rostow who is in the LBJ photo above - Who was he? OSS-commie ]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Whitman_Rostow
Walt Whitman Rostow (also known as Walt Rostow or W.W. Rostow) (October 7, 1916 – February 13, 2003) was a United States economist and political theorist who served as Special Assistant for National Security Affairs to U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966–69.

Prominent for his role in the shaping of US foreign policy in Southeast Asia during the 1960s, he was a staunch anti-communist, noted for a belief in the efficacy of capitalism and free enterprise, strongly supporting US involvement in the Vietnam War. Rostow is known for his book The Stages of Economic Growth: A Non-Communist Manifesto (1960), which was used in several fields of social science.

His older brother Eugene Rostow also held a number of high government foreign policy posts.
...

Rostow was born in New York City to a Russian Jewish immigrant family. His parents Victor and Lillian Rostow, were active socialists, and named Walt after Walt Whitman. His brother Eugene, named for Eugene V. Debs, became a legal scholar, and his brother Ralph, after Ralph Waldo Emerson, a department store manager.

Rostow entered Yale University at age 15 on a full scholarship, graduated at 19, and completed his Ph.D. there in 1940. He also won a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Balliol College, Oxford, where he completed a B.Litt. degree. In 1936 during the Edward VIII abdication crisis, he assisted broadcaster Alistair Cooke, who reported on the events for the NBC radio network. After completing his education he started teaching economics at Columbia University.
...
During World War II Rostow served in the Office of Strategic Services under William Joseph Donovan. Among other tasks, he participated in selecting targets for U.S. bombardment. Nicholas Katzenbach would later joke, "I finally understand the difference between Walt and me [...] I was the navigator who was shot down and spent two years in a German prison camp, and Walt was the guy picking my targets."

In 1945 immediately after the war, Rostow became assistant chief of the German-Austrian Economic Division in the United States Department of State in Washington, D.C.. From 1946 to 1947 he returned to Oxford as the Harmsworth Professor of American History. In 1947 he became the assistant to the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Europe, and was involved in the development of the Marshall Plan.
...
1954 he advised President Dwight Eisenhower on economic and foreign policy, and in 1958 he became a speechwriter for him. In August 1954 Rostow and fellow CIA-connected MIT economics professor Max F. Millikan convinced Eisenhower to massively increase U.S. foreign aid for development as part of a policy of spreading American-style capitalist economic growth in Asia and elsewhere, backed by the military.[1][2]
...
The Stages of Economic Growth

In 1960 Rostow published The Stages of Economic Growth: A Non-Communist Manifesto, which proposed the Rostovian take-off model of economic growth, one of the major historical models of economic growth, which argues that economic modernization occurs in five basic stages of varying length: traditional society, preconditions for take-off, take-off, drive to maturity, and high mass consumption. This became one of the important concepts in the theory of modernization in social evolutionism. Rostow's thesis was criticized at the time and subsequently as universalizing a model of Western development that could not be replicated in places like Latin America or sub-Saharan Africa.

The book impressed presidential candidate John F. Kennedy, who appointed Rostow as one of his political advisers, and gave advice. When Kennedy became president in 1961, he appointed Rostow as deputy to his national security assistant McGeorge Bundy. Later that year Rostow became chairman of the U.S. State Department's policy planning council. After Kennedy's assassination, his successor Lyndon B. Johnson promoted Rostow to Bundy's job after he wrote Johnson's first state of the union speech. As national security adviser Rostow was responsible for developing the government's policy in Vietnam, and was convinced that the war could be won, becoming Johnson's main war hawk and playing an important role in bringing Johnson's presidency to an end.

On November 29, 1963, President Lyndon Baines Johnson appointed Allen Dulles as one of seven commissioners of the Warren Commission to investigate the assassination of the U.S. President John F. Kennedy. The appointment was later criticized by some historians, who have noted that Kennedy had fired him, and he was therefore unlikely to be impartial in passing the judgments charged to the Warren Commission

CIA chief told RFK about two shooters in Dallas

Why did Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy believe that his brother President John F. Kennedy was the victim of a conspiracy, as his son recently said?

Did RFK have any evidence for his belief, asked readers of the widespread coverage of RFK Jr.’s comments?

It turns out RFK had it on good authority that two people were involved.

Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and CIA Director John McCone (photo credit: CIA)
....

RFK’s conviction was based on conversations with the Director of Central Intelligence, John McCone, who had been briefed by analysts at the CIA’s National Photographic Interpretation Center (NPIC) after they reviewed a home movie of JFK being struck by gunfire.

This little-known story comes from two credible sources: Dino Brugioni, retired chief of the CIA’s photographic analysis offices, and historian Arthur Schlesinger.
...

“I asked him [RFK], perhaps tactlessly, about Oswald. He said that there could be no serious doubt that he was guilty, but there was still argument whether he did it by himself or as part of a larger plot, whether organized by Castro or by gangsters. He said that the FBI thought he had done it by himself, but that McCone thought there were two people involved in the shooting.”

Arthur Schlesinger writing about a conversation with Robert Kennedy on Dec. 5, 1963, quoted in Schlesinger’s Journals: 1952-2000, p. 214.

...
McCone had already spoken once with RFK about the assassination. The Attorney General had called McCone to come talk to him at his home in McLean, Virginia, on the afternoon of November 22 to ask him about his brother’s murder. McCone was surprised when RFK asked him if the CIA was involved.

Because McCone was not a career CIA man, RFK trusted him more than anybody else at the agency and pressed him for more information.

...

John McCone was not just speculating. His thinking came from a highly credible source:  the CIA’s leading photo analyst and his analysis of the NPIC blowups of frames of the Zapruder film, as well as Secret Service reports.

In short, RFK’s belief in that more than one person was involved in the assassination of JFK was based on the best information available to the U.S. government at the time.

Editor’s Note:

Q. What does this story have to do with the theory that the Zapruder film was altered?

A. It is a separate but related. Doug Horne believes the Zapruder film was altered by someone after Brugioni’s team analyzed it. Before you scoff, you should know Brugioni lends credence to this theory. He says the film he viewed at NPIC on the night of November 23 was different from the famous Zapruder film that is available to today. In any case, Brugioni had no doubt he saw a camera original copy and used its imagery to brief McCone. Horne believes that Brugioni is correct.

https://www.maryferrell.org/wiki/index.php/Gilberto_Alvarado_Allegation
Gilberto Alvarado Allegation

On 25 November 1963, three days after Kennedy's assassination, a man named Gilberto Alvarado Ugarte contacted the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City. The story he told was that he had been in the Cuban Consulate earlier, in September, and witnessed Oswald take money from a red-haired Negro to kill JFK. He provided additional details, including a description of Oswald which included glasses. Alvarado added that he had tried to tell U.S. officials of his observations earlier, but had been rebuffed.

After initial reports from CIA questioners that Alvarado was a "young, quiet, very serious person, who speaks with conviction," his story began to unravel. Rather than being a Nicaraguan Communist, it turned out that he was a penetration agent working on behalf of the Nicaraguan secret service. Handed over to the Mexican authorities for questioning, Alvarado retracted his story, saying that he had invented it in order to ingratiate himself with the Americans.

After being released, Alvarado retracted his retraction, saying the Mexican authorities had threatened him if he stuck to his story. The CIA then sent a polygraph operator to Mexico to give a lie-detector test to Alvarado, which he subsequently failed. Faced with evidence he was lying, Alvarado again retracted his story.

Baker frequently mixed politics with personal business. He was one of the initiators and board-members of the Quorum Club located in the Carroll Arms Hotel adjacent to a Senate office building. The society was alleged to have been a place for lawmakers and other influential men to meet for food, drink, and ladies. Baker and one of his colleagues, lobbyist Bill Thompson, are said to have arranged for Quorum Club hostess Ellen Rometsch to meet John F. Kennedy. Rometsch was of German origin. As a youth, she had been a Communist party member in East Germany before fleeing with her parents and then coming to the United States

Rometsch was sent to America by the Communist leaders in East Berlin who hoped that she would befriend powerful politicians and report back. She went to West Germany and married air force Rolf Rometsch who then moved with her to the United States.

She began working as a hostess at the Quorum Club, a salon for male politicians that was organized by Baker. As part of her role there, she arranged prostitutes and went on dates with some of the men herself- which clearly led to influential connections.

Her alleged dalliances did not stop at the White House, as she also had relations with then-Congressman ‘Jerry’ Ford from Michigan, who went on to become president after Nixon resigned.

Ford’s relationship with Ms Rometsch allegedly took place during his time on the Warren Commission where he was tasked with investigating President Kennedy’s assassination. The affair was used against him by FBI director J. Edgar Hoover who was frustrated that the Warren Commission was not sharing their findings,  ‘So, (Hoover) had this tape where Jerry Ford was having oral sex with Ellen Rometsch. You know, his wife had a serious drug problem back then… Hoover blackmailed… Ford to tell him what they were doing,’ Baker said.

How Lyndon Johnson and Robert Kennedy Hated Each Other (1997)
Published on Sep 29, 2014

The Robert F. Kennedy presidential campaign began on March 16, 1968. Robert Francis Kennedy, a U.S. Senator from New York who won a Senate seat in 1964, faced what was widely considered an unrealistic race against an incumbent, President Lyndon B. Johnson. After Johnson's announcement on March 31 that he would not seek re-election, Kennedy still faced Johnson’s leading challenger, Eugene McCarthy, a U.S. Senator from Minnesota, and Vice President Hubert Humphrey, who entered the race following Johnson’s withdrawal, for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. Kennedy and McCarthy remained the main challengers to Humphrey and the policies of the Johnson administration. Throughout the spring and summer, Kennedy campaigned in presidential primary elections, especially those in Indiana, Nebraska, Oregon, South Dakota, California, and Washington, D.C. He had made progress in achieving Democratic support for the nomination until his assassination on June 5, 1968, in Los Angeles, California.

Kennedy was a late entry in the race for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in 1968. By late 1967 Kennedy had not made a decision, even under pressure from his political advisors who feared time to announce a candidacy was running out.[1] Kennedy and his advisors knew it would not be easy to beat the incumbent president Lyndon Johnson.[2] However, Kennedy hadn’t ruled out entering the race. Following U.S. Senator Eugene McCarthy’s announcement on November 30, 1967, of his intention to run against Johnson for the Democratic nomination, Kennedy remarked to U.S. Senator George McGovern of South Dakota, “I’m worried about you and other people making early commitment to him because it may be hard for all of us later on.”[3] At a breakfast with reporters at the National Press Club on January 30, 1968, Kennedy still indicated that he had no plans to run, but a few weeks later he had changed his mind about entering the race.[4]

After the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, in early February 1968, Kennedy received a letter from writer Pete Hamill (later acclaimed author of the novel Snow in August). Hamill wrote an anguished letter to Kennedy noting that poor people in the Watts area of Los Angeles hung pictures of his brother, President John F. Kennedy, in their homes and that Robert Kennedy had the "obligation of staying true to whatever it was that put those pictures on those walls."[5] Other factors led Kennedy into the presidential race as well. On February 29, 1968, the Kerner Commission’s report on racial unrest in American cities during the previous summer blamed “white racism” for the violence, but its findings were largely dismissed by the Johnson administration.[5] Concerned about the president’s policies and actions, Kennedy remarked to his advisor, historian Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr., “How can we possibly survive five more years of Lyndon Johnson?”[2] To complicate his decision, Kennedy’s friends, political advisors, and family members disagreed on whether he should run. While his wife Ethel supported the idea, Kennedy’s brother, Ted, initially opposed, but offered his support when the decision was finally made to enter the race.[2][6]

By late February or early March, 1968, Kennedy had made the decision to enter the race for president.[3] On March 10, Kennedy traveled to California, to meet with civil rights activist César Chávez, who was ending a 25-day hunger strike.[7] En route to California, Kennedy told his aide, Peter Edelman, that he had decided to run, “now I have to figure out how to get McCarthy out of it.”[3] The weekend before the New Hampshire primary, Kennedy announced to several aides that he would run if he could persuade little-known Senator Eugene McCarthy of Minnesota to withdraw from the presidential race.[8] Kennedy agreed to McCarthy’s request to delay an announcement of his intentions until after the New Hampshire primary.[3] On March 12, after Johnson won an astonishingly narrow victory in the New Hampshire primary against McCarthy, who polled 42 percent of the vote, Kennedy knew it would be unlikely that the Minnesota senator would agree to withdraw and moved forward with his plans.

John Alexander McCone (January 4, 1902 – February 14, 1991) was an American businessman and politician who served as Director of Central Intelligence during the height of the Cold War

Atomic Energy Commission

In 1958, he became chairman of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. According to journalist Seymour Hersh, in December 1960, while still Atomic Energy Commission chairman, McCone revealed CIA information about Israel's Dimona nuclear weapons plant to the New York Times. Hersh writes that President John F. Kennedy was "fixated" on the Israeli nuclear weapons program and appointed McCone CIA director in part because of his willingness to deal with this and other nuclear weapons issues - and despite the fact that McCone was a Republican.[4]

After the disaster of the Bay of Pigs Invasion, president John F. Kennedy [5] forced the resignation of the CIA director Allen Dulles and some of his staff. McCone replaced Dulles on November 29, 1961.

While McCone was DCI, the CIA was involved in many covert plots, including ones involving Laos (with the Hmong), Ecuador,[citation needed] Brazil,[citation needed] and Cuba. He apparently disapproved of Operation Mongoose, the plot to assassinate Fidel Castro.[citation needed] He would later tell DCI Stansfield Turner that the CIA actions in Chile were the work of Richard Helms, who didn't tell McCone what he was doing.[citation needed] However he was involved in the 1964 Brazilian coup d'état;[citation needed] he was friends with ITT president Harold Geneen whose company stood to lose its Brazilian subsidiary if president João Goulart nationalized it. McCone would later work for ITT.[2]

McCone represented the CIA's opposition to U.S. support of a coup in South Vietnam against President Ngo Dinh Diem, but such objections were overruled by November 1963, when the State Department managed to convince Kennedy to allow the coup to proceed.

McCone resigned from his position of DCI in April 1965, believing himself to be unappreciated by President Lyndon B. Johnson, who he complained, would not read his reports, including on the need for full-fledged inspections of Israeli nuclear facilities.[9] Upon his resignation, McCone submitted a final policy memorandum to Johnson arguing that Johnson's expansion of the war in Vietnam would arouse national and world discontent before it brought down the North Vietnamese regime

Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole ; He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee. - Job 5
