Israel has conducted airstrike in Syria
« on: May 04, 2013, 12:57:41 am »
(Reuters) - Israel has conducted an airstrike in Syria, apparently targeting a building, a U.S. official said on Friday.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, declined to elaborate. CNN quoted two unnamed U.S. officials as saying Israel most likely conducted the strike "in the Thursday-Friday time frame" and that Israel's warplanes did not enter Syrian airspace.

CNN said the officials did not believe Israel had targeted a chemical weapons facility. CBS News cited U.S. sources as saying Israel targeted a warehouse.

There was no official confirmation. Syrian U.N. Ambassador Bashar Ja'afari told Reuters, "I'm not aware of any attack right now."

A White House spokeswoman referred questions on the CNN report to the Israeli government. The Pentagon declined comment.

In Jerusalem, an Israeli military spokeswoman said, "We do not comment on reports of this kind."

A spokesman for the Israeli Embassy in Washington said, "We cannot comment on these reports, but what we can say is that Israel is determined to prevent the transfer of chemical weapons or other game-changing weaponry by the Syrian regime to terrorists, especially to Hezbollah in Lebanon." Hezbollah fought a 34-day war with Israel in 2006.

The CNN report said that during the time frame of the attack, the United States had collected information showing Israeli warplanes overflying Lebanon.

In January this year, Israel bombed a convoy in Syria, apparently hitting weapons destined for Hezbollah, according to diplomats, Syrian rebels and security sources in the region.

They are all in bed with the New World Order. They want the Book of Revelation to come to pass. That Book is a warning and we can change it before it happens if we only understand that we CAN change the outcome. It is the warning of what could happen if we do not try to change it.

Good question !

Israelis are divided on the subject, its one of the big media lies....

They don't tell us that many refuse to serve in the occupied territories. It is accepted by the army, they will not coerce anyone to serve in occupied Palestinian territories. The religious jews refuse to serve in the army all together, and that also has to accepted.. Because this reflects Israeli society.

Shit, 20% of Israelis are ARABS. And even they are divided into Bedouni, Copts, Druze and Maronites....

Take a look at Israeli politics, that is another mess - its fractured into many many different parties, all with different ideas.

Funny how the media portraits a untied Zionist govt.

Your right, describing the leadership as parasitic, and quiet right to wonder what the actual people who live and work in Israel think of it all.

Absolutely right, Eva. There is a wide variety of political opinions in israel amongst Jews and non-Jews alike. Just reading the local papers can show that. Far more than our press would lead one to believe, anyway.

Explosions shake Syrian capital, Damascus
4 May 2013 Last updated at 20:12 ET
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-22417482#TWEET744496

Large explosions are being reported in the Mount Qassioun area of the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Syrian state TV says a military research centre has been attacked.

Mount Qassioun overlooks Damascus and is the site of military installations that have been used to shell rebel-controlled areas.

Syrian forces and rebels have been fighting around Damascus for months but with neither side gaining the upper hand.

More than 70,000 people have been killed since the conflict erupted in March 2011.

(Reuters) - Heavy explosions shook Damascus early on Sunday and Syrian state television said Israeli rockets had struck a military research center on the outskirts of the capital.

The research center in Jamraya was the target of an earlier Israeli strike in January. Video footage uploaded onto the Internet by activists showed a huge ball of fire rising into the night sky.

Israeli rockets strike Damascus military site
May 05, 2013 00:02
http://rt.com/news/damascus-syria-explosions-sunday-831/

Strong blasts hit the outskirts of the Syrian capital early on Sunday, state TV reports, saying that Israeli rockets have targeted a military research center.

Massive explosions have been heard near Mount Qasioun in Damascus. The area hosts the Jamraya military research center, which came under Israeli attack earlier in January and marked the first incursion by Israel into Syrian airspace in six years.

During the attack, one Israeli jet was reportedly shot down by Syria's Air Force, according to Hezbollah's Manar TV channel, citing security sources in Damascus.

"The new Israeli attack is an attempt to raise the morale of the terrorist groups which have been reeling from strikes by our noble army," Syrian television said.

There has been no immediate comment from Israel. "We don't respond to this kind of report," an Israeli military spokeswoman told Reuters.

Video footage uploaded onto the Internet showed a massive ball of fire rising into the sky. RT could not immediately verify the authenticity of the video.

The Israeli Air Force conducted an airstrike on Syrian territory on Friday, reportedly targeting a shipment of advanced missiles.

The conflict in Syria has entered its third year. According to UN estimates, at least 70,000 people have been killed since the uprising against President Bashar Assad began in March 2011.

As many Syrians are themselves celebrating Orthodox Easter,...

‘Holy Fire’ ceremony in Jerusalem ushers in Orthodox Easter
04/05 18:05 CET
http://www.euronews.com/2013/05/04/holy-fire-ceremony-in-jerusalem-ushers-in-orthodox-easter/

Tens of thousands of pilgrims have visited the Old City of Jerusalem impatient to observe what the faithful see as the miracle of the ‘Holy Fire’ ceremony.

The event takes place on the eve of the Orthodox Church’s Easter when a lamp placed in the tomb of Jesus in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is mysteriously lit.

Immediately candles take up the flame and the ‘Holy Fire’ is rapidly passed among worshipers.

Traditionally, an olive lamp is also lit and transferred as soon as possible to the West Bank town of Bethlehem. The flame is then taken to other Christian cities and villages and flown out to Orthodox communities throughout the world.

At the heart of the ceremony is the belief that the ‘Holy Flame’ is lit through divine intervention in the form of a sun beam shining through the ceiling into the sacred Jerusalem Church.

Israel & all our lil  overlords. Our regime past and present has pleged to defend them no matter what.
The last president to confront them was JFK when he questioned the PM about their nuclear capacity.
They play the game in regards to negotiations (Paletinains etc)  its all staged, smoke and mirrors.
Lyndon stepped up to the throne after JFK' murder.
He went along with the SS Liberty attack as a simple error, & thers more ,,etc. etc.
They play the game in regards to negotiations (Palestinains etc)  its all staged, smoke and mirrors.(By way of deception)
When ya put all this shiite together they are attached at the hip, if Syria were to attack or in any way matter or form /Israel.
Assad and his people are keenly aware the USA would bomb them into dust.
The elites want perpetual war, isn't that the bottom line. They're Hypocrits, they back the rebs as freedom fighters and then go forward with an opposite spin, they can't let the same freaks we fund to get their hands on the chemical weapons, another WMD scenario.

We are likely the final act of the globalists human sacrifice - carnivale of eugenics.

It seems like the Syrian Rebels/al Qaeda/al Nusra had been beaten so badly in the past few engaugements that the globalists were in danger of loosing their beach head in Syria.  All of Kerry's plans for arming the terrorists more openly would be for naught.

There was a giant slaughter between the Israeli strikes yesterday and today, and sources were all over the place about the who's and the how many's, but most pointed toward the Syrian Army hitting a rebel held makeshift-civilian city stronghold.  The BBCs and Al Jazeera's were pushing a massacre story with Assad's forces slicing and dicing civilians in the street, behavior typical of the FSA in many instances and not once to my memory from the Syrian Army during this conflict.

But that was supposed to be a covert action. The truth about the Liberty was revealed long after the event when there would be less likely outrage over it. This event is overt - allowed to be revealed as it's happening. If unprovoked, then this marks a major change in Israeli Defense Force doctrine. What are they defending?

Mossad is a different beast. They're supposed to be super top secret underhanded deceivers. At least they admit to that.

Syrian rebels [/al Qaeda/Al Nusra] being treated in Israeli hospital
February 17, 2013
http://www.jta.org/news/article/2013/02/17/3119781/syrian-rebels-being-treated-in-israeli-hospital

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Seven wounded Syrians are being treated in an Israeli hospital after being brought there by Israeli soldiers.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called their treatment "exceptional, isolated cases."

The men were wounded Saturday near Israel's security fence with Syria in the Golan Heights during clashes between the Syrian army and rebel forces in Syria's 2-year-old civil war. Israeli soldiers brought the Syrians to Ziv Hospital in Safed, Haaretz reported, which said they likely are rebels.

One of the Syrians reportedly was severely wounded and the rest were injured from bullets and shrapnel. The men are being isolated from other patients and are expected to remain in the hospital for one week.

During the regular weekly Cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said the fighting in Syria is approaching the Israeli border.

"We will continue to guard our border and prevent passage and entry to Israel, except for exceptional, isolated cases, every one will be considered on its merits," he said.

Druze communities on the Golan Heights reportedly have asked the army to allow the men to stay in Israel or be sent to a third country that will accept them as refugees, the Israeli daily Maariv reported.

Assad "to declare war" on Israel following fresh airstrikes
Reports suggest that Syria's embattled dictator, Bashar al-Assad, is shortly set to declare war on Israel after interventions against the regime

The Commentator on 5 May 2013 01:37
http://www.thecommentator.com/article/3447/assad_to_declare_war_on_israel_following_fresh_airstrikes

Following evidence of chemical warfare and an increasinly reticent US position, Israel has in recent days taken widely reported steps to neutralise threats emanating from within civil war-torn Syria.

While strikes from Lebanese airspace this weekend are not thought to have been on chemical weapons caches, the recent Israeli intelligence regarding the use of such weaponry is thought to have spurred on a round of strikes, including the latest just hours ago.

The Syrian state news agency SANA, citing initial reports, said early Sunday that Israeli missiles struck a military research center near the capital Damascus.

Syrian state television has reported that a major strike on an ammunition depot in Qassiyoun mountains shook Damascus, while Hezbollah's Al-Manar station claimed the explosion may have been a downed Israeli jet.

Rumours are surfacing online that following the latest volley of attacks on the Syrian regime, President Bashar al-Assad will soon officially declare war on Israel, with speculators pointing to 5am local time for official confirmation. This information continues to persist despite the technical state of war that currently exists between the two states.

Many however, have been quick to dismiss these reports as strictly rumour, with various commentators claiming that such a move would be sure to end Assad's reign of terror in Syria "within a week".

The news of an Israeli intervention in Syria has caught the Obama administration on the back foot, with the US president refusing to comment at length about the strike. Obama said, "The Israelis, justifiably, have to guard against the transfer of advanced weaponry to terrorist organizations like Hezbollah."

The US president made no mention of supposed "red lines" being crossed, despite evidence of Syria's used of chemical weapons against rebel forces. Critics have hit out at Barack Obama in recent days for failing to put forward any coherent strategy to bring the violence in Syria to an end. The inaction, according to some, is another example of Obama's "lead from behind" strategy, the same tactic he employed during the intervention in Libya.

UPDATE 03:15am GMT: 5am local time in Syria has passed without comment from military authorities or the Assad regime. Speculation continues about the nature of the attack with some insisting that Israel's weaponry was "nuclear-like", that chemicals can be "smelt" in the air, and that the attack was co-ordinated by Israel with help from Syrian rebel forces.

Israel has the right to hit missiles, Obama says after strike
May 4, 2013

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- It is Israel's right to prevent Hezbollah from getting weapons, President Obama said, a day after Israeli jets reportedly destroyed Iranian missiles in Syria bound for the Lebanese terrorist group.

Neither the U.S. nor the Israeli governments have confirmed multiple reports quoting anonymous officials in both countries as saying that Israel was responsible for the strike early Friday on Damascus airport.
Obama, in his first remarks on the issue, in an interview Saturday with Telemundo, also would not confirm Israel's role in the strike.

He emphasized, however, Israel's right to carry out such attacks.

"What I have said in the past and I continue to believe is that the Israelis justifiably have to guard against the transfer of advanced weaponry to terrorist organizations like Hezbollah," Obama told Telemundo, in remarks picked up first by the Reuters news agency.

"We coordinate closely with the Israelis recognizing they are very close to Syria, they are very close to Lebanon," he said.

Iran has for years used Damascus as a conduit for weapons transfers to Hezbollah, and Israel has in the past bombed such convoys, most recently in January.

The fear in Israel is that Iran will accelerate such transfers as the intensifying turmoil in Syria threatens to unseat the Assad government, which is friendly both to Iran and to Hezbollah.

There were conflicting reports as to what type of surface-to-surface missiles Israel hit.

The New York Times quoted Israeli officials as saying they were Scuds and U.S. officials as saying they were Fateh 110s, which are more accurate.

Both missiles are long range and could reach Tel Aviv from Lebanon.

The Israeli air force has so-called "standoff" bombs that coast dozens of kilometres (miles) across ground to their targets once fired. That could, in theory, allow Israel to attack Syria from its own turf or from adjacent Lebanon.

In Middle East, public rejects arming Syrian rebels: poll

A Pew Center poll found that large majorities worry that an influx of arms – from Western or Arab sources – will increase violence and instability in the region.

http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Middle-East/2013/0502/In-Middle-East-public-rejects-arming-Syrian-rebels-poll

Citizens of many Middle East countries remain opposed to providing military assistance to the Syrian opposition for its fight against President Bashar al-Assad's regime, despite substantial fears that the violence will spill into their own countries,  according to a poll released this week by the Pew Research Center.

The Pew results are based on a survey of 11,771 people between March 3 and April 7 from 12 countries: Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt, Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Tunisia, Germany, France, Britain, the US, and Russia.

Ninety-five percent of Lebanese said they were concerned that violence would spread west into their country, with 68 percent of them saying they were "very concerned" and 27 percent saying they were "somewhat concerned." Eighty percent of Jordanians, who live to Syria's south, and 62 percent of Turks, who are on Syria's northern flank, expressed worry.

All three countries share substantial borders with Syria, and have taken on huge numbers of Syrian refugees: according to the United Nations refugee agency, there are more than 450,000 Syrians in Lebanon, slightly fewer than that in Jordan, and more than 320,000 in Turkey. Firing across the Syrian-Lebanese border is no longer an unusual occurrence, as The Christian Science Monitor has reported.

And in Israel, which appreciated the decades-long cold war reached between the two after fighting multiple wars, 78 percent of those polled said spreading instability was a problem.

But countries farther afield share the unease of those whose borders are now inundated with desperate Syrians. Eighty-nine percent of Tunisians and 77 percent of Egyptians told Pew that they were worried about violence destabilizing the region, already in upheaval because of revolutions throughout the Arab world.

Public opinion is unquestionably not in favor of the US and European countries arming the Syrian opposition, however, with the exception of Jordan, where a slight majority (53 percent) support doing so. Reticence is strongest in Lebanon, where arms are almost certainly flowing already across the border as both rebels and Assad-allied Hezbollah fighters move back and forth and citizens are braced for tensions to explode into open conflict.

Eighty percent of Lebanese oppose Western arming of the rebels, and even among Sunnis, who are generally sympathetic to the predominantly Sunni opposition, a solid majority of 66 percent oppose the West sending military aid. Unsurprisingly, almost all (98 percent) Lebanese Shiites oppose sending arms; the regime's base is predominantly Alawite, a Shiite sect.

The picture changes slightly when such aid is coming from other Arab countries, but only Lebanese Sunnis join Jordan in supporting the idea – 65 percent of Jordanians favor sending arms and other military supplies, while 63 percent of Lebanese Sunnis do (to show how starkly divided Lebanon is over the Syrian war, hold that up against the 97 percent of Lebanese Shiites who oppose Arab countries sending military aid).

The results should be examined with the caveat that the poll was conducted in March, before evidence surfaced that the Assad regime had used chemical weapons.

Demands from US politicians for stronger action against Assad have mounted since that revelation, and American public support has followed suit, growing from 25 percent to 45 percent – but falling short of a majority. The Russian government's stance is also out of sync with public opinion. Only 27 percent of Russians support their government's consistent backing of Assad (although 52 percent of those who don't support it have no opinion).

Should the Syrian civil war bring down Assad, he may have trouble finding a place in the region to rest his head – "he was not liked in 2012 and he is not liked today," Pew notes in the poll results. Lebanese Shiites are the only group with a favorable opinion of Assad. Even a solid majority (63 percent) of Lebanese Christians, whose co-religionists in Syria were well protected under the Assad regime and may be endangered by the rise in extremist Sunni groups among the Syrian opposition, do not support him.

Israeli warplanes strike Syrian weapons facility, US official says
Published May 04, 2013
FoxNews.com

A Syrian weapons facility was struck early Friday by Israeli warplanes, a U.S. official told Fox News.

A source told Fox News that it is not clear whether the warplanes crossed into Syrian airspace or whether the missiles were fired from across the border.

The strike was confirmed by Israeli officials who said the country's air force targeted a shipment of "game changing" weapons bound for the Lebanese militant Hezbollah group.

One official told The Associated Press the target was a shipment of advanced, long-range ground-to-ground missiles but was not more specific.

It was the second Israeli strike this year against Syria and the latest salvo in its long-running effort to disrupt Hezbollah's quest to build an arsenal capable of defending against Israel's air force and spreading destruction inside the Jewish state.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly warned in recent weeks that Israel would be prepared to take military action if chemical weapons or other arms were to reach Hezbollah.

When Israeli planes fired on a weapons convoy inside Syria in January, they remained outside Syrian airspace. The convoy was believed to be carrying Russian SA-17 anti-aircraft missiles.

"Israel is determined to prevent the transfer of chemical weapons or other game-changing weaponry by the Syrian regime to terrorists, specially to Hizbullah in Lebanon," an official from the Israeli Embassy in Washington told Fox News.

In 2007, Israeli jets bombed a suspected nuclear reactor site along the Euphrates River in northeastern Syria, an attack that embarrassed and jolted the Assad regime and led to a buildup of the Syrian air defense system. Russia provided the hardware for the defense systems upgrade and continues to be a reliable supplier of military equipment to the Assad regime.

While the U.S. has been providing nonlethal aide to opposition forces in Syria, even stepping up that form of support in recent days, the Obama administration has resisted calls from some American lawmakers to arm the rebels or to work to establish a no-fly zone to aid the insurgency.

On Thursday, however, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said the administration is rethinking its opposition to providing arms to the rebels. He said it was one of several options as the U.S. consults with allies about steps to be taken to drive Assad from power. Officials in the administration who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss strategy said earlier this week that arming the opposition forces was seen as more likely than any other military option.

Obama followed Hagel's comments by saying options will continue to be evaluated, though he did not cite providing arms specifically. Concerns that U.S. weapons could end up in the hands of al-Qaida-linked groups helping the Syrian opposition or other extremists, including Hezbollah, have stood in the way of that change in strategy.

"We want to make sure that we look before we leap and that what we're doing is actually helpful to the situation as opposed to making it more deadly or more complex," Obama said Thursday at a news conference in Mexico.

Pentagon spokesman George Little declined to comment on the report.

Israeli Bombs Over Syria, Part Two
Posted by Daniel McAdams on May 4, 2013 08:51 PM

For the second day in a row, the Israeli government is reported to have bombed Syria -- this time near Damascus -- according to reporting by the Washington Post.

As the Washington Post -- itself deeply in the ideological pockets of the left-neocons -- concludes, this is Israel's response to American skepticism over its lurid tales, without evidence, of chemical weapons use by the Syrian government:

"The attack Friday coincided with mounting pressure on the Obama administration to formulate a response to the growing risk of weapons proliferation in the Syrian war, notably the possibility that chemical weapons are being used in the conflict and could fall into the hands of extremists."

Translation: "We told you a red-line violating story and you did not believe us. Time for Plan B. We're going in."
