Nearly half in top 5 U.S. cities don?t speak English at home, record 67 million
by Paul Bedard
 | September 19, 2018 11:37 AM

Nearly half of the residents in the nation?s five biggest cities do not speak English at home, choosing instead their native language, according to the latest Census Bureau data that details the impact of a decade of soft immigration policies.

Overall, a record 67 million do not speak English at home, said the bureau. That is nearly double in 27 years.

In its just-released analysis of the Census data, the Center for Immigration Studies said,
?As a share of the population, 21.8 percent of U.S. residents speak a foreign language at home ? roughly double the 11 percent in 1980.?

An American visitor who stayed at a hotel in Toronto where hundreds of ?refugees? are being housed claims that animal services had to be called because migrants were slaughtering goats in the public bathrooms.

The claim appears in a Toronto Sun article entitled ?Irregular? migrants continue to flock into Toronto.

With Toronto?s migrant shelters full and 18-20 mostly Nigerian ?refugees? arriving in the city every day, the government is having to pay for hotels to accommodate the newcomers, despite having already spent $64.5 million on housing migrants over the last 11 months alone.

A total of ?1,719 irregular (illegal) migrants/refugees/asylum seekers? are being housed in Toronto hotels, ?including 577 housed at the Radisson Toronto East hotel in 146 rooms.?

Texas desert tent city for immigrant children balloons in size

October 12, 2018

TORNILLO, Texas (Reuters) - A tent city in the west Texas desert set up to hold immigrant children has expanded its capacity by nearly 10 times to 3,800 beds since it opened in June, officials said on Friday.

The facility in the border city of Tornillo sprang up with 400 beds when the Trump administration put into place its "zero tolerance" policy that called for separating parents from children after families crossed the border from Mexico illegally.

While officials say Tornillo no longer holds minors separated under "zero tolerance," after the administration rolled back that policy following a public outcry and under pressure from U.S. courts, the facility has grown. It now includes children who crossed the U.S. border on their own.

Tornillo houses 1,465 children between the ages of 13 and 17, of whom nearly 900 were detained coming from Guatemala, officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Health and Human Services said during a camp tour.

"No children that were a part of the family separations are at the Tornillo facility," the Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement.

More than 1300 Honduran men, women, and children began a trek that is expected to take them through Central America and Mexico. Some of the migrants plan to seek asylum in Mexico while others plan to head to the U.S. border. The march appears to be organized through social media.

The march, dubbed ?March of the Migrants,? began this weekend in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, where more than 1300 men, women, and children began a trek that will take them from Honduras to Guatemala and into Mexico where some will seek refugee status. Others are expected to continue north to the U.S border, Reuters reported.

Soon after the march began, social media groups promoting the well being of Honduras and Central America posted videos and photographs condemning the government and the lack of opportunities in the country.

Lindsey Graham to Introduce Bill Ending Birthright Citizenship ?Magnet? for Illegal Immigration
30 Oct 2018

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) announced on Tuesday that he plans to introduce legislation ending birthright citizenship for children born to illegal immigrants on American soil, citing it as a ?magnet for illegal immigration.?

President Donald J. Trump announced on Tuesday that he plans to draft an executive order to end birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants born in America.

Trump told Axios? Jonathan Swan:

But now they?re saying I can do it with just an executive order. Now, how ridiculous?we are the only country in the world where a person comes in, has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States for 85 years with all of those benefits? It?s ridiculous. It?s ridiculous?and it has to end.

Sen. Graham cheered Trump?s move against birthright citizenship, citing it as a significant ?magnet? for illegal immigration.

?Finally, a president willing to take on this absurd policy of birthright citizenship,? Graham said in a statement. ?I?ve always supported comprehensive immigration reform ? and at the same time ? the elimination of birthright citizenship.?

By Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Wednesday, October 31, 2018

The U.S. tied its all-time record for new immigration ? both legal and illegal ? in 2016, with 1.75 million arrivals, according to a new study Wednesday.

The Center for Immigration Studies, which is releasing the report, says the increase is part of a post-Great Recession rebound that?s quickly changing the demographics of the U.S.

The surge was driven chiefly by Latin America, which saw its numbers double from about 335,000 in 2011 to 668,000 in 2016, pushing it past Asia as the top-sending region.

?The dramatic increase in new immigrants settling in the United States in recent years is primarily driven by the nation?s generous legal immigration system, both long-term temporary visa holders (e.g. guest workers and foreign students) and new permanent residents (green cards),? wrote Steven A. Camarota, research director at the center.

Immigration Bill, 1963: February-December

https://cis.org/Report/HartCeller-Immigration-Act-1965
The Hart-Celler Immigration Act of 1965
Political figures and historic circumstances produced dramatic, unintended consequences

By Jerry Kammer on September 30, 2015

The 1965 legislation was named the Hart-Celler Act for its principal sponsors in the Senate and House of Representatives. It abolished the quota system, which critics condemned as a racist contradiction of fundamental American values. By liberalizing the rules for immigration, especially by prioritizing family reunification, it also stimulated rapid growth of immigration numbers. Once immigrants had naturalized, they were able to sponsor relatives in their native lands in an ever-lengthening migratory process called chain migration. That unintended consequence is Hart-Celler's enduring legacy.

"The 1965 immigration law quickly transformed the ethnic portrait of the United States,"2 scholars have noted. At first the new immigration came largely from southern Europe, especially Italy. But that stream played out in about a decade. Meanwhile, immigration from Eastern Europe was limited by repressive communist governments.

By 1980, most immigrants were coming from Latin America, Asia, and Africa ? in numbers far greater than the annual average of 300,000 that had prevailed during the 1960s. Despite assurances by Hart-Celler advocates that the bill would add little to the immigrant stream, more than seven million newcomers entered the country legally during the 1980s. That trend has continued. Meanwhile, illegal immigration also began a decades-long surge.

Emanuel Celler, Former Brooklyn Congressman, Dies at 92
By MAURICE CARROLL JAN. 16, 1981

manuel Celler, who served a half-century in the House of Representatives, died yesterday at his home in Brooklyn. He was 92 years old.

Mr. Celler, one of the most influential New Yorkers who ever served in the House, was defeated in the 1972 Democratic primary in a stunning upset by a political unknown, Elizabeth Holtzman. Only days before his defeat, Mr. Celler had described his opponent as ''irritating as a hangnail, which nail I am going to cut off.''

When Mr. Celler, 34 years old, brash and bouncy, was first elected to the House, Warren G. Harding was President. The year was 1922. Led on Civil Rights Bills

Seven Presidents and 42 years later, Mr. Celler, still bouncy but his brashness mellowed by the years, became the dean of the House. The distinction, he said, had ''crept up on me unawares.''

Seniority brings power in Congress, and as Mr. Celler's service lengthened, his political sway grew. He became chairman of the Judiciary Committee in 1949 and, except for the years when Republicans controlled the House, held the post from then on.

His committee handled civil-rights legislation in the years of the nation's major advances in that area. In 1957, he wrote and shepherded into law the first comprehensive rights legislation enacted by Congress in 82 years.

He was the author of the more comprehensive 1960 Civil Rights Act, and in February 1964, he guided to passage for the Johnson Administration a law retaining virtually all the elements of a draft that President Kennedy had submitted the year before.

''I feel like I've climbed Mount Everest,'' Mr. Celler said wearily after the 1964 bill passed, 290 to 130, and the House gave him a standing ovation. Parlor Tricks and Pungency
....
In 1922, a Democratic leader asked if Mr. Celler would like to be the party's nominee for Congress from the 10th District, an honor but hardly a prize. The district had never sent a Democrat to Congress.
...
From the start, he had been the liberal that his upbringing, and his district, dictated. He supported the major New Deal and Fair Deal programs. He was among the small band that opposed the House UnAmerican Activities Committee, he pressed antitrust legislation and he regularly scored high on the liberalism ratings compiled by the Americans for Democratic Action.

Donald Trump Threatens to Close Southern Border if Democrats Fail to Fund Border Security
28 Dec 2018

President Donald Trump threatened to close the Southern border on Friday if Democrats continued blocking funding for border security.

?We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with,? Trump wrote on Twitter.

The president commented on the ongoing funding stalemate as the partial government shutdown continued into the seventh day.

Trump added that he was willing to freeze economic activity between the Southern border and even end trade with Mexico.

?Go back to pre-NAFTA, before so many of our companies and jobs were so foolishly sent to Mexico,? he wrote. ?Either we build (finish) the Wall or we close the Border.?

The shutdown is expected to continue into January after Congressional Democrats refused to fund border security in the new government funding bill.

Trump accused Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador of ?doing nothing? to help keep their people from traveling to America despite receiving millions of dollars in aid from the United States.

?Word is that a new Caravan is forming in Honduras and they are doing nothing about it,? he wrote. ?We will be cutting off all aid to these 3 countries ? taking advantage of U.S. for years!?

Exclusive? Ann Coulter: Trump Must Declare Wall ?Compassionate Solution? to Border Crisis
7 Jan 2019

Ahead of his Oval Office address on the southern border crisis, New York Times best-selling author and populist conservative columnist Ann Coulter says President Donald Trump must make the case to the American people that the border wall is the ?compassionate solution? to stopping wage-crushing illegal immigration.

During an exclusive interview on SiriusXM Patriot?s Breitbart News Tonight, Coulter said Trump must make the humanitarian case for ending illegal immigration straight to the American people, noting that amnesty for illegal aliens must immediately be ruled out.

I would also go to all of the working class that are in America, construction workers in particular. Their salaries have not just stagnated, they have gone down in the last 20 years. These are the least among us. We are the only ones not speaking out of self-interest. [Emphasis added]

    ?

Most of the people who are advocating for open borders ? they have a vested in interest in having either the cheap labor or the Democratic voters. Their neighborhoods aren?t the ones being overwhelmed. They get the cheap maids, the cheap nannies, and then they strut around like they?re Martin Luther King. [Emphasis added]

No, you are talking in your self-interest, Chamber of Commerce, and Koch brothers, and Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer. It?s Donald Trump and our side who are actually caring about our fellow Americans ? the kids who are getting addicted to black tar heroin. [Emphasis added]

Coulter said:

    ?

The heroin problem in this country is 100 percent a problem of not having a wall on the border. And 70,000 Americans are dying every year. That?s more that died in the entire Vietnam War. That is a national emergency. [Emphasis added]

,...
Coulter said Trump must make clear that it is the open borders lobby, corporate interests, and billionaire donor-class who benefit from mass illegal immigration while working and middle-class Americans are left suffering from its consequences.

?The wall is the compassionate solution,? Coulter said. ?The people who don?t want a wall are absolutely selfish, they are in it for themselves. They are in it for the cheap labor; they are in it for the votes.?

Every year, the U.S. admits about 1.1 million mostly low-skilled legal immigrants, many of whom immediately become low-wage competition for America?s working and middle class. The latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau marks a nearly 108-year record high of immigration to the country. In 2017, the foreign-born population boomed to 13.7 percent, encompassing 44.5 million immigrants.

At a news conference Sunday, authorities said murder charges should be following soon

Authorities stressed that Martinez-Guzman?s arrest should bring relief to a community that?s been on edge since the string of killings started last week.

Connie Koontz, 56, was found dead inside her home in Gardnerville Ranchos on Jan. 10. On Jan. 13, Sophia Renken, 74, was found dead in her home about a mile away.

On Saturday, Jan. 19, Wilbur Ernesti Martinez Guzman, 19, who resides in Carson City, was arrested in connection with the murders in Douglas County and Washoe County.

According to Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam, law enforcement agencies are confident there is enough evidence to link Guzman to all four homicides.

?We feel strongly we have the man responsible for this,? said Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley, regarding the homicides in the Gardnerville area.

Guzman was not known to the Carson City Sheriff?s Office previously, according to law enforcement. Neither a motive nor a connection between the suspect and victims has been released yet.

The arrest teams consisted of Carson City Special Enforcement Team and immigration officers in addition to other agencies.

Guzman is currently in custody at the Carson City Jail.

He has been charged with multiple felony counts including possession of stolen property and burglary. In the coming days, homicide charges will likely be forthcoming.

He is being held on an Immigration hold which is non-bailable.

The Washoe County District Attorney?s Office said they will be seeking arrest warrants for the murders in the coming days as the investigation continues.
