Japan may hand out iodine near nuclear plants: IAEA

Japanese authorities have told the U.N.'s atomic watchdog they are making preparations to distribute iodine to people living near nuclear power plants affected by Friday's earthquake, the Vienna-based agency said.

Iodine can be used to help protect against thyroid cancer in the case of radioactive exposure in a nuclear accident.

After the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, thousands of cases of thyroid cancer were reported in children and adolescents who were exposed at the time of the accident. More cases are expected.

In Japan Saturday, radiation leaked from a damaged nuclear reactor after an explosion blew the roof off in the wake of the massive earthquake, but the government insisted that radiation levels were low.

Japan's Jiji news agency later said three workers suffered radiation exposure near the Fukushima nuclear plant.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the U.N. nuclear body, said Japanese authorities had informed it of the explosion and that they were "assessing the condition of the reactor core."

Japan expanded the evacuation zone around the plant, Fukushima Daiichi, and also that of the nearby Fukushima Daini nuclear power plant.

"The authorities also say they are making preparations to distribute iodine to residents in the area of both the plants," the IAEA said in a statement

Of course they should have. They will never do the right thing. They are also lying about how badly the reactor is damaged and you know they will lie about how much radiation got into the air.

Check this out:

No health hazard' as evacuation call goes out

A JAPANESE nuclear safety panel says radiation levels are 1000 times above normal in a reactor control room after a huge quake damaged a plant's cooling system.

Public broadcaster NHK, quoting nuclear safety officials, said there was “no immediate health hazard” to nearby residents from a possible minute leakage, and people were urged to evacuate the area calmly.

The elevated reading was taken in the control room of the No1 reactor of the Fukushima No1 nuclear power plant, said the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Kyodo News said that the discovery suggested radioactive steam could spread around the facility, which is located about 250km northeast of Tokyo and operated by Tokyo Electric Power.

Prime Minister Naoto Kan said early today that residents living within 10km of the plant must evacuate. He then stepped onto a helicopter to head for the area.

Reactor not damaged in Japan nuclear plant explosion

The Japanese government says an explosion Saturday blew off the roof and walls of the building containing a nuclear reactor, but did not damage the reactor itself.

The explosion at the Fukushima Dai-ichi plant had earlier triggered fears of a nuclear meltdown.

On Saturday, Japan's government spokesperson Yukio Edano said radiation levels around the plant did not rise, but actually decreased after the explosion. He added that pressure in the reactor was also decreasing.

Japan's nuclear safety agency said Saturday the incident was less serious than those at Chernobyl and Three Mile Island. According to reports from local media, three people suffered radiation exposure near the plant following Friday's earthquake.
...
Earlier there were reports that large amounts of radiation were leaking from the plant.

The facility was badly damaged in Friday's devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake. Pressure and heat have been building at the nuclear reactor since the disaster, when the earthquake and ensuing tsunami caused its cooling system to fail.

Chris Johnson, a freelance reporter in Tokyo, said the message from the Japanese government has been confusing and journalists have had trouble getting accurate information. No one is being allowed to approach the site of the blast.

...

Fukushima Dai-ichi plant is 30 kilometres from Iwaki, and about 260 kilometres north of Tokyo.

Five nuclear reactors at two power plants lost cooling ability on Friday, and a state of emergency was declared at both plants.

At one plant, radiation inside one reactor jumped to 1,000 times the normal level, but officials stressed there was no "immediate health hazard."

Both plants lost electrical power, and then suffered critical failures in their backup generators used to power cooling systems. Batteries were being used temporarily to keep the cooling systems going.

[ doesn't the following sound like a design flaw???: ]
A lack of power to the cooling systems results in a pressure buildup beyond what the nuclear reactors are designed to handle.

Philip White, of the Citizens Nuclear Information Center, said his organization for years has warned about the risk of a combined earthquake and nuclear disaster.

Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole ; He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee. - Job 5

My guess is probably not. The heavy stuff - if it makes it out - would fall nearer to Japan. The lighter stuff may make it across. I think it will be a mostly local event - AND the wind is blowing toward the Philipines not the US (I checked) for the next few days.

You guys ought to be ok.

WHAT TO DO IF A NUCLEAR DISASTER IS IMMINENT!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This guide is for families preparing for imminent terrorist or strategic nuclear attacks
with expected blast destruction followed by widespread radioactive fallout downwind.

IF ONLY A 'Dirty Bomb' Attack (Not the vastly more devastating nuclear weapon blasts with fallout discussed below.) - You can expect localized and downwind contamination from the explosion and dispersed radioactive materials. If you are near enough to see or hear any local bomb blast, assume that it includes radiological or chemical agents. You should move away from the blast area as quickly as possible. If the wind is blowing toward you from the direction of the blast, travel in a direction that is crosswise or perpendicular to the wind as you move away from the blast area. If possible cover your face with a dust mask or cloth to avoid inhaling potentially radioactive dust. Upon reaching a safe location, remove your outer clothing outside and shower as soon as possible. Refer to local news sources for additional instructions about sheltering or evacuation. The government is better prepared to direct and assist the public in 'dirty bomb' emergencies, unlike more serious nuclear weapon attacks below.

In a national crisis of imminent nuclear weapon attacks, read all the way through this guide first,

THEN TAKE EFFECTIVE PROTECTIVE ACTION, BEFORE THEY STRIKE, WITH CONFIDENCE... FAST!

#1 - STAY OR GO?

You must decide FIRST if you need to prepare where you are, or attempt evacuation. The nature of the threat, your prior preparations, and your confidence in your sources of information should direct your decision. If you know already you will be preparing to stay at your own home or, at least, the immediate local area, go now to #2 below.

If you are considering evacuation, your decision requires very high confidence that it is worth the risk. You do not want to get stuck between your current location and your hoped for destination, as there will probably be no easy getting back. If you fail to get to your destination, you may be exposed without shelter, in a dangerous situation with little effective law enforcement, perhaps among panicked hordes of refugees. Whatever supplies you have may be limited then to what you can carry on foot. IF you are in a big city or near a military target, AND you have relatives or friends in the country that you know are awaiting you, AND the roads between you and them are clear, AND the authorities are not yet restricting traffic, AND you have the means and fuel, evacuation may be a viable option for a limited time. DO NOT attempt evacuation if all of the above is not clearly known, or if the situation is deteriorating too quickly to assure the complete trip. You do not want to get stuck and/or become a refugee being herded along with panicked masses. If evacuation is truly a viable option, do not wait - GO NOW! Do so with as many of the supplies listed in #7 as possible. Better to be two days too early in arriving than two hours too late and getting snagged mid-way, potentially exposing your family to a worse fate than having stayed where you were. Because of the very real danger of getting caught in an evacuation stampede that stalls, almost all families will be better off making the best of it wherever they currently are.

#2 - WHAT YOU NEED TO DO FIRST

Because time is of the essence, you need to first delegate and assign to different adult family members specific tasks so they can all be accomplished at the same time. Your first priorities to assure your family survival are Shelter, Water, and Food/Supplies. While some are working on the water storage and shelter at home, others need to be acquiring, as much as possible, the food and supplies.

#3 - FOOD/SUPPLIES

Because much of the food and supplies listed at #7 of this guide may quickly become unavailable, you need to assign someone NOW to immediately go to the stores with that list! Get cash from the bank and ATM's first, if it can be done quickly, but try and use credit cards at the stores, if at all possible, to preserve your cash.

#4 - WATER

With one or more adults now heading to the stores with the list at #7, those remaining need to begin storing water IMMEDIATELY! Lack of clean water will devastate your family much more quickly and more severely than any lack of food. Without clean water for both drinking and continued good sanitary practices in food preparation and for bathroom excursions (which could be much less sanitary than normal), debilitating sickness could rampage through your family with little hope of prompt medical attention. That is a likely but, avoidable, disaster, ONLY IF you have enough water.

Every possible container needs to be filled with water RIGHT NOW! It will be very hard to have stored too much water. When the electricity/pumps go down or everybody in your community is doing the same thing, thus dropping the water pressure, what you've got is all you might be getting for a very long time. Empty pop bottles (1-3 liter) are ideal for water storage, also filling up the bathtub and washing machine. (Remember, later you'll have some in your hot water tank.) If you have any kiddie pools or old water beds, pull them out and fill them up, too. (Water from a water bed should be used only for bathing or cleaning, not for drinking as it may contain traces of algaecide and/or fungicides.) Anything and everything that'll hold water needs to be filled up quickly RIGHT NOW!!

One of the shopping items listed at #7 is new metal garbage cans and liner bags which you'll also use for storing water. If you can't get any more new cans, you could clean out an existing garbage can and scrub it throughout with bleach, then put in a new garbage bag liner and fill it with water. Even sturdy boxes could be used with bag liners. (Use two liners if they are very thin/flimsy.) Choose well where you fill up garbage cans with water because they won't easily be moved once full and many of them together could be too heavy for some upper floor locations. Ideally, they need to be very near where your shelter will be constructed and can actually add to its shielding properties, as you'll see below. BE ASSURED, YOU CANNOT STORE AND HAVE TOO MUCH WATER! Do not hesitate, fill up every possible container, RIGHT NOW!

#5 - SHELTER

The principles of radiation protection are simple - with many options and resources families can use to prepare or improvise a very effective shelter. You must throw off any self-defeating myths of nuclear un-survivability that may needlessly paralyze and panic, and then seal the fate of, less informed families.

Radioactive fallout is the particulate matter (dust) produced by a nuclear explosion and carried high up into the air by the mushroom cloud. It drifts on the wind and most of it settles back to earth downwind of the explosion. The heaviest, most dangerous, and most noticeable fallout, will 'fall out' first closer to ground zero. It may begin arriving minutes after an explosion. The smaller and lighter dust-like particles will typically be arriving hours later, as they drift much farther downwind, often for hundreds of miles. Once it arrives, whether visible or not, all that will fall will have done so usually in under an hour, then blow around everywhere just like dust does on the ground and roofs. However, rain can concentrate the fallout into localized 'hot spots' of much more intense radiation with no visible indication.

This radioactive fallout 'dust' is dangerous because it is emitting penetrating radiation energy (similar to x-ray's). This radiation (not the fallout dust) can go right through walls, roofs and protective clothing. Even if you manage not to inhale or ingest the dust, and keep it off your skin, hair, and clothes, and even if none gets inside your house, the radiation penetrating your home is still extremely dangerous, and can injure or kill you inside.

Radioactive fallout from a nuclear explosion, though very dangerous initially, loses its intensity quickly because it is giving off so much energy. For example, fallout emitting gamma ray radiation at a rate over 500 R/hr (fatal with one hour of exposure) shortly after an explosion, weakens to only 1/10th as strong 7 hours later. Two days later, it's only 1/100th as strong, or as deadly, as it was initially.

That is really very good news, because our families can readily survive it IF we get them into a proper shelter to safely wait it out as it becomes less dangerous with every passing hour.

What stops radiation, and thus shields your family, is simply putting mass between them and the radiation source. Like police body armor stopping bullets, mass stops (absorbs) radiation. The thicker and heavier the mass, the more radiation it stops, and the more effective it is with every inch more you add to your fallout shelter. The thickness in inches needed to cut the radiation down to only 1/10th of its initial intensity for different common materials is: Steel 3.3", concrete 11", earth 16", water 24", wood 38". The thickness required to stop 99% of the radiation is: 5" of steel, 16" of solid brick or hollow concrete blocks filled with mortar or sand, 2 feet of packed earth or 3 feet if loose, 3 feet of water. (BTW, lead is nothing special, same as anything else pound for pound.) You may not have enough steel available, but anything you do have will have mass and can be used to add to your shielding - it just takes more thickness of lighter wood, for example, than heavier earth, to absorb and stop the same amount of radiation. Increasing the distance between your family inside and the radiation outside also reduces the radiation intensity.

The goals of your family fallout shelter are:

To maximize the distance away from the fallout 'dusting' outside on the ground, roof and trees.

To place sufficient mass between your family and the fallout to absorb the deadly radiation

To make the shelter tolerable to stay in while the radiation subsides with every passing hour
While a fallout shelter can be built anywhere, you should see what your best options are at home or nearby. Many structures already provide significant shielding or partial shielding that can be enhanced for adequate protection. If you do not have a basement available, you can still use the techniques shown below in any above ground structure, you'll just need more mass to achieve the same level of shielding. You may consider using other solid structures nearby, especially those with below ground spaces, such as commercial buildings, schools, churches, below ground parking garages, large and long culverts, tunnels, etc.. Some of these may require permissions and/or the acquiring of additional materials to minimize any fallout drifting or blowing into them, if open ended. Buildings with a half-dozen or more floors, where there is not a concern of blast damage, may provide good radiation protection in the center of the middle floors. This is because of both the distance and the shielding the multiple floors provide from the fallout on the ground and roof.

Bottom Line: choose a structure nearby with both the greatest mass and distance already in place between the outside, where the fallout would settle, and the shelter inside.

Looks like they're pumping seawater into the reactors now. Hopefully it will only be a 3-mile island rather than Chernobyl

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/mar/12/japan-nuclear-meltdown-fukushima-reactor

For a few unnerving hours, Japan faced a bleak and unsettling prospect. The devastation wreaked by Friday's earthquake and tsunami seemed set to be followed by a nuclear meltdown that could have spread radioactive waste over large parts of the country.

The nation was one short step away from enduring genpatsu-shinsai – an atomic disaster triggered by earthquake that leading Japanese seismologists had been predicting for several years.

Fears of nuclear mayhem were raised when a massive explosion rocked the Fukushima Daiichi atomic power plant following damage to one of its reactors in Friday's earthquake. A pall of grey-white smoke rose over the plant, operated by Tokyo Electric Power, and it was reported that four workers had been injured.

Government officials revealed plans to distribute iodine tablets – a treatment for radiation poisoning – to locals while a 20km exclusion zone were set up round the plant. Residents outside the zone were urged to stay inside, close doors and windows and turn off air conditioning. Scientists had detected eight times the normal radiation levels outside the facility and 1,000 times normal levels inside the affected unit's control room.

Japan's prime minister, Naoto Kan, declared a state of emergency at the crippled unit and at its sister plant, the Fukushima Daini, as engineers tried frantically to determine whether the reactor had gone into meltdown.

For locals in Fukushima prefecture, still reeling from frequent aftershocks and clearing up after the first disaster, the prospect of another on the way in the form of nuclear meltdown was unwelcome in the extreme.

"It is frightening. You get used to living with the nuclear plants and then something like this happens. When I saw smoke from the plant, I thought, 'Uh oh'," said Kato Tomiyama, a convenience store employeet. "I couldn't believe it," said Seiko Sato, a teacher. "We need more information."

For several hours, observers feared the worst: loss of coolant inside one of the plant's six reactors had caused a dangerous build-up of heat. A second, more deadly explosion – one that would have released a vast radioactive plume over the nation – seemed a real prospect until it was announced that, although the outer structure of the 40-year-old reactor building had been blown off by the blast, the actual reactor inside had not been breached.

Disaster had been avoided – but by the narrowest of margins. It was confirmed last night that radioactive caesium, one of the elements released when overheating causes core damage, had been detected around the plant. The discovery indicates that meltdown, caused by a nuclear reaction running out of control, had indeed affected the reactor's fuel rods – although possibly only to a limited extent. The revelation did little to reassure local people.

"Everyone wants to get out of the town, but the roads are terrible," said Reiko Takagi, a middle-aged woman, standing outside a taxi company. "It is too dangerous to go anywhere. But we are afraid that winds may change and bring radiation towards us."

The operators of the Fukushima plant announced they had started to fill the containment vessels in which the reactor rests with sea water in a bid to cool it down, a process that would take from five to 10 hours, an official told reporters.

Up to 160 may have radiation exposure in Japan nuclear accident

12 Mar 2011 21:34

Source: reuters // Reuters

TOKYO, March 13 (Reuters) - The number of individuals exposed to radiation from the quake-hit Fukushima nuclear power plant in northeastern Japan could reach as high as 160, an official of Japan's nuclear safety agency said on Sunday.

Nine individuals had already shown possible exposure to radiation from the plant, based on information from tests by municipal authorities and other sources, and estimates from the authorities suggested the figure could rise as high as 70 to 160, the official from the Japan Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency told a news conference.

Japan's TEPCO preparing to release radiation from second reactor

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/12/us-japan-quake-tepco-radiation-idUSTRE72B3PJ20110312

(Reuters) - Tokyo Electric Power Co (9501.T) has begun preparation to release radioactive steam from a second reactor at its quake-struck Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power facility, a spokesman said on Sunday.

The TEPCO spokesman said preparation work for the release began at 7:30 a.m. (5:30 p.m. EST).

An official from Japan's nuclear safety watchdog said earlier on Sunday that it had received a report from Japan's largest power producer at 5:10 a.m. that the facility's No. 3 reactor had completely lost its emergency cooling function.

The TEPCO spokesman said the amount of radiation to be released would be small and not of a level that would affect human health.

The No. 1 reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in northeastern Japan had released radiation on Saturday, after a powerful earthquake and tsunami in northeastern Japan the day before left it with a crippled cooling system and the operator was forced to release pressure that had built up in the reactor.

Official: 'We see the possibility of a meltdown'

http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/03/12/japan.quake.nuclear.failure/?hpt=T1

Tokyo (CNN) -- A meltdown may be under way at one of Fukushima Daiichi's nuclear power reactors in northern Japan, an official with Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency told CNN Sunday.

"There is a possibility, we see the possibility of a meltdown," said Toshihiro Bannai, director of the agency's international affairs office, in a telephone interview from the agency's headquarters in Tokyo. "At this point, we have still not confirmed that there is an actual meltdown, but there is a possibility."

Though he said engineers have been unable to get close enough to the core to know what's going on, he based his conclusion on the fact that they measured radioactive cesium and radioactive iodine in the air Saturday night.

"What we have seen is only the slight indication from a monitoring post of cesium and iodine," he said. Since then, he said, plant officials have injected sea water and boron into the plant in an effort to cool its nuclear fuel.

We have some confidence, to some extent, to make the situation to be stable status," he said. "We actually have very good confidence that we will resolve this."

A state of emergency has been declared for it and two of the other five reactors at the same complex, he said. Three are in a safe, shut-down state, he said. "The other two still have some cooling systems, but not enough capacity."

US experts fear 'Chernobyl-like' crisis for Japan

By Ken Maguire
Agence France-Presse
First Posted 07:27:00 03/13/2011

WASHINGTON – US nuclear experts warned Saturday that pumping sea water to cool a quake-hit Japanese nuclear reactor was an "act of desperation" that may foreshadow a Chernobyl-like disaster.

Several experts, in a conference call with reporters, also predicted that regardless of the outcome at the Fukushima No. 1 atomic plant crisis, the accident will seriously damage the nuclear power renaissance.

"The situation has become desperate enough that they apparently don't have the capability to deliver fresh water or plain water to cool the reactor and stabilize it, and now, in an act of desperation, are having to resort to diverting and using sea water," said Robert Alvarez, who works on nuclear disarmament at the Institute for Policy Studies.

"I would describe this measure as a 'Hail Mary' pass," added Alvarez, using American football slang for a final effort to win the game as time expires.

An 8.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Japan on Friday set off the emergency at the plant, which was then hit by an explosion Saturday that prompted an evacuation of the surrounding area.

Workers doused the stricken reactor with sea water to try to avert catastrophe, after the quake knocked out power to the cooling system.

What occurred at the plant was a "station blackout," which is the loss of offsite air-conditioning power combined with the failure of onsite power, in this case diesel generators.

"It is considered to be extremely unlikely but the station blackout has been one of the great concerns for decades," said Ken Bergeron, a physicist who has worked on nuclear reactor accident simulation.
"We're in uncharted territory," he said.

If an official can't say more definatly what is going on it is probably double talk.
Situation is worse than we are being told, I think.

which way is the wind blowing?

Wind blows south-to-north at quake-hit Japan nuclear plant
Sat Mar 12, 2011 12:36pm GMT  Print | Single Page[-] Text
  • TOKYO, March 12 (Reuters) - The wind at a nuclear plant in Japan that is leaking radiation is blowing from the south, which could affect residents north of the facility, Japan's national weather forecaster said on Saturday.

The Fukushima Daiichi plant, operated by Tokyo Electric Power Co's , is located about 240 kilometres north of Tokyo on the country's north eastern coastline.

The weather agency said the wind direction may shift later so that it blows from the north west towards the sea.

The direction of the wind is a key factor in judging possible damage on the environment from the radiation leaking from the plant, which was hit by Japan's biggest earthquake on record and a tsunami.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the weather on Sunday is likely to be clear, with wind coming from the west and later from the south.

which way is the wind blowing?

wherever NATO tells it to.

what we need now is chemtrailing supersonic planes.

Where is Air America, I mean Evergreen and Blackstone when you need them?

Seems like it would make a perfect mass genocide pandemic delivery system. I'd keep my eye on this thing and if takes off on missions after fire season is over, I think we know what's going on. It can reload its payload at any military base according to this video. This company is well known to have deep CIA connections. I seriously doubt that this is the only one of these planes in existence, but that is the official statement. Either way somebody should definitely keep an eye on this plane.

Dr. Horowitz noted his suspicion of this company, Evergreen Aviation, based in McMinneville, Oregon. Evergreen actually owns the spruce goose, it's on display at their museum.

This seems like it'd be nice to fight fires, but we all know how the elite eugenicists love their dual use. It provides great cover for their operations. Hidden in plain view.

Evergreen Air and a Secret Chemtrail Facility

Intel Hub -

A few months ago NotForSale interviewed a whistleblower from inside the Evergreen Air Facility. For those who do not know Evergreen Air is a CIA front company for chemtrail operations within the United States, weapons and arms dealing, drug running and rendition tortures. The whistleblower known as KrisH provided the Intel Hub staff with documentation to prove his employment at the facility located in Pinal County Airpark in Arizona

On Feb 18, 2010 NotForSale from the Intel Hub interviewed a whistleblower employed as a private contractor at an Evergreen Air facility. The information he provided was mind blowing. Never before had a whistleblower came forward about this top secret facility located in the Arizona desert north of Tucson. In the interview KrisH described how the facility is heavily secured by well armed personnel. During his time at the facility he was involved in retro fitting 727 and 747-c aircraft with liquid discharge tanks and aerosol sprayer devices. He has also confirmed reports of triangular black jets at the facility as well during his time there in the early 1990’s. It is also important to note that the facility owns fully functional warbirds that have been fully restored from WWII, where all of the weapon systems and bomb bay doors are operable on the craft. This type of craft is not authorized by civilian, public or private use within the U.S. This would indicate that Evergreen Air is indeed a CIA operation. The Whistleblower has also heard there is an underground base at the facility and confirms there is a possible “Black Helicopter” base on site as well. Note: Evergreen Air also specializes in unmanned aerial drones.

Facts Regarding Evergreen Air

Editors Note: Spraying for chemtrails would almost be a normal thing for Evergreen Air. This “front” company has been exposed as taking part in such shady events as problems with its “non” profit museum, making a substantial amount of money off the Iraq War, gun running in Central America, chauffeuring dictators, and among other things, flying Bill O Reilly to Iraq.

Evergreen International Aviation, Inc. is an Oregon-based aviation company with longstanding ties to the CIA. Its huge Evergreen Maintenance Center in Arizona was bought from the Agency, which offered the property to no-one else.1 In 1980 an Evergreen plane flew the recently deposed Shah of Iran from Panama to Egypt, hours before the Panamanian government was due to receive an extradition request from the new government in Tehran.[1] Giving rides to dictators is something of a specialty for the company – it also allowed El Salvador‘s President Duarte to use its helicopter, which was officially in the country to help repair power lines.1

And according to a series of articles in The Oregonian in 1988, Evergreen’s owner and founder Delford M. Smith “…acknowledged one agreement under which his companies provide occasional jobs and cover to foreign nationals the CIA wants taken out of other countries or brought into the United States. However, neither Smith nor CIA officials would say whether any broader agreement existed.”1

Since 1973 the CIA had been anticipating this and had moved quickly to give all of its clandestinely owned aircraft to its alleged proprietary, Evergreen International based out of Marana Air Park near Tucson Arizona and McMinville Oregon, near Portland. Coincidentally, Medford Oregon is the home base of aircraft broker Roy Reagan. Reagan was convicted in 1997, along with another man on criminal charges stemming from a scheme to fraudulently take $80 million worth of airplanes from the U.S. government and place them in private hands. Reagan was also the broker for Evergreen according to a lawsuit filed by former CIA pilot Gary Eitel. (Source)

The Dark History – In 1976 Senator Frank Church submitted CIA General Counsel Lawrence Houston to intense grilling over the Agency’s questionable and illegal operation of proprietary air transport services. At that time, Houston admitted that the CIA had routinely used the United States Postal Service and the U.S. Forrest Service as covers for covert activities. Houston admitted that The Forest Service had been infiltrated by CIA and that CIA shared an address with the Forrest Service’s Air Research and Development unit on Kent Street in Alexandria, VA.

Implicated in a plan to blow up New York City

An alleged plot to blow up the pipeline and tanks that feed jet fuel to John F. Kennedy international airport, in New York, was thwarted at the weekend with the arrest of a “cell” of Islamic extremists from the Caribbean.

It is claimed that the alleged plotters planned to destroy the “whole of Kennedy” in a series of explosions that would make the September 11 attack “seem small”.

It is claimed that Mr Defreitas, 63, a naturalized US citizen born in Guyana, told the informant that he wanted to attack the airport because in the early 1990s he had seen missiles being shipped to Israel while he was working for Evergreen International Aviation (Source)

Forest Service and Evergreen Air Work Hand in Hand

I had earlier looked at the U.S. Forest Service’s operations at the Pinal Air Park, Marana, Arizona and found that there was a cooperative deal between the Forest Service/Government and Evergreen Air where the Forest Service/Government allowed Evergreen to develop, under contract, the Evergreen Supertanker in exchange for allowing the planes to be used for Government Contracts during non-peak fire season. Well, I found that in March 2007 Evergreen discontinued their Supertanker program very abruptly. Several links will give you some of the background of the program that was being developed for fighting western wildfires.

“Between 1962 and 1975, we worked on different research-and-development projects out of Marana Airpark, near Tucson, Arizona. Projects we tested included a ‘para-wing’ with a remote-control device and a parachute with a built-in guidance system that could zero in on a ground frequency system commonly known as a ground-to-air beacon device. Also, we tested the Parachute Impact System, which played a huge role in the secret war in Laos. This parachute allowed the pilot to fly high enough to keep out of range of small-arms fire. We worked with the Forest Service and BLM in…support of [combating] wildfire. From New Mexico to Alaska, we worked with the CIA and assisted in airborne training back in Williamsburg, Virginia.” (Source)

Above Top Secret – Chemtrail Base

Updated June 2nd
Are Asthma, Chemtrails, and Storms Connected?

Tim White lives in Denver, Colorado and spends a lot of time digging up information over the Internet. He participates on more than 60 chat boards. His phenomenal memory, coupled with an intuitive nose for detecting things rotten, allows him to connect the dots better than most. He told me that he immediately noticed chemtrails in the skies over Denver when they began the aerosol spraying operations in 1998. Before he had access to a computer or even had an e-mail address, he was trying to make noise with local media to get them to cover the chemtrail story which, as we know, most of them will assiduously ignore with a fierce determination.

It’s not just a matter of blindness, of course. Mainstream ‘reporters’ (an oxymoron in and of itself) are adhering to a strict dictum from higher ups concerning what they can and what they shall not cover. Thousands of American citizens have written, faxed, e-mailed, or telephoned their congressional representatives over the past seven years inquiring about chemtrails only to be ignored, stonewalled, or put off with moronic denials such as ‘chemtrails are just ordinary contrails’ etc. Of all the deceit, disinformation, misdirection, obfuscations, and outright lies being perpetrated against the people of the United States by their own government,
the official denial of chemtrails seems to be the number one
item at the top of the ‘deny at all cost’ list.

Even the government’s role in coordinating, engineering, and enabling the attacks that took place in New York and Washington DC on September 11, 2001, is less vigorously denied and stonewalled than the chemtrails story.

Why?

Because chemtrail spraying is a world wide operation of GENOCIDE on an unparalleled level.

To be sure, there are other objectives for chemtrail spraying including the short-circuiting of higher consciousness development, but the main goal is the gradual and CONTINUAL destruction of the body’s immune system so when highly virulent bioengineered pathogens are introduced into the environment by the covert jackals laboring on behalf of the Illuminati and their directors sitting on the Committee of 300, the vast majority of people (around the world) will succumb to these laboratory produced diseases due to a depleted and compromised immune system.

Of course, there are air heads out there reading this who will immediately shoot back that “it can’t be so because the politicians cooperating with the Illuminati’s genocide agenda would die too” etc. But no, the Illuminati would never deploy a bio weapon into the general populace that they themselves did not have the antidote for or some other means of being shielded and protected from its effects, including the effects of chemtrails.

We’ve learned long ago from inside people like Al Bielek that the secret government had available to them, as early as 1953, age regression equipment obtained from aliens that could reverse age any living being back in time. If you have equipment that can reverse age someone, that means that you can bring the body’s cells back to a state prior to them being damaged or compromised because of a disease condition or a toxic exposure. So in addition to becoming younger, the body would also become free of disease. In fact, an Italian by the name of Antoine Priore had stumbled upon this very sort of technology back in the 1960′s after having been funded by the French government for seven million dollars. According to Tom Bearden, who helped to line up financial backers for Priore, when the Illuminati Big Boys found out about Priore’s successful trials with animals, they got all the backers to pull out and Priore was soon reduced to a poverty existence and quietly suppressed into obliviousness.

Tim White also made a discovery in July of 2000. He participated in a 1.5 hour radio interview about chemtrails on the morning of July 28 with a hostile radio host by the name of Peter Boyles who had attempted to sandbag Tim and make him look foolish, but the attempt backfired and the show received a tremendous amount of response from listeners. The interview was set up for Tim by his then girlfirend, Doreen Bishop.

According to Tim, Doreen is a victim of mind control and is in frequent communication with none other than Gerorge Soros, who appears to act as Doreen’s handler. The morning following Tim’s radio interview, a Dr. William W. Storms of Colorado Spring’s Asthma & Allergy Associates shows up on a Denver TV show encouraging viewers to contact his clinic if they have been experiencing any symptoms of asthma-like respiratory difficulties. Tim finds this a bit too conincidental and tries to get a contact number for Dr. Storms from the TV station, but is given the run-around. He eventually gets a phone number for Dr. Storms from the show’s producer after threatening to make a stink about it with the newspapers.

What happened next is revealed in Tim’s March 3, 2005 e-mail to Dr. Storms that is reproduced below. Tim had cc’d the e-mail to me along with about 30 other people. In his original e-amil to Dr. Storms, Tim had attached a long article about chemtrails titled ‘Ozone Hole Leads to Special Measures for UV Control’ (and subtitled ‘CHEMTRAILS OVERVIEW’ by Tim White) that was supposedly written by an “Oak Ridge Whistleblower” using the name of “Jim Phelps”, a likely pseudonym. I didn’t include that overview here both due to length and inaccuracy. While the ‘Phelp’s’ article contained a ton of info about chemtrails, it also contained a lot of misinformationa and disinformation as well, but you can still read it at this link if you’re curious.

After speaking with a military intelligence operative named ‘Paul’ who answered the phone at Dr. Storms ‘office’ on July 29, 2000, Tim realized that Storms’ TV appearance was itself an intelligence gathering operation for the CDC to monitor the fallout effects from chemtrail spraying. Dr. Len Horowitz discusses the CDC’s role as data collector, monitor, and coordinator of the Illuminati’s many genocide operations inlcuding AIDS and chemtrails in his book on chemtrails titled Death in the Air: Globalism, Terrorism & Toxic Warfare. ..Ken]

1. The NAZIs had a program (Mistel Program) where they filled old Luftwaffe planes with high explosives and flew them by remote control at Allied Targets.

2. That the Mistel Program was brought to the US via Operation Paperclip.

3. That similar planes were assembled by one Darrell Skurich through CIA front Evergreen International Airlines for use against the Pentagon in the 911 attack.

4. That Darryl Skurich was responsible for the death of John Breit, a Denver Area Aviation Attorney, who had become aware of certain C.I.A. operations involving narcotics trafficking in the US. (More info coming.)

Mistel Program

Description:

The Mistel series of composite aircraft are without a doubt one of the strangest concepts to achieve operational status with the Luftwaffe. The original concept was proposed to the RLM in 1941 by Siegfried Holzbauer, A Junkers test pilot. His idea was to make use of “tired” Ju 88 airframes by packing them with explosives, fly them near a target and crash them into the target after the fighter had released itself. The fighter pilot would control the “missle” after release by remote control.

The first conversion flew in July 1943 and proved successful enough for the RLM to approved a further 15 conversions, with the code name Beethoven. Tests with Ju 88 fuselage sized hollow charge warheads against the French battleship Oran proved to be successful and an eventual thickness of 60 feet of reinforced concrete was breached in further tests. Over 250 Mistels of various combinations were built, but like all the Third Reichs super weapons, they proved too little too late.

Warhead: – Source: Wikipedia

The definitive Mistel warhead was a shaped charge around a core of copper or aluminium. When detonated, the explosion would create a penetrator made of the core of the above-mentioned copper or aluminium. The metal would then “behave” like a liquid (and not, as often falsely reported, liquefy), capable of penetrating up to 7 metres (24 feet) of steel armour. It was anticipated that this would be able to “drill” straight through an enemy warship.

Some 250 Mistels of various combinations were built during the war, but met with limited success. They were first flown in combat against the Allied invasion fleet during Battle of Normandy, targeting the British-held harbour at Courseulles-sur-Mer.

While Mistel pilots claimed hits, none of these can be correlated in Allied records, and they may have been made against the hulk of the old French battleship Courbet, which had been included as a component of the Mulberry harbour at Arromanches and specially dressed up as a decoy by the Allies. Serious blast and shrapnel damage from a near miss was also suffered by HMS Nith, a floating headquarters, on 21 June. There were 9 killed and 26 wounded and the Nith was towed to back to England for repairs.

A visit to SourceWatch.org was much more revealing.

According to them, as part of Operation Iron Hammer in late 1943 and early 1944, Mistels were selected to carry out key raids against Soviet weapons manufacturing facilities — specifically, electricity-generating plants around Moscow and Gorky. These plants were known to be poorly-defended by the Soviets and irreplaceable. However, before the plan could be implemented, the Red Army was already pushing into Germany itself and it was decided to use the Mistels against their bridgehead at Kuestrin instead. On April 12, 1945, Mistels attacked the bridges being built there, but the damage caused was negligible and delayed the Soviet forces for only a day or two. Subsequent Mistelattacks on other bridges being thrown across the Oder were similarly ineffective.

A second opportunity to use the Mistels, in Scapa Flow in 1944 was abandoned after the loss of the Tirpitz assured local air superiority for the Royal Navy’s aircraft carriers.

I have to wonder if we would be facing this crisis if the International Atomic Energy Agency had focused on inspecting the safety of the very real power stations of the world instead of wasting all their time and resources trying to find the fantasy nuclear weapons of Iraq and Iran.

Mike Rivero is spot on and the ex-head of the IAEA, a member of the CFR and a total cybernetic puppet analyst like Randy Strange "RAND" McNamara was is about to be the president of Egypt. With 80 million people consolidated into the cybernetic IAEA borg...what could go wrong?

Japan’s Remilitarisation

For 40 years, Japan has incrementally raised its defense budget, extended its security perimeter, improved its armaments, and raised the bureaucratic status and operational ambit of the Self-Defense Forces. Do these trends, which accelerated after 2001, represent remilitarization or just the maintenance of a defensive posture in a more challenging security environment? Hughes argues for the former interpretation, based not just on data about budgets and weapons but also on contextual factors, such as the erosion of civilian control over the military, the strengthening of the military-industrial complex, the Liberal Democratic Party's promotion of constitutional changes, and Japan's acceptance of new tasks within the U.S.-Japanese defense alliance. Such trends validate the wariness of Japan's neighbors, such as China. But as Hughes acknowledges, Japan is nowhere near having the capacity to go to war without support from the United States. With Japan's government now under a new ruling party, this book provides a useful baseline from which to measure the future evolution of Japanese defense policy.

Adelphi 403: Japan's Remilitarisation

Christopher W. Hughes

Is Japan on a path towards assuming a greater military role internationally, or has the recent military normalisation ground to a halt since the premiership of Junichiro Koizumi? In this book, Christopher W. Hughes assesses developments in defence expenditure, civil–military relations, domestic and international military–industrial complexes, Japan’s procurement of regional and global power-projection capabilities, the expansion of US–Japan cooperation, and attitudes towards nuclear weapons, constitutional revision and the use of military force.

In all of these areas, dynamic and long-term changes outweigh Japan’s short-term political logjam over security policy. Hughes argues that many post-war constraints on Japan’s military role are still eroding, and that Tokyo is moving towards a more assertive military role and strengthened US–Japan cooperation. Japan’s remilitarisation will boost its international security role and the dominance of the US–Japan alliance in regional and global security affairs, but will need to be carefully managed if it is not to become a source of destabilising tensions.

No call yet for Springs military assistance after tsunami

March 11, 2011 11:21 AM
TOM ROEDER
THE GAZETTE

Any American military relief effort would likely involve troops from U.S. Northern Command in Colorado Springs, which plans military assistance for American natural disasters.

Leaders at the Peterson Air Force command said they're watching the situation but have not received orders to provide help.

"We're watching the situation as it unfolds and standing by for any requests that might come," a Northern Command spokesman said Friday morning.

At the Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command at Peterson, leaders were ready to deliver assistance with mapping and satellite images — help they provided to federal and state authorities during Hurricane Katrina.

Air Force Space Command at Peterson has similar skills it could bring to the relief effort.
The command has infrared satellites sensitive enough to spot fires on the ground.

The 302nd Airlift Wing, an Air Force Reserve unit at Peterson, is skilled in aerial firefighting, casualty evacuation and air-dropping cargo — three things that could be useful in Japan.

Also, the Department of Defense released a statement from Defense Secretary Robert Gates:

"I've been kept informed all day long about the tsunami in Japan, the earthquake and tsunami.  As best we can tell, all of our people are OK, our ships and military facilities are all in pretty good shape.  We obviously have huge sympathy for the people of Japan and we are prepared to help them in any way we possibly can.  It's obviously a very sophisticated country, but this is a huge disaster and we will do all, anything we are asked to do to help out."

2 weeks ago..read between the lines...THIS IS A WARNING TO JAPAN TO CONTINUE ITS "DEPENDENCE" ON THE UNITED STATES/NATO OR IT WILL MEET A HEAVY RETALIATION.

POINT OF VIEW
Christopher Hughes:
Japan's foreign policy for a new age:
Realistic realism

SPECIAL TO THE ASAHI SHIMBUN

2011/02/26

http://www.asahi.com/english/TKY201102250337.html

The administration led by the Democratic Party of Japan has experienced a torrent criticism over its foreign policy since taking power from the Liberal Democratic Party. The DPJ leadership has promised to exploit the opportunities of a changing international system and to pursue more autonomous foreign policy, different from that of the LDP perceived as over-dependent on the United States and fundamentally antagonistic toward China.

However, just over a year into the DPJ's first administration it might be possible to talk of the collapse of Japanese foreign policy. The DPJ government has managed the extraordinary feat of first alienating its U.S. ally over the issue of relocating the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in a failed attempt to exert a more equal voice in alliance cooperation, but then of actually demonstrating increased dependence on the United States in the wake of Japan-China disputes in the East China Sea. Conversely, the DPJ has found itself unable to sustain a new cooperative relationship with China, as rivalries over territory and resources have remerged. The DPJ's foreign policy has remained mired in the same domestic constraints in regard to North Korea. Little progress has been made on the establishment of an East Asian community, and to boot Japan-Russia relations have regressed back to quarrels over the Northern Territories.

The LDP and other observers of Japanese foreign policy might like to argue that all this vindicates their suspicions of the ineptitude of the DPJ and its policy prescriptions. Japan, after the initial experiments of the DPJ, has now come to its senses, they argue, and is moving back to a more pragmatic policy line, accepting of the need to conform with the past trajectory of the LDP, and appropriately moving closer to the United States as an ally, or in other words is back on a course of "reluctant realism."

However, for the DPJ to continue to pursue this course would be not only to default to the LDP's foreign policy mistakes of the past, but also become unsustainable over the longer term. The LDP's "reluctant realism" under Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and his successors were replete with short-sighted and impossible contradictions. The agreement over Futenma's relocation--adopted by the LDP and now by the DPJ--is just one glaring example of the Japanese and U.S. governments' refusal to frankly recognize domestic political realities and to think more inventively about how to restructure the alliance to ensure its legitimacy and future stability. More widely, the LDP's and now increasingly the DPJ's seeking for Japan of an enhanced foreign policy presence mainly through the mechanism of the Japan-U.S. alliance is a move which contains the seeds of its own failure. For the more that Japan defaults to ready dependence on the United States in security and foreign policy, the more that will simply compound Japanese concerns over the risks of entrapment and abandonment by its ally over issues such as North Korea and the East China Sea, and the more that this will frustrate Japanese ambitions as a major power and engender mutual suspicions within the alliance and thus weaken its basis.

I call this defaulting on dependence on the United States not "reluctant' realism," but "resentful realism," characterized by increasing Japanese paranoia about U.S. intentions, and Japanese cantankerousness and unpredictably, all of which is ultimately destabilizing for Japan-U.S. ties and for the wider East Asia region. Clearly neither "reluctant realism" nor "resentful realism" is sustainable solutions to Japan's foreign policy predicament.

Instead, I would advocate that Japan should return to pursuing a course of "realistic realism." Japanese policymakers, whether in the LDP or DPJ, need to perceive the international situation, Japan's power capabilities, and its essential interests, much more clearly than in recent years. Japan should not just recognize that, as it has intimated in the recent review of the National Defense Program Guidelines, U.S. unipolarity is giving way to multipolarity in East Asia, but also have the strength of conviction to act upon this. Japan should, of course, continue to maintain its alliance with the United States because of shared security and economic interests, and hopefully shared values as well. At the same time, though, Japan must be prepared to stand up to the United States on key questions where a sense of realistic realism is giving way to reluctant or resentful realism. This may include Futenma or future entanglement in U.S. military adventurism. As we have discovered in Britain following wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, too much fawning to the United States as a hoped for means to exert influence can in the end actually make you less indispensable to the United States as an ally, and sometimes the best way to be a friend to the United States is to reject its wilder advances. Even more importantly, Japan must act in a serious fashion, rather than the current dalliance, to complement, and when necessary counter-balance, the Japan-U.S. relationship by strengthening other key strategic relations with a variety of rising and smaller powers. Japan has to find ways to co-exist with China, but its relations with China cannot be managed as currently through the Japan-U.S. alliance or attempts at trilateralism alone. For Japan the key to a long-term relationship with China, free of major frictions, if not totally free of strategic competition, must lie in efforts to embed its rising power within functioning East Asian regionalism.

Hence, Japan must redouble its efforts, and very long-term they must be, in building multilateralism and the East Asian community project.

The good news for the DPJ is that its foreign policy vision at least is not far from this type of 'realistic realism.' The DPJ has been willing to question all types of past taboos in foreign and security policy set up by the LDP. The obvious problem has been that the DPJ has simply been unable to implement its vision. In part, this is understandable due to lack of experience and its domestic political problems. But if the DPJ really is to succeed in adapting Japan's foreign policy to the emerging changes in the international system, then it must wean itself off the easy dependency on the United States and have the courage of its convictions to strike out on a new path. One thing for certain is that the current policy path, whilst easy over the short-term, is unsustainable and doomed to failure of the longer term.

Recent energy policy: Focus on nuclear - updated 24 February 2011

Japan's energy policy has been driven by considerations of energy security and the need to minimise dependence on current imports. The main elements regarding nuclear power are:

continue to have nuclear power as a major element of electricity production.
recycle uranium and plutonium from used fuel, initially in LWRs, and have reprocessing domestically from 2005.

promote nuclear energy to the public, emphasising safety and non-proliferation.

In March 2002 the Japanese government announced that it would rely heavily on nuclear energy to achieve greenhouse gas emission reduction goals set by the Kyoto Protocol.

A 10-year energy plan, submitted in July 2001 to the Minister of Economy Trade & Industry (METI), was endorsed by cabinet. It called for an increase in nuclear power generation by about 30 percent (13,000 MWe), with the expectation that utilities would have 9 to 12 new nuclear plants operating by 2011.

At present Japan has 54 reactors totalling 46,102 MWe (net) on line, with two (2756 MWe) under construction and 12 (16,532 MWe) planned.

In 2010 the first of those now operating reached their 40-year mark, at which stage some may close down. However, JAPC obtained approval for its small Tsuruga unit 1 to continue to 2016, due to 2 x 1538 MWe new capacity at that site being delayed. Then Kansai applied for a 10-year licence extension from November 2010 for its Mihama-1. NISA approved Kansai's long-term maintenance and management policy for the unit and granted a life extension accordingly, which was then agreed by local government.

JAPAN FLOODS REACTOR WITH SEAWATER TO AVERT MELTDOWNJoe Weisenthal | Mar. 12, 2011, 4:56 PM

The facility under media scrutiny is Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, located about 150 miles north of Tokyo; the facility has General Electric boiling water reactors.

It is similar to several U.S. facilities, Brown’s Ferry (Alabama, Tennesee Valley Authority), Peach Bottom (Pennsylvania, Philadephia Electric Company, PECO), Pilgrim (Massachusetts, Entergy) and Vermont Yankee (Entergy).

The Fukushima Daiichi plant seemed appropriately designed to withstand the earthquake, even though the magnitude of the quake was outside of its design standards. The design weakness was exposed after the tsunami hit.

What is a core meltdown?
A core meltdown occurs when the heat inside the reactor grows so great that the fuel itself melts; generally, this means temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Even before the explosion in Japan, economic reality had taken a bite out of the nuclear industry's ambitious expansion plans in the U.S.

Natural gas has been so cheap that utilities have turned to it to generate electricity, rather than contemplate building multi-billion-dollar reactors. The recession has also dampened demand for electrical power, further diminishing the appeal of a massive investment in nuclear facilities.

Constellation Energy Corp. recently backed out of plans to build a new reactor at an existing nuclear plant in Calvert Cliffs, Md., because of high expense and low demand. The Department of Energy has approved just one project, in Georgia, for its loan guarantees.

Nuclear power continues to expand abroad however, with dozens of new power plants planned in China, India and Europe. And even skeptics of nuclear power in the U.S. said it's too early to tell how the Japanese reactor explosion will affect the industry's long-term future.

If radiation leaks turn out to be minimal and emergency response plans are proved effective, the American public might take it as a good sign, said Mr. Singer, the industry spokesman. "It would go a long way to reassuring people that we can handle some of these challenging situations," he said.

Russia and Japan Say Better Relations Needed to Solve Territory Dispute
By Andrey Volkov
Epoch Times Staff Created: Feb 13, 2011

Top Russian and Japanese diplomats said Sunday that both countries need to foster good relations to resolve a longstanding ownership dispute over the Kuril Islands, which stretch between northern Japan and the eastern Russian peninsula of Kamchatka.

The announcement comes after both Russian and Japanese foreign ministers at a press conference in Moscow Feb. 11, insisted that their country owns the rights to the territories.

Two days earlier on Feb. 9, at a meeting with Russian officials, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Russia is looking to strengthen its military presence on the Kurils and will deploy weapons to ensure the security of the islands, which he called “an inseparable part of [the] Russian Federation,” according to a transcript from the meeting.

“We will take any effort to strengthen our presence on the Kuril Islands,” Medvedev said.

Japan Runs Into More Rough Waters

February 16, 2011, 9:53 PM JST
By Yuri Tomikawa

Japan thought it had enough problems with its separate territorial issues with China and Russia. Now, the two countries it was dealing with are blurring lines—and other neighbors may be joining the ruckus too.

According to Japanese media, Russia’s Federal Agency for Fishery announced Tuesday that Chinese and Russian fishery companies had reached a basic agreement to farm sea cucumbers in the islands north of Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaido—islands still claimed by Japan but controlled by Moscow since Soviet troops occupied them in the last days of World War II.

Coming just days after the unfruitful weekend meeting between Japan’s Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow, the announcement wasn’t welcome at all in Japan. Prime Minister Naoto Kan decried the development as “incompatible with our country’s position.” Mr. Maehara said, “If the news is true, we cannot accept it at all,” reiterating Japan’s unchanging position: The islands are Japanese territory.

The tension over the islands had already reached new heights, with Mr. Kan last week condemning as “an unforgivable outrage” the November visit to one of the islands by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, a remark Mr. Lavrov declared “undiplomatic.”

Gates hopes for Japan-US base progress in months

(AFP) – Feb 16, 2011

WASHINGTON — US Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Wednesday praised Japan's efforts to find a solution to a dispute over a US base on Okinawa and said he hoped for progress "later this spring."

"I feel like the Japanese government is making a serious effort to resolve the Futenma issue," Gates told the US House of Representatives Armed Services Committee, referring to Marine Corps Air Station Futenma on the island.

"My hope is that we will get resolution, particularly on the configuration of the airfield or the runways perhaps later this spring. And that would then allow us to go forward with our planning," he said.

Japan and the United States squabbled for much of the past year over the relocation of the base after a new government in Tokyo pledged to take a fresh look at the US military alliance.

But Gates warned that "without resolution" of the issue of finding a replacement site, "troops don't leave Okinawa; lands don't get returned to the Japanese, to the Okinawans" and said he had made those points to the Japanese.

INTERVIEW: Japan Government Vows To Overcome Parliamentary Stalemate

By Toko Sekiguchi
FEBRUARY 17, 2011

TOKYO (Dow Jones)--Japan's deputy government spokesman said Thursday that the ruling Democratic Party of Japan will seek ways to gain opposition support, suggesting it may be willing to make concessions as growing intra-party strife continues to undermine Prime Minister Naoto Kan's efforts to repair the country's battered finances and threaten his hold on power.

Hirohisa Fujii, Deputy Cabinet speaker and a former finance minister, said in an interview with Dow Jones Newswires that while the government must stand firm on policy issues such as the current budget bill and the U.S. military presence in Okinawa, the party will continue talks with the opposition to garner parliamentary support to pass important legislation.

"The government must maintain its position, but political parties can move in ways" government can't, the 78-year-old Fujii said.

"It's natural for political parties to negotiate with one another," Fujii added, suggesting that the DPJ may make concessions on the budget and tax codes in exchange for support to pass budget bills. "We must do all we can to overcome the parliamentary stalemate."

Fujii's comments came hours after a group of 16 DPJ lawmakers revolted against Kan by announcing the creation of an independent group within the DPJ that may oppose the government on important legislation.

US official's 'mockery' of Okinawa angers Japan

(AFP) – 4 days ago

TOKYO — Japan officially complained Tuesday over derogatory remarks allegedly made by a State Department official about the people of Okinawa island, the reluctant hosts of many American bases.

Kevin Maher, who heads the US State Department's Japanese affairs office, reportedly called Okinawans "lazy" in an off-the-record speech to students in Washington in December.

He also called the islanders "masters of manipulation and extortion" as they seek compensation for hosting the US bases, according to a Kyodo News agency report based on notes provided by students who heard the speech.

In Japan, acting foreign minister Yukio Edano said he had relayed the government's anger in a telephone call to US ambassador John Roos on Tuesday.

Maher's comments had "severely hurt the feeling of not only the Okinawan people but also the Japanese people. We cannot tolerate it," Edano said later.

Defence Minister Toshimi Kitazawa told a news conference that the comments, if correctly reported, "absolutely make a mockery of the people of Okinawa".

U.S. military moves in for Japan quake relief

March 12, 2011 4:37 PM

In the past 75 years, the U.S. military has built close ties with the Japanese military, and the two sides are now putting this cooperation to the test as the Asian island nation digs out from one of the worst disasters in its history.

President Barack Obama said Saturday that one U.S. aircraft carrier, the USS Ronald Reagan, was already off the coast of Japan, and another was on its way. Washington has also dispatched urban search and rescue teams, according to U.S. Ambassador John Roos.

CBS News correspondent David Martin reports that the USS Reagan is serving as a "lily pad" for Japanese helicopters, i.e. a place to land and refuel. Reagan has a supply ship with it, so it will be able to keep refueling Japanese helicopters indefinitely. There are two escort ships with the USS Reagan and four more destroyers on the way to conduct Search and Rescue.

The next big deck ship to arrive will be the Tortuga, probably sometime tomorrow. It has just finished loading heaving lift MH-53 helos in Korea and is en route to Honshu. The Essex, an amphibious ship carrying a Marine Expeditionary Unit is in the South China Sea but still a couple days away. It will rendezvous with two other amphibious ships: Harpers Ferry and Germantown.

The Saudi "Day of Rage" was known by at least 1 billion people due to Rothschild's Reuters and AP promoting the hell out of it. Lindsey did not get any "secret" info even if he thought it was secret (which is mindboggling if true).

End operations in Afghanistan, Karzai tells NATO
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/03/13/end-operations-in-afghanistan-karzai-tells-nato/
By Agence France-Presse
Sunday, March 13th, 2011 -- 12:24 am

ASADABAD, Afghanistan (AFP) – An emotional Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Saturday told international troops to "stop their operations in our land", his strongest remarks yet over mistaken killings of civilians. Karzai's comments came after a week in which a relative of his was killed in a raid by foreign forces and he rejected an apology by the US commander of troops General David Petraeus for the deaths of nine children in a NATO strike. "I would like to ask NATO and the US with honour and humbleness and not with arrogance to stop their operations in our land," Karzai said in Pashto as he visited the dead children's relatives in Kunar province, eastern Afghanistan.

"We are very tolerant people but now our tolerance has run out."

In an apparent reference to neighbouring Pakistan, where insurgents have hideouts in lawless border regions, Western-backed Karzai said international forces "should go and fight this war where we have showed them (it is)". "This war is not in our land," Karzai added. Karzai's spokesman Waheed Omer said the president's remarks had been urging an end to civilian casualties in international operations.

Govt Warns Of Power Shortage, Utility To Ration Power By Region

http://e.nikkei.com/e/fr/tnks/Nni20110313D13JF640.htm

TOKYO (Kyodo)--Japan's eastern and northeastern areas may fall into an ''abnormal'' situation involving a shortage in electricity supply in the wake of Friday's powerful earthquake that hit Japan and crippled nuclear power plants in the northeast, industry minister Banri Kaieda said Sunday.

To avoid possible massive blackouts in the areas, Tokyo Electric Power Co. said it will conduct from Monday an unprecedented planned rationing of power in its service area that covers Tokyo, Chiba, Gunma, Ibaraki, Kanagawa, Saitama, Tochigi, Yamanashi and part of Shizuoka prefectures.

The measure would last until the end of April, TEPCO officials said, while adding that it plans to exclude from the areas subject to the measure the central Tokyo area where the country's core functions exist.

Kaieda said earlier in the day, ''As companies and others will start economic activities...from tomorrow and afterward, there is a high possibility that the service areas of Tokyo Electric and Tohoku Electric Power Co. will face an abnormal situation in which a great deal of supply shortage will occur.''

He also said the government has urged large companies to limit electricity use and that the government and utility companies will take every possible measure to minimize the impact of any planned outage on people's lives.

According to TEPCO, the suspension of electricity on Monday will be implemented from 6:20 a.m. to 10 p.m. in various parts of Tokyo, excluding most of central districts, and eight other prefectures, which are divided into five groups. Each power suspension would last for about three hours, and some groups are expected to experience the outage twice on Monday.

About 27 percent of the company's total power generation capacity relies on three nuclear power stations located in Fukushima and Niigata prefectures. Some 45 million people live in TEPCO's service area.

It is difficult to offset the shortage by receiving electricity from other utility companies because Tohoku Electric's facilities have also suffered damage and electric power frequency differs in western Japan.
