The EPA already has the power to regulate anything "toxic", that's why it was so important when CO2 was declared to be a toxin.

They are going to have to come up with something better than this.  How about BAN THE EPA AND ALL GOVERNMENT PAPERPUSHERS.

They may have confiscated gold in the 1930's but they will have a hard time confiscating lead in the 2010's.

Environmental Protection Agency Reviewing Petition to Ban Lead Bullets
Will the EPA infuriate gun owners--and seal the fate of Democrats on November 2?
BY John McCormack

Will Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson make a back door move to ban lead bullets the day before the November 2 elections?

Several environmentalist groups led by the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) are petitioning the EPA to ban lead bullets and shot (as well as lead sinkers for fishing) under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Although EPA is barred by statute from controlling ammunition, CBD is seeking to work farther back along the manufacturing chain and have EPA ban the use of lead in bullets and shot because non-lead alternatives are available. But here's the catch: the alternatives to lead bullets are more expensive. A ban on the sale of lead ammunition would force hunters and sport shooters to buy non-lead ammunition that is often double the cost of traditional lead ammunition.  A box of deer hunting bullets in a popular caliber could be upwards of $55.

EPA Considering Ban on All Traditional Ammunition
ACT NOW!!!

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010 at 2:20 pm

NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- All Gun Owners, Hunters and Shooters:

With the fall hunting season fast approaching, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under Lisa Jackson, who was responsible for banning bear hunting in New Jersey, is now considering a petition by the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) – a leading anti-hunting organization – to ban all traditional ammunition under the Toxic Substance Control Act of 1976, a law in which Congress expressly exempted ammunition.

If the EPA approves the petition, the result will be a total ban on all ammunition containing lead-core components, including hunting and target-shooting rounds. The EPA must decide to accept or reject this petition by November 1, 2010, the day before the midterm elections.

Today, the EPA has opened to public comment the CBD petition. The comment period ends on October 31, 2010.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) — the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry – urges you to submit comment to the EPA opposing any ban on traditional ammunition. Remember, your right to choose the ammunition you hunt and shoot with is at stake.

This has nothing to do with protecting the environment. If the EPA was really concerned about the environment, the agency would be working on banning DU ammo, GMO's, etc through the means outlined in the Constitution instead of non-issues as this and farm dust. This is a direct assault on our Constitutionally protected 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. After all, what good are firearms if we can't get ammo?

EPA Denies Petition Calling for Lead Ammunition Ban
Threat to ban lead in fishing tackle remains active.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today denied a petition calling for a ban on the production and distribution of lead hunting ammunition. EPA sent a letter to the petitioners explaining the rejection – that letter can be found here: http://www.epa.gov/oppt/chemtest/pubs/sect21.html

Steve Owens, EPA assistant administrator for the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, issued the following statement on the agency’s decision:

EPA today denied a petition submitted by several outside groups for the agency to implement a ban on the production and distribution of lead hunting ammunition. EPA reached this decision because the agency does not have the legal authority to regulate this type of product under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) – nor is the agency seeking such authority.

This petition, which was submitted to EPA at the beginning of this month, is one of hundreds of petitions submitted to EPA by outside groups each year. This petition was filed under TSCA, which requires the agency to review and respond within 90 days.

Are they also going to deny the CO2 ban that amounts to genocide?

EPA Surrenders to NRA on Gun Control Issue
EPA rejects attempt to regulate lead in bullets after NRA protests

By Paul Bedard

Posted: August 27, 2010

In a swift and unexpected decision, the Environmental Protection Agency today rejected a petition from environmental groups to ban the use of lead in bullets and shotgun shells, claiming it doesn't have jurisdiction to weigh on the controversial Second Amendment issue. The decision came just hours after the Drudge Report posted stories from Washington Whispers and the Weekly Standard about how gun groups were fighting the lead bullet ban.
Click here to find out more!

The EPA had planned to solicit public responses to the petition for two months, but this afternoon issued a statement rejecting a 100-page request from the Center for Biological Diversity, the American Bird Conservancy, and three other groups for a ban on lead bullets, shot, and fishing sinkers. The agency is still considering what to do about sinkers.

The decision was a huge victory for the National Rifle Association which just seven days ago asked that the EPA reject the petition, suggesting that it was a back door attempt to limit hunting and impose gun control. It also was a politically savvy move to take gun control off the table as the Democrats ready for a very difficult midterm election.

The NRA has spent two years tracking down rumors that the Obama administration wants to impose gun and ammo bans on the public, but hasn't found anything credible. While the lead ban was viewed initially as a substantial chance for the administration to move into challenging the Second Amendment, the swift rejection by the EPA settled concerns inside NRA headquarters today.

Hey MSM, quit giving a controled front group like the NRA credit for making the EPA back off! >:(

I believe it was the People that made the EPA back off by flooding them with phone calls, emails, etc. The EPA realizes too many are awake to their BS to pull this off!

That was my first impression while reading that article.  The NRA are nothing but shills.  I gave up my membership 10 years ago because I saw right through them!

The people pushed them back--they ALWAYS do!  However, it doesn't mean they will stop trying, because we know their M.O.!

Damn straight!

NRA has already negotiated their seats on the 2012 water ships and do not give a flying crap about the constitution. Note: the 2012 crap analogy was used for satire, I am not meaning to hijack  this thread into 2012 boogie boogie boogie nonsense.
