Isn't this par for the course with Yellowstone?

Researchers report Yellowstone earthquake swarm

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo.  Add another small earthquake to the swarm of temblors that have rattled Yellowstone National Park in recent days.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck at 8:39 p.m. Monday, and it was centered 9 miles southeast of the town of West Yellowstone, Mont. No damages or injuries have been reported.

Rafael Abreu, a USGS geophysicist, says a swarm of earthquakes has hit the park in recent days, which is normal.

Jamie Farrell, a doctoral student at the University of Utah, says the swarms generally last from a few days to weeks but sometimes last for months.

The recent series of quakes started Sunday night, and Farrell says more than 200 had been counted by 9 a.m. Monday.

On Monday night, the USGS says, one person within the park had reported feeling the 3.3-magnitude quake.

Smaller earthquakes are a good thing in a seismically active area like Yellowstone. It helps to relieve the buildup of pressure.

I know what i'm a gonna say right now is way out there, and it's not something i'm thinking about but,
isn't this what a lot of people have been saying was gonna happen as we get closer to 2012.
It's not something i'm concerened about, 2012, but if we start getting more and more earthquakes as that date approaches it may be something i'll take another look at.
I'm sure we've all seen the funky 2012 documentaries on youtube with the alignment of the planets etc.
Don't bash i'm just sayin', what's wrong with that? :)

Look at the depths of the earthquakes....

The quakes are at 9-10km which is pretty much a dead give away that it is ground water seepage and steam pockets. It you see the quakes at 30-40km depth the is more likely magma making a move and could be much more interesting.... ;D

I have been following this for years.....not since last week ::)   There are 500 page threads out there from the last swarm ::)

There really needs to be expansion of the magma chamber before we are in a immediate threat. With the magma still burning off the water at 10 km we are actually safer.

If the water was allowed to get deeper because of a cooling of the rock strata and to seep in large quantities into the faults rather than fissures than with could be looking at a different scenario.

When you start seeing multiple quakes in the region in the 5.5-6.5 range then be on the move. Until then this is just par for the course, over the last 200 years that is.

Not bashing, but why would the "alignment of planets" i.e. how the planets look from earth have anything to do with earthquakes? Check out Chris White's 2012 debunked, he examines a few of the different "scientific" theories about 9/11. At least Ventura covered the least ridiculous idea (solar flares), in his 2012 episode. That being said, I think NASA hypes all sorts of speculative garbage to keep people interested and keep their funding coming in. If anything happens in 2012, it will be manmade, not because of planetary alignment or Mayan "prophecies."

Situation Update No. 2
On 22.01.2010 at 04:01 GMT+2

Nine hundred plus earthquakes and counting: that's the word from the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory. Since Sunday, there have been 901 measured earthquakes underneath Yellowstone National Park. The largest has been of magnitude 3.8. The swarm is now comparable to an earthquake swarm located in the Yellowstone Lake area a year ago. "The swarm earthquakes are likely the result of slip on pre-existing faults rather than underground movement of magma," reported the United States Geological Survey on Thursday. "Currently there is no indication of premonitory volcanic or hydrothermal activity." Two of the strongest earthquakes were measured on Wednesday night. Eight of the earthquakes have measured a magnitude of 3.0 or more. While the vast majority of the earthquakes have been too small to feel, people in and around the park have reported feeling a few of them. The earthquakes have centered near the northwest edge of the Yellowstone Caldera. The USGS believes there is nothing to indicate any serious cause for concern. Earthquake swarms have been quite common in the area since the time of the last major eruption 640,000 years ago.

It's only month one of 2010, but the weather is sure really, really, really busy to start the year. So many earthquakes in places that never have them, tornados are ripping around(which, of course, is unusual for this time of year), just to name a few. What's next? Our first hurricane comes in March, or even in Feb?

Why is it that on the   " Supervolcanoes Monitoring System list " with a VEI ( Volcanic Explosivity Index ) of 8  that yellowstone  is the only one  with a  "watch" listed on it?

Not bashing, but why would the "alignment of planets" i.e. how the planets look from earth have anything to do with earthquakes?...

If anything it may be disinfo /scaremongering put out their to make people believe it's to do with 2012 when really it's their earthquake machines, like the wizard behind the curtain is causing them but has people believe that it's to do with 2012.
Say... 2012 arrives, yellowstone blows, and the people believe it's due to the 2012 thingy.

*I've not yet seen Jesse's 2012 show*
