Twin Research Registry at SRI International Seeks Twin Pairs for Seasonal Flu Vaccine Study at Stanford University

Menlo Park, Calif.—August 4, 2009—SRI International, an independent, nonprofit research and development institute, is seeking healthy fraternal and identical twin pairs of a variety of ages to participate in a National Institutes of Health-sponsored study to develop more effective flu vaccines.

All volunteer participants will receive the licensed, approved seasonal influenza vaccine that will also be given to the public this flu season. Volunteers of the following ages are currently needed:

8-17  (with parent or guardian registration and approval)
18-30
40-49
70-100
The Stanford University School of Medicine-led research study, conducted by Mark Davis, Ph.D., professor of microbiology and immunology, and Cornelia L. Dekker, M.D., professor of pediatrics, will examine the immune system's response to immunization against influenza — commonly known as "the flu."

Researchers will also investigate markers and mechanisms that can be predictors for immunological health. The study presents researchers with an opportunity to determine how individual responses to the vaccine vary as a function of age and genetic factors.

Fraternal and identical twin pairs are a valuable resource to science, and have helped researchers identify genetic and environmental sources of variation in a number of health-related conditions. Gary Swan, Ph.D., director of SRI’s Center for Health Sciences, which includes the Twin Research Registry™ at SRI International, is partnering with the Stanford team to interpret the results of the twin pairs who receive the seasonal flu vaccine.

"Twin research studies have provided important genetic clues to a variety of health issues, from heart disease to diabetes and nicotine addiction," said Dr. Swan. "We are pleased to work together with Stanford researchers on this important study and to speak with twins about this opportunity to get a free flu vaccine and help scientists develop a better understanding of how the body responds to the vaccine at the same time."

Volunteers can join the Twin Research Registry at SRI International, a valuable science resource that reflects the diverse population of the region. The registry was established in 1995 by SRI's Center for Health Sciences, and currently includes more than 2,600 adult twin registrants. Registry members have participated in studies focusing on the pharmacokinetics of nicotine, metabolism of commonly used medications, genetic susceptibility to cancer-causing chemicals, and sleep patterns in young twins.

To volunteer or for more information, call 1-800-SRI-TWIN (1-800-774-8946) or visit www.sri.com/twin.

Any reference to experimentation on twins is tainted by the Mengele horrors.  Giving children untested, even inadequately tested vaccines qualifies as 'experimentation' by any rational interpretation.

See: World's 1st Swine Flu Vaccine Trials Start in Australia  - July 22, 2009

http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/content/view/20772/
Twins Among First Children in Swine Flu Vaccine Trial - Aug 9, 2009

BRISBANE—Brisbane twin sisters Imogen and Alexandria Steener are helping make history among the first children to be vaccinated against the latest human swine flu strain.

The Royal Brisbane Children's Hospital (RCH) has begun the first clinical trials of a H1N1 human swine flu vaccine on children in the world. The first adult study began in Adelaide on July 22.

Imogen and Alexandria's mother Karen Steener said her five-year-old girls have a history of respiratory infections, having suffered bronchitis and pneumonia.

"As soon as I heard about the trials I signed them up because they would be in the susceptible group," Ms Steener said.

"They (medical experts) know how to make flu vaccines. I'm not concerned (about side effects)." A vaccine developed by global biopharmaceutical company CSL is being used in the trial, led by RCH's epidemiologist Steve Lambert.

Dr Lambert said side effects would be minor and the trial was mainly to gauge what dose was suitable for children.
He said H1N1 vaccines have come a long way since the 1976 disaster where millions of Americans were vaccinated and hundreds came down with a rare neurodegenerative condition and some died.

"H1N1 vaccines have been given to children and adults for decades since that vaccination problem (in 1976)," Dr Lambert said.

"This vaccine is made in a slightly different way and based on our experiences on seasonal flu vaccines there should be no reason for concern."

The trial will involve up to 100 children from six-month-old babies to nine-year-olds.
Participants will be given two doses of the vaccine and undergo blood tests over six weeks. Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth will also hold child swine flu vaccine trials.

Queensland Health Minister Paul Lucas said the vaccine for adults and children could be available as early as October.

He said once a vaccine was on the market, vulnerable communities would be among the first to receive it. People in the vulnerable category include indigenous people, people with chronic diseases and respiratory conditions, obese people and pregnant women.

Meanwhile, two more Queenslanders with swine flu have died, bringing to 18 the number of deaths in the state related to the virus. A 73-year-old Sunshine Coast man and a 53-year-old Cairns woman had died in hospital, Queensland Health said in a statement. Both had complications from other diseases, the statement said. There are currently 109 people confirmed with H1N1 in the state, including 40 in intensive care. There are a further 14 probable but unconfirmed cases in intensive care.

side effects which have occurred in the days or weeks after vaccination with ordinary flu vaccines include

Say 1 million people get vaccinated 1,000,000 : UP TO 1000 people may have an allergic reaction and DIE OR BE PARALYZED.....  THOUSANDS WILL FEEL SICK AS DOGS

Like all medicines, Prepandrix can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Other side effects which have occurred in the days or weeks after vaccination with ordinary flu vaccines include:

100 people will:

Very rare (these may occur with up to 1 in 10,000 doses of the vaccine):
• Narrowing or blockage of blood vessels with kidney problems
• Temporary inflammation of the brain and nerves causing pain, weakness and paralysis that may spread across the body.

Rare (these may occur with up to 1 in 1,000 doses of the vaccine):
• Severe stabbing or throbbing pain along one or more nerves• Fits
• Low blood platelet count which can result in bleeding or bruising
• Allergic reactions leading to a dangerous decrease of blood pressure, which, if untreated, may lead to collapse, coma and death

10,000 people will:

Uncommon (these may occur with up to 1 in 100 doses of the vaccine):
• Tingling or numbness of the hands or feet
• Dizziness
• Sleepiness
• Sleeplessness
• Diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach pain, feeling sick
• Itching, rash
Generally feeling unwell

100,000 people will:

Very common (these may occur with 1 in 10 doses or more of the vaccine):
• Tiredness
• Headache
• Pain, redness, swelling or a hard lump at the injection site
• Fever
• Aching muscles, joint pain
Common (these may occur with up to 1 in 10 doses of the vaccine):
• Warmth, itching or bruising at the injection site
• Increased sweating, shivering, flu-like symptoms
• Swollen glands in the neck, armpit or groin

I think they may have Thiomersal removed now. Just to review what AS03 from GSK contains:

What Prepandrix contains:

AS03 adjuvant composed of squalene (10.68 milligrams), DL-α-tocopherol (Vitamin E) (11.86 milligrams) and polysorbate 80 (4.85 milligrams)

if there's and affect of vaccination known as VIRUS SHEDDING, no way can you ask for non-quarantined trials of such.

just like they should have (technically) closed down all flights out of Mexico as soon as they heard (if indeed it was a kosha case of infection and not some engineered global event)

Vaxine Pty, a South Australian biotechnology company, said it started tests on 300 volunteers in Adelaide on July 22 using a vaccine that’s boosted with a novel sugar-based compound. The company, based in Adelaide’s Flinders Medical Centre, has no orders yet for its experimental shot, Research Director Nikolai Petrovsky said in a telephone interview today.

There isn’t any commercial advantage to being the first maker to start human trials, as most manufacturers already have orders to supply vaccines to governments, said David Low, a health-care analyst at Deutsche Bank AG in Sydney.

“Being first is probably more of a PR coup,” Low said in a telephone interview on July 16.

CSL may record sales of A$300 million ($244 million) this year for its swine-flu vaccine, said Alexander Smith, a health- care analyst at JPMorgan Chase & Co. in Sydney.

“That sounds reasonable,” said Rachel David, a CSL spokeswoman.

Two Shots

Two shots of vaccine will probably be needed to protect people against the pandemic virus, said Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

CSL has a contract to supply 21 million doses to the Australian government and an order from the U.S. for $180 million of antigen, enough for 20 million to 40 million doses, David said. The company also has an order from Singapore, she said, declining to give details.

The company is producing the CSL425 vaccine at capacity with the current customer base, David said.

The vaccine maker will give volunteers aged 18 to 64 years two shots, three weeks apart, to determine how many doses are needed to get the right level of protection, David said.

CSL is also testing the pandemic vaccine, known as Panvax (H1N1 A/California) in Australia, in a regular and double dose to see which is more effective, she said.

Volunteer Seaton said she had no fears about the injection and any possible side effects. The A$400 she received for participating in the trial was a bonus.

“I thought, worst-case scenario, if everyone gets swine flu then I’ll be vaccinated against it,” she said.

Stanford University had on its faculty…
… a profound drug addict, a liar, a man who took a plane up at night and crashed it, killing himself, because he flew with about twenty different drugs in his system. He had “a long and well-documented history of substance addiction and abuse.”

This man was a doctor. He performed brain surgery.

In addition to cocaine and Prozac, toxicology tests by the FAA turned up opiates, mood stabilizers and anti-psychotic drugs. One of the drugs, Buprenorphine, was among those [Doyle] Borchers prescribed to patients suffering from heroin addiction… At the time of the accident, Borchers was in his second year as a clinical instructor at Stanford University School of Medicine. … [He had] a history of substance dependence and abuse for more than 10 years preceding the accident, involving the misuse of at least four different substances (including alcohol) and treatment through at least six different programs for substance-related disorders during that period.

At the time of the accident, Borchers was in his second year as a clinical instructor at Stanford University School of Medicine. He was working alongside Dr. John Adler, inventor of a device called the CyberKnife used in the treatment of brain tumors. Adler told the Bay Area News Group in August that Borchers had come to him with an idea to use the technology to treat the neurological roots of addiction.

Well they have really done a fine job of character assassination. Did they not know of the substance abuse problems prior to hiring him at Stanford? Did they find out at any point during the two years he worked there? OR did they shoot him up with drugs, then autopilot him to oblivion? This is strange to say the least.

Character Assassination? No! They KNEW he was a drug addict.... they protect their own

Gemini : A UK Twin Birth Cohort With a Focus on Early Childhood Weight Trajectories, Appetite and the Family Environment

Abstract

Gemini is a cohort study of young twins in the United Kingdom designed to assess genetic and environmental influences on early childhood weight trajectories with a focus on infant appetite and the family environment. A total of 2402 families with twins born in England and Wales between March and December 2007 agreed to participate and returned completed baseline questionnaires. The sample includes 1586 same-sex and 816 opposite-sex twins.

The study is currently funded for 5 years of follow-up, but is planned to continue into early adolescence and beyond, pending funding. With current funding of the study, families will be followed up when twins are: 8 months old (baseline), and then at 15, 20, 24, 36 and 48 months of age.

Gemini is in its early stages, with baseline and first follow-up data collection completed. This is the first twin cohort to focus on childhood weight gain with detailed and repeated measures of children's appetite, food preferences, activity behavior and parental feeding styles, alongside detailed and repeated collection of anthropometrics. This article reviews the rationale for the Gemini study, its representativeness and the main measures.

Name  Finnish Twin Cohort Study   Acronym  FTCS   Last update  01/08/2010
Affiliation  National Biobanks of Finland / KTL (The) [KTLBiobanks]

The Finnish Twin Cohort was established in 1974 to conduct studies on the contribution of genes and environment to major chronic diseases and their risk factors, with an emphasis on behavioral traits such as smoking, alcohol use, obesity, physical activity and sleep. Large scale questionnaires were conducted in 1975, 1981 and 1990, with a fourth questionnaire designed for 2010. Based on the questionnaires, numerous subsample studies with more detailed phenotyping and collection of biological samples have been carried out, with some follow-up in those studies.

Three Identical Strangers Revisits a Shadowy Scientific Conspiracy
June 29, 2018 5:00 AM
by Julia Felsenthal

?Perhaps what is so compelling about the story of reunited twins is the implicit suggestion that it could happen to anyone,? the Pulitzer Prize?winning journalist Lawrence Wright observed in his 1997 book, Twins: And What They Tell Us About Who We Are.

?It feeds the common fantasy that any one of us might have a clone, a doppelg?nger; someone who is not only a human mirror but also an ideal companion; someone who understands me perfectly, almost perfectly, because he is me, almost me. It is not just the sense of identity that excites us but the difference; the fantasy of an identical twin is a projection of ourselves living another life, finding other opportunities, choosing other careers, sleeping with other spouses. An identical twin could experience the world and come back to report about choices we might have made.?

...

Among the conclusions of one of the best-known studies of separated twins, the Minnesota Study of Twins Reared Apart: Identical siblings reared independently are roughly as similar as those reared together. Nature, in other words, makes a pretty strong case for itself.

...

Then there are the Shafran/Galland/Kellman triplets, once notorious in their own right, and now the subject of an excellent new documentary, Tim Wardle?s Sundance award-winning Three Identical Strangers.
...
They had the same face, the same body, the same mannerisms, the same birthday; were both adopted; and had both been placed with their families by the same adoption agency: New York?s Louise Wise Services, now shuttered, then a pre-eminent institution for Jewish families seeking Jewish babies. They were twins, the boys quickly surmised, reunited after 19 years apart. Their story was splashed across the newspapers.
...

He had come across an article that referenced a secret study conducted by a psychologist named Dr. Peter Neubauer in collaboration with Louise Wise Services. The agency had a policy of separating twins and other multiples for adoption (based on a recommendation from a different psychologist). Neubauer, Wright discovered, had seized the opportunity to launch the ultimate investigation into nature versus nurture: studying separated twins not, as other scientists had, only after they?d rediscovered each other, usually in adulthood, but over the course of their development as ostensibly singleton children.

The adoption agency would feed him subjects, but the whole operation depended on a cone of silence: parents could not know that their new offspring had identical siblings, nor the nature of the social experiment in which their kids were unwitting participants (nor could they know, as the documentary later suggests, that they, themselves, may have been study subjects, too). They were pressured to keep their new babies enrolled in what they were told was a standard childhood development study of adoptees, allowing them to be observed regularly by a team of visiting researchers operating under false pretenses.
...
?Despite the controversy surrounding it, the study apparently violated no rules requiring informed consent for human experimentation,? Newsday reported in 1997, shortly after the project was exposed.
...

More than half a century after the birth of the triplets, Neubauer?s methods raise serious ethical questions, including about the integrity of the junior researchers who made monthly house calls to each family, with full knowledge of the existence and close proximity of their subjects? siblings. (Wardle interviews one such research assistant, whose lack of contrition is disconcerting.)

The dark history of twin studies?favored by Nazi eugenicists and in the U.S. by those with racist policy agendas?doesn?t help, particularly given that all the children involved were Jewish (as was Neubauer, who fled his native Austria during the Second World War).

Nor does the fact that Neubauer refused to outline his specific objectives, and to this day has never published his findings. He died in 2008?his New York Times obituary omits mention of the controversial project?leaving instructions to keep his study notes under lock and key in an archive at Yale until 2065.

Precisely what he was researching, why, and what he discovered remains a mystery, even after publicity generated by the documentary resulted in the release of portions of his records. They contain no formal conclusions, and leave large swaths of text redacted, presumably to protect the privacy of other study subjects, some of whom are likely still in the dark that they were born twins.

On how the results of the study are still a secret

The records from the study are locked in a vault at Yale University. When [Neubauer] died, he left all the material to Yale on the proviso it wouldn't be released until 2066 ... by that point everyone involved in the study will be long since gone. So it's still sitting there waiting to be opened. ...
...
As part of making the film we managed to get ... the brothers some of their material. They only got photocopies, it's heavily redacted, some pages are all black ink, so it's kind of hard to piece together exactly what the study was about or what its findings were. But we did get some material. ... I might be in a wheelchair [but] I will try and get down to Yale in 2066 if I can.
