Congress passes 'Pedophile Protection Act'
Opponents worry over special 'hate crimes' treatment for homosexuals

A "hate crimes" plan that opponents have warned will be used to crack down on Christian speech, even the reading of the Bible, is poised to be signed by President Obama, a longtime proponent of the plan to give homosexuals and those with other alternative lifestyles special protections not provided other classes of citizens.

The Senate approved the "hate crimes" plan 68-29 today after Democrats strategically attached it to a "must-pass" $680 billion defense appropriations plan.

Most Republicans, although normally strong supporters of the U.S. military, opposed the plan.

"The inclusion of the controversial language of the hate crimes legislation, which is unrelated to our national defense, is deeply troubling," Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., told Fox News after the vote.

The plan also hands out federal money to states and local governments in pursuit of "preventing" hate crimes.

Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., said the move is a step toward thought crimes and suggested the bill will be a warning against those to speak out about their religious faith.

Obama was strongly supported during his 2008 presidential campaign by homosexual advocates, and has expressed a willingness to act on the proposal, calling it an "important civil rights issue."

WND reported days ago when several organizations urged their members to contact members of Congress to oppose the plan.

The plan – which creates federal protections and privileges for homosexuals and other alternative lifestyles but denies those protections to other groups of citizens – earlier was approved in the U.S. House.

When the Senate earlier approved a key move, Mathew Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, said, "In … months President Obama and the Democratic-led Congress have forced on the American people the most radical and immoral agenda.

"The administration and the Democratic-led Congress are out of touch with the mainstream. They represent the most fringe extreme elements of America. They will not be able to continue their efforts to undermine moral values, socialize the economy and trash American pride and heritage.

"The people will not remain silent forever," he said.

The House vote prompted the American Family Association to alert its constituents and create a procedure for them to send e-mails to Washington about the plan.

"In its never-ending quest to shred America's Judeo-Christian value system, the left is planning to hurriedly push through a 'thought crimes' bill," the alert said. "So-called 'hate crimes' laws are really laws that criminalize thought, because they punish an individual not for what he did but for what he thought. Politically incorrect thoughts about homosexual behavior will result in enhanced criminal sanctions under this law."

The AFA said, "Everywhere hate crimes laws have gone into effect, they have been quickly used to intimidate, silence and punish people of faith who express deeply held religious objections to the normalization of homosexuality.

"Such laws not only punish officially disapproved speech and thought, they create two tiers of victims. Under hate crimes laws, some victims get more protections than others, which violates the fundamental American principle of equality under the law," the alert said. "In fact, such laws actively discriminate against heterosexual Christians who are victims of crime, since they will get less legal protection than homosexual victims."

The American Family Association said since "sexual orientation" nowhere is defined in the law, "this law will give pedophiles, voyeurs, and exhibitionists special protections, which is why the bill has correctly been called 'The Pedophile Protection Act.'"

Also offering an online "contact Washington" process is the organization Pray in Jesus Name, founded by former U.S. Navy Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt, who was involuntarily removed from the U.S. military after he prayed "in Jesus name."

His organization submitted via fax almost 400,000 petitions to Washington opposing the "hate crimes" law.

Also, a separate larger Fed Ex campaign to warn U.S. Senate members of the dangers of the "hate crimes" plan dispatched more than 705,000 letters to senators.

The letter-writing effort was organized by WND columnist Janet Porter, who also heads the Faith2Action Christian ministry. It allowed citizens to send individually addressed letters to all 100 senators over their own "signature" for only $10.95.

Klingenschmitt said there is a remote chance Obama may not like the proposal, since it is linked to funding for an engine for the F-35 fighter jet, which he has opposed.

"If President Obama vetoes the F-35 second engine, as he promised when speaking in Phoenix last spring, he will ironically kill the homosexual agenda and their evil 'Pedophile Protection Act,'" he wrote.

Attempts by Republicans to add amendments stating "pedophilia is not protected as a sexual orientation" were blocked by House Democrats.

In fact, Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., said all alternative sexual lifestyles should be protected.

"This bill addresses our resolve to end violence based on prejudice and to guarantee that all Americans regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability or all of these 'philias' and fetishes and 'isms' that were put forward need not live in fear because of who they are. I urge my colleagues to vote in favor of this rule," he said.

Further, the proposal has a broad definition of "intimidation," so a Christian pastor's sermon could be considered 'hate speech" if heard by an individual who then acts aggressively against someone based on "sexual orientation."

The pastor, Klingenschmitt said, could be prosecuted for "conspiracy to commit a hate crime" or "inciting violence against gays" for quoting the Bible.

As it went through the House, the version was H.R. 1913, or the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009. The Senate then worked on its own version, and it ultimately was added as an amendment to a defense spending plan.

As WND reported, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder admitted a homosexual activist who is attacked following a Christian minister's sermon about homosexuality would be protected by the proposed federal law, but a minister attacked by a homosexual wouldn't be.

The revelations came from Holder's June testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which was taking comments on the proposal. The measure also was the subject of discussion on talk radio host Rush Limbaugh's July 3 show.

"This is the question," Limbaugh said. "(Sen.) Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) presents a hypothetical where a minister gives a sermon, quotes the Bible about homosexuality and is thereafter attacked … by a gay activist because of what the minister said about his religious beliefs and what Scripture says about homosexuality. Is the minister protected?"

No, said Holder.

"Well, the statute would not – would not necessarily cover that," Holder stated. "We're talking about crimes that have a historic basis. Groups who have been targeted for violence as a result of the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, that is what this statute tends – is designed to cover. We don't have the indication that the attack was motivated by a person's desire to strike at somebody who was in one of these protected groups. That would not be covered by the statute."

Continued Limbaugh, "In other words: ministers and whites are not covered by the hate crime statute because we're talking about crimes that have a historic basis, groups who have been targeted for violence as a result of their skin color, sexual orientation. So hate crimes are reserved exclusively for blacks and homosexuals. Everybody else can get to the back of the bus on this one."

The bill was nicknamed "The Pedophile Protection Act" when Rep. Steve King proposed an amendment during its trek through the U.S. House that would specify pedophiles could not use the law to protect their activities.

Majority Democrats flatly refused.

Erik Stanley, senior legal counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund, told WND the move is alarming because "this would be the very first governmental and societal disapproval of a sincerely held religious belief, held by a majority of Americans, namely that homosexual behavior is immoral.

"It's the first time the federal government is writing into law a disapproval of that belief," he said.

While he said he doesn't believe there will be "immediate" prosecutions of pastors and churches for teaching the biblical injunction that homosexual behavior is sin, "I think the effect on speech and religious speech is nonetheless real."

He said he does expect that pastors soon will begin being called to testify in "hate crime" cases in court "as to what that pastor preaches, what the church teaches, what the Bible teaches."

"When this happens, there will be a shock wave through pastorates in America," he said.

Ultimately, he warned that the homosexual advocates who have pushed the "hate crimes" plan consider this law just the first step "toward silencing Christians."

That development already has been observed not only with the enactment of "hate crimes" laws in other nations but in the "hate crime" related speech codes existing on many university campuses in the U.S., Stanley said.

In the Shadow of Leviathan: Americas' Arising Fear-Based Society

"Thought crime was not a thing that could be concealed forever.  You might dodge successfully  for awhile...but sooner or later they were bound to get you."  George Orwell, 1984

"The fact is we are witnessing an all-out drive to impose thought control that seeks to ban the  ability---the right---to think or speak for one's self.  Thinking is becoming a crime."    (Globally  Acceptable Truth and the Crime of Thinking, Tom DeWeese,  Address to the 10th Annual  Freedom 21 Conference, 10/16/09)

In an article entitled “Dems Undermine Free Speech in Hate Crimes Ploy,” the Washington Examiner exposes the insidious machinations of House statists in their determination to impose totalitarian hate crime laws upon the American people. Hate crime laws do much more than undermine free speech however, for in that what one says is the result of what first takes place in the mind,  hate crime laws are mind-control devices.

Hate crime laws are not just alien to America’s traditional Christian-based worldview, but in violent opposition to it.  They are part of a program of psycho political terrorism utilized by Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin, and the Bolsheviks after they seized control of Orthodox Christian Russia and put into practice long-term plans to abolish on a vast cultural scale every vestige of belief in the Biblical God, family, morality, private property, and other signs of "the capitalist petite Bourgeoisie."  By way of various sadistically brutal forms of behavior modification, torture, psychotropic drug experimentation, re-education, and psychological terror tactics, Russians were terrorized into submission while Bolsheviks systematically stole their property, confiscated and perverted their children,  desecrated and blasphemed churches, crucified thousands of nuns and priests, and in general, committed monstrous crimes against humanity which took the lives of sixty-million men, women, and children. For example:

“About 200,000 clergy, many crucified, scalped and otherwise tortured, were killed     during the approximately 60 years of communist rule in the former Soviet Union, a   Russian commission reported this week. In addition, another 500,000 religious figures   were persecuted and 40,000 churches destroyed in the period from 1922 to 1980, the report said. Half the country’s mosques and more than half the synagogues were also   destroyed. “Clergymen were crucified on churches’ holy gates, shot, scalped [and]   strangled,” said Alexander Yakovlev, head of the Commission for the Rehabilitation of          the Victims of Political Repression. The commission prepared the report for Russian President Boris Yeltsin. “I was especially shocked by accounts of priests turned into       columns of ice in winter,” Yakovlev said. “It was total cruelty.”             (

Former red-diaper baby David Horowitz observes that it is,

"not for nothing that George Orwell had to invent terms like 'double-think' and 'double- speak' to describe the universe totalitarians created."

Though publicly they describe themselves as scientific, forward-thinking, enlightened, and progressive, they are in reality, notes Horowitz,

"...religious fanatics who regard their opponents as sinners and miscreants and agents  of civil darkness...when they engage an opponent it is rarely to examine and refute his argument but rather to destroy the bearer of the argument and remove him from the  plan of battle."  (The Surreal World of the Progressive Left, David Horowitz,   , 1/25/2008)
Over the course of the twentieth century, progressive religious fanatics---or in Dostoevsky's words, devilish Gnostic irreligionists---murdered anywhere between 100,000,000-200,000,000  "sinners and miscreants and agents of civil darkness."

Totalitarian Bolshevism can be understood as an umbrella under which shelters Marxist-socialism, Darwinian scientism, progressivism, positivist materialism, sex-positivism, rationalism, idealism, feminism, atheism, occultism, empiricism, relativism, and nihilism.  These cancerous ideological 'isms' emerged mainly out of Enlightenment France and Germany, spawning both Marxist-socialism and Hitler’s National Socialism and today, continue to spread and secrete yet more toxic cells:  heterosexism, normativism, sexism, and ageism, among others.

Whereas twentieth century's Big Brother touted himself as positivist, materialist, atheist, and  'red,'  today's Big Brother is decidedly 'green,' says Steve Milloy in his book, "Green Hell."  Yesterdays'  ‘isms'  have reshaped themselves into yet another apocalyptic, messianic, utopian- globalism, one that is blatantly spiritual and occult, pantheistic, politically correct, and in exclusive globalist salons, brazenly Luciferian.

"Without a doubt, President Obama is a true believer in the green cause.  Viewing our       current living standards as excessive and immoral, he's determined to downsize our lifestyles---for the good of the planet...If the greens succeed, we will see their vision for our future implemented with staggering speed.   By the time you finish this book you may well be appalled by that vision, but you may also find yourself in awe of the sheer totality  of the green's agenda and their single-minded determination to achieve it."  (Green Hell, Steve Milloy, pp. 6-7)

As Fyodor Dostoevsky astutely observed, Progressive religious fanaticism is at bottom, the creature in rebellion against the Creator, His creation, immutable truths, and moral absolutes. Hence it is rebellion against the very idea of normal, says David Horowitz:

"the enemy is no longer a ruling class, a hegemonic race or even a dominant gender.    Instead it is the sexual order of nature itself. Oppression lies in the very idea of the   “normal,” the order that divides humanity into two sexes. Instead of a classless society  as the redemptive future, 'gay' theorists envisage a gender free world."  (quote from  "Are Evangelical Churches Drifting Left?" Barbara Sowell,

In sum, it is little 'g' godmen, their pride swollen to satanic proportions, usurping the throne of the Creator in order to correct His ‘mistakes.’

From Karl Marx, who declared that he would “walk triumphantly like a god” through the ruins of the old Christian-based order to today’s ‘elite’ insider transnational Progressive green-spiritual globalists, all have or are proclaiming their godhood, like Barbara Marx Hubbard for example:

“We are immortal…We can create new life forms and new worlds. We are gods!” a             revelation channeled from her spirit guide ‘Christ’ to Barbara Marx Hubbard, influential   transnational green Progressive, one of the directors of the World Future Society along with Robert McNamara and scholars from Georgetown University, George Washington University, and the University of Maryland.  (False Dawn, Lee Penn, pp. 316, 326)

Fueled by satanic pride, Bakunin—one of Karl Marx’s partners in the First International—described the emancipation of man and destruction of the old order in these words:

“The Evil One is the satanic revolt against divine authority, revolt in which we see the       fecund germ of all human emancipations, the revolution. Socialists recognize each other  by the words, “In the name of the one to whom a great wrong has been done.” Satan (is)        the eternal rebel, the first freethinker and the emancipator of worlds (he) emancipates         (and) stamps upon his brow the seal of liberty…in urging (man) to disobey and eat of the   fruit of knowledge. In this revolution we will have to awaken the Devil in the people, to   stir up the basest passions. Our mission is to destroy, not to edify. The passion of         destruction is a creative passion.”

Considered by many to be the 19th century’s greatest apocalyptic prophet, Fyodor Dostoevsky defined the conjoined ‘isms’ and their ultimate program of the “destruction of everything” as the politics of apocalypse—in other words, the politics of catastrophic death and destruction. This is made clear by Karl Marx in his poem, Human Pride:

“With disdain I will throw my gauntlet/ Full in the face of the world/ And see the collapse   of this pygmy giant/ Whose fall will not stifle my ardour/ Then will I wander godlike and    victorious/ Through the ruins of the world/ And, giving my words an active voice/ I will   feel equal to the Creator.”
In another piece Marx made his demonically-fueled hatred of the world and his death-wishing toward its’ people even more clear:

“A silent, unavoidable revolution is taking place in society, a revolution that cares as  little about the human lives it destroys as an earthquake cares about the houses it    ravages. Classes and races that are too weak to dominate the new conditions of existence   will be defeated.” (Marx and Satan, Richard Wurmbrand, p. 42)

During his commencement address at Harvard in the 1970s, Alexander Solzhenitsyn raised the alarm when  he warned that America was already tilting towards evil. Americans—specifically the ruling class and intelligentsia— have forgotten God said Solzhenitsyn, and embraced instead, scientistic-socialism….the politics of destruction.   America is on the same highway to hell taken previously by the Russians, warned Solzhenitsyn.

Also raising the alarm is Natan Sharansky, a dissident in the former Marxist-socialist Soviet Union. Sharansky describes the Soviet Union as a tyranny where,

“there were no dissidents (because) they were simply killed immediately.” Under the           terrorist-tactics of hate crime laws, speech codes, and other mind-control tactics,         everyone became double thinkers. To outside observers notes Sharansky, double thinkers   appear as true believers: “everybody says the same thing, everybody votes the same way,     everybody speaks with passion.” But it is an illusion caused by fear of speaking the truth.    These people, he noted, “live with self-censorship throughout their lives. Since the regime   demands loyalty right from childhood, many don’t even notice. They just automatically  control how they express themselves.” But when a “fear society disappears or becomes weak, people suddenly start saying what they feel,” Sharansky commented, and “It’s such  a big relief.”

To determine if a society is fear-based, Sharansky applies what he defines as the “town square test.” In this test, if you,

“can go to the center of town and publicly express your views without being punished,     you have a free society” even though that society may not be just. However, if you are      “punished for your views you live in a fear society,” said Sharansky. “In such societies    there are always three types of population: True believers, who accept the  ideology…dissidents, who take risks to speak publicly; and double thinkers, who have doubts or disagreements about the official ideology but are afraid to express them   publicly.” In conclusion, Sharansky comments that the level “of dissidence is always a  function of how tough the regime is.” (The Power of Freedom, published in The American Enterprise, Apr/May 2005, pp. 38-39)

Measured by Sharanskys' town-square test we can see that America is quickly descending into a fear-based society. As her freedom-producing Christian-based worldview fades while simultaneously replaced by  green-progressive totalitarianism, the three types of population described by Sharansky come into focus.  In general, Progressive Liberals are the true believers. Rabid zealots, brazen liars, rebels against all authority, they freely destroy, transgress, scoff, demean, blaspheme, demonize, and otherwise psychologically terrorize the large body of fearful double thinkers.

More than fifty years ago, Conservative poet and journalist Anthony Harrigan foresaw the rise of this generations' destructive true believers.  Observing that a 'process of decay' was being fostered by a modernist orthodoxy fueled by immorality, Harrigan presciently noted that:

"Modernists are determined to force acceptance of pornography as medical science, filth as artistic realism, and abnormality as a mere difference of opinion...Though the life of the country is basically decent, Americans are in the hands of a cultural ruling class, having led to destruction the humane elements in our civilization, is conducting us to   ruin."  For what cause?  To raise up a revolutionary army of "liberal-bred" barbarians  "motivated by a destructive impulse" and unchecked by "traditional values and  restraints."  (The Conservative Intellectual Movement of America, George H. Nash, p. 40)

With the 'cultural ruling class' seen as The Ministry of Truth, Orwell  describes the diabolical 'process of decay' fostered by them:

"There was a whole chain of...departments dealing with proletarian literature....Here was produced rubbishy newspapers, containing almost nothing except sport, crime, astrology, sensational five-cent novelettes, and films oozing with sex.  The rubbishy  entertainment and spurious news...was referred to as prolefeed." (1984)
Protecting and fomenting the destruction of America is a vast matrix of interconnected front groups, activist organizations, and phony civil rights defenders such as the ACLU, the most infamous terroristic enforcer of politically correct ‘true belief.’  (See matrix here:

All around the outside edges are the dissidents, for example, the Conservative blog-o-sphere, Tea Partiers, Minutemen, political leaders like Jim DeMint and Randy Forbes, and a variety of Conservative organizations and civil rights defenders such as the Alliance Defense Fund.

Supremely immoral, reeking of perversity, a  double-speaking transnational green-progressive  leviathan is moving with crushing force across our nation, fostering obscenity and blasphemy, instilling fear and confusion into the hearts of Americans and stifling individual liberty while it perverts Americas' youth, imposes mind-control and relentlessly destroys the spiritual foundations of America’s traditional Christian-based order.  Its' devilish tactics come into focus in the following examples:

1. Cultural Marxism: the politics of rebellion, perversity, and nihilism fueled by satanic  pride.

 2. Multiculturalism: the insidious destruction of America’s traditional culture by way of    elevating all other cultures in the name of politically correct tolerance.

 3. Political correctness, speech codes, and hate crime laws: a psychic-cage for the soul/mind of traditional-values Americans.

 4. ‘Gay rights/’gay’ marriage: rebellion against the idea of normal.

 5. Sex education: called ’sex pol’ by Marxist-socialists, it’s purpose is the subversion and perversion of our youth, the awakening of the Devil, as Bakunin said. (Read: The Gay-         Straight Alliance and the Quiet Revolution, nd%20the.html)

 6. Social justice: the hammering down of everything good, everything excellent,    everything normal, everything true into the perversely foul mud of demonic nothingness.

 7. Critical theory: the mindless vomiting out of the acid of destructive criticism upon         everything good, true, excellent, normal, and traditional.

 8. Redistributive Justice: the evisceration of our standard of living and individual liberties in order to 'save the planet'---in other words, death and slavery on behalf of Gaia.

9. Sustainability: Extreme population control and theft of private property to achieve the   'new' communism--communitarianism.

 10. Religious Pluralism: the erasure of America's founding Christian-based worldview by way of elevating Wicca, animism, Islam, New Age occult spirituality, Buddhism,      shamanism, and atheism in the name of politically correct tolerance and diversity.

Death of Freedom
In an article entitled, "American Capitalism Gone with a Whimper," author Stanislav Mishin notes that, "on and off for the past century," Americans have been stealthily prepared to accept totalitarianism, and with the election of Barack Obama,

"It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American descent into   Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the backdrop of a passive,         hapless sheeple..."
"The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia," notes Mishin, "and a  bloody test it was."

Who financed the bloody test?  "Wall Street," says Mishin.

In his book "The Naked Capitalist," W. Cleon Skousen exposes the unholy alliance of bankers and capitalists collectively defined as "Wall Street" by Mishin.  Skousen verifies his findings through the writings of Dr. Carroll Quigley, both a professor of history at the Foreign Service School of Georgetown University and mentor to Bill Clinton. In his opus, "Tragedy and Hope," Quigley deliberately reveals one of the worlds' best kept secrets: the existence of a gigantic leviathan of political and economic power poised to seize control of the planet.

The gargantuan power complex says Quigley, has been--right from the start---controlling Marxist-Communist-Socialist groups,

"...the power that...Left-wingers exercised was never their own power or communist power but...the power of the international financial coterie."  (p. 954, Tragedy and Hope)

Why did Quigley expose the existence of the global financial coterie?  Because he says, it is now too late for the little people to turn the tide.  He urges them to not fight the noose which is already around their necks, for they will only hang themselves.

"On the other hand, those who go along with the immense pressure which is beginning to   be felt by all humanity will eventually find themselves in a man-made millennium of         peace and prosperity."  (The Naked Capitalist, Skousen, pp. 4-6)  See funders here:

'Elite' transnational progressive Robert Muller, former Assistant Secretary-General of the UN and former Chancellor of the UN University for Peace in Costa Rica speaks of the fate that will befall the politically incorrect:

"...all those who hold contrary beliefs" to politically correct thought favored for the "next   phase of evolution" will "disappear."  A hellish fate awaits all who resist political and    spiritual globalization, "..those who criticize the UN are anti-evolutionary, blind, self-  serving people.  Their souls will be parked in a special corral of the universe for having been retarding forces, true aberrations in the evolution and ascent of humanity."  (False Dawn, Lee Penn, p. 133)

In other words, the 'chosen ones' are evolving into gods and hell awaits all 'selfish' ones who stand in the way!   "....and you will be like God..." (Genesis 31-7)

The lessons learned from the Russian experiment says Mishin,

"were taken and used properly to prepare the American populace for the surrender of         their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters."

Among the lessons applied by The Ministry of Truth to Americans,

"First the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard        education..."  then, said Mishin, "their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches,         all tens of thousands of (them) were for the most part little more than Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more than happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the 'winning' side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another."

In conclusion Mishin writes,

"The proud American will go down into his slavery without a fight, beating his chest and  proclaiming to the world, how free he really is.  The world will only snicker."  (American Capitalism Gone with a Whimper, Stanislav Mishin, Pravda.Ru)

Warnings from the Wise and the Valiant....

"... when People are universally ignorant, and debauched in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders."  --Samuel Adams,      Founding Father
"It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains." - Patrick Henry, Founding Father
"Whenever the pillars of Christianity shall be overthrown, our present republican forms of government, and all the blessings which flow from them, must fall with         them."  -- Samuel F.B. Morse, the son of educator Jedediah Morse, known as "Father  of American Geography."
"...the events of the Russian Revolution can only be understood now, at the end of the century...What emerges here is a process of universal significance.  And if I were called  upon to identify briefly the principal trait of the entire twentieth century...I would be  unable to find anything more precise and pithy than to repeat once again: Men have  forgotten God."  (Alexander Solzhenitsyn to Amerika: Godlessness, the First Step to the Gulag, from Russia with Love, Joe Clarke, Jul. 8, 2009)

 ...the Self-Sacrificially Courageous

"Death is more eligible than slavery.  A free-born people are not required by the religion    of Jesus Christ to submit to tyranny, but may make use of such power as God has given   them to recover and support their liberties..."  The men of Marlborough, Massachusetts who took part in the Boston Tea Party

....and regarding the imposition of hate crime laws, the Prophetic

"If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to   the slaughter."  ---George Washington

Re: H.R. 1913, Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009
« Reply #42 on: October 26, 2009, 06:37:59 am »
Pensioner questioned by police after complaining about gay pride march

Pauline Howe, a 67-year-old grandmother, was questioned by police after council officials decided that her complaint about a gay pride march amounted to a "hate incident".

[size=85]Pauline Howe wrote to Norwich council complaining about its decision to allow a gay rally in the city centre[/size]

Mrs Howe, a committed Christian, said she had been frightened by the officers' questioning and shocked at being informed she may have committed a crime.

"I've never been in any kind of trouble before so I was stunned to have two police officers knocking at my door," she said

"Their presence in my home made me feel threatened. It was a very unpleasant experience."

Christian campaigners condemned the police action as "alarming" and warned that freedom of expression was under threat, while the homosexual equality group Stonewall said the officers' visit had been "disproportionate".

The pensioner had written to Norwich council complaining about its decision to allow the march in the city centre in July, at which she claims she was verbally abused.

In the letter, she wrote: "It is shameful that this small, but vociferous lobby should be allowed such a display unwarranted by the minimal number of homosexuals."

Mrs Howe referred to homosexuals as "sodomites" and blamed "their perverted sexual practice" for sexually transmitting diseases as well as the "downfall of every Empire".

She argues that she is not homophobic, but was expressing her deeply held religious beliefs.

However, Bridget Buttinger, deputy chief executive at the council, replied to Mrs Howe in September, warning that she could face being charged with a criminal offence for expressing such views.

"As a local authority we have a duty along with other public bodies to eliminate discrimination of all kinds," she wrote.

"A hate incident is any incident that is perceived by the victim or any other person as being motivated by prejudice or hatred. A hate crime is any hate incident that constitutes a criminal offence.

"The content of your letter has been assessed as potentially being hate related because of the views you expressed towards people of a certain sexual orientation."

She added: "Your details and details of the content of your letter have been recorded as such and passed to the Police."

The officers from Norfolk constabulary who questioned Mrs Howe in her home told her that her opinions were regarded as a hate incident and had caused offence. However, they decided that no crime had been committed.

A spokesman for the force defended the decision to send officers to Mrs Howe's home.

"If it has come into our intelligence and been reported to us as a crime then we have to investigate," he said.

"Therefore it was part of a routine check-up. We went around and spoke to the individual.

"We talked about inappropriate comments and the effects they can have on people. We believe that this response is proportionate and the individual is aware of her actions."

Ben Summerskill, chief executive of Stonewall, criticised the police's action. "Clearly her views are pretty offensive, but nevertheless this is disproportionate. I'm glad Norfolk police didn't take it any further," he said.

Mrs Howe has sought advice from the Christian Institute, which is investigating whether the council and the police have breached Mrs Howe's rights to free speech and religious liberty under the Human Rights Act.

Mike Judge, a spokesman for the Institute, said: "Whether people agree or disagree with Mrs Howe's views, everyone who cares about freedom should be alarmed at the police action.

"For democracy to survive people must be free to express their beliefs – yes, even unpopular beliefs – to government bodies without fear of a knock at the door from the police. It's not a crime to be a Christian, but it increasingly feels like it."

In a similar case, a retired couple won damages in 2006 after being questioned by police regarding their views on homosexuality.

Wyre Borough Council regarded some of the wording in a letter of complaint as inappropriate and decided to consult with the police, who interviewed the couple but took no further action.

Here's the problem with that "pensioner" story. We have no way of knowing if this woman is in fact a real Christian from the article. Lots of people call themselves Christians but are not. Whatever the case, she didn't exactly follow sound doctrine by writing a complaint letter to the government. Jesus asks why we dont suffer ourselves to be defrauded, that we should not render evil for evil. The marchers are of the world celebrating their lusts of the flesh, and we know the world loves its own and hates Christians.

She was complaining to the wrong people. Her own Bible tells her that the world does all kinds of fleshly things, and will keep doing it right to the bitter end of this world. If she really wants to chastise anyone, she should go pay a visit to the local churches and encourage them to act in a more edifying way instead of being sellouts to the world.

Ted Pike on The Alex Jones Show:Emergency Alert!!! - Obama Will Consider Hate Bill Wednesday

U.S. Hate Law Encourages International Enforcement (18 Oct 09) We Can Defeat the Hate Bills!
America has a golden opportunity to destroy the federal hate crimes bill, attached to the defense authorization bill.   Both will soon be headed to Pres. Obama for signing. The defense/hate bill could be on Obama's desk by early next week.  Powerful Democrats, the Anti-Defamation League, and the homosexual lobby are working hard right now to persuade Obama not to keep his promise of veto.  It's up to us to work harder to make sure he fulfills it.

1. Write Pres. Obama: Email these three messages to the President immediately at
Mr. President, I will vote out Democrats at midterms if you sign the freedom-destroying federal hate crimes bill.
Mr. President, I expect you to keep your promise to veto any military authorization bill that wastes $100 billion of taxpayers' money on unnecessary F-35 jet engines.
Mr. President, I will never forgive or forget if you sign away America's sovereignty at the Copenhagen conference in December.
Send these three messages in separate emails.  You may cut and paste them in at
Or mail them to: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. 20500.
2. Also, print out and distribute widely this summer's flyer "Obama Could Veto Hate Bill!" Let everyone know of this tremendous opportunity.  We now have proof positive that a veto is not just a dream.  A veto would destroy the hate bill and insure at least a few more years of free speech.

Obama signs 'hate-crimes' bill into law

'It's a very sad day for America and for religious liberties'

A "hate crimes" bill opponents claim will be used to crack down on Christian speech, even the reading of the Bible, was signed into law today by President Obama.

The Senate approved the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act by a vote of 68-29 on Oct. 22 after Democrats strategically attached it to a "must-pass" $680 billion defense appropriations plan.

Most Republicans, although normally strong supporters of the U.S. military, opposed the bill because it hands out federal money to states and local governments in pursuit of "preventing" hate crimes. The bill creates federal protections and privileges for homosexuals and other alternative lifestyles but denies those protections to other groups of citizens.

Obama signed the 2010 National Defense Authorization Act at a White House ceremony today. Prior to signing the act into law, Obama spoke briefly of the hate crimes bill.

"After more than a decade, we've passed inclusive hate-crimes legislation to help protect our citizens from violence based on what they look like, who they love, how they pray or who they are," he said. "I promised Judy Shepard when she saw me in the Oval Office that this day would come, and I'm glad that she and her husband, Dennis, could join us for this event. I'm also honored to have the family of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy who fought so hard for this legislation. I just want you all to know how proud we are of the work that Ted did to help make this day possible."

American Family Association President Tim Wildmon warned that the new law "creates a kind of caste system in law enforcement, where the perverse thing is that people who engage in non-normative sexual behavior will have more legal protection than heterosexuals. This kind of inequality before the law is simply un-American."

Wildmon said the legislation creates possible situations where pastors may be arrested if their sermons on sexuality can be linked in even the remotest way to acts of violence.

"It threatens free speech and freedom of religion and is totally unacceptable," he said.

As WND reported, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder admitted a homosexual activist who is attacked following a Christian minister's sermon about homosexuality would be protected by the proposed federal law, but a minister attacked by a homosexual wouldn't be.

The Alliance Defense Fund blasted the "hate-crimes" bill, calling it "another nail in the coffin of the First Amendment."

"All violent crimes are hate crimes, and all crime victims deserve equal justice," ADF Senior Legal Counsel Erik Stanley said in a statement. "This law is a grave threat to the First Amendment because it provides special penalties based on what people think, feel, or believe. ADF will be on the front line to defend those whose free speech or free exercise of religion rights are violated by this unconstitutional law and to ultimately overturn this attack on freedom."

Opponents point to cases in Canada and Sweden, where Christians have faced criminal prosecution for preaching that homosexual behavior is a sin.

"ADF has clearly seen the evidence of where 'hate crimes' legislation leads when it has been tried around the world: It paves the way for the criminalization of speech that is not deemed 'politically correct,'" Stanley explained. "'Hate crimes' laws fly in the face of the underlying purpose of the First Amendment, which was designed specifically to protect unpopular speech."

Stanley said such crimes are already punishable under existing federal, state and local laws.

"Bills of this sort are designed to forward a political agenda and silence critics, not combat actual crime," he said. "The bottom line is that we do not need a law that creates second-class victims in America and that gives the government the opportunity to ignore the First Amendment."

Brad Dacus, president of Pacific Justice Institute, testified before Congress against the hate crimes bill in 2007.

"It is fundamentally unjust for the government to treat some crime victims more favorably than others, just because they are homosexual or transsexual," Dacus said. "This bill is an unnecessary federal intrusion into state law enforcement authority, and it is an unwise step toward silencing religious and moral viewpoints."

He said the adoption of hate crimes legislation has led to widespread suppression of speech deemed politically incorrect. The Pacific Justice Institute noted that in California, hate crimes laws are commonly invoked as a basis for further laws pushing acceptance of homosexuality in public schools and the workplace. The group also warned that use of "hate speech" terminology is also now being employed by minority religious groups in America to encourage suppression of free speech, as a prominent Hindu group called on Congress and major Internet service providers to shut down websites critical of Hinduism, including websites of Christian mission organizations.

The Pacific Justice Institute pledged to come to defend anyone who is prosecuted under the new hate crimes law because of their religious expression.

Liberty Counsel litigation counsel Matt Krause told WND, "It's a very sad day for America and for religious liberties in general."

He said the law will not deter crime or help the law-enforcement system.

"The only thing it will do is silence and scare Christians and religious organizations," Krause said. "It will penalize thoughts and actions, and it will not stop crime. It should be called the 'thought-crimes' bill."

He continued, "We encourage pastors and church leaders to keep doing what they're doing and preach the gospel. If they run into any barriers, they can contact us because we are ready and willing to defend them in any way we need to."

The White House announced it will host a reception this evening to commemorate the enactment of the hate crimes legislation. Obama's remarks will be aired live on the White House website.

Freedom of speech and freedom of religion  has just been abolished with the hate crime bill being signed into law.  The time for a Revolution is here but the people are deaf and blind  and shall be lead to bow down and obey authority.

It is Laws like this  that are blatantly unconstitutional  and openly abolish our rights yet the people sit and do nothing . Has the people surrendered to the Tyrant Governments control?

Political Correctness is nothing but  Control of the people.   Do not surrender , fight for your rights  as it is you who has the choice to like who you want or to dislike who you want and say what you feel without fear of reprimand.

Will certain books/novels be banned or burned  because they may incite hate crimes in certain passages, paragraphs , sentences? It will start with the human factor (US) and move to books, radio, TV movies, the BIBLE can you imagine a politicly correct BIBLE.

Just think about the end result if this law as it has no limits/boundaries.
I am a realist that is slightly conservative yet I have some republican demeanor that can turn democrat when I feel the urge to flip independant.
The truth shall set you free, if not a 45ACP round will do the trick.. HEHE

The KJV will soon be banned for all of its HATE SPEACH. Already its hard to find a true KJV in the stores. The ones they have say KJV but when you open them up and compare the text you find out they are not KJV's. This has been going on for some time now.

They are also getting harder to find in second hand shops, since the passage of the 1984 destroy all books law went into effect.

You have to ask yourself - "Where is my line in the sand?"

Will you just keep obeying the 'laws' that they keep passing?

That's basically what I've been trying to tell people for some time now. People must decide where they stand, and make that stand. Otherwise, people who don't have their best interests at heart will decide for them.

Hate crimes law - ungodly, unconstitutional, unnecessary

A Christian evangelist who was once arrested, jailed, and charged under Pennsylvania's hate crimes law says the federal hate crimes bill signed into law by President Obama is one of the most dangerous laws in the history of the United States.

With the stroke of President Obama's pen yesterday, the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act became law. It creates additional penalties for violent crimes motivated by the victim's "actual or perceived" gender, "gender identity," sexual orientation, or disability.
Michael Marcavage, director of Philadelphia-based Repent America, was one of 11 Christians who were jailed and charged with a hate crime for carrying Bible verse banners and preaching at a 2004 homosexual pride event in Philadelphia. The charges were later dismissed -- and in 2008, the state's Supreme Court ruled the law had been passed illegally by the Pennsylvania legislature.

Marcavage says the new federal hate crimes law is yet another move by the federal government to "silence Christians."
"What this bill does is [seek] to shut down those who dare to speak against the sin of homosexuality with the hope and freedom that is found in Jesus Christ," says the Christian activist.
"Having been charged under a hate crime, I'm definitely moved with compassion on those who the government is trying to silence us from reaching out to," he continues, "but we're going to continue to do as we have been doing, and ministering to those trapped in the bondage of this lifestyle."
Marcavage offers three reasons why he opposes the new law. He says it is ungodly because it "seeks to shut down the gospel of Jesus Christ"; unconstitutional because it violates the equal protection guarantee of the 14th Amendment; and also unnecessary because there are already laws on the books that punish violent crimes.

New hate crimes law is a mistake

Star Parker - Syndicated Columnist - 11/2/2009

President Barack Obama has signed into law the Hate Crimes Prevention Act. Actually, he signed into law the 2010 National Defense Authorization Act tacked onto which was the hate crimes legislation.
Sen. Harry Reid, our brave Democratic majority leader, slipped the hate crimes bill into the defense authorization bill to avoid having to have our senators consider the controversial hate crimes bill on its own.
It's for good reason that our Democratic legislators wanted to hide under a rock while passing this terrible piece of legislation. It may help them with the far left-wing of their party. But weakening and damaging our country is not something to be proud of. And that is exactly what this new hate crime law does.

The bill adds extra penalties to violent crimes when they are deemed motivated by gender, sexual orientation, or disabilities. It's the first major expansion of hate crimes legislation originally passed in 1968, targeted then to crimes aimed at race, color, religion, and national origin.
After signing this new law, Obama celebrated it by saying that in this nation we should "embrace our differences."
But law isn't about embracing our differences. It is about providing equal and non-arbitrary protection to all citizens.
Equal protection for every individual American under the law is what the 14th Amendment to our Constitution, passed after the Civil War, guarantees. That this nation takes this guarantee seriously -- that there are no classes of individuals treated differently under the law -- has been a justifiable obsession of blacks.
A society in which all life is not valued the same, where murder of one citizen is not the same as the murder of another citizen, is a horror that black Americans have known too well.
So it is a particular irony that this major expansion of the politicization of our law has been signed by our first black president.
What could it possibly mean that the penalty for the same act of violence -- for murder -- may be different depending on what might be deemed to be the motivation?
Can you imagine a football game where the penalty for roughing the passer is 20 yards rather than 15 yards if the referee concludes that the violence perpetrated was motivated because the quarterback was homosexual?
Is it not a sign of our own pathology that we now have codified that it is worse to murder a homosexual than someone who has committed adultery, even with your husband or wife, or who has slandered or robbed? Isn't the point murder?
Can we really believe that someone capable of murder is less likely to do so if the victim is a homosexual and the penalties are greater?
It should be clear that hate crime law has nothing to do with improving our law but rather with creating favored political classes. It is something that should be hateful to everyone who cares about a free society, and particularly hateful to those, such as blacks, who have been victimized by politicization of law.
How about the sad and pathetic recent murder of a 16-year-old Christian black honor student in Chicago by four teenage thugs, also black?
A hate crime?
Black on black homicides are tearing up our inner cities. Hate crimes?
The social breakdown that produces the disproportionate violence in black America is the product of the same moral relativism and politicization of law that has produced hate crime bills.
We already have a source, which instructs against murder and to love your neighbor as yourself.
But this has been banned from our schools and our public spaces.
So once again, in what is becoming our Godless nation, we mistake the disease for the cure.

Christian speech targeted as 'hate'
'Gays' pledge to 'pursue every method' of protesting flyers for school students

A campaign has been launched in Montgomery County, Md., to classify the speech of advocates for people who choose to leave the homosexual lifestyle as "hate speech," which then could be banned under a new law signed last year by President Obama.

"Hate speech is unwelcome in Montgomery County Public Schools," said an e-mail to the offices of Regina Griggs, national director of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays, known as PFOX. "I would like to ask that you immediately cease distribution of your flyers at our public schools.

"We intend to pursue every method possible to protest your actions if you choose to continue," the message warned.

The conflict was sparked by competing flyers distributed recently to public school students, one from PFOX and the other from the homosexual-rights group PFLAG, or Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.

The PFLAG flyer said if "homosexual" students can't talk to their family members, "there are still people you can talk to."

The homosexual-rights group told the students, "Some religions still condemn homosexuality, but others are completely affirming. … Metro DC PFLAG can refer you to information specific to your own religion, including local gay-friend congregations.

"People who are gay, lesbian or another minority sexual orientation are part of the normal range of humanity," the flyer said.

WND has reported on Obama's "hate crimes" plan, which was adopted by Congress after Democrats piggy-backed it onto a defense appropriations bill.

The law was targeted just days ago by a lawsuit alleging it violates the civil rights of Christians and pastors, who according to the complaint now can become the target of federal investigations, grand juries and even charges for no more than opposing the activism of homosexuals.

The lawsuit was filed by the Thomas More Law Center in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on behalf of Pastors Levon Yuille, Rene Ouellette, James Combs and Gary Glenn, the president of the American Family Association of Michigan.

In Montgomery County, the second flyer, from PFOX, explained "former homosexuals do not think something is wrong with them because they decided to fulfill their heterosexual potential by overcoming unwanted same-sex attractions."

The flyer offered resources to help with "tolerance for everyone regardless of sexual orientation" for parents and students such as event speakers, books for libraries and brochures.

It said, "No one shold be labeled based on the perception of  others. Get smart! Explore the origins of your same-sex attraction. ... The decision of a prom date, a car, or whether to super-size those fries can be based on a feeling, but important decisions should not be made on feelings alone."

One e-mail to PFOX, purportedly from a member of the county school district staff, said, "It is called freedom of speech unless it is hate-based and you people are sadly full of only that, hate."

"You say we are not being 'tolerant' of ex-gays ... and PFOX says it is not anti-gay … yet you people seem to HATE anything and everything that has to do with the way God wanted gay people," the note continued. "Separation of church and state … read the U.S. Constitution."

The note said, "You people are like the KKK but only in the form of religion … you should be ashamed of yourselves."

PFOX already has raised the issue with the district's board of directors, noting, "while distributing informative flyers to students and urging tolerance for sexual orientation, PFOX was harassed by several teachers. … "

Griggs told WND she's concerned about the attempt to define her Christian organization's speech as "hate speech," which could prompt the attention of federal prosecutors.

"What we have is people saying, 'I'm gay and I don't like what your said,'" she told WND, "'and I'm going to sue you.'"

At a pro-homosexual website called, signatures are being gathered for a letter to the district opposing the free speech of PFOX officials.

"Handing out these [flyers] to students is damaging. In the first place it tells LGBT students that they should desire to change their sexual orientation. In the second place, it reaffirms for many the stereotypes that being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender is unnatural, or something that can be easily changed or manipulated," the letter states.

"There's no place for these [flyers] in Montgomery County Public Schools, or in any public schools. I would like … a statement that your school district will pledge to institute a process whereby [flyers] that are not based on facts – in this case scientific facts about sexual orientation – won't be handed out to students," the letter said.

At the web page's forum, contributors were nearly unanimous in condemning PFOX's brochure:

People die as a result of these (ex-"gay") programs. They are a threat to public health.

This is why you cant (sic) give religious people even a nanometer because they take a friggen Astronomical Unit.

Whenever any young gay/lesbian decides to end their lives via suicide – groups like this need to know that they have blood on their hands!!

The county has one of the most comprehensive non-discrimination and anti-hate speech policies in the country. You'd think telling gay teenagers they can magically turn straight would fall under that.

Free speech does not mean that groups such as PFOX should be permitted to distribute incorrect and demeaning information like this to high school students.

There is no excuse for this. There should be an ethical policy your school can use to stop these flyers. … Telling people they can change something (sic) cannot, that uses guilt, shame, and fear, IS hate speech.
Griggs told WND her organization has watched the attacks increase since Obama took office and implemented an agenda friendly to homosexual causes.

"What it has done … we have become the targets. They feel justified. They feel protected," she said.

But she noted a Washington judge has ruled homosexuality is not immutable, so the attacks are just "unadulterated hate."

"I have never seen the likes of this," she said.

In the commentary, the author wrote, "While the school district was required in 2006 to begin distributing outside organizations' propaganda on a quarterly basis, that order did not include the propaganda of hate groups. … the MCPS does not wish to confront the obvious truth that PFOX is a hate group."

Another e-mail warned PFOX that "Hitler was a devout Christian and most Christian and evangelical religious groups are actively taking a page from his writings. … It breaks my heart that so many Christians thoughtlessly want an American version of the Taliban."

Said yet another, "I feel that telling students not to discriminate against the ex-gay community is hurtful. … The ex-gay community should be the least of anyones (sic) concerns."

Another who identified himself as a teacher in the district said, "Homophobia is the problem for gay-related issues, not being gay. … Stay out of our schools and leave our children alone!"

Richard Thompson, president of the Thomas More Law Center, said at the time the lawsuit over the "hate crimes" law was filed, "There is no legitimate law enforcement need for this federal law. Of the 1.38 million violent crimes reported in the U.S. by the FBI in 2008, only 243 were considered as motivated by the victim's sexual orientation. Moreover, [Attorney General] Eric Holder himself testified at a Senate hearing that the states are doing a fine job in this area."

He called it a "political payoff" to homosexual advocacy groups for support of Obama in the last presidential election.

"The sole purpose of this law is to criminalize the Bible and use the threat of federal prosecutions and long jail sentences to silence Christians from expressing their biblically-based religious belief that homosexual conduct is a sin. It elevates those persons who engage in deviant sexual behaviors, including pedophiles, to a special protected class of persons as a matter of federal law and policy," Thompson said.

The Hate Crimes Act was dubbed by its critics as the "Pedophile Protection Act," after an amendment to explicitly prohibit pedophiles from being protected by the act was defeated by majority Democrats. In fact, during congressional debate, supporters argued that all "philias," or alternative sexual lifestyles, should be protected.

The law was promoted by its advocates as a crackdown on "bias" crimes motivated by a person's "actual or perceived" "sexual orientation" or "gender identity."

Thomas More attorney Robert Muise noted, "This new federal law promotes two Orwellian concepts. It creates a special class of persons who are 'more equal than others' based on nothing more than deviant, sexual behavior. And it creates 'thought crimes' by criminalizing certain ideas, beliefs, and opinions, and the involvement of such ideas, beliefs, and opinions in a crime will make it deserving of federal prosecution."

Obama signed the "Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act" in October 2009 after Democrats strategically attached it to a "must-pass" $680 billion defense-appropriations bill.

The law cracks down on any acts that could be linked to criticism of homosexuality or even the "perception" of homosexuality. As Congress debated it, there were assurances it would not be used to crack down on speech.

Obama boasted of the "hate crimes" bill when he signed it into law.

"After more than a decade, we've passed inclusive hate-crimes legislation to help protect our citizens from violence based on what they look like, who they love, how they pray or who they are," he said.

The bill signed by Obama was opposed by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, which called it a "menace" to civil liberties. The commission argued the law allows federal authorities to bring charges against individuals even if they've already been cleared in a state court.

From the Great Free Land of Brittian  ::)

Christian preacher on hooligan charge after saying he believes that homosexuality is a sin

A Christian street preacher has been arrested and charged with a public-order offence after saying that homosexuality was sinful.

Dale Mcalpine was handing out leaflets to shoppers when he told a passer-by and a gay police community support officer that, as a Christian, he believed homosexuality was one of a number of sins that go against the word of God.

Mr Mcalpine said that he did not repeat his remarks on homosexuality when he preached from the top of a stepladder after his leafleting.
But he has been told that police officers are alleging they heard him making his remarks to a member of the public in a loud voice that could be overheard by others.

Mr Mcalpine, 42, who earns about £40,000 a year in the energy industry, was arrested and taken to the local police station in the back of a police van after preaching in the Cumbrian town of Workington on April 20.

After seven hours locked up in a cell, he was charged with using abusive or insulting words or behaviour contrary to the Public Order Act 1986.

Mr Mcalpine – who has delivered open-air sermons and handed out leaflets in Workington for years, and has never been in trouble with the police – said the incident was one of the worst moments of his life.

‘I felt deeply shocked and humiliated that I had been arrested in my own town and treated like a common criminal in front of people I know,’ he said.

‘My freedom was taken away on the hearsay of someone who disliked what I said, and I was charged under a law that doesn’t apply.’

He said he was not homophobic and has gay friends, but he feels compelled by his faith to urge people to abandon all types of sins so they can seek salvation.

‘If you are preaching hate and calling on people to harm others, it is right that is against the law,’ he said. ‘But I would never do that. If we have a free society, I should be allowed to preach the Gospel as generations have before me.’

Christian campaigners said last night they were alarmed that the police seemed to be using legislation originally introduced to deal with violent and abusive rioters and football hooligans to curb free speech.

Neil Addison, a barrister and expert on religious law, said: ‘People should be able to express their opinions freely as long as their conduct is reasonable. In fact, it is part of the duty of the police to protect free speech.’

Mike Judge, a spokesman for the Christian Institute, which is supporting Mr Mcalpine, said: ‘Dale is an ordinary, everyday Christian with traditional views about sexual ethics.

'Some people will agree with him, others will disagree. But it’s not for the police to arrest someone just because others may disagree with what is said.’

Mr Mcalpine’s ordeal began when he and two other Christians went to the pedestrianised shopping precinct in the centre of Workington.

He took a small stepladder and a rucksack of Christian leaflets and met full-time preacher Keith Bullock from Carlisle and a friend from his evangelical church in Workington.

Mr Bullock began speaking from the stepladder outside a mobile phone shop close to
a number of stores and coffee bars.

Mr Mcalpine said he and his church colleague handed out to passers-by leaflets explaining the Ten Commandments or offering a ‘ticket to heaven’.

He recalled: ‘It wasn’t very busy, but within about five minutes I noticed two police community support officers in fluorescent waistcoats and blue peaked caps watching from about ten feet.’

Mr Mcalpine said a woman came up to him and they became engaged in a debate about his faith, during which he says he recited a number of sins referred to in 1 Corinthians in the Bible, including blasphemy, fornication, adultery, drunkenness and homosexuality, as well as talking about repentance and salvation.

He and the woman were standing close to each other and he said he did not raise his voice.

Mr Mcalpine says that as the woman left, one of the two officers, PCSO Sam Adams, approached her and had a brief chat before walking towards him. Mr Mcalpine asked Mr Adams if everything was OK.

According to Mr Mcalpine, Mr Adams said there had been complaints and warned him that if he made racist or homophobic remarks he could be arrested. Mr Mcalpine said: ‘I told him I was not homophobic but sometimes I did say that the Bible says homosexuality is a crime against the Creator, but it was not against the law to say this.

‘The PCSO then told me he was gay and he was the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender liaison officer for the police. ‘I said, “It is still a sin”, and our conversation ended. It wasn’t a loud or aggressive conversation.’

Mr Adams has been a member of Cumbria police’s LGBT staff association and last year represented the force at the Gay Pride festival in Manchester, marching in the parade with a police dog named Whistle.

On the social networking site MySpace, he describes his orientation as gay and his religion as atheist.

Soon after midday, Mr Mcalpine took over from Mr Bullock on the stepladder and says he preached for about 20 minutes.

He said he mentioned drunkenness and adultery, and that religions such as Buddhism, Islam and even Roman Catholicism were not the way of salvation, but did not speak about homosexuality.

During the sermon he was heckled by a middle-aged man who berated his colleague Mr Bullock, asking what right he had to preach that drunkenness was wrong.

At that point Mr Adams, who Mr Mcalpine said had been talking on his radio, intervened, and the man left.

A few minutes later three regular uniformed policemen arrived and Mr Mcalpine said one asked him if he had made homophobic remarks.

Mr Mcalpine said he told the officers that while he was not homophobic, he did believe homosexuality was a sin and there was no law against saying so.

‘I knew that I hadn’t done anything wrong so I told myself to remain calm, but it was very intimidating,’ he recalled.

‘I was then arrested, read my rights and put into the back of a marked police van. When we got to the station they emptied my pockets, took my mobile and my belt and my trainers, so I was in my socks.’

Mr Mcalpine was put in a cell and asked for his Bible. ‘I read it and sang hymns like Amazing Grace as loudly as I could,’ he said.

Police took his fingerprints, a palm print, a retina scan and a DNA swab. He eventually saw the duty solicitor and was interviewed by an officer in a room equipped with a table, four chairs and a recording device.

Mr Mcalpine was told that the two PCSOs had alleged that they heard him shouting that homosexuality was a sin, which had distressed them and members of the public.
He was eventually charged under Sections 5 (1) and (6) of the Public Order Act 1986 and released on bail on the condition that he did not preach in public.

At a preliminary hearing on Friday in Workington magistrates’ court, Mr Mcalpine pleaded not guilty and he is now awaiting a trial date. The two PCSOs are expected to attend as witnesses.
Shoppers in Workington were bemused by what had happened to Mr Mcalpine.
Rob Logan, the assistant manager of the O2 mobile phone store near where Mr Mcalpine preached, said he had no complaints.

‘He hands out leaflets, he says his piece and then he leaves,’ said Mr Logan. ‘He is
not aggressive or threatening. He is gentle.’

The Rev Arthur Bentley-Taylor, 68, vicar of the Emmanuel evangelical church where Mr Mcalpine worships, said:

‘As far as I am concerned, this is about free speech. If we arrested everybody who said something we found offensive, everyone would be in prison.’

The Public Order Act 1986 has been used by the police in a number of similar cases, including that of Ben and Sharon Vogelenzang, the Christian hoteliers cleared earlier this year of insulting a Muslim guest at their Liverpool hotel.

In 2002 pensioner Harry Hammond was convicted under Section 5 of the Public Order Act. When preaching in Bournemouth, Mr Hammond held up a sign saying: ‘Stop Immorality’, ‘Stop Homosexuality’, ‘Stop Lesbianism’, ‘Jesus is Lord’.

In 2006, police arrested and charged Christian campaigner Stephen Green for handing out leaflets at a Gay Pride festival in Cardiff. The case was dropped.

Last night Cumbria police said there was no one available to comment on Mr Mcalpine’s case.

How long until Christians are blackmailed for daring to speak?

Revolutions do not always involve guillotines or mobs storming palaces. Sometimes they are made by middle-aged gentlemen in wigs, sitting in somnolent chambers of the High Court.

Sometimes they are made by police officers and bureaucrats deciding they have powers nobody knew they had, or meant them to have.

And Britain is undergoing such a revolution – quiet, step-by-step, but destined to have a mighty effect on the lives and future of us all.

The Public Order Act of 1986 was not meant to permit the arrest of Christian preachers in English towns for quoting from the Bible. But it has. The Civil Partnerships Act 2004 was not meant to force public servants to approve of homosexuality. But it has.

The Sexual Offences Act of 1967 was not meant to lead to a state of affairs where it is increasingly dangerous to say anything critical about homosexuality. But it did.

And the laws of Britain, being entirely based upon the Christian Bible, were not meant to be used by a sneering judge to declare that Christianity had no higher status in this ancient Christian civilisation than Islam, Buddhism or Hinduism.

But it has come to that this week.

How did it happen that in the course of less than 50 years we moved so rapidly from one wrong to another?

Until 1967, homosexuals could be – and were – arrested and prosecuted for their private, consenting, adult acts.

This was a cruel, bad law that should never have been made. It led to blackmail and misery of all kinds.

Those who repealed it did so out of humanity and an acceptance that we need to live in peace alongside others whose views and habits we do not share. No such generous tolerance is available from the sexual revolutionaries.

Now, as the case of Dale Macalpine shows, we are close to the point where a person can be prosecuted for saying in public that homosexual acts are wrong.

And officers of the law, once required to stay out of all controversy, get keen official endorsement when they take part in open political demonstrations in favour of homosexual equality.

We have travelled in almost no time from repression, through a brief moment of mutual tolerance, to a new repression. And at the same time, the freedom of Christians to follow their beliefs in workplaces is under aggressive attack.

Small and harmless actions, offers of prayer, the wearing of crucifixes, requests to withdraw from duties, are met with official rage and threats of dismissal, out
of all proportion.

How long before Christians are being blackmailed by work colleagues, for daring to speak their illegal views openly?

Daily the confidence of the new regime grows. The astonishing judgment of Lord Justice Laws last week, in which he pointedly snubbed Lord Carey, a former Archbishop of Canterbury, and mocked the idea that Christianity had any special place in our society, is a warning that this process has gone very deep and very far.

The frightening thing is that it has not stopped, nor is it slowing down. What cannot be said in a Workington street will soon be unsayable anywhere.

And if Christianity has officially ceased to be the basis of our law and the source of our state’s authority (a view which makes nonsense of the Coronation Service) who, and what – apart from the brute power of the manipulated mob – is to decide in future what is right, and what is not, and what can be said, and what cannot?

This process, if not halted, will lead in the end to the Thought Police and the naked rule of power.
