Toy of the year contains deadly drug fantasy
« on: November 06, 2007, 04:21:28 pm »
Two Auckland preschool children needed hospital treatment after swallowing a popular toy's "magic beads" which contain a chemical that converts into the toxic illegal drug fantasy when ingested.

The Hong Kong-manufactured craft toy Bindeez Australia's 2007 Toy Of The Year was yesterday pulled off shelves in New Zealand and Australia. Full story can be found here:

I just saw this on the news and was both shocked and disgusted.  Although the news says that the toys got recalled from the shelves a number of children needed hospital treatment because of the poor safety controls and lack of foresight foresight by this company.  :o

I find it mind boggling that these manufacturers can effectively get away with seriously harming our children's health whilst government regulatory bodies do very little to prevent this from happenning over and over again!  >:(
