I'd love to have an efficient house.

Big earth banked walls, lots of south facing windows, mirrored pipes to beam light into rooms that had no windows, solar panels, and a heatpump connected to a lake to keep the house climate warm or cool depending on season, only using electricity to pump the refrigerant.

Heating would be practically free, the solar panels would possibly give all the electricity demanded (and would suffice until someone figures out Tesla's work and makes a commercial product, without being killed and having the factory blown up) and there would be probably some tax incentives for being so "green."

Screw that, I just don't want to give a penny more than I have to to the gas and electric mans.
