Title: TRUMP vs UNITED NATIONS

The Big Question as the U.N. Gathers:
What to Make of Trump?

PETER BAKER - SEPT. 16, 2017

WASHINGTON — Every year, the president heads to New York to welcome world leaders to the United Nations General Assembly. He gives a speech and meets with an endless string of foreign potentates to discuss a dizzying array of complicated, often intractable issues.

The days are “kind of like speed dating from hell,” as one analyst put it, and the evenings are “the world’s most tedious cocktail party.” In other words, not exactly President Trump’s favored format.

But when Mr. Trump attends the first United Nations session of his presidency this coming week, all eyes will be on him as counterparts from around the globe crane their necks and slide through the crowd to snatch a handshake — and, in the process, try to figure out this most unusual of American leaders.

“The world is still trying to take the measure of this president,” said Jon B. Alterman, a senior vice president at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington and author of the speed-dating analogy. “For a number of leaders, this is going to be their first chance to see him, to judge him, to try to get on his good side.”

Quote
In some places, there has been an instinct to dismiss Mr. Trump as a bombastic, Twitter-obsessed political and diplomatic neophyte. “But the fact is you can’t write off the American president,” Mr. Alterman said.

Refuse Fascism Protesters To Demonstrate
Against Trump At U.N. General Assembly

KERRY PICKET - 09/16/2017

NEW YORK—An anti-Trump organization announced plans Saturday night
for a resistance protest against President Donald Trump when he
addresses the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday.

Refuse Fascism told its supporters in a mass e-mail:

As Donald Trump continues to threaten ‘fire and fury the likes of which the world has never seen before’ on North Korea, while standing by his comments defending white supremacists in Charlottesville, his speech to the U.N. is certain to be the speech of an absolute fascist, moving to consolidate power. This must be met with MASS resistance. Stay tuned for more details.

The e-mail adds, “In the name of humanity, we refuse to accept
a fascist America. Drive out the Trump/Pence regime!”

Refuse Fascism recently organized protests outside of UC-Berkeley, when conservative speaker Ben Shapiro delivered remarks Friday as well as protests outside of Trump Tower when the president first returned to his residence since being inaugurated into office.

Trump to Defend ‘America First,’ Emphasize
Importance of Sovereignty in U.N. Speech

ADAM SHAW - 18 Sep 2017

President Trump is expected to go global with his campaign cry of “America First” in his address to the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday, in which he will emphasize the importance of national sovereignty as the basis for mutual international cooperation, a senior White House official said Monday.

Such a speech would mark a return by Trump to the foreign policy outlook that helped him blitz the Republican presidential primaries and win the White House in November. The Trump administration has been making nods towards a more globalist foreign policy in recent weeks, with an increased presence in Afghanistan and with administration officials appearing to wobble on the U.S. exit from the Paris climate deal.

But the official told reporters Monday that his speech will not just defend “America First” but also appeal to sovereignty as the basis for good mutual international cooperation — with Trump set to promote “not a top-down model of global bureaucracy but instead the nation-state as the best vehicle for the elevation of the human condition.”

Quote
...the White House official said that Trump will use his address to lay out how “America First” does not indicate a withdrawing from international responsibilities, but is, in fact, a rational basis from which countries can then engage in international cooperation.

‘I Say it Can Happen’ —
Donald Trump Meets with Netanyahu on Israeli–Palestinian Peace

CHARLIE SPIERING - 18 Sep 2017

President Donald Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu on Monday in New York City, focusing intently on peace in the Middle East.
“We’re working very hard on it. We’ll see what happens. Historically, people say it can’t happen,” Trump said during his remarks before the meeting. “I say it can happen.”

Peace in the region was the only topic that Trump brought up in his brief remarks to reporters. When asked if he believed in a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, Trump would only say “we’ll see.”

Netanyahu agreed that peace was a goal for Israel, but pointedly mentioned the threat of Iran and the continued nuclear deal.

President Donald Trump addressed the United Nations General Assembly for the first time on Tuesday. In his speech, he focused on the threat posed by North Korea, and on Iran’s government and the Iran nuclear deal.

Trump referred to North Korean leader Kim Jung Un as “rocket man,” and described him as being on “a suicide mission for himself and for his regime.” He also threatened to “totally destroy” North Korea if the US finds itself “forced to defend itself or its allies.”

On Iran, Trump demanded that “Iran's government must stop supporting terrorists, begin serving its own people, and respect the sovereign rights of its neighbors.” He also criticized the Iran nuclear deal, calling it, characteristically, “one of the worst and most one-sided transactions” and “an embarrassment.”

Trump Blasts Socialism at UN:
‘Failed Ideology’ that Causes ‘Poverty and Misery Everywhere’

BEN KEW - 19 Sep 2017

President Donald Trump took aim at socialism and left-wing ideology during his speech at the United Nations – specifically in the context of Venezuela, a socialist state currently experiencing the worst humanitarian crisis in its history.

“The socialist Maduro regime has brought a once thriving nation to the brink of total collapse,” Trump said. “This dictatorship has inflicted terrible pain and suffering on the good people of that country. This corrupt regime destroyed a prosperous nation, by imposing a failed ideology that has produced poverty and misery everywhere it has been tried. ”

“The problem in Venezuela is not that socialism has been poorly implemented, but that socialism has been faithfully implemented,” Trump continued. “From the Soviet Union to Cuba to Venezuela, wherever true socialism or Communism has been adopted it has delivered anguish and devastation and failure. Those who preach the tenants of these discredited ideologies only contribute to the continued suffering of the people living under these cruel systems.”

Trump’s UN Speech Draws Resounding Praise
'...the American President should represent America...'
Martin Walsh - September 19, 2017

Following President Donald Trump’s address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, the first of his presidency, many are crediting Trump with giving the speech of a lifetime.

In his speech, Trump criticized the North Korean and Iranian regimes, and also referred to his “America First” policy, arguing it could serve as a tool to strengthen nations across the world.

“As president of the United States, I will always put America first. Just like you, as the leaders of your countries, will always and should always put your countries first.,” Trump said.

Quote
“The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea,” Trump said. “Rocket man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime.”

Mark Levin: “President Trump’s UN speech was outstanding.”

Benjamin Netanyahu:"In over 30 years in my experience w/ the UN I never heard a
   bolder or more courageous speech."

Nigel Farage: “Trump’s UK approval ratings will go up significantly after this UN speech.”

Mike Huckabee: “This was the president of the United States acting like the president of the
United States and not someone who is coming in to beg forgiveness for who we are.”

Mitt Romney: “President Trump gave a strong and needed challenge to UN members to live
up to its charter and to confront global challenges.”

Katie Pavlich: “Trump calls out the UN for having notorious human rights abusers sitting on
   the UN Human Rights Council."

Peter King: “Masterful speech by @POTUS Trump at UN. Proud of American values.
No apologies. No retreat. God Bless America!”

Newt Gingrich: “Pres Trump in UN speech put intellectual clarity on his principle that
the American President should represent America not global system.”

Bill Mitchell: “You’ve gotta love Trump’s no-nonsense speech to the UN today. I don’t
recall ever hearing a US President speak so clearly.”

“This Assembly Does Not Have The Power”:
United Nations SLAMMED, Resolution Passed

Georgette Walrath | Nov 2, 2017

United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley blasted the General Assembly for trying to dictate American foreign policy. A resolution condemning the United States economic embargo against Cuba passed by a 191-2 vote, with only Israel voting with Haley against the measure.

Haley explained to Muslim and communist sympathizers that the American people had chosen a new president and a new path, and she would vote against any resolution that called for the lifting of the embargo “as long as the proceeds from trade with Cuba go to prop up the dictatorial regime responsible for denying [the people’s] rights.”

She also, quite boldly, told the assembly that they have absolutely no power over the United States, and the “political theater” was a waste of time.

Quote
“Let’s be honest about what we really see going on here,” Haley said. “This assembly does not have the power to end the U.S. embargo. It is based in U.S. law, which only the United States Congress can change.”

Nikki Haley Drops Bomb:
United States Will Leave UN
Council If They Don’t Stop

November 10, 2017

Kirsters Baish| Nikki Haley has been making Americans proud with her conduct at the United Nations. Ever since President Trump appointed her as our ambassador she has been doing her best to represent our country. When she first arrived, she had a lot of work to do trying to fix the problems that Obama had left behind.

I can’t even list all of the U.N. disappointments that took place during Obama’s eight-year reign. By far, the most egregious thing that happened was when Obama made a move against Israel on his way out of office.

Quote
.... This is exactly the kind of crap Nikki Haley was sent to the U.N. to amend. She has been kicking some serious butt so far. She actually recently made one of the bravest announcements that we will see from a United States ambassador to the United Nations. She warned the U.N. that our country would willingly leave the Human Rights Council if things don’t change when it comes to treating Israel properly.

Nikki Haley Lays Down Law To UN On Anti-US Jerusalem Vote
SAAGAR ENJETI - 12/20/2017

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley delivered a stark message to nations considering a vote to urge the U.S. not to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, Foreign Policy reports.

Quote
The UN General Assembly will vote Thursday on the resolution, prompting intense backlash from the U.S. delegation. “The President will be watching this vote carefully and has requested I report back on those countries who voted against us. We will take note of each and every vote on this issue,” Haley told other member nations in an email, adding, “as you consider your vote, I want you to know that the President and U.S. take this vote personally.”

Haley echoed the message in a tweet late Tuesday,
saying, “the US will be taking names” during the Thursday vote.

“If the movement of an American Embassy that was signaled more than 20 years ago is enough to scuttle peace talks, then maybe the basis for peace doesn’t yet exist,” the Wall Street Journal editorial board poignantly observed.

Why does the US support such a corrupt, socialist body that has long strayed from its purpose? UN peacekeepers have been caught in atrocious acts against humanity, and yet they say they help people? Something needs to change in this body, or the US needs to pull their money and leave.

Eg -- Please explain how being a supporter of Trump, is being a "Zionest" or "Neocon."  I am supportive of Trump due to his fruits.  He is doing the right thing in getting rid of terrorism (is terrorism a socialist tactic?).  He is also doing the right thing in officially recognizing Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel.  If not -- how come?

Truthfully, I'm hoping that once America is on its true feet (prior to socialist-type takeover) and back to hopefully what America was more of in the past, that other countries around the world will want to follow suit.  Seems to be quite a backlash around the world, throwing off globalism, as it is.  So, this is hopeful.  Is Europe pro or against the changes that globalism is bringing?  When I last visited England, everyone told me they would never accept the euro, or become a part of the EU!

Sounds good to me!  Cut off their aid!
The leaders just lead a life of luxury on our "aid" money.
It does not go to the People, which is always the excuse for giving it, anyway.

oh yeah.  Cut off their "aid" and get the budget balanced.  Maybe we should pull out our troops, too.  Close down those expensive drug-runner-operation bases!

Is there a list of those 128 countries who opposed Trump?  I'd check them out for what they do/don't do with their financial aid.  And, check out too, how many military bases are in those countries.

To answer your question completely would take all day...
Just imagine how differently Ron Paul would have done things, if he had become president instead of Trump, (Ron Paul has been a lifetime critic of neo-conservativism)

A quick list :

Neocons call for an aggressive foreign policy.
Neocons always support Israel.
Neocons always think America needs higher military spending.
Neocons support cutting the size of federal agencies to increase spending for the military.

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar called on Thursday for a "day of blood" in the West Bank, following the UN General Assembly vote on a resolution slamming US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The statement appeared to be an escalation of sorts because up until now Hamas had called for "days of rage," which so far have manifested in widespread protests and riots across the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Dictatorships scold America for 'violations of human rights'

Prior to the United Nations General Assembly vote to declare President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel “null and void,” the representatives of some of the world’s most egregious violators of human rights stood behind the podium, one after the other, to condemn the U.S. and the Jewish state.

CNN’s Jake Tapper pointed out after the vote, citing the independent monitor U.N. Watch, that of 97 resolutions issued by the U.N. General Assembly between 2010 and 2015, 83 were condemnations of Israel.

image: http://www.wnd.com/files/2017/12/un-al-maliki-300x145.jpg

“You have to ask, is Israel truly deserving of 86 percent of the world’s condemnation? Or possibly, is something else afoot at the United Nations?”

Citing nations that condemned the U.S. before the U.N. vote Thursday, Tapper pointed to “the genocide of the Rohingya people in Myanmar, the lack of basic human rights in North Korea, the children starving in the streets of Venezuela, the citizens of Syria targeted for murder by their own leader using the most grotesque and painful of weapons.”

“The U.S. imperils global peace, says the representative of Venezuela — a country in a humanitarian disaster,” Tapper said. “With violence in the streets, an economy in complete collapse, citizens malnourished, dying children being turned away from hospitals, starving families joining street gangs to scrounge for food. On what moral platform does the government of Venezuela stand today?”

Tapper said “listening to these countries, including North Korea, and Myanmar, and Turkey, and China, lecturing the United States in any way about human rights and peace might seem a bit much.”

Quote
Venezuela: The ambassador from the failing and increasingly autocratic socialist state, Samuel Moncada Acosta, said he was “deeply alarmed” by what he described as “ongoing violations perpetrated by Israel,” including “attempts aimed to alter the character, status and demographic composition of the city of Jerusalem.”

“Generations of Palestinians are been subject to systematic violence and discrimination,” he said, and “today we will speak up for justice and peace.”

Responding to Haley’s warning of consequences, the minister said the General Assembly would not bow to such “bullying” by the U.S. and insisted it was unethical to think that the votes and dignity of member states were for sale.

... announced on XMAS EVE night:

Nikki Haley Announces $285 Million Reduction to U.N. Funding
BREITBART NEWS - 25 Dec 2017

Nikki Haley, United States Ambassador to the United Nations (U.N.), announced Sunday night that the federal government has reduced its contribution to the U.N.’s annual budget by 285 million dollars.
The Christmas Eve statement reads in full:

Today, the United Nations agreed on a budget for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. ‎Among a host of other successes, the United States negotiated a reduction of over $285 million off the 2016-2017 final budget. In addition to these significant cost savings, we reduced the UN’s bloated management and support functions, bolstered support for key U.S. priorities throughout the world, and instilled more discipline and accountability throughout the UN system.

“The inefficiency and overspending of the United Nations are well known. We will no longer let the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of or remain unchecked. This historic reduction in spending – in addition to many other moves toward a more efficient and accountable UN – is a big step in the right direction. While we are pleased with the results of this year’s budget negotiations, you can be sure we’ll continue to look at ways to increase the UN’s efficiency‎ while protecting our interests,” said Ambassador Haley.

Haley’s statement comes after the U.N. voted to condemn the United States for President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The resolution, backed by nations with long records of extreme human rights abuses, passed 128-9 last Thursday. Haley immediately responded by threatening to reduce America’s U.N. funding.

The United States government has claimed to have negotiated a significant cut to the United Nations budget.

The US Mission to the UN said the 2018-2019 budget would be slashed by over $285m (£213m) and reductions would also be made to the UN's management and support functions.

But the announcement did not make clear what effect the budget reduction will have on the US contribution.
/...
Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the UN, said the "inefficiency and overspending" of the organisation is well-known.

...

It comes after Donald Trump threatened to cut off aid to any country that voted against his decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital Israel in the UN.

"Let them vote against us," the US President said. "We'll save a lot. We don't care."

Ms Haley sent letters to over 180 countries warning them Washington would be taking the names of those who voted against the US.
...
The Trump administration made it clear the vote would have no effect on its plan to move the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

As WND reported, the State Department announced Tuesday it is withholding $65 million the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, UNWRA, warning any additional U.S. donations would depend on changes in how the agency operates and is funded. In 2016, the U.S. donated $355 million to UNWRA.

The $45 million allotment was meant for food aid as part of the UNRWA’s West Bank/Gaza Emergency Appeal.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert explained to reporters Thursday that the $45 million was not a guarantee.

“At this time, we will not be providing that, but that does not mean — I want to make it clear — that does not mean that it will not be provided in the future,” Nauert said.

"... noted Islam expert Robert Spencer, director of Jihad Watch, contended the move “is not about cutting food money, contrary to the lies of Husam Zumlot and others.”

“The UNRWA has multiple links to jihad terror. It is a viciously corrupt and dishonest organization, bent on enabling the jihad against Israel and willing to lie brazenly in the process. Every penny of U.S. aid should be withheld from the UNRWA, permanently,” he said.

..... “It is time for this absurdity to end and for humanitarian funds to be directed towards their intended purpose: the welfare of refugees,” Danon said in a statement. Israel accuses the U.N. agency of aiding and abetting Palestinian terrorism and asserts UNRWA’s staff betray bias against Israel. State Department spokeswoman Nauert said other nations need to share some of the financial burden.

“We don’t believe that taking care of other nations and other people
have to be solely the United States’ responsibility,” she said.
