Title: TRUMPLAND MOVES AGAINST SANCTUARY CITIES
Post by: Jackson Holly on November 18, 2016, 12:36:20 pm
... it is about time these law-breaking cities
(and States) get what's comin'.

Anti-Sanctuary City Bill Filed by Texas State Senator
BOB PRICE.  16 Nov 2016

A Texas state senator has filed a bill to “eliminate Sanctuary Cities in the State of Texas.” The bill will require local governments and law enforcement agencies uphold current immigration laws.
The filing of SB 4 by Senator Charles Perry (R-Lubbock) on Tuesday follows the announcement by Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick that ending sanctuary cities in Texas would be a priority for the 85th Legislative Session which begins in January 2017.

“No city in Texas should be allowed to ignore the law,” Governor Patrick stated. “We will end this practice once and for all this session.”

“By electing a Republican president and Republican majorities in Congress, the American people made it clear that solving our illegal immigration crisis must be a priority,” Senator Charles Perry said in a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas. “That starts by eliminating sanctuary cities, securing our border, and enforcing the immigration laws we currently have on the books. We cannot sit idly by and allow local policies to undercut efforts made at the federal and state level.”

Quote
“Banning sanctuary city policies will help prevent criminal aliens from being put back on our streets,” continued Perry. “I have no doubt that with the help of my colleagues in the Texas Legislature, we will pass this bill.”

Sanctuary City Migrants Protest Trump Nationwide
JOHN BINDER. 15 Jan 2017

Pro-illegal immigrant groups across the country protested in major sanctuary city hubs to decry President-Elect Donald Trump’s upcoming Inauguration Ceremony. The sanctuary cities carry out policies to shield illegal immigrants from federal immigration law enforcement officials.

Protesters holding signs reading “Immigrant Rights = Workers Rights = Human Rights” and “No Muslim Registry,” marched in cities such as Los Angeles, California, Chicago, Illinois and San Jose, as the Associated Press reported, all of which have existing sanctuary city policies in place.

Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) told a crowd at an anti-Trump protest in Washington D.C., “We are not going to allow Donald Trump to bury the Statue of Liberty.”

Quote
President-elect Trump has threatened to not only defund sanctuary cities. The Department of Justice (DOJ) could also seek legal action against these cities for failing to comply with federal immigration law.

No Such Thing as Sanctuary Cities?
'Factor' Guests Clash on Illegal Immigration

1/13/'17

During a town hall event last night, House Speaker Paul Ryan was asked about illegal immigration, and he seemed to deviate from President-elect Donald Trump's platform.

Ryan agreed with Trump that sanctuary cities violate the law and they should not receive federal assistance.

As for the deportation of illegal immigrants, however, Ryan said, "It’s not happening."

Katrina Pierson, former spokesperson for Trump, and immigration attorney Francisco Hernandez discussed Ryan's comments on "The O'Reilly Factor" tonight, and things got pretty heated.

The very idea of a "sanctuary city" is traitorous.    If nothing else, it divides and creates separateness.  It should not be funded and I want my money back that has been paid on this outrageous idea.

Battle Over ‘Sanctuary Campuses,’ In-State
Tuition to DREAMERs Heats Up

LANA SHADWICK. 22 Jan 2017

Universities and colleges have reacted to President Donald Trump’s election by declaring their campuses safe zones from immigration authorities. The funding battle over sanctuary cities and other jurisdictions has intensified and expanded to “sanctuary campuses.”

Representatives in the U.S. Congress are fighting back, and state governments are gearing up for fights. After the President’s election in November, colleges and universities started declaring their educational institutions to be “sanctuary campuses” and “safe spaces” for illegal aliens, and they have been issuing resolutions that would actually prohibit campus police from cooperating with Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Students at Sanford University in November were one of the first to march and demand that the university be used as a shelter for illegal aliens facing deportation, reported Breitbart News.

Breitbart Texas reported on January 3rd that Representative Andy Harris (R-MD) introduced the “Federal Immigration Law Compliance Act of 2016” (FILCA). He did so along with co-sponsors “from California to New York, to Florida,” according to his website.

Harris’ bill prohibits any entity from receiving federal funding that “does not comply with a lawful request for information or detainment of an alien made by an officer or employee of the Federal government who is charged with enforcement of the immigration laws from receiving additional funding.”

UC BERKELEY Poll:
74 Percent of Californians Want to End Sanctuary Cities

JOHN BINDER. 23 Jan 2017

The vast majority of residents living in California would like to see sanctuary cities barred, a state home to multiple jurisdictions which refuse to abide by federal immigration laws.

Roughly 74 percent of California residents want to see an end to sanctuary city policies, according to a poll by UC Berkeley.

The issue to end sanctuary cities in the state crosses racial and party lines, with 65 percent of Hispanics registering their agreement, while 70 percent of independents, 82 percent of Republicans, and 73 percent of Democrats feel the same.

During President Donald Trump’s term, sanctuary cities could see a cut in federal funding and pushback from the Department of Justice under likely Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Texas to Sanctuary Sheriff:
Reverse Course or Lose Funds

BOB PRICE. - 23 Jan 2017

Texas Governor Greg Abbott moved quickly against the Travis County Sheriff who announced late last week that she would be changing her department’s policy on cooperating with federal immigration officials.

“As Sheriff your primary duty is to ensure the safety of the residents of Travis County,” Abbott wrote in a letter to Sheriff Sally Hernandez. “However, your recent policy directive forbidding Travis County Sherriff’s Office (TCSO) employees from cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) (except in the most limited of circumstances) betrays your oath and the residents of Travis County. I strongly urge you to reverse that policy before its effective date of February 1, 2017.”

Rather, Texas must enact tough penalties that punish those who would put themselves above the law—and even above the community they purportedly serve.”

If Trump Goes Through With Threat, DC Could Lose
$1 Billion For Defiantly Remaining A Sanctuary City

JONAH BENNETT - 01/27/2017

The District of Columbia could lose $1 billion in federal funding
if it defies President Donald Trump and stubbornly remains a sanctuary city.

Jen Budoff, budget director for the D.C. City Council, tweeted out Wednesday that Washington, D.C., receives more than $1 billion in federal money every year allocated to art grants, refugee resettlement and senior nutrition, among other items.

All of those funds and programs could be in jeopardy if D.C. continues its policy of being a sanctuary city. And D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser reaffirmed her intention Wednesday evening to do just that.

To combat the legitimacy of sanctuary cities, the Trump administration intends to issue a list every single week of all the crimes committed by illegals in those cities, based on an executive order signed Wednesday. These cities have blocked federal authorities from deporting more than 17,000 illegals, who have committed various crimes.

Here Are 2.3 Billion Reasons Why Sanctuary Cities Are So Upset At Trump
Tyler Durden - Jan 25, 2017

While we are sure Mayors de Blasio (New York), Emanuel (Chicago), and Garcetti (LA) are compassionate men who want nothing more than to ensure the safety of illegal immigrants in their cities, we couldn't help but notice that, following Trump's decision to defund so-called Sanctuary cities, the sound and fury spewing forth from various municipalities today was perfectly correlated with the size of taxpayer-money they received from Obama.

Not smiling today...

As Reuters reports, U.S. President Donald Trump's attempt to strip municipalities of federal dollars for shielding illegal immigrants threatens $2.27 billion in annual funds for the nation's ten largest cities, a Reuters analysis of federal grants found. While Trump has the authority to cut some kinds of funding to the cities, cuts to other federal funding would require an act of Congress. The total amount remains unclear, as federal money can be filtered through state governments or granted directly to social-service organizations or other groups. The numbers do not include federal money for law enforcement, which was excluded in the executive order, and programs like Medicaid, which are administered by state governments.

Over 300 Sanctuary Cities Are Costing State and
Local Taxpayers over $7,000,000,000 Annually

TOM TANCREDO - 28 Jan 2017

President Trump this week signed an executive order declaring war on so-called sanctuary cities. Agencies within the United States Government will begin withholding federal grant funds from those cities, and additional actions to enforce federal immigration law will be taken soon.

Unlike Obama, President Trump is not trying to making new laws by executive decree. In his Executive Order, the president is only reminding mayors and governors of existing federal law dating to 1996:

U.S. Code › Title 8 › Chapter 12 › Subchapter II › Part IX › § 1373
8 U.S. Code § 1373 – Communication between government agencies and the Immigration and Naturalization Service:

Notwithstanding any other provision of Federal, State, or local law, a Federal, State, or local government entity or official may not prohibit, or in any way restrict, any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.
(b) Additional authority of government entitiesNotwithstanding any other provision of Federal, State, or local law, no person or agency may prohibit, or in any way restrict, a Federal, State, or local government entity from doing any of the following with respect to information regarding the immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual:
(1) Sending such information to, or requesting or receiving such information from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
(2) Maintaining such information.
(3) Exchanging such information with any other Federal, State, or local government entity.
(c) Obligation to respond to inquiries
The Immigration and Naturalization Service shall respond to an inquiry by a Federal, State, or local government agency, seeking to verify or ascertain the citizenship or immigration status of any individual within the jurisdiction of the agency for any purpose authorized by law, by providing the requested verification or status information.

Citizens should hold local officials accountable when they refuse to obey the law. High Court Precedent May Limit Trump’s ‘Sanctuary City’ Order
Supreme Court has ruled Constitution forbids federal government from using funds to ‘coerce’ states
JOE PALAZZOLO - Jan. 29, 2017

A thicket of U.S. Supreme Court rulings could limit the reach of the executive order issued by President Donald Trump last week meant to prod “sanctuary cities” into helping the federal government enforce immigration law.

Some local and state officials, including in New York, have promised to fight the order, which says cities that fail to turn over information about illegal immigrants “are not eligible to receive federal grants.”

Legal experts said the Supreme Court has given them many tools for resistance.

The court has ruled that the U.S. Constitution bars the federal government from commandeering state officials or using federal funds to “coerce” states into doing the bidding of Washington.

Quote
Other experts, however, said Mr. Trump’s order bypasses trip wires set down by the Supreme Court, because it demands only information from cities in return for federal money, not action ... “it’s not telling city officials to carry out any particular actions.”

Texas Governor Deprives Sanctuary County Of $1.5 Million Grant
RACHEL STOLTZFOOS -  02/01/2017

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott cut off state funds to a county that provides sanctuary to illegal immigrants Wednesday, following through on an earlier pledge to punish such sanctuary cities and localities.

Travis County will no longer have access to $1.8 million in state criminal justice grants, Abbott announced in a letter to county officials, because of a new sanctuary policy implemented by the county sheriff. The policy at issue instructs staff at the sheriff’s department to release illegal immigrants booked in the local jail rather than assist the federal government in deporting them, unless they have been charged with murder, aggravated sexual assault or human smuggling.

“Stiffer penalties coming soon,”
Abbott added in a tweet Wednesday.

A Texas police officer is under fire after posting an unauthorized video telling undocumented immigrants in his city that his department has not enforced immigration laws “for many, many years.”

Fort Worth Officer Daniel Segura posted a nearly 6-minute video on his Facebook page Wednesday morning, hoping to calm fears in the local Hispanic community following President Donald Trump’s executive orders on immigration and the national debate over “sanctuary cities.”

Quote
He said his fellow police officers “don’t care” about a person’s immigration status and that they have the “same rights as anyone else who lives in Fort Worth.”

“We are going to defend you. We are going to protect you,” Segura said in Spanish.

It was Segura's talk about the enforcement of federal immigration laws that got him in the most trouble.

“In the City of Fort Worth for many, many years, we have not enforced immigration laws. We are not federal officials that can enforce federal immigration laws. I want to make that very, very clear,” he said. “We, in Fort Worth, do not execute or enforce laws on immigration so that people that live in Fort Worth do not have the fear that we can possibly deport them. That is not true.”

.... In a subsequent comment on the video, Segura later clarified that Fort Worth is not a sanctuary city. The department said Segura would not face any disciplinary action because of his video, however.

Texas Sheriff Releases 39 Criminal Aliens in
First Two Days of Sanctuary Policy

BOB PRICE - 4 Feb 2017

Despite the loss of state law enforcement grants, Travis County
Sheriff Sally Hernandez followed through and released 39 criminal
aliens during the first two days of her sanctuary policy.

Records obtained by Breitbart Texas from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office revealed that “Sanctuary Sally” released 37 criminal aliens from custody on February 1. Two more criminal aliens were released on the following day. The sheriff’s office stated that Sheriff Hernandez declined 191 immigration detainers that were received by her office before February 1. Eight more immigration detainers received after February 1 were also declined. The sheriff also declined four requests from immigration officials to be notified of the pending release of the criminal aliens in her custody.

Sheriff Hernandez did not refuse all requests from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. Thirty immigration detainers that were received by her office before the February 1 change in policy were honored by the office. The sheriff accepted three immigration detainers that were received after her policy went into effect on February 1. She also accepted two requests for notification of pending release.

Quote
Texas Governor Greg Abbott responded to the lawless actions of the Travis County sheriff Tweeting, “This is why I declared banning sanctuary cities an emergency. Texas will hammer Travis County.”

ICE Raid in Austin?
Federal immigration agency rumored to be in town for roundup
MARY TUMA THU. FEB. 2, 2017

Immigration attorneys and activists around the city expressed concerns
today (Feb. 2) about the potential of an “active” U.S. Immigration and
Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in Travis County.

The threat of increased enforcement follows an immigration ban executive order issued last Friday by President Donald Trump and growing tensions over discordant “sanctuary city” policies between Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Hernandez pledged to not comply with noncriminal ICE requests, with some exceptions, a policy that went into effect on Wednesday, Feb. 1. In a vindictive display of political payback, Abbott cut off funding of a $1.5 million criminal justice grant to Travis County.

According to the Immigrant Services Network of Austin, which published a news bulletin on Wednesday about the rumored raid, ICE has reportedly deployed four teams of five to 10 officers in Travis County. The federal agency is allegedly lodging detainers for any foreign-born individual in a county jail, and are detaining and arresting people who have criminal warrants or outstanding orders of removal. (DACA, deferred action, pending U visas, and stays of removal aren’t being targeted at this point, though that could change.) “Be careful,” warned the local network.

Quote
ISN Austin is moving forward with the expectation of ICE’s presence, and has directed those affected to resources and fact sheets from United We Dream and the National Immigration Law Center, as well as a deportation crisis hotline (512-270-1515). The fact sheets remind those concerned about immigration enforcement to not open your doors (ICE cannot enter without a signed warrant from a criminal court judge) or sign anything ICE gives you without talking to an attorney first.

Lopez allegedly raped a woman in a car while her toddler was in the back seat, KXAN Austin reported Friday.

According to the affidavit, Lopez asked a woman he knew to drop him off at an unknown location nearly three weeks ago. Lopez allegedly threatened the woman’s life if she didn’t have sex with him, and when she said that her toddler was in the car, he replied, “I don’t give a damn.”

Following news about criminal aliens being arrested in Austin, Texas, by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, Breitbart Texas reached out to the local ICE spokesperson to learn if the arrests were part of an ongoing operation. While the ICE spokesperson would not confirm or deny the operation, U.S. Representative Joaquin Castro confirmed the arrests underway in Austin and throughout South and Central Texas are part of Operation Crosscheck.

More than 2,000 criminal aliens were rounded up during Operation Crosscheck in 2015. 1,000 of the captured criminal aliens were targeted because they had felony convictions. Those range from voluntary manslaughter, child pornography, robbery, kidnapping and rape. Fifty-eight of those captured were known gang members, while eighty-nine were convicted sex offenders.

Sanctuary cities cave in face of Trump's funding threats

Elizabeth Llorente - February 10, 2017

Several towns, cities and counties around the nation are caving to President Trump's threat to pull funding, and abandoning their "sanctuary" pledges to shield illegal immigrants from federal authorities.

Dayton, Ohio, dropped a policy that restricted the city’s cooperation with immigration officials pursuing illegal immigrants arrested for misdemeanors or felony property crimes, according to the Dayton Daily News. Police Chief Richard Biehl said federal authorities will no longer be impeded by the city when pursuing illegal immigrants being held by his department.

Other communities that have dropped policies of shielding illegal immigrant suspects from Immigration and Customs Enforcement include Miami-Dade and Dayton, are Saratoga, N.Y., Finney County, Kan., and Bedford, Penn., according to The Center for Immigration Studies, which keeps a list of sanctuary communities.

The "sanctuary" term describes cities that employ a range of uncooperation with federal immigration authorities. Some refuse to hold suspects and even convicts who have completed their sentences for the feds to deport.

Mehlman told Fox News. “Faced with the possibility of losing federal dollars, they’ll choose to keep funding public services rather than protecting illegal aliens.”

New York Mayor Hides 500,000 Illegals,
Vows to Ignore Immigration Laws

MONA SALAMA - 5 Mar 2017

The NYPD won’t cooperate with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement
agents seeking to repatriate illegal immigrants, Mayor Bill de Blasio
told RTVi, or Russian Television International.

“The NYPD will not participate as immigration enforcement agents because we have, for decades, built a close working relationship with immigrant communities,” de Blasio said. “Our police force is not going to be out there knocking on people’s door and it is not going to share information about people’s documentation status with the federal authorities.”

According to de Blasio, who faces reelection in November, more than half a million people in New York are “undocumented” and a “vast majority don’t commit any crimes whatsoever.”

"Since President Donald Trump was inaugurated,
de Blasio has vowed to oppose any executive
order regarding illegal immigration."

I would like to see it be a federal criminal offense for politicians, government authorities, or individuals to knowingly harbor illegal aliens.  “Punishment” for the cities in the form of fines really doesn’t mean anything to the folks who are implementing “sanctuary city” policies.  Fines do though mean that those of us who object to such policies get our taxes raised, or services cut, for something we objected to anyway.

Take a look at the crime statistics for just one state, Texas. A 2017 report by the Texas Department of Public Safety reveals that over the period from June 1, 2011 to February 28, 2017, the 215,000 criminal aliens who were booked into Texas jails were collectively charged with 566,000 offenses, including 1,167 homicides and 6,098 sexual assaults, with a total of 257,000 convictions.

By the way, Texas has less than half the criminal alien jail and prison population of California, which has over 100,000 criminal aliens occupying facilities supported by California taxpayers. (For 2009 incarceration numbers for each state, see Appendix III of the 2011 GAO report, here~>http://www.gao.gov/assets/320/316959.pdf)

... Until Obama’s election in 2008, there were only a handful of sanctuary cities across the nation, but the number skyrocketed after 2008 and now numbers over 300 according to a recent report from the Center for Immigration Studies. A 2016 report by the Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Justice found 155 jurisdictions that limit or restrict cooperation with the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Quote
But as we said, there is a new sheriff in town — and his deputies have been busy. Trump’s January 25 Executive Order was followed on February 20 by a Department of Homeland Security Memorandum titled, “Enforcement of the Immigration Laws to Serve the National Interest.” It is well worth reading in full.

...Unfortunately, our nation’s intrepid journalists are not routinely reporting on the thousands of crimes committed by criminal aliens who have been in police custody but then released because of sanctuary policies. It is conceivable that at least a half million serious crimes annually could be prevented if all illegal aliens convicted of felonies were deported — and then prevented from returning by effective border controls.

TRUMP RELEASES 'BIG LIST' TO SHAME SANCTUARY CITIES
Communities called out by name for refusing to protect U.S. from criminal illegals

The federal government has revealed that the liberals in Boulder County, Colorado, released three illegal aliens with assault convictions, one burglar and two with drug convictions rather than turn them over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal from the country.

The details are in the Department of Homeland Security’s “Weekly Declined Detainer Outcome Report,” posted by the agency on President Trump’s instructions. Department officials identified dozens of sanctuary cities across the U.S. that refused to turn over to ICE illegal aliens with criminal allegations or convictions.
"Weekly Declined Detainer Outcome Report” ~> https://www.ice.gov/doclib/ddor/ddor2017_01-28to02-03.pdf

For the period Jan. 28 through Feb. 3, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said there were 206 illegals whom sanctuaries refused to turn over. There was a convicted arsonist protected by Los Angeles and a murder suspect protected in Philadelphia.

The allegations or convictions ran the range from domestic violence, drunken driving, drug offenses and sexual or aggravated assaults to rape and indecent exposure.

Quote
In some cases, the numbers may not be accurate because of the high level of protection local officials provide to illegals, the report said.

In uncooperative jurisdictions like Cook County, Illinois, and the City of Philadelphia, ICE is barred from interviewing arrestees in local custody. Therefore, in these communities a large number of criminals who have yet to be encountered by ICE are arrested by local authorities and released in these communities without any notification to ICE,” the report said.

The report said the locations with the highest volume of ignored detainers issued were Clark County, Nevada, with 51; Nassau County New York, with 38; and Cook County, Illinois, with 13.

Mayor de Blasio to Block ICE Officers
from Entering City Schools

MONA SALAMA - 21 Mar 2017

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared Tuesday that his deputies will block U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from entering New York City public schools — even though agency officials say they are not pursuing illegal immigrants in schools.

“We will not allow ICE agents to threaten that protection, disrupt classes or take any action that would be detrimental to our students,” de Blasio said at a press conference held outside New York’s Tweed Courthouse Tuesday afternoon. “With these updated guidelines, we are reinforcing the fact that a school is a safe and protected location,” he said, adding that his promise would not apply if ICE got a court order.

Quote
The city plans to offer workshops called “Know Your Rights” and other political programs as “Make the Road NY,” to keep students and their families informed of the city’s new added plan. Also, those seeking legal assistance will obtain free immigration services, courtesy of ActionNYC, a taxpayer-funded immigration legal services program.

the 1982  liberal SCOTUS FORCED K-12 Public Schools nationwide to teach ILLEGAL ALIENS

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plyler_v._Doe
Supreme Court of the United States
Argued December 1, 1981
Decided June 15, 1982

Plyler v. Doe, 457 U.S. 202 (1982), was a case in which the Supreme Court of the United States struck down a state statute denying funding for education to illegal immigrant children and simultaneously struck down a municipal school district's attempt to charge illegal immigrants an annual $1,000 tuition fee for each illegal alien student to compensate for the lost state funding.[1] The Court found that where states limit the rights afforded to people (specifically children) based on their status as immigrants, this limitation must be examined under an intermediate scrutiny standard to determine whether it furthers a "substantial" state interest.

The application of Plyler v. Doe has been limited to K-12 schooling. Other court cases and legislation such as Toll v. Moreno 441 U.S. 458 (1979) and the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996[2] have allowed some states to pass statutes that deny illegal alien students eligibility for in-state tuition, scholarships, or even bar them from enrollment at public colleges and universities.[3][4][5]

These 7 Sanctuary Cities House A HUGE Number Of Illegal Immigrants

...

This all raises the following question: which sanctuary cities house the most illegal immigrants? According to the Pew Research Center, based on available 2014 data, here are seven such cities:

    New York City: 525,000.
    Los Angeles: 375,000.
    Chicago: 140,000.
    Denver: 55,000.
    Philadelphia: 50,000.
    Boston: 35,000.
    San Francisco: 35,000.

Pew's report doesn't specify those cities as sanctuary cities, but they are designated as such by the Center for Immigration Studies.

Pew also listed the top 20 metropolitan areas that house the most illegals:

Most of the metropolitan areas on the list include sanctuary cities; the only metropolitan areas that didn't include any sanctuary cities were Orlando, Houston and Phoenix. Miami-Dade County ended their sanctuary city policy shortly after Trump's inauguration. Some cities, such as San Diego, have claimed they never were sanctuary cities, but the Center for Immigration Studies states otherwise.

Only 11 of the 20 metropolitan areas listed had the data available to determine the number of illegal immigrants in each individual city.

Approximately 61 percent of illegal immigrants in the country reside in the 20 metropolitan areas listed by Pew, highlighting the danger of sanctuary cities, since there is a crime problem stemming from illegal immigration.

ALEX PFEIFFER - 03/27/2017

Attorney General Jeff Sessions urged sanctuary jurisdictions to reverse their policies Monday as the Department of Justice will begin to “claw back” federal grants from places that ignore immigration detainers.

Sessions highlighted a recent report from the Department of Homeland Security that showed more than 200 instances of jurisdictions failing to honor detainers in the span of just one week.
The DHS also identified sanctuary jurisdictions in the report, which included New York City and all of Rhode Island’s state prisons.

The report detailed illegal immigrants who had been charged with sex crimes and murder that local jurisdictions failed to turn over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “The American people are not happy with these results,” Sessions said while speaking at the White House.

"Let liberty ring. Let the laws be enforced to safeguard those whose
liberty the law protects in the first place: the citizens of the United States."

Robert Barnes:
Can Trump Legally Stop Sanctuary Cities?
Yes. Remember Brown v. Board of Education

27 Mar 2017

Over 100 jurisdictions, from Manhattan to Malibu, refuse to assist federal law enforcement in their immigration law enforcement duties, especially as to criminal aliens arrested for crimes here in the United States but released before federal law enforcement can detain and deport.

These governments labeled themselves “sanctuary” cities,
but a better label would be secessionist cities.

Quote
The legal argument the “sanctuary” cities rely upon bears merit, but they misuse and abuse the doctrine behind it. The “anti-commandeering” doctrine found one of its most articulate voices in Justice Scalia. The doctrine best distilled is this: “even where Congress has the authority under the Constitution to pass laws requiring or prohibiting certain acts, it lacks the power directly to compel the States to require or prohibit those acts.” The feds cannot shift enforcement to local government. That same doctrine makes the current path of defunding sanctuary cities a legally rocky road, especially in the current judiciary environment.

Where did the Second Circuit look for precluding lawless, secessionist minded municipal government going rogue against appropriate federal law and respect of federal elections? Brown v. Board of Education, the most famous and celebrated case in Supreme Court history.

As the Second Circuit properly summarized: the sanctuary city argument “asks us to turn the Tenth Amendment’s shield against the federal government’s using state and local government to enact and administer federal programs into a sword allowing states and localities to engage in passive resistance that frustrate federal programs,” including those programs of unique federal provenance and priority, such as immigration. Such actions could cause federal programs to “fail or fall short of their goals,” force the federal government to “restore to legal processes in every routine or trivial matter,” and invite “a refusal by local government to cooperate until a court order to do so.”

As the Second Circuit further noted: “A system of dual sovereignties cannot work without informed, extensive and cooperative interaction of a voluntary nature between sovereign systems for the mutual benefit of each system. The operation of dual sovereigns thus involves mutual dependencies” that can hardly survive as separate, antagonistic sovereigns. “Without the Constitution, each sovereign could, to a free, hold the other hostage by selectively withholding voluntary cooperations as to a particular program.” That is why the Supremacy Clause “bars states from taking actions that frustrate federal laws” in those areas of law the Constitution empowers the federal branches of government, like immigration. As the Second Circuit concluded almost two decades ago in undisturbed law: “states do not retain under the Tenth Amendment an untrammeled right to forbid all voluntary cooperation by state or local officials with particular federal programs.”

This opens the door to a complimentary, alternative option: formally funding cities, counties, and states that assist with enforcement of immigration laws against criminal and potentially dangerous aliens, a power all courts recognize Congress and the President enjoy. This parallel strategy employs the carrot rather than the stick, but avoids the traps of the deep state allies and their secessionist city friends in the federal courts, much as federal funding of integrated schools acted as a deterrent to less-funded segregated classrooms.

Yes, the sheriffs that uphold & enforce sanctuary city ideology should go to jail, at least.  Give the people a chance to get a sheriff that represents what they want -- namely a safe city, parks & streets.  There are generations now that do not know what it is like to live in peace, prosperity and a safe environment.  Safe enough, to rear kids in.

It is not a "right" to just come here and live in America.  It is a process that includes integration.  Those wanting to make America their home,  need to learn American History, American Government & the principles & why, English Language.   Then, they need to take an oath to our Country.  Hey, it's what used to happen!

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly have defended federal agents who make immigration arrests at courthouses after California's top judge asked them to stop, according to a letter released Friday.

Sessions and Kelly sent the letter Wednesday to California Supreme Court Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, saying state and city policies barring local law enforcement from turning over suspects for deportation have compelled federal agents to arrest immigrants at courthouses and other public places.

Courthouses are a safe place for federal agents to make the arrests
because visitors are typically screened for weapons, the letter says.

Tancredo to Sanctuary City Pols:
‘How Do You Live with Yourself’ Given the
Death and Mayhem from Your Decisions?

DAN RIEHL - 31 Mar 2017

Former Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo joined Breitbart News Daily SiriusXM host Alex Marlow to discuss a range of issues, including leaks and sabotage by the so-called “Deep State” to damage President Trump’s administration, sanctuary cities, and more.

Tancredo discussed eliminating sanctuary cities via a bill he has pushed in Colorado, stating, “Look, this isn’t that hard to try and figure out here. ‘Think about this,’ I said. ‘You’re a mayor, and for some reason, you decide to announce that anybody that escapes from any jail or prison in the United States, if they can get to your city, you will provide them sanctuary. That is to say, if they come into contact with your police department, you will not report it to the authorities. And let’s say people do escape, and people actually do get to your city, and they commit mayhem when they get there.'”

He continued, “Now, do you not think that because the bill actually requires, [it] would make people who voted for this and the authorities in these cities personally liable? And so, I said, ‘Don’t you think that, indeed, that is what’s happened – that anybody who does something that stupid, any elected official should, should not be held liable when something occurs, like what is happening throughout this country?'”

Quote
.... These politicians that have voted for this stuff, how do you live with yourself when you know your decisions have led directly to the death or other forms of mayhem being committed in your jurisdiction – because of your decisions? It’s astounding to me how they can live with themselves.”

Newark Mayor:
Trump Trying to Force Sanctuary Cities
Into Becoming ‘Fugitive Slave Catchers’

PAM KEY - 2 Apr 2017

Sunday on MSNBC’s “PoliticsNation,” Newark, NJ Mayor Ras Baraka (D) said President Donald Trump’s administration’s threat to withhold federal funding from sanctuary cities was ” trying to intimidate” them into becoming “fugitive slave catchers.”

Baraka said, “I think that them targeting sanctuary cities is a way for them to tell mayors and other folks around the country: one, that they’re sticking to what, I think, is a very unconstitutional and un-American policy. And trying to intimidate us into being what I’ve called ‘fugitive slave catchers’ that run around and do their bidding in our cities. And if we refuse to do that, then it makes it difficult for them to continue their policy because they don’t have the resources to kind of run down all the undocumented residents locally.”

MS-13 Street Gang ‘Is a Far Greater Threat to Your Life Than ISIS’

√ VIDEO: http://www.breitbart.com/video/2017/04/14/tucker-carlson-ms-13-street-gang-far-greater-threat-life-isis/[/color]

Quote
Transcript as follows:

It’s fair to say, ISIS is the new global gold standard for offal. Combined the Orlando, San Bernardino and Chattanooga terror attacks, and the groups is responsible for at least 68 deaths here in the U.S. over just the past three years and that is bad. On the other hand, it’s nothing compared to MS-13. That organization, a mostly immigrant street gang is a far greater threat to your life than ISIS is. It’s the numbers.

It’s not just the body’s pile up in smaller numbers and the coverage isn’t a splashy when they’re covered at all because often they are not. Besides the four killings you just heard about in New York today, there’s Raymond Wood. He’s the Lynchburg teenager apparently murdered and left by the side of the road two weeks ago by a group of MS-13 members. All of them were here illegally by the way.

There Kayla Cuevas and Nisa Mickens, a pair of teenage girls butchered with machetes by MS-13. They’re walking off from school in Brentwood, New York. We could go on and on and on. And in the future editions of the show, we will. But killing is not the end of the problem with MS-13, its members have been caught running child prostitution rings, they’ve been contacted by Mexican drug cartels, and paid their operations. And of course, they engage in the usual extortion, drug trafficking and human smuggling.

But unlike ISIS, MS-13 makes it hard to live in certain neighborhoods here in this country. Also unlike ISIS, there are a lot of them. ISIS may have a significant pass of supporters in the U.S. and a lot of a suspected does but true active ISIS members — pretty small, maybe a few hundred and most. MS-13, by contrast, has approximately 6,000 members according to the government in this country. And they’re supported by more than 30,000 abroad. Yes, abroad.

Because MS-13 is fundamentally a foreign threat. Now, the administration is using a lot of firepower to defeat insurgents in the Middle East right now and good for them. But what about the insurgency right down the road from you here in America? Because that’s exactly what it is.

Sessions DOJ to Sanctuary Cities:
Show Compliance or Lose Funds

IAN MASON - 21 Apr 2017

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has made good on his threat to cut Justice Department grants to so-called “sanctuary cities” that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. On Friday his subordinates sent letters to nine such jurisdictions demanding proof of compliance.

The letters, sent to the relevant authorities in New York City, Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Miami, Milwaukee, and the “sanctuary state” of California, makes clear that Byrne Grants, a major program by which the federal Department of Justice funds local law enforcement, will be withheld if these jurisdictions do not do their part to enforce federal immigration law.

In order to avoid losing their funding, the cities and California must provide the Justice Department
documented proof of compliance with 8 USC § 1373 no later than June 30. That law states that:

[L]ocal government entity or official may not prohibit, or in any way restrict, any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.

The accompanying press release noted the skyrocketing crime rates that have plagued these non-compliant jurisdictions and stressed the need to cooperate on immigration in order to fight growing transnational crime organizations like MS-13.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A federal judge on Tuesday blocked any attempt by the Trump administration to withhold funding from "sanctuary cities" that do not cooperate with U.S. immigration officials, saying the president has no authority to attach new conditions to federal spending.

U.S. District Judge William Orrick issued the preliminary injunction in two lawsuits - one brought by the city of San Francisco, the other by Santa Clara County - against an executive order targeting communities that protect immigrants from deportation.

The injunction will stay in place while the lawsuits work their way through court.

Neighborhoods’ to Find Illegal Aliens

PATRICK TUCKER

SAN DIEGO – Against a dusty backdrop, the sound of heavy truck traffic riding a hot breeze from a nearby Mexican highway, John Kelly, the head of the Department of Homeland Security, on Friday said the department would continue its controversial practice of arresting illegal immigrants in places like courthouses or places where those individuals might go to seek services, report crimes, or even file paperwork to postpone deportation.

“The best place for us to pick up these illegal criminals is in jails and prisons. It is inconceivable to me that an elected official at any level would prefer these types of men and women to be released into the community,” Kelly said.

Sheriff’s’ departments and police departments “want to cooperate with us and turn these people over that are in the jails,” Kelly said, meaning immigrants without proper documentation who had been apprehended by police on other charges. “If they don’t do that” — meaning if local law enforcement does not hand those individuals over to ICE because of political pressure — “we have to go into neighborhoods. We have to go into courthouses. We have to go where we can find them and apprehend them.”

“If it turns out sanctuary city is defined as Section 1373
compliance, then….there is no sanctuary city debate.”

DOJ:
Court Decision Does Not Stop Effort To Cut Funds From Sanctuary Cities

ALEX PFEIFFER - 04/25/2017

The Department of Justice is not worried about a federal court decision Tuesday that temporarily blocks enforcement of Trump’s executive order that targeted federal funding of “sanctuary cities.”

A spokesman said the DOJ will continue on with its efforts to restrict federal law enforcement grants from jurisdictions that restrict the federal government from accessing information about the immigration status of an individual.

Quote
Orrick did uphold the government’s ability to enforce conditions of existing grants and 8 U.S.C. 1373, the federal statute which pertains to sanctuary cities. Ian Prior, a Department of Justice spokesman, said in a statement that the “department will continue to enforce existing grant conditions and will continue to enforce 8 U.S.C. 1373.”

“Further, the order does not purport to enjoin the Department’s independent legal authority to enforce the requirements of federal law applicable to communities that violate federal immigration law or federal grant conditions,” Prior added.

White House Statement on Sanctuary Cities Ruling

https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2017/04/25/statement-sanctuary-cities-ruling

Quote
Today, the rule of law suffered another blow, as an unelected judge unilaterally rewrote immigration policy for our Nation. Federal law explicitly states that “a Federal, State or Local government entity or official may not prohibit, or in any way restrict, any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.”  8 U.S.C. 1373(a).  That means, according to Congress, a city that prohibits its officials from providing information to federal immigration authorities -- a sanctuary city -- is violating the law.   Sanctuary cities, like San Francisco, block their jails from turning over criminal aliens to Federal authorities for deportation.  These cities are engaged in the dangerous and unlawful nullification of Federal law in an attempt to erase our borders.

Once again, a single district judge -- this time in San Francisco -- has ignored Federal immigration law to set a new immigration policy for the entire country.  This decision occurred in the same sanctuary city that released the 5-time deported illegal immigrant who gunned down innocent Kate Steinle in her father's arms.  San Francisco, and cities like it, are putting the well-being of criminal aliens before the safety of our citizens, and those city officials who authored these policies have the blood of dead Americans on their hands.  This San Francisco judge's erroneous ruling is a gift to the criminal gang and cartel element in our country, empowering the worst kind of human trafficking and sex trafficking, and putting thousands of innocent lives at risk.

This case is yet one more example of egregious overreach by a single, unelected district judge.  Today’s ruling undermines faith in our legal system and raises serious questions about circuit shopping.  But we are confident we will ultimately prevail in the Supreme Court, just as we will prevail in our lawful efforts to impose immigration restrictions necessary to keep terrorists out of the United States.

In the meantime, we will pursue all legal remedies to the sanctuary city threat that imperils our citizens, and continue our efforts to ramp up enforcement to remove the criminal and gang element from our country.  Ultimately, this is a fight between sovereignty and open borders, between the rule of law and lawlessness, and between hardworking Americans and those who would undermine their safety and freedom.

Texas House Passes Bill to Jail
‘Sanctuary’ Sheriffs, Police Chiefs

BOB PRICE - 27 Apr 2017

The Texas House passed a tough anti-sanctuary bill containing provisions making it a crime for sheriffs and chiefs of police to refuse to cooperate with immigration officials. They could also be removed from office for providing “sanctuary” for the criminal illegal aliens in their jails.

Senate Bill 4 finally passed the Texas House Thursday afternoon by a vote of 94-53 along party lines.

Following the bill’s final passage in the House, the Texas House Republican Caucus sent out a statement saying the bill ensure federal immigration laws that are on the books will be followed and enforced in Texas. The caucus stated the bill prevents local entities from creating policies that threaten public safety.

Quote
When asked about whether he could be put in jail, Harris County Sheriff
Gonzalez replied, “I guess potentially they could if we aren’t in compliance.”

.... A recent poll reveals that Texans overwhelmingly support (by 93 percent), a police officer being able to check a person’s immigration status when they are arrested for a crime.

April 27, 2017

An 86-year-old woman and her 61-year-old female walking partner were brutally attacked by a stranger on their morning walk around the high school track on Wednesday morning, near Sacramento, California.

The 61-year-old escaped serious injury, but authorities report the 86-year-old widow died at the scene from the brutal, unprovoked attack.

The assault took place around 6 a.m. as the two friends walked at the Highlands high school track. According to the Sacramento Bee, a fellow early-morning walker called 911 when they saw someone attacking the women on the grass infield.

A press release issued by the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department states deputies responded to the call and began life-saving measure on the unresponsive 86-year-old female victim, however she was pronounced dead at the scene by Sacramento Metro Fire personnel.

The second victim was treated at the scene.

According to CBS, Sacramento County Sheriff’s officers are searching for a clean-shaven, black male in his 30s, 5’6” tall, with a medium complexion. He was last seen fleeing over a fence dressed in a burgundy sweat shirt and black sweat pants. Neighbors near the school reported law enforcement officers were requesting surveillance videos from the early morning hours.
....

UPDATE

Sacramento authorities announced on Thursday that they arrested a suspect in Wednesday’s early morning attack on two women at a high school track in an unrelated assault charge.

The unnamed 18-year-old suspect was arrested without incident following a second unprovoked attack on a third elderly woman in Sacramento.

A statement issued by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said that after deputies arrested the man in the afternoon, further investigation of the assault and circumstances of the day’s events led them to consider him as a person of interest in the Highlands High School attack which left a 61-year-old-woman injured and an 86-year-old woman dead.

Melina Mara/The Washington Post via Getty Images

The sanctuary city of New York released almost 180 criminal illegal aliens onto the streets in the first four months of 2017, despite pleas by immigration officials to hold the suspected criminals in custody.

In a revealing report by the New York Post, 179 illegal aliens who were arrested by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) for various crimes were then released back onto the streets, as the City continues enforcing the sanctuary city policies of Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Of those 179 illegal aliens accused of crimes, the NYPD did not comply with any Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers. ICE detainers request local and state law enforcement agencies to hold an illegal alien suspect of a crime until they can be properly transferred to federal authorities.

The NYPD does not comply with any ICE detainers, no matter how
heinous the crime is that the illegal alien is accused of.

“We have complied with zero federal detainer requests this year,’’ NYPD Police Commissioner James O’Neill said in a budget hearing. “We strongly feel that it is not the role of a municipal police force to enforce federal immigration laws.”

“To turn our NYPD officers into de facto U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents is to undo much of the highly commendable work we have achieved over the years,” O’Neill continued.

FAKE LAW!

JUDGE PROTECTING SANCTUARY CITIES
USING SAME TRICK TO STOP TRAVEL BAN

Administration official explains how N.Y. Times got story wrong on crackdown
GARTH KANT

WASHINGTON – Federal judges are using the same strategy to skirt the law in order to protect sanctuary cites as they used to stop the president’s travel ban, according to an administration source familiar with the case.

The administration source told WND on Friday that, in both instances, the rulings were clear examples of judges making erroneous legal decisions by placing more importance on public comments than the text of the law in determining the constitutionality of President Trump’s executive orders.

Federal Judge William Orrick cited public comments when he temporarily blocked an executive order to withhold some funds for cities that do not cooperate with federal immigration law enforcement.

“If there was doubt about the scope of the order, the president and attorney general have erased it with their public comments,” the San Francisco-based judge wrote in his April 25 ruling.

Appointed to the Northern District of California court in 2013 by former President Obama, Orrick is the same federal judge who, on Friday, ordered YouTube to remove a video showing Planned Parenthood officials making gruesome comments about abortions, including dismemberment and beheadings of fetuses.

Quote
Federal judges have also used Trump’s public campaign comments as a candidate rather than relying strictly on the law to stop the president’s executive order instituting a temporary travel ban from six countries rife with terrorism.

.... This issue of judges putting news reports above the letter of the law arose because WND contacted the Justice Department after dismayed readers expressed concern over a New York Times article on Monday titled “Sessions Narrows Trump’s Order Against Sanctuary Cities.”

A DOJ spokesman contacted Friday assured WND that the Times had misinterpreted the administration’s intentions and the DOJ was in no way lessening its crackdown on sanctuary cities.

Quote
What the Justice Department hopes to see is Congress amend 8 U.S. Code 1373 to make it illegal for government officials to refuse to cooperate with federal officials seeking to deport persons in local custody who are in the country illegally.

Even though it is currently illegal for local officials to refuse to communicate with federal officials seeking to deport illegal aliens, it is not illegal for local officials to refuse to cooperate with federal officials.

" ... the plan to implement the executive order is ongoing
and will apply both retrospectively and prospectively ..."

INSURRECTION AND FOREIGN TAKEOVER!

... this is what it has come to in America ...
gangs of illegals and their empowering bands

in Austin, RX and ranting threats at lawmakers in
a foreign language ... and traitors threatening the
lives of patriot lawmakers attempting to enforce the law:

'I'll put a bullet in your head':
Fistfight nearly erupts on final day of contentious legislative session

Brandi Grissom  /  Robert T. Garrett

AUSTIN — A shoving match and war of words nearly turned into a fistfight on the
Texas House floor Monday, the final day of a bitterly contentious 140-day legislative session.

"This session has been very, very difficult," said Rep. Celia Israel, D-Austin.
"There are enough of us here who remember a time in Texas when respect and decorum ruled the day."

Those rules flew out the House door when a group of protesters crashed the chamber's gallery Monday, chanting opposition to the so-called sanctuary cities ban. Legislators approved a bill this year that would force local governments to enforce federal immigration laws, what opponents call a show-me-your-papers law.

As they protested, Latino Reps. Ramon Romero and Cesar Blanco, both Democrats, waved to the noisy crowd. Republican Matt Rinaldi of Irving, a fervent supporter of the anti-immigration legislation, approached the Latino Democrats. They said Rinaldi told them he had called U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to report the protesters, who were largely Hispanic.

Quote
The Democrats were enraged. A shoving match ensued, and lawmakers accused one another of making violent threats. Rinaldi said a Democrat eventually threatened to "come get" him. Rep. Justin Rodriguez, D-San Antonio, who didn't witness the initial altercation, said he later heard Rinaldi say, "I'll put a bullet in your head," to the Democrat he alleged was menacing.

House Passes ‘Kate’s Bill,’ Sanctuary
City, Immigration Reforms

NEIL MUNRO - 29 Jun 2017

The House passed two immigration reforms today, marking a
first big step towards a pro-American national immigration
policy, despite strong Democratic opposition.

Donald Trump applauded the passage of “Kate’s Law,” which allows judges to impose tough sentences on illegal immigrants who return after being deported. The bill was named after Kate Steinle, who was killed in California by an illegal immigrant in 2015.

The second bill, “The No Sanctuary for Criminals Act,” allows federal agency officials to block some funding for cities which refuse to cooperate in the enforcement of immigration laws.

Quote
Immigration reform groups, including NumbersUSA and the Federation for American Immigration Reform, are also rallying Americans to pressure GOP and Democratic legislators for additional legislation, such as the Davis-Oliver bill, and for passage of the bills through the Senate.

DACA = Free ride for underage illegals.

Texas to Feds:
End DACA or We Will Sue, Nine Other States Join

BOB PRICE - 29 Jun 2017

A ten-state coalition led by the Texas attorney general sent a letter to the Trump Administration asking for an end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program. The group threatened to sue if the federal government does not end the program.

DACA, put in place by an administrative action under the Obama Administration,  granted temporary legal status and the right to work to millions of young people brought to the U.S. illegally by their parents.

“We respectfully request that the Secretary of Homeland Security phase out the DACA program,” Texas Attorney General Paxton and the coalition wrote in a letter (attached below) to U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. “Just like DAPA, DACA unilaterally confers eligibility for work authorization and lawful presence without any statutory authorization from Congress.”

Paxton signed the letter along with the attorneys general of Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, South Carolina, Tennessee, Idaho, West Virginia, and the governor of Idaho.

Quote
The coalition compared DACA and DAPA stating, “the Executive Branch does not have the unilateral power to confer lawful presence and work authorization on unlawfully present aliens simply because the Executive chooses not to remove them.”

Kate's Law ( allows families to sue sanctuary cities that allow illegal alien criminals .... )
All the dems but also some rinos voted against ...

http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/house/340137-house-passes-kates-law-and-crackdown-on-sanctuary-cities
...
In largely party line votes, the House approved two bills. One would cut off some federal grants from so-called sanctuary cities that limit cooperation with immigration authorities; the other would impose tougher sentences on criminals who have entered the U.S. illegally multiple times.
...
The sanctuary city bill passed 228-195, while the sentencing bill passed 257-167.
...
House Democratic leaders encouraged members to oppose the bill to withhold funds from sanctuary cities, but didn’t apply as much pressure on “Kate’s Law,” which establishes higher penalties for criminals who have entered the country illegally.
...

The House votes come at a time when Republicans have failed to make headway on Trump’s push to authorize funds for a new wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

California Risks Billions in Sanctuary
City Suit Against Trump Administration

CHRISS W. STREET5  - Aug 2017Newport Beach, CA

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra is launching a preemptive legal assault against the Trump Administration’s promise to pull tens of billions of dollars of federal funding from “sanctuary cities” that do not cooperate in enforcement against illegal aliens.

Attorney General Becerra is leading a coalition of 300 cities, 18 counties, and the State of California that intend to sue the Trump Administration over U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ plan to begin cutting off funding to jurisdictions tagged by the U.S. Justice Department as “sanctuary cities” that harbor illegal aliens from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, according to the Sacramento Bee.

The U.S. Department of Justice’s Inspector General issued a memorandum in August 2016 advising that sanctuary city practices violate federal law. The IG “finding” empowers Attorney General Sessions with the authority to seek court orders to strip up to about $135 million in federal grants to California state and local law enforcement agencies that refuse to comply with U.S. laws. The Justice Department could also broaden the cut-off to another $360 million in drug enforcement grants to schools, harbors, and airports.

Quote
President Trump on January 25th issued Executive Order: Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvement ( https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2017/01/25/executive-order-border-security-and-immigration-enforcement-improvements ) to give the Justice Department the power to ban federal funding for sanctuary cities. U.S. District Judge William H. Orrick III, an Obama appointee, ruled in April that the executive order was unconstitutional, but the Trump Administration has filed an appeal and expects to get a ruling overturning the lower court.

... In an added risk to Democrats, Breitbart California editor Joel Pollak reported on August 5th that Judicial Watch just wrote a letter to California Secretary of State Alex Padilla questioning why 11 of California’s 58 counties appear to be in violation of the U.S. Voter Registration Act by having more registered voters than adults over the age of 18.

ICE Director Homan to DoJ:
Make Sanctuary Cities Accountable —
Charge Politicians With Crimes, Hold Back Funding

OHN BINDER - 3 Jan 2018

In an interview with Fox News Channel’s Neil Cavuto on Tuesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement director Thomas Homan said the federal government should consider charging politicians who enact sanctuary city laws to protect criminal illegal aliens “with crimes.”

Partial transcript as follows:

HOMAN: We got to work with the Department of Justice. The Department of Justice needs to do a couple things. Number one, they need to file charges against the sanctuary cities. Number two, they need to hold back their funding. Another thing they need to do, they need to hold these politicians personally accountable. I mean, more citizens are going to die because of these policies and these politicians can’t make these decisions and be held unaccountable for people dying.  I mean, we need to hold these politicians accountable for their actions.

CAVUTO: Does the president share your views, sir?

HOMAN: Absolutely he does.

CAVUTO: He’s told you that?

HOMAN: The president is totally against sanctuary cities. He knows, as well as I do that people are dying, people are being victimized by illegal aliens in this country and there are certain sanctuary cities that don’t want to cooperate with us. Look, this is about the American public. This is about the U.S. citizens being victimized by some of these criminal illegal aliens. We’ve got to hold sanctuary cities accountable. This is going to continue. The crime rate in California is going to increase.

At least 50 percent of these criminal aliens being released back into the public re-offend the first year. Seventy-five percent will re-offend in 5 years. This is a victimization of the American community. This isn’t the America I grew up in.

We’ve got to take these sanctuary cities on.
We’ve got to take them to court and start charging
some of these politicians with crimes.

California AG:
Employers who Cooperate With Federal Immigration Raids Will be Prosecuted

"We will prosecute those who violate [California] law,” Becerra responded.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra (D-CA) said during a press conference Thursday that employers in California who cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in their rumored upcoming immigration raids would be prosecuted if they cooperate in a manner that violates California law.

Becerra held the press conference following reports that ICE officials are “preparing for a major sweep in San Francisco and other Northern California cities.”

According to the San Francisco Chronicle:

“U.S. immigration officials have begun preparing for a major sweep in San Francisco and other Northern California cities in which federal officers would look to arrest more than 1,500 undocumented people while sending a message that immigration policy will be enforced in the sanctuary state, according to a source familiar with the operation.”

The Sacramento Bee’s Angela Hart asked Becerra if the attorney general’s office would take legal action against employers who cooperate with ICE officials.

“There are new laws in place in California now in 2018 with the advent of 2018. I mentioned two of them specifically, AB 450 and SB 54. AB 450 in particular deals with the workplace in particular and how we go about treating the information about the workplace and employees at the workplace by employers,” Becerra explained. “What we’re trying to make sure is that employers are aware that in 2018, there is a new law in place.”

Becerra then told the reporters gathered that ignorance of the new laws is not a defense.

California cities prepare for alleged ICE sweeps
Tatiana Sanchez, Bay Area News Gruop - 01/18/18

Fear is growing in immigrant communities that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is getting ready to launch massive raids across California — a threat that activists and politicians say is retaliation against the Golden State’s bold “sanctuary” policies.

ICE director Thomas Homan recently told Fox News that the agency will significantly increase enforcement across the state and warned California to “hold on tight.”

" ... ICE is planning raids targeting Northern California cities, with
the goal of arresting more than 1,500 immigrants."

Quote
ICE Director: “What they have done is force my officers to arrest dangerous criminals on their turf, in their homes, and their places of business, rather than arresting them in the safety and security of a county jail."

ICE Is Enforcing Deportation Orders Against
High-Profile Illegal Immigrant Activists

WILL RACKE - 01/20/2018

Immigration authorities have detained in recent weeks two prominent activists who are themselves illegal immigrants, demonstrating the Trump administration’s commitment to expand the pool of deportable aliens.

The arrested men have openly lived in the U.S. for years and have until recently enjoyed a de facto immunity from deportation, thanks to their status as high-profile immigrants’ rights activists. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials have denied the arrests are politically motivated, but they clearly show that immigration agents are now emboldened to arrest even the most connected of illegal immigrants. ~> https://newsanctuarynyc.wordpress.com/about/

Both men are leaders of the New Sanctuary Coalition of New York City, a network of religious and social organizations that works to prevent the detention and deportation of illegal immigrants. ICE officers first detained Jean Montrevil, a Haitian national who had lived in the U.S. since 1986 despite having served a prison term for drug possession that resulted in a deportation order.

The week before Montrevil’s removal, ICE arrested Ravidath Ragbir during his check-in with officials at the ICE office in New York. The executive director of New Sanctuary and the public face of immigration activism in New York City, Ragbir came to the U.S. in 1991 as a legal permanent resident, but he was ordered deported in 2006 following a wire fraud conviction for which he served a two-and-a-half year prison sentence.

Get the criminals OUT.  What I saw in CA was an American society and culture slowly start rotting with the imported illegal aliens.  They brought with them the corruption, bribery, gangs and lifestyle they were used to.  They did not know to expect anything different.   Not that America was perfect.  But, it was not the norm, nor was it taken as a way of life, out in the open, for corruption and bribery.  Instead, people were prosecuted for it.

... here's a great source, with interactive maps,
about the cities/areas in the US who declared
themselves 'sanctuary' for illegals and are
'outside the law':

Maps: Sanctuary Cities, Counties, and States
By Bryan Griffith and Jessica Vaughan on July 27, 2017

The sanctuary jurisdictions are listed below. These cities, counties, and states have laws, ordinances, regulations, resolutions, policies, or other practices that obstruct immigration enforcement and shield criminals from ICE — either by refusing to or prohibiting agencies from complying with ICE detainers, imposing unreasonable conditions on detainer acceptance, denying ICE access to interview incarcerated aliens, or otherwise impeding communication or information exchanges between their personnel and federal immigration officers.

A detainer is the primary tool used by ICE to gain custody of criminal aliens for deportation. It is a notice to another law enforcement agency that ICE intends to assume custody of an alien and includes information on the alien's previous criminal history, immigration violations, and potential threat to public safety or security.

Sarah Sanders Goes Medieval On Sanctuary City Mayors —
Reporters Pick Their Jaws Off The Ground

BENNY JOHNSON

Sarah Sanders took a variety of questions from reporters at Wednesday’s White House press briefing, but one of the first was about the White Houses’s relationship with sanctuary cities. The Trump administration has taken a hard line against such practices and has threatened to crack down on the sanctuary cities ....

(QUESTION)...“The justice department is threatening 23 so-called sanctuary cities, including New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles with subpoenas, if they fail to provide documents to show whether local law enforcement officials are sharing information with federal immigration authorities. What’s the White House’s view on this?”

(SARAH SANDERS) ... “We cannot allow people to pick and choose what laws to follow. If we have a country with no laws, then nothing matters. So we cannot allow a few individual people to decide they don’t want to follow the rules. You guys wouldn’t be allowed to do that in your own networks and outlets, and the federal government cannot allow people to act independently and completely ignore the law.”

There was no follow up question.

AFL-CIO Unions Prod Employers to Hide
Illegal Migrants From Enforcement Agencies

NEIL MUNRO - 12 Feb 2018

The Democratic Party’s allies in the AFL-CIO’s unions are pressuring unions and companies to protect illegal-alien migrant employees from deportation, effectively converting the pro-worker unions into wage-cutting front-groups for employers.

The conversion is described by the New York Daily News, which showed how progressive lawyers train local Teamster union leaders to negotiate workplace contracts which minimize employers’ cooperation with immigration enforcement agencies. The article says:

At a Wednesday class, funded by the Consortium for Worker Education, Mike Spinelli of Local 553 listened carefully as trainer Luba Cortés walked everyone through the difference between an administrative warrant and a judicial one. …

Spinelli paid particular attention because many of his members — immigrants who work at a Long Island dairy farm — were profoundly shaken when federal [immigration enforcement] agents raided nearly 100 7-Eleven stores last month in a search for undocumented workers.

“We deliver all the dairy to all the 7-Eleven stores in the city — you can imagine how scared some of these guys are,” he said. “It’s a scary time in general, and we’re hoping this can help the workers feel prepared and help protect them — and also so employers know they don’t have to just roll over.”

Unions once existed to push up workers’ wages by denying employers the ability to hire other people from outside the picket line. However, since before 2008, unions have been enrolling illegal migrants who illegally crossed the line between the United States and other countries.

Quote
Four million Americans turn 18 each year and begin looking for good jobs in the free market. But the federal government inflates the supply of new labor by annually accepting roughly 1.1 million new legal immigrants, by providing work-permits to roughly 3 million resident foreigners, and by doing little to block the employment of roughly 8 million illegal immigrants.

Trump Threat:
‘I Am Thinking About’ Pulling ICE out of California

JOEL B. POLLAK - 22 Feb 2018

President Donald Trump threatened Thursday to pull the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency out of California to punish the state for what he called its efforts to shield criminal gang members in “sanctuary cities.”
Trump was addressing a meeting of state and local government leaders at the White House who had gathered to discuss how to improve safety and security at the nation’s schools, in the wake of the mass shooting last week at the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

After praising the work of Attorney General Jeff Sessions in fighting against gangs, Trump addressed the question of opposition form the State of California directly:

Quote
They [the MS-13 gang] actually have franchises going to Los Angeles. We’re getting no help from the State of California. I mean, frankly, if I wanted to pull our people from California, you would have a crime mess like you’ve never seen in California. All I’d have to do is say, “ICE and Border Patrol,  let California alone.” You’d be inundated — you would see crime like no one has ever seen crime in this country. And yet, we get no help from the State of California. They are doing a lousy management job. They have the highest taxes in the nation, and they don’t know what’s happening out there. Frankly, it’s a disgrace. The “sanctuary city” situation, the protection of these horrible criminals — you know it, because you’re working on it — the protection of these horrible criminals in California, and other places, but in California, that if we ever pulled our ICE out, and we ever said, “Let California alone, let them figure it out for themselves,” in two months, they’d be begging for us to come back. They would be begging. And you know what? I am thinking about doing it.

Oakland Mayor Mayor Libby Schaaf warns residents of possible ICE raids
Aja Seldon, KRON and Julianne Herrera - February 25, 2018, 8:15

OAKLAND (KRON)– Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf is warning residents of
a possible ICE raid that could happen within the next 24 hours.

According to Schaaf, she learned of the raids from credible sources who say the Immigration and Customs Enforcement is preparing to conduct a sweep in the Bay Area.

Schaaf said she’s sharing the information not to incite panic, but to protect people.

The city is encouraging residents to consult immigration resources. Oakland police officers are prohibited from participating in ICE activities.

Full statement here:
News from: Office of Mayor Libby Schaaf

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
February 24, 2018

Mayor Schaaf Encourages Residents to Consult Immigration Resources Due to Potential ICE Activity

Oakland, CA – Earlier today, I learned from multiple credible sources that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is preparing to conduct an operation in the Bay Area, including Oakland, starting as soon as within the next 24 hours.

As Mayor of Oakland, I am sharing this information publicly not to panic our residents but to protect them.

My priority is for the well-being and safety of all residents — particularly our most vulnerable — and I know that Oakland is safer when we share information, encourage community awareness, and care for our neighbors.

Interested residents should consult the website http://www.centrolegal.org/acilep/ to understand their legal rights and options in the event they face detention or know someone who needs legal representation.

In Oakland, OUSD public schools have strict protocols in place to protect our students and families. Oakland police officers are prohibited from participating in ICE activities.(Ed: Hide at the schools!)

Additionally, California state law prohibits business owners from assisting ICE agents in immigration enforcement and bars federal agents from accessing employee-only areas. (Ed: Hide at your job!)

I have reached out to local leaders and partners in our immigrant communities to share this information. Our shared message is clear: We want residents to prepare, not panic. We understand ICE has used activity rumors in the past as a tactic to create fear; our intent is for our community to go about their daily lives without fear, but resiliency and awareness.

I am not aware of any further details of the ICE operation, such as precise locations.

I know that Oakland is a city of law-abiding immigrants and families who deserve to live free from the constant threat of arrest and deportation.

I believe it is my duty and moral obligation as Mayor to give those families fair warning when that threat appears imminent.

Angel Dad Demands DOJ Probe into Oakland
Mayor’s ‘Obstruction’ of ICE Operation

BOB PRICE - 26 Feb 2018

The father of a man killed by an illegal immigrant is calling for the federal government to file obstruction of justice charges against the mayor of Oakland, California.
Mayor Libby Schaaf (D) sent out a memo and tweet on February 24, warning migrants that immigration officers were about to began an arrest operation. The memo also threatened California businesses who cooperate with federal immigration enforcement officers.

Quote
On Monday, Angel Dad Dan Rosenberg called for the federal government to file obstruction of justice charges against the mayor. An illegal immigrant in San Francisco killed Rosenberg’s son as he struck the young man’s motorcycle and then ran over him several times while trying to escape.

“I’d like to see the DOJ go after her, along with other people,” Rosenberg told Fox and Friends Monday morning. “They should be going after her right now.”

“I think she needs to be charged with obstruction of justice, a violation of (8 USC) 1324 of the U.S. Code, and harboring and shielding illegal aliens from detection,” he explained. “She can say she didn’t get it through official channels. You’re not allowed to obstruct justice whether you got it through official channels or not.”

Sessions to make major ‘sanctuary jurisdiction
announcement’ in Sacramento

Bob Egelko - March 6, 2018

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is scheduled to be in Sacramento on Wednesday to make what his office describes as a “major sanctuary jurisdiction announcement,” just blocks from the state Capitol, where a new law making California a sanctuary state was passed and signed.

Sessions did not provide advance details of his announcement, but his Justice Department has been in an escalating legal battle with California, dozens of cities and counties in the state, including San Francisco, and hundreds nationwide whose laws and policies restrict local police and jailers from taking part in federal immigration enforcement.

Jerry Brown:
Trump ‘Going to War Against the State of California’

JOEL B. POLLAK - 7 Mar 2018

SACRAMENTO, California — California Governor Jerry Brown complained Wednesday that the Trump administration “is basically going to war against the state of California” after Attorney General Jeff Sessions filed a lawsuit Tuesday evening against California’s “sanctuary state” laws.

The lawsuit targets three laws in particular: the Immigrant Worker Protection Act (HB 450), the Inspection and Review of Facilities Housing Federal Detainees law (AB 103); and the California Values Act (SB 54). The Trump administration argues that California’s laws are unconstitutional under the Supremacy Clause, which states that federal law “shall be the supreme Law of the Land.

Sessions flew to Sacramento to mark the occasion with a speech Wednesday morning to a meeting of the California Peace Officers Association, which had opposed SB 54. In his address, Sessions compared California’s resistance to federal immigration law to the efforts of the Old South and the Confederacy to resist the Union.

“There is no nullification.  There is no secession.  Federal law is ‘the supreme law of the land.’  I would invite any doubters to Gettysburg, and to the graves of John C. Calhoun and Abraham Lincoln,” Sessions said.

Quote
In response, Brown was enraged.

“This is really unprecedented for the chief law enforcement officer of the United States to come out to California and act more like Fox News than a law enforcement officer. This is a political stunt,” he told reporters, as quoted by The Hill.

Mexican Illegal Alien Arrested for Deadly Hit-and-Run
Free to Leave Prison in Sanctuary City Denver

JOHN BINDER - 7 Mar 2018

An illegal alien from Mexico, arrested for allegedly causing a fatal hit-and-run accident, will be free to leave prison should he pay his $25,000 bond, as the Denver Sheriff’s Department remains committed to their “sanctuary city” policy.

Illegal alien Ivan Zamarripa-Castaneda, a 26-year-old from Mexico, was arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash that involved his truck and a semi-truck, according to KDVR.

Following the crash, Zamarripa-Castaneda, allegedly drunk, fled the scene, according to police, as the semi-truck was engulfed in flames and the driver of the vehicle was killed.

Quote
The illegal alien was arrested for vehicular homicide and hit-and-run, which is a felony, though if he pays his $25,000 bond, he will be released back into the public, as the Denver Sheriff’s Office refuses to cooperate with federal immigration officials.

According to KDVR, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has placed a “detainer” on Zamarripa-Castaneda, but the Denver Sheriff’s Department refuses to honor ICE detainers.

California leaders rebuke Sessions as 'going to war' over state immigration policy
By Jazmine Ulloa and Liam Dillon

| Sacramento

A long-simmering battle between the Trump administration and California over immigration boiled over Wednesday, with Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions deriding the state's "irrational, unfair and unconstitutional policies" and Gov. Jerry Brown accusing the federal government of launching "a reign of terror."

"This is basically going to war against the state of California," Brown declared.

As the Justice Department formally filed a legal challenge to state immigration laws, Sessions told a gathering of law enforcement officers in Sacramento that California was attempting to keep federal immigration officials from doing their jobs, and he charged Democrats with advancing the political agendas of "radical extremists."
...
State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles), author of one of the laws targeted by the legal challenge, accused Sessions of having ideology based on "white supremacy and white nationalism."
...
"We are going to fight these irrational, unfair and unconstitutional policies that have been imposed on you and our federal officers," Sessions said as he finished his speech to the California Peace Officers Assn., and some officers stood in ovation. "You can be certain about this: We have your back, and you have our thanks."

Will cop killer's profane tirades make this jury sentence him to death?
Updated March 06, 2018 08:42 AM

Convicted cop killer Luis Bracamontes was in court for less than five minutes Monday before he slipped back into regular form for the first day of his death penalty trial.

Bracamontes, who was convicted last month in the slayings of Sacramento sheriff’s Deputy Danny Oliver and Placer sheriff’s Detective Michael Davis Jr., was ushered into court for the start of testimony by Oliver’s partner, Scott Brown.

But, as he has numerous times during court hearings in the case, he unleashed a profane tirade as Brown began to testify, shouting that Brown and his partner were “bothering people” when they asked him for ID in October 2014 and Bracamontes set off on his deadly rampage.

“That’s why I killed the mother------, huh,” Bracamontes said. “You’re all f------ cowards,” he added before he was led out by deputies.

‘Important Alert!’:
Oakland Mayor Warned Businesses with Illegal Alien
Employees Before Announcing ICE Raid

by JOHN BINDER - 15 Mar 2018

Newly released emails reveal that Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf (D) — who helped criminal illegal aliens evade deportation by announcing a planned Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid before it took place — warned businesses that hire illegal aliens ahead of her announcement with an “Important alert!” message.

Last month, Schaaf warned illegal aliens in the Bay Area that ICE would be conducting an arrest raid for criminal illegal aliens, as Breitbart News reported. Subsequently, Schaaf helped many criminal illegal aliens with sex crime convictions, drunk driving convictions, and armed robbery convictions escape arrest and deportation.

Before making her public warning to illegal aliens in Oakland, though, emails obtained by CBS San Francisco reveal that Schaaf warned businesses with illegal alien employees with an alert message to help the employees avoid being arrested and deported by ICE.

“Important Alert! Credible information ICE Raids in Oakland Sunday 2/25 and Monday 2/26,” the message from the mayor’s office to a local business group, the Oakland Indie Alliance, reads. “This information comes directly from the Mayor.”

Quote
The emails also reveal that Schaaf was in contact with a local open borders group, Centro Legal de la Raza, which helps illegal aliens get attorneys to avoid deportations. The emails between the group and Schaaf show that they were in touch before her announcement, speaking specifically about what employers can do during a raid by ICE.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s Department of Justice (DOJ) told Breitbart News exclusively that he is working with ICE officials and attorneys to consider prosecuting Schaaf for obstruction of justice.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is a sell-out idiot.

Firstly, you do not "tell" someone you are "considering"  prosecuting them, let alone the charges it would be based on (obstruction of justice).  Secondly, the ONLY reason for a lame announcement like this is to give opportunity to be PAID OFF.  This statement of his is the same as reaching out with both palms up and open, saying gimme gimme.

This statement of Sessions "...to consider prosecuting Schaaf for obstruction of justice" also does not do anything but telegraph to San Francisco Mayor Schaaf to get her ducks in a row and get rid of any incriminating evidence so she can get off if she does happen to be charged.  FBI better get a hold of her emails and fast!

Sessions is a lazy turn-coat idiot who needs to LEAVE and GET OUT of the White House.

More California Cities Seek to Defy
‘Sanctuary State’ as Revolt Spreads

 JOEL B. POLLAK - 21 Mar 2018

More California cities may consider defying the state’s “sanctuary state” laws, after the city council of Los Alamitos passed an ordinance defying the state’s controversial new legislation preventing cooperation with federal immigration authorities.

Leaders of Los Alamitos, in Orange County, passed the ordinance 4-1 and instructed the city attorney to file an amicus brief in the ongoing Department of Justice lawsuit against the State of California. The lawsuit challenges the Immigrant Worker Protection Act (HB 450), the Inspection and Review of Facilities Housing Federal Detainees law (AB 103); and the California Values Act (SB 54).

The Orange County Register reports that other cities — and even Orange County itself —
are now thinking of following suit (original links):

Quote
The County of Orange and several cities in Southern California soon might join Los Alamitos in its bid to opt out of a controversial state law that limits cooperation with federal immigration officials.

Officials with the county as well as leaders in Aliso Viejo and Buena Park said Tuesday they plan to push for various versions of the anti-sanctuary ordinance approved in Los Alamitos late Monday by a 4-1 vote of that city council. Immigration advocates said Los Alamitos and cities and counties that follow its opt-out ordinance will be violating state law and at risk of litigation.

But Los Alamitos’ anti-sanctuary push also received wide attention in conservative media, and gained support from those who don’t agree with California’s protective stance on all immigrants, regardless of legal status.

ROBERT KRAYCHIK - 6 Apr 2018

Dale Wilcox, executive director and general counsel for the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI), joined Thursday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight to discuss his organization’s filing of two briefs against California to challenge the Golden State’s “sanctuary state” law. He spoke with Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Rebecca Mansour and special guest host Patrick Courrielche.

California’s SB 54, “The California Values Act,” prevents local authorities from honoring Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers, making California a “sanctuary state.”

Wilcox said, “Tomorrow, we’re filing two briefs, and the United States vs. California lawsuit wherein the U.S. government is challenging California’s new sanctuary state laws. San Diego County Board of Supervisors votes to support
sanctuary state lawsuit against California

CHRIS LINDAHL - Apr 17, 2018

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego County Board of Supervisors has voted to support the Trump administration’s lawsuit against California’s sanctuary laws.

The board voted 3-1 Tuesday afternoon to support the lawsuit. The board directed that the County’s attorney to file an amicus brief supporting the federal lawsuit. The deadline to file a brief passed, so Chairwoman Kristin Gaspar said the earliest the county can file a brief is if the ruling is appealed to a higher court.

Supervisor Greg Cox was the only one opposed to supporting the lawsuit. Supervisor Ron Roberts wasn’t present for the vote.

Half of all Americans now live in ‘sanctuaries’ protecting immigrants
Study finds surge in those jurisdictions
By Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Thursday, May 10, 2018

About half of all Americans now live under sanctuary policies that shield illegal immigrants from law enforcement, according to the latest tally of jurisdictions that the Federation for American Immigration Reform is releasing Thursday.

FAIR calculates there were 564 states and municipalities that refuse some level of cooperation with federal immigration authorities as of April 1, up more than 200 since President Trump took office and up more than 500 compared with a decade ago. There were just 40 sanctuaries when President Obama took office.

Entire states such as California, Illinois and New York are now sanctuaries, as well as major cities and counties such as Fairfax, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties and the District of Columbia in the capital region, according to the list.

Combined, the sanctuaries on FAIR’s list cover 49 percent of the country’s population, The Washington Times calculated.

“This is just an astounding and a dramatic surge of sanctuary jurisdictions,” said Bob Dane, executive director at FAIR. “They’ve doubled in just two years, and if you game that out, if the exponential growth continues, it’s not going to be long before it’s accurate to say the U.S. is a sanctuary country.”

Study:
Sanctuary Cities Nearly Double
Under Trump’s Stricter Enforcement

JOHN BINDER - 11 May 2018

Sanctuary city jurisdictions that harbor and shield criminal illegal aliens from deportation by federal immigration officials have nearly doubled since President Trump took office and began more strictly enforcing immigration laws.

According to a study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), there are now 564 sanctuary cities across the United States, compared to when former President Obama was in office, when there were 338 sanctuary cities in 2016.

(http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg148/evinyl/PrisonPlanetForum/FORUM/Screen-Shot-2018-05-11-at-2.24.06-PM.png) (http://s247.photobucket.com/user/evinyl/media/PrisonPlanetForum/FORUM/Screen-Shot-2018-05-11-at-2.24.06-PM.png.html)

Experts with FAIR say that it is no longer only sanctuary cities that are expanding, but entire states — like California — are becoming sanctuary jurisdictions under Trump.

Quote
“Increasingly entire states are declaring themselves sanctuaries, thereby imposing these policies on county and municipal governments,” the FAIR report notes. “They have also morphed from passive non-cooperation policies to active efforts to obstruct federal enforcement, including against most criminal aliens.”

Likewise, the FAIR report says the increase in sanctuary cities across the country has also “sparked a counter-trend” of states banning sanctuary cities.

LOCAL SHERIFF FEARS SANCTUARY COUNTIES COULD
SPREAD MAYHEM THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE COUNTRY

09/06/2018 - Nick Givas

Frederick County, Maryland, Sheriff Chuck Jenkins said sanctuary counties that shelter illegal immigrants pose a risk to the entire nation, on ?Fox & Friends? Thursday.

Jenkins met with President Donald Trump at the White House with other local sheriffs on Wednesday to discuss the issues of illegal immigration and possible reform strategies.

?Well, the purpose was bringing sheriffs from across the country to discuss issues involving illegal immigration and border security ? what we saw as problems, what we saw as maybe solutions, also talk with his policy staff,? Jenkins said.

Jenkins said the cracks from illegal immigration are starting to show in Frederick County, mostly in the form of drug trafficking and an overall spike in crime.

?In Frederick County as across the country, listen we?re seeing the impact of illegal immigration crime ? the drugs that are pouring into the country,? he said. ?We talked about border security. We talked about detainers, the issues with criminal detainers. We talked about detention and bed space across the country for [Immigration and Customs Enforcement]. We also talked about what we were going to do as far as the strategy for border security.?

The polices of sanctuary counties frustrate him, Jenkins
said and claimed they are having a negative effect on all of America.

Quote
?We all feel the impact of this all across the country,? he concluded. ?When we have a county or a state that borders us, that?s a sanctuary county, we certainly feel the impact because criminals know no borders.?
