Inter arma enim silent leges

« on: April 05, 2009, 07:18:25 PM »

I am wondering if anyone else has noticed the things I have in the past few months. Just today, I was driving down a two lane road in Columbia, TN when I saw a local National Guard HMMWV (hummer) and a deuce and a half drive by. This may seem innocent enough except for the fact that the deuce and a half had a 1.1D hazmat placard on it. For those who don't know what that is, it is a hazmat placard for explosives. I put these on trucks all the time when I was on active duty. The problem here is that the National Guard has no explosives. You don't need a placard for bullets. The only time they handle explosives is on active duty bases and they conduct their exercises on those bases so they would not be on a public road with anything explosive in the truck. This is not the first I have seen. My mother-in-law lives way out in the country and just about every week, a semi will drop off a trailer in the middle of the night with HMMWV, FMTV, Abrams, or other equipment on the back. The trailer will sit for a day, sometimes two, and be taken away in the middle of the night again. There is nothing around this place either. The National Guard armory is 20 miles away and their equipment would have no business being on this road anyway. The military vehicles I see are always going into this rural area and I never see them come back out. I did notice that a hole in the wall dirt road out there has recently been widened and has guard rails now. A friend and I drove out there late one night and the road goes nowhere. It ends at a steel gate and some TWRA (Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency) no tresspassing signs. We don't know what is beyond the gate but I am pretty sure that that is where they are storing this military equipment. This road is litterally in the middle of nowhere.
I am just wondering if anyone has noticed any other weird occurrences like this in their areas.

Everyone please bookmark this thread and lets start posting our sightings. I think it will be very useful to let us. Please get picks and good descriptions use the S.A.L.U.T.E>Size, Activity, Location, Unit, Time, Equipment.

How can we get this topic pinned?

Any idea what the MP were doing at a horse race?

If confronted, they'd probably say with the huge crowd and traffic, etc, that the local and state police were over-stretched.  If they in fact did need help, they should have brought in some extra cops from Lexington, Frankfort and other towns and cities instead of using MPs.

I worked the Kentucky Derby two years ago and there were MP's there then too. They keep a very low profile in the infield party area. Im surprised one of them got their picture taken.
