At this moment, details of how the fires were started are sketchy, but from the number of buildings ablaze the chances of an accidental cause seem unlikely. Pictures sent in to gnews suggest the scale and locations of the fires would point to a sophisticated coordination of deliberate arson which elicits fears of terror links. Raised suspicions abound as the fires coincided with President Barack Obama's arrival in London amid heavy security. Leaders and dignitaries of the most powerful countries have been arriving in London since the beginning of the week in preparation for the G20 summit. In all the chaos, the BBC has yet to feature the story, but if London eye-witnesses have any photos, videos or details to add to as it develops then please send them through to Gnews as soon as possible. London was the centre of international tension this week over the G20 summit where the world’s leaders are due to convene tomorrow in order to discuss the future of the world’s economy. A number of internet forums planned protests against the G20. Furthermore, one site, G20 Meltdown said: “Capitalism has been heating up our world for years, melting the icecaps, burning up the rainforests, pushing the planet to tipping point. Now we’re going to put the heat on them.” On the website, protestors claimed they would reclaim London: “thrusting into the very belly of the beast: the Bank of England.” On Tuesday, the BBC reported that terrorist suspects had been arrested in Devon after the discovery of imitation firearms and “firework like” explosives at a flat in Plymouth. Five people were originally arrested and taken to custody in connection with the weapons; one woman was released on bail. Luckily, the weapons, along with politically sensitive material were seized by Police. Detectives believe the intention of the Devonshire group was to cause severe disturbance at the G20 protests. Fears were abound that violence could escalate to the levels of the 1990 Poll Tax riots.

Tuesday, March 31, 2009Yesterday’s reports of a foiled “terrorist plot” in relation to the G20 protests in London have been scaled back after it was revealed that the house raided by police contained only plastic guns and fireworks. “The three men, aged 25, 19 and 16, and two women, both 20, all live in Plymouth and the surrounding area,” reported The Guardian. “They are political activists unaffiliated to any terrorist organisation, and were arrested at addresses in Plymouth. They are being held under terrorism legislation. The explosive devices were made from simple fireworks, police said.” Nevertheless, police have called in Royal Navy bomb disposal experts to deal with the weapons. The police have also said that they recovered “allegedly extremist materials”, without further expanding on what they might be. “At a press conference at Crownhill police station in Plymouth, Assistant Chief Constable Paul Netherton said the investigation was sparked when a 25-year-old man was arrested for spray-painting on a wall in Plymouth city centre - but would not comment on the nature of the graffiti,” reported the Press Association. It has since come to light that the graffiti read ‘Antifa’, which is the name of an anti-racist movement that advocates the use of violence against extreme right-wing groups. The youths, who were initially arrested on drug charges, are now being held under the terrorism act. Meanwhile, fresh reports have emerged alleging that anarchists are planning to pose as peaceful protesters as a cover to seed chaos in the capital. Hundreds of activists are hoping to fool police by pretending to be part of legitimate demonstrations, before breaking off and storming city banks, according to the London Evening Standard which says it infiltrated an anarchist leaders meeting yesterday. Other reports have revealed that the SAS is being readied to react to any “terrorist” activity. Rather bizarrely, it has also been revealed an entire network of central London’s wireless CCTV cameras will be turned off during the protests because they have been deemed to be illegal. |

Story is 3 hours old by the way and all the video's are uploaded by the same site, you'd expect some more sources by now. I vote hoax. |

part of me is the sceptic and thinks it's fake, but if they shut down the cctv's and all they could control what goes out on the news, it could be nasty, any one know of an indy think with footage??? that's what is needed, although if it's chaos those producing the footage have some real good staying calm during a riot (maybe?).
i will remain sceptical for now, confirmation is needed.

No matter how much control they have over the BBC and all the other networks, you can't control hundreds of thousands of cell phones and cameras... you can however control the networks to which these phones are connected to but unless they take down YouTube and a shitload of ISP's, ain't no way they can keep such a big event under wraps. (I'm not referring to that obvious fake above but to whatever might happen)
If the whole internet goes down, then I guess London will be the least of our worries...
