Israeli Magazine Insults Muslims

“You see here a threat, we see here an opportunity”

 by Fighting The Stupid
http://www.uruknet.info/?p=m55058&hd=&size=1&l=e

June 12, 2009

It's gay pride in Tel-Aviv this week and the editors of TIME OUT magazine in Tel-Aviv decided to use an image of Muslims in prayer with the caption, "You see here a threat, we see here an opportunity."

I wanted to see if any major news organization in the U.S. and other Western countries picked this story up, but my search proved futile. I did not find one single news item on this. It's amusing and sad at the same time that something so insulting and homophobic gets ignored by the same media that went after Miss California for saying marriage should only be between a man and a woman. When it comes to insulting Muslims it seems that no one gives a crap and a blind eye is turned.

Haneen Maikey from Palestinian Al-Qaws organization said it best:

"Opportunities of what, we ask? "To f**k Islam"? "To f**k Muslims"? Is it because "they are a threat"? Or they are "exotic"? Is this an opportunity to "f**k" the "enemy" and stab them in the back as they pray? Is anyone who turns their back an "opportunity" for rape?

"Your celebratory front page mocks and humiliates Islam and Muslims by sexually objectifying their prayers, and it disseminates racist and violent messages. In this image, on the one hand, Islam is portrayed as a "threat", a religion and people we must fear from and be repulsed by; on the other hand, the Muslim men praying are sexual objects. Such representation would not have been accepted if it was humiliating other religions. If such representation was of Jewish people, there would have been, rightfully, a storm of strong resistance."

Un-freaking-believable!

Here's where you can send a letter in protest:

Hello,

I personally do not see Islam as a threat.  The only threat that is happening comes from the side of Israel.  They are double faced 100% of the time and do not care an inkling of what anyone says or does.  Sure, they may slow down their killing-war spree for a time when things get heated up, but far be it from them that they will ever stop their torturing, their hatefulness, their arrogance towards other human life.  The Israelis are constantly breaking the UN Resolutions and no one seems to care.  That is why they get away with the majority of the stuff they do....ok, well, part of why they get away with it, the other part is that they own the UN and as they have quoted many a time "they own America".  I just don't understand why other nations, countries, governments, can't see they hypocrisy.  They are sucked into the vacuum with the rest.

I studied Islam and have found nothing wrong with it.  It isn't a threat to anyone.  Those who don't know about something, usually are to afraid to admit it.  They are afraid of the unknown and tend to mostly take what people say or hear and then they fall into the trap of believing false propaganda, they play it off as something false and the the brainwashing has begun.  It only takes an honest person to look into something especially if you find just the opposite of what the other side is saying against the false propaganda.  Smart people do not just accept something without proof.

Hello,

you're quite welcome ron,

Quote
Peres told Obama that ‘Iran is a threat not just to Israel but the whole world. As Jews, after being subjected to the Holocaust, we cannot close our eyes in light of the grave danger emerging from Iran’. At the annual AIPAC conference Michael Oren, nominated as the next Israeli ambassador to the US, remarked that ‘Israel will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons’. The same message will be delivered in person by Netanyahu when he visits Washington later this month.

The mainstream media is already inside the Israeli narrative. Little is made of the fact that the Arab states and Iran have had to live in the shadow of Israel’s nuclear arsenal for the past four decades. While talking up the ‘Iranian threat’ neither does the media pay much attention to the overwhelming military superiority of Israel at every level. Furthermore, since 1979, the Islamic republic has gone to war only once, to defend itself against attack by Iraq in 1980, whereas Israel has invaded Lebanon twice (1982 and 2006), has attacked Syria once (when it bombed what it claimed was a nuclear site in September 2007) and Gaza many times, culminating in the three week onslaught beginning in late December 2008. To this list must be added its undercover operations, including assassinations, in the occupied territories, Syria and Lebanon.

Going back to 1948, the rhetoric of imminent destruction has been deployed ahead of all of Israel’s wars. Even in the most favorable circumstances it is always Israel which is under threat. Weizmann knew perfectly well that the Zionist forces were in no danger of defeat when he told Truman on April 9, 1948, (the same day that Palestinians were being massacred at Deir Yassin) that the choice ahead of the Jews was ‘between statehood and extermination’. What he told members of the US delegation to the UN was rather different: ‘The Jews had absolutely no fear of the Arabs and he elaborated on this by indicating that the Arab states were so disorganized and weak as to constitute almost the military factor of zero’. In 1956, just ahead of the ‘tripartite aggression’ against Egypt, various representatives of the Israeli government claimed their country was being surrounded by a ‘ring of steel’. In 1967, a few days before the attack on Egypt and Syria, Israel’s ambassador to Washington spoke of genocide and ‘another Munich’, while on the home front Israel’s generals were assuring their Prime Minister that Arab armies were soap bubbles – ‘one pin will burst them’. During the onslaught on Lebanon in 1982, Menahim Begin cast Yasser Arafat as another Hitler. In 2009, that role has now been reassigned to Mahmud Ahmedinejad, with Obama already being set up as a second Chamberlain prepared to give away Israel’s Sudetenland (the occupied territories) to appease Iran. Yitzhak Rabin remarked early in the Carter presidency that Carter was ‘a dangerously inexperienced outsider who looked like giving Israel a lot of trouble before he learned ‘political maturity’’. Now it is Obama who has to be taught. The lobby is already hard at work to block and contain him. During his visit to Washington, Netanyahu will give glib assurances of working for peace, but neither he nor Avigdor Lieberman have any intention of withdrawing from the West Bank and East Jerusalem (or the Golan Heights for that matter). Very early in his presidency Obama is already facing a challenge that may define it.

This is what really makes my skin boil!  Imagine a little country or ILLEGALLY OCCUPIED COUNTRY, having all three types of mass destructive weapons and USING THEM, and then say that their neighbor who has NONE is a threat to them.  They are scared and they want to wipe Iran off the face of the map.  In Iran, there are Jews residing and have been for decades and they haven't caused any threat to anyone and they still have a large community there.  The Zionists do not take that into consideration, they just want Iran gone and move onto Syria, etc.  Is all in their plan to occupy the Middle East.  It is so obvious that they don't care about anyone but their own greedy agenda that to them, must be carried out.

Iran has its advantages and disadvantages, which country doesn't.  But what right does one country have to dictate to another how they should live their lives?  Nosiness, greediness, arrogance, and meanness is what is happening and people just don't give a hoot!  Imagine how the native Americans felt when things were taken from them....all in the name of freedom?  huh!  Such audacity by the tons!

Israel/Jews ALWAYS use the situation of the Holocaust as their PITY PLAY on words to get people to feel sorry for them.  Enough is Enough!  We know what happened, we don't need to be reminded of their history to feel sorry, but they are NOW DOING WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM TO OTHERS!!! It is all a play on words.  Yes, horrible tragedies happened back then, but to push it in people's faces, homes, work, and other ways of getting their messages across to make "gain" on their side, is sickening.  I am almost now to the point of they deservin what they got!  BUT then again, I have feelings and say people shouldn't hurt people, people should respect people, it's the Zionists that should be done away with!

Imagine Israel criticizing political leaders as if they have somethin not to be criticized about!  Agh...Israel is so hypocritical and just plain mean and horrible.  I pray that God helps the Palestinian people for they are not the ones at fault and I pray that God gives the Zionists their rewards in agonizing pain.

God forbid!

Israel needs to be dealt with a severe blow.

I am so sick of hearin that the US is committed to Israel's security!  They side along and demobilize a people and blame it on terror activities from within and they are the ones that are committing the terror!  How horrible it must be for the Palestinian people....no home, no money, no food, no clothes, no family and hardly any hope left except for their Creator.  No wonder you have people wantin to hurt Israel!  Ya can't blame them!!

Quote
"The time for playing games is over. No more delaying tactics, no more stalling, no more excuses. It is time for action. Ceasing settlement building is not a Palestinian pre-condition; it is an Israeli obligation. These are terms that Israel has previously committed to," Erekat told IPS.

"We have been assured by (U.S. special envoy to the Middle East George) Mitchell that the U.S. administration will support the legitimate rights of the Palestinians," Erekat said. "(U.S. President Barack) Obama too has reiterated his commitment to a two-state solution and a halt to settlement building."

This is a blatant disregard for human life and livelihood.  They are cleansing Palestine and no one is stopping them.  The US will not...and omg what I read that Antiwar.com brings us news that Israeli minister Yossi Peled is seeking sanctions and regime change… against the USA!  What is this lol  imagine tryin to influence Americans and wantin to cut ties with the US lol what a joke...aint never gonna happen!  Israel needs US' backing all the way so it is good for them to whine a bit.  Sheesh, these people are nothin but a joke.

Is horrible real horrible to take away a person's home and relatives.  They need to be dealt with.

The Belgian-French financial group Dexia has announced it will no longer finance Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories through its Israeli branch Dexia Israel. This is the result of a months-long campaign in Belgium, supported by NGO’s, political parties, local authorities, trade unions and other organisations. Dexia’s management states that financing Israeli settlements is indeed against the bank’s code of ethics and it will stop giving loans due to this.

At least they woke up!

Hello,

I watched Netanyahu on AlJazeerah last night and it really pissed me off.  He is evading everything that goes with humanity and justice.  He went around every corner as to not give peace.  Oh he talked in the name of peace ONLY FOR HIS SIDE AND GREED, but gave no opportunity or outlet for the Palestinian.  He was so one sided it was pathetic and it was as if he was only sayin these things to his right wing party and not to anyone else!  He is one of the biggest hypocrites around.

Imagine sayin that Palestine must acknowledge Israel as a state and yet he doesn't want to even acknowledge Palestine as one.  Oh he says he's pullin out of Gaza and yet all the borders are patrolled and locked, no one goes in or out, checkpoints for everything managed by military and they say, "Oh we are not INSIDE"....what do they think we are stupid???

He says that the Palestinians must acknowledge Israel and yet Israel doesn't want to acknowledge Palestinians.  He said if there is to be peace that they are to be demilitarized, no airspace, no recognition of hamas and yet if they don't oblige that there will never be peace!  What the!  Yet, they have all three mass destructive weapons, HAVE USED THEM, have air and water space controlled, and they criticize hamas as a terror group when they kill, torture, injure, and tear down homes and destroy families!!!  What hypocrisy!!!!  Agh and he thinks he is speakin so openly and honestly???!!!!!  AND THEN THEY CLAIM THEY WANT PEACE?Huh  Yeah as long as they can control the other side their peace is fine.  If they can't have control, then there is no peace.  What kind of hogwash, no good for nothin, low down heathens that they are, do they think they are tryin to fool?!

His speech was the same.  No peace.  It is so blatantly obvious!  They will never want peace and they want to dictate the Palestinians as they wish and how they wish.  This isn't peace, this is dictatorship...and they are doin it illegally and no one cares!!!!  He uses the Jewish religion as a front, but we all know that the real Judaism doesn't even recognize what Netanyahu is doing!  They know that what Israel is doing is against Judaism and all for Zionism.  Yet Israel is STILL tryin to fool the west and Europe and the world into thinkin they have every right to be there and that Palestinians were never there.!  God he is mistaken in History...then he brings up the Holocaust and the suffering....WHO CARES ANYMORE~!  Especially when they use it as a strategic method.  All bull crap if ya ask me.

I wish people would wake up and see the real picture and to see all the lies and false allegations put out there by them!

agh!

Prussia on the Mediterranean

15/06/2009 09:36:00 AM GMT
http://aljazeera.com/news/articles/39/Prussia_on_the_Mediterranean.html

(thewe.cc) Harsh repression of Palestinian citizens is a deeply engrained practice in Israel.

With a far-right government that is determined to avoid serious negotiations with the Palestinians the contradictions of a nation that claims to be both Jewish and democratic are fraying.

By Roane Carey

It is an assumption almost universally acknowledged among the liberal American intelligentsia that while the Israeli occupation is repressive and abhorrent, Israel itself is an open, fully democratic state with a lively, argumentative and very free press.

Perish the thought. After spending three months in Israel on a fellowship, I can say that nearly every member of the liberal Israeli intelligentsia I've talked to says something quite different: that their country's media are seriously diseased, failing to provide the minimal level of fair reporting and serious critical inquiry that are crucial pillars of an open society.

Americans who don't read Hebrew or watch Israeli television news may get a skewed view of the spectrum, assuming that Ha'aretz, the smaller-circulation daily read mostly by intellectuals and the political classes -- and foreigners, who devour its English-language edition online -- is representative, and that critical columnists and reporters like Gideon Levy, Akiva Eldar and Amira Hass are sprinkled throughout the Israeli media. It isn't, and they aren't. The larger-circulation dailies Yediot and Ma'ariv, as well as the Jerusalem Post and television news, are tilted much more to the right -- just like the mainstream U.S. media, which certainly have nothing to teach Israel in this regard.

And as for being an open, fully democratic state, most people I talk to speak of a chilling of dissent in recent years, running in parallel with the election of increasingly right-wing governments. The nadir came during the recent Gaza "war." I've seen a microcosm of this myself here in Beer-Sheva, at Ben-Gurion University. A few days ago, Noah Slor, who is in the graduate program in BGU's department of Middle Eastern studies, was arrested by police at the request of campus security and detained for several hours for quietly handing out leaflets opposing a bill now before the Knesset that would make it a criminal offense to commemorate Nakba Day (the day in May when Palestinians mourn the catastrophe of their dispossession and expulsion, which for Jews is a celebration of independence). She was doing this in a spot right outside the main campus gate, where students traditionally hand out everything from party announcements to information about political rallies, with never a bother from security.

Student activists and professors attest to a pattern of politically motivated harassment by campus security. Indeed, Slor, an activist with Darom le Shalom (the South for Peace), a recently formed group of Arabs and Jews in the Beer-Sheva area who "struggle against racism and for equality and coexistence between Arabs and Jews," told me that at the time of her arrest, a security officer told her, "Listen, don't pretend you're so naïve -- I've seen you in past demonstrations. Everything is recorded and written, everything is documented." She can't prove it, but she's convinced security went after her because she were protesting the Nakba Day legislation; "that was the subtext," she told me.

The students were not going to take this sitting down. That same night, about sixty or so held a demonstration protesting the arrest, gathering at a university ceremony attended by the board of governors and other dignitaries. The students put masking tape over their mouths and held up signs saying "The Security Department Runs the University" and "Security Department = Secret Police." (In a response to questions about the incident, university spokesperson Amir Rozenblit said students are not allowed to distribute fliers on campus -- why in the world not? -- and that Noah was handing them out "in an area considered part of the campus" -- even though it was outside the main gate. He also claimed one security guard was detained as well as Noah.)

The stifling of dissent was pervasive during the Gaza campaign. Nitza Berkovitch, a BGU sociologist, said, "I think the media was completely and truly mobilized. There was complete support of the war." A few days after the start of the war, in late December, a group of Arab and Jewish students held a peaceful demo against it. The police soon arrived and demanded that they disperse. They agreed, but as they were folding their signs, several were tackled by police, dragged to cars and held for hours, accused of "rioting." There was another demonstration in mid-January, this one even more moderate, with people holding signs calling for peace and an end to violence on both sides. Again, the same thing happened: dozens of police arrived and roughed up the crowd, arresting several. One BGU student, Ran Tzoref, was put under house arrest for a month.

Harsh repression of Palestinian citizens is a deeply engrained practice in Israel. Recent incidents indicate there may be a loosening of constraint on repression of Jewish dissent as well. Hundreds of Israelis were arrested for protesting the Gaza campaign, probably most of them Palestinian but many Jewish as well. Tzoref told me, "I was in protests in the occupied territories, and they acted the same here. For me it was shocking that riot police came to the university and attacked us. This was never done before, not on this scale." Berkovitch said, "It was like I was in a South American dictatorship. It was as if an arbitrary order had been given nationwide that a certain number of people needed to be arrested -- it was a simple matter of intimidation."

Certainly the Gaza campaign brought out the worst in the apparatus of repression, which was fueled by a public mood of vengeance and hatred of Palestinians, which was itself heightened by the Hamas rocket barrages. (Berkovitch told me that many passers-by at the January demonstration shouted abuses at the protesters, calling them traitors and saying things like "Jews should kill more Arabs." "So much hatred I've never encountered in my life," she said.) The trends are worrying, but it should be emphasized that in general, Israeli Jews, unlike Palestinians, still enjoy a remarkable degree of freedom to speak out on almost any issue.

With a far-right government that is not only determined to avoid serious negotiations with the Palestinians but is actively promoting settlement growth; that shows all the signs of preparing for war against Iran and is actively stoking public paranoia on that front; that increasingly sees Palestinian citizens as a menace, as the enemy within, the contradictions of a nation that claims to be both Jewish and democratic are fraying. How can a state that imprisons 4 million Palestinians behind ghetto walls, bypass roads and a blockade, and treats another 1.5 million as second-class citizens, be democratic? BGU geography professor Oren Yiftachel calls Israel an ethnocracy (the title of a recent book of his); the late Hebrew University sociologist Baruch Kimmerling called it a "Herrenvolk democracy." Whatever you call it, if Israel continues along its current path, the repression will necessarily intensify, and the avenues for free expression will become ever more constricted. The old joke about Prussia was that it was an army masquerading as a state. Is Israel destined to become Prussia on the Mediterranean?

-- Roane Carey, is managing editor of The Nation magazine and has been on fellowship at the Chaim Herzog Center for Middle East Studies and Diplomacy at Ben-Gurion University in Beer-Sheva, Israel. He is co-editor of The Other Israel (New Press).

The truth behind Depleted Uranium (DU) Contamination and its usage

by Peter Eyre

http://www.uruknet.info/?p=m55121&hd=&size=1&l=e

London, June 14, 2004 (Pal Telegraph) -There has been significant publicity about the use of Depleted Uranium (DU) munitions, its ability to travel very long distances and the consequences to our health.

So where does DU come from, why is it used in munitions, what do such weapons look like, and what is their application in today's warfare?

Although it was widely believed that DU munitions were used extensively during the Balkans War (1991-2001) it didn't show its true face until the occurrence of an accident at a military camp in Kuwait. in 1991. Events prior to this accident had started intense US military activity in the region as a result of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait on the 2nd of August 1990. Iraq forces had occupied Kuwait for seven months and in February the following year saw Operation Desert Storm liberate Kuwait. At the request of the Kuwaiti Government the United States sent re enforcements to the region in order to stabilise Kuwait and secure its borders. It was obvious at the time that this build up was showing clear signs of some other hidden agenda in the build up to an attack on Iraq.

It was reported in the NY Times on the 19th of May 1991 that Dick Cheney had emphasized that the move was temporary and said: "It is our objective to get them out as quickly as possible. And the president's made it clear we don't want a permanent long - lasting ground presence in the gulf." It is ironic that 18 years later US Forces are still deeply emended in Iraq with clear intentions of permanent bases within Iraq.

On the 11th of July 1991, an explosion ripped through a United States ammunition depot referred to as Camp Doha killing and injuring both US and British forces. There were many cases of shrapnel wounds that would lead to further misery of those injured. The NY Times reported that the explosion incinerated nearby vehicles and tore the roof off the British headquarters building. The walls of several warehouses used as barracks for American and British soldiers were riddled with holes.

US Forces run for their lives as weapons explode

This terrible accident revealed for the first times the horrors and usage of Depleted Uranium (DU). Panic took hold of those living in the camp as the many explosions peppered the entire area with fragments of DU munitions. Those troops unfortunate enough to be injured by shrapnel or who had inhaled the dust were about to launch themselves on a very uncertain future of pain and suffering, many of whom would die from the effects of Low Level Radiation Poisoning.

For the first time the public were able to witness the grave danger of Depleted Uranium that had now contaminated the immediate area as well as drifting on the wind to locations further afield. This accident also for the first time revealed the warheads that are so distinctive with DU munitions. Spread over the remains of these explosions were the Depleted Uranium Rods and Sabots that frequently remain at many locations around the world and have been found in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The DU rod (warhead) normally does not survive an impact unless the target area hit is soft. When such rods hit solid metal or concrete they turn into an aerosol of fine DU Dust particles that appears as a dark black-dark grey cloud. Once airborne it then takes its deadly course of contamination. The health problems associated with DU and the very fine particles will be covered in another article. You can clearly see in the picture below the telltale DU Rod and Sabot that survived this accident.

The evidence is revealed (DU Rods and Sabots survived the inferno)

On July 11, 1991, at about 10:20 a.m., says a Pentagon inquiry, a defective heater in an M992 ammunition carrier loaded with 155mm artillery shells caught fire and set off a sustained series of explosions and fires. The blaze and blasts sent chemicals and radiation dust from munitions and tanks into the air for miles, as the black hazardous smoke rose high into the sky.

As a result this accident the Government of Kuwait insisted that the United States Government remove the contamination and return it back to the US. A total of 6,700 tons of contaminated sand with particles of depleted uranium and lead from Kuwait was shipped in April to the Port of Longview in Washington. The barrels were then transferred to railway cars for final delivery to the American Ecology Corporation's Idaho's Grand View low-level radiation waste facility, 70 miles southeast of Boise in the Owyhee Desert.

During the Balkans War DU weapons were used by US and NATO forces and despite overwhelming evidence being found, those forces to this day denounce their usage.
What I have found in my research is that although this evidence was conclusive the authorities that carried out the enquiry, research and investigation covered up the true story behind this evil weaponry.

Many thousands of US, NATO troops, innocent civilians, recovery and clean up teams have had their lives changed forever by the contamination from these munitions. Many have since died from an array of radiation sicknesses and those that have survived continue to suffer indescribable pain and suffering. This has in many cases damaged their reproductive organs resulting in higher still births and badly disfigured babies. As was the case with Agent Orange (another US manufactured product) in Viet Nam the trend continues in their siblings passing this on down the line.

As we have seen in the picture above the deadly DU penetrators frequently survive impact and is subject to if the point of contact is hard or soft. If it is hard the DU Penetrators turns in DU dust but if the contact is soft i.e. soft structures or fields the penetrator remains in tact. In the case of Camp Doha they did not make contact with anything and because of the fact it is a heavy metal, like tungsten it readily reveals itself.
During the Balkans investigation these telltale signs revealed an array of munitions. Both large and small penetrators where found in areas of soft target and this is because of the size of the many munitions used such as Missiles, Bombs, Shells and Bullets. Other evidence that also reveals a connection with DU is that frequently after some time and subject to the weather conditions the fragment or item will have traces of yellow on the fragment or casing. Uranium in its raw state is called "Yellow Cake" hence the traces of yellow. Likewise with copper we see after some time that the copper colours changes to a greenish blue. The final evidence is in taking readings from the items or impact area and a soil sample. Upon return to the laboratory on can commence exhaustive tests by using modern equipment whilst at the same time other medical tests can be carried out of the victims.

It is the type of testing carried out by UN, WHO and other Government agencies that gives rise to grave concerns as to the authenticity of the resultant reports especially in regard to the medical aspects of the tests. As I have previously reports one method used is the ICRP Biokinetic Model which primarily is used in conjunction with "Heavy Dose of Radiation Contamination" It is totally Unsuitable for testing "Low Level Radiation" especially in cases of inhalation and ingestion by humans.

Major failings off all those involved in such investigations is evident as well as their use (in some cases) of totally unsuitable or obsolete apparatus. I can repeat this story time and time again, as in the case of Afghanistan and Lebanon but to no avail.

The US, NATO and IDF deny the use of DU in both countries and yet the same evidence still keeps coming to the surface.

So what now with Gaza? We have the UN War Crimes Investigation Team currently underway but what will they find? What will they choose not to find? What will be the final outcome? Could it again be a denial by the IDF that they did not use DU? Could it be a denial that the US did not export such weapons to Israel? And finally I believe that Israel itself is producing or modifying such weapons at its own nuclear facility. Is anyone brave enough to ask them to reveal their nuclear capability and exactly what is going on in such places as the Negev Desert Facility?

The UN like its predecessor, The League of Nations, is extremely weak and vulnerable to the powers that control it i.e. The Security Council. They can have vast sums of money withheld if they don't tow the line! Their leader is also fragile and without substance so will it fail like its predecessor or can we as individuals insist that it does its job correctly?

In the case of Gaza we now see an opportunity to test the system and make sure that the final outcome proves that not only was DU used in the strip but also continues to be used. We can make sure that the War Crimes reach a successful conclusion and that Gaza and the Palestinian can at long last see true justice. It is then just a case of giving them full sovereignty rights at the UN and for Palestine to be free.

I had the misfortune of watching the speech by the jewish benyamin netanyahu, addressing some right wing, jewish crowd, in some right wing jewish university, set up on Arab stolen land. I swear to God, my stomach was queazy while watching this despicable ugly face and the ugly crowd that applauded him.

I am now convinced that the jews are not interested in any form of peace. They were never interested historically in any form of peaceful entente with other people and today even more so...

Has anyone heard the speech ? A disgrace, but then everything the jews undertake is a disgrace.

Why am I calling them jews and not zionists ? Simple.

a) over 95% of the jews voted for this israeli government.

b) this jewish society as represented by its government wants the whole world, in particular the Arabs and the Palestinians to, not only recognize the right of the state of israel to exist, but to also recognize that the state of israel is the all jewish state for the all jewish people. "Israel is the jewish state for the jewish people." These are not my words - these are the words of netanyahu.

So in effect what the jews are asking is not only the recognition of their illegal state, an illegal racist, criminal, entity built on stolen land, built by terrorism, built on Arab bodies and blood, but also the acceptance and recognition of the jewish zionist project in its entirety, past, present and future...

So from today onwards, this group will be not be referred to as zionists, but simply as jews since this is how they want to be recognized.

You want the word jew as a race to figure - it will.

The jewish government has not given us anything new and frankly I was not expecting anything new from this lot.

First, netanyahu said that his jewish nation was interested in unconditional peace with Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, to develop economic ties, tourism, water treaties...that is the only thing that jews love - money. This is their golden calf. This is their god.

And he added that it is incumbent on the Arabs and the Palestinians to recognize not only israel's right to exist but to also recognize it as the jewish nation for the jewish people.

He argued that historically, all the prophets (Ibrahim, Yacoob, Mussa, Ishaac, Soleiman...) came from this land, and all were jews like him. Hence the jewish people being so faithul to their prophets, and to the message of their prophets are automatically entitled to this land from a zillion years ago.

I, as a muslim, argue that those same prophets are mentioned in the Koran as muslims, and therefore this land belongs to us. So how does it look now ? It looks good to me.

So following, this line of logic, these are the points to retain from this despicable jewish character speech.

- Jerusalem shall remain the eternal capital of the jews.

- the Palestinian refugees should settle permanently in the countries they are in. In other words there is no right of return for the Palestinians.

- the Palestinian will have their own state but unarmed, with its own flag and "culture" - of course the jews stole a lot from the Palestinian culture, along with their lands. They stole food, music, even the traditional Palestinian dress..

- there was no mention of the ever expanding jewish settlements.

- and any future Palestinian state should be monitored by the jews so they can ensure that it will not cause an existential threat to them...

netanyahu then went to talk of all the great sacrifices the jews did for peace, what brilliant contributors they are to culture, civilization and science, how much they were persecuted in Europe and the Arab world, and he endlessly quoted ben gurion and t.herzl...and added that if the jewish state was born before 1948, maybe the millions of jews would have not perished in europe.

So basically netanyahu in his typical jewish way was arguing for the jewish zionist existential necessity, regardless...

Frankly, the nazi are like choir boys compared to the jews.

This group called the jews are the most arrogant, paranoid, psychopathic, neurotic, dishonest, racist, lot that I have ever seen..They always play the victim, the persecuted ones and they do nothing but victimize, terrorize and persecute others...

But I have a road map for the jewish/israeli - Arab /Palestinian conflict. A very simple one.

I recognize the right of the jews to exist, but in their own countries, right where they came from...

In other words, this means that every single European jew will have to f**k off back to Eastern Europe or whatever dump he/she emerged from. Ditto for the American jew, ditto for the African jew, ditto for the Arab jew (from Yemen, Morocco, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon) - f**k off back to your original countries and only then can you talk of your right to exist as a jew. But as long as you are living on stolen land, terrorizing, displacing, demolishing, appropriating and murdering Arabs, then there is not right for you to exist in my book.

I told you it was simple.

lol yikes the last paragraph...but that is what many Americans say to many Arab Americans, Latinos, etc.  AS IF THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO TALK...look what they did to my anscestors~!

I think she is on the right track lol  If things were done in accordance to law and order, Israel would not be where it is now and they know it.  They had the help of many to get where they are now.

Report: 300,000 Palestinians facing home demolitions

Ma'an News
http://www.uruknet.info/?p=m55202&hd=&size=1&l=e

June 16, 2009

Bethlehem – Ma’an – Over 300,000 people are facing house demolitions in the occupied Palestinian territories, a report issued this week by the UK charity Save the Children says.

"House demolitions in the OPT have escalated and thousands of families and in some cases entire villages remain under the threat of bulldozers arriving to destroy their homes and being displaced any day," said Salam Kanaan, Save the Children Country Director in the occupied Palestinian territory (OPT) in a statement.

The new report is titled "Broken Homes," and was also authored by Palestinian Counseling Centre (PCC), and Welfare Association.

Since house demolitions started in 1967 it is estimated that the Israeli civilian and military authorities have destroyed over 24,000 homes. However, since 2000 the number of homes being destroyed has escalated with an average of more than a 1,000 homes demolished every year, Save the children said.

This year (2009) has seen a massive increase, with more homes being destroyed than at any time since the Israeli occupation began 40 years ago, the organization said. Nearly 4,000 homes were destroyed as a result of the military offensive in Gaza at the start of the year.

"The majority of house demolitions are carried out for so called 'administrative’ reasons or as a result of military operations," said Kanaan. "Families lose everything when their homes are demolished; clothes, food and furniture are all buried in the rubble. There is precious little help for these families who are left with nothing, no support, no protection."

Among the facts stated in the report are:

More than half (52%) of the homes were demolished in a collective demolition where a series of homes or neighborhood was razed

Two people were killed during the demolition of their homes

Only 13% of families had a chance to collect their belongings before demolition began
97% of parents are at risk of a mental breakdown as a result of their homes being demolished

Children whose homes have been demolished show a decline in their mental health, suffering classic signs of trauma, becoming withdrawn, depressed and anxious

The majority of families whose houses were demolished were repeatedly displaced for long periods of time - over half the families (61%) took at least two years to find somewhere permanent to live

Over a quarter of families had to split up so they could all find somewhere to stay.

Once a house is demolished, the family not only loses their home and its contents but is also liable for the costs of the actual house demolition. This can run into thousands of dollars.

East Jerusalem residents, rural communities in the West Bank, Bedouin, and refugees living in camps, communities close to the Separation Wall or settlements, and areas near Gaza’s borders are at the greatest risk of displacement from building or house demolition. More than 300,000 Palestinians live in these areas.

ISRAEL: Still a destination for human trafficking

IRIN news

TEL AVIV, 18 June 2009 (IRIN) - The latest US State Department report on trafficked persons, released on 16 June, says Israel is still a destination for men and women trafficked for forced labour and sexual exploitation.

Women from the former Soviet Union and China are still being trafficked across the border with Egypt into Israel for forced prostitution by organized criminal groups.

According to local NGOs, such as Isha L’iash and Moked, each year several hundred women in Israel - many of them foreigners - are trafficked within the country for commercial sexual exploitation, according to the report.

In 2006 Israel was put on the US State Department’s Tier 2 watch list and has been described as a "prime destination for trafficking" by both the State Department and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

However, the State Department report recognized Israeli efforts in the past three years: Although the government did not fully comply with minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking, it had made significant efforts to do so, with law enforcement, police activity against traffickers, and the provision of assistance and shelter to victims of sex trafficking.

In 2008, the Israeli government gave US$1.25 million to a local NGO, Ma’agan, which provides shelter to foreign victims of sex trafficking. The funds were used for rent, utility bills, security and medical care. During the year, the shelter assisted 44 women.

Forced labour victims

The report said the Israeli government did not provide most of the forced labour victims with protection services (safe shelter or medical and psychological aid) and recommended that it begin to do so.

Israel lacks a shelter for victims of labour trafficking, including migrant workers who come to the country voluntarily. However, the authorities referred six female victims of forced labour to the Ma’agan shelter during the reporting period.

Workers from China, Romania, Turkey, Thailand, the Philippines, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and India migrate voluntarily and legally to Israel for contract labour in the construction, agriculture, and health care industries. Some subsequently face conditions of forced labour, including the unlawful withholding of passports, restrictions on movement, non-payment of wages, threats, and physical intimidation.

Many recruitment agencies in the workers’ countries of origin and in Israel require workers to pay recruitment fees ranging between US$1,000 and US$10,000. This makes the workers highly vulnerable to trafficking or to becoming victims of debt bondage once they arrive in Israel.

The director-general of the Ministry of Justice, Moshe Shilo, told reporters on 16 June he was satisfied that the report had noted the efforts made by the government and the Justice Ministry.

Attorney Adi Vilinger, human trafficking force coordinator at the Hotline for Migrant workers, a local NGO working for the rights of migrant workers, refugees and trafficked persons, told IRIN: "We recognize the great progress the government has made in the past three years on the issue of trafficked women from outside Israel, but regret to see that the government has yet to make sufficient progress on the issue of trafficked foreign workers and local Israeli women trafficked inside Israel for sexual exploitation. We still have a long road ahead of us."

In March 2009, Israeli police uncovered the largest human trafficking gang to have ever operated in Israel.

The suspected traffickers are accused of smuggling hundreds of women from the former Soviet Union into Israel to work in the sex industry. According to the police, they trafficked over 2,000 women into Israel and Cyprus over a six-year period. They are now on trial.

Israeli troops' own Youtube clips show abuse of Palestinians

Ma'an News
http://www.uruknet.info/?p=m55274&hd=&size=1&l=e

June 18, 2009

Bethlehem – Ma’an – Israeli Border Police troops have uploaded video clips of themselves humiliating Palestinians in the West Bank to YouTube over the past year, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on Thursday.

The newspaper revealed one clip uploaded to the video sharing website in which a Palestinian boy appears slapping himself, while an off-camera voice, ostensibly an Israeli policeman, orders him to say "I love you, Border Police," and "I will f**k you, Palestine," in Arabic.

"The victim is forced to respond to everything he is ordered to do, to the raucous laughter of the cameraman and his friends, all Border Policemen," Haaretz said. The clips are discussed in an article that is to appear in the Haaretz Magazine on Friday.

Watch:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EsVsHvKRac&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Euruknet%2Einfo%2F%3Fp%3Dm55274%26hd%3D%26size%3D1%26l%3De&feature=player_embedded

The paper found, through interviews with Border Police officers that forcing Palestinians to sing is "a common occurrence."

In response to the Haaretz exposé, the Border Police official spokesman was quoted as saying, "The Border Police has made it a personal mission to uphold values of maintaining respect for people and their rights, and the members of the force are taught to respect those values."

Jewish Chabad's Genocidal Morality

The Fanatical US-based Organization Exposed

by Khalid Amayreh

June 19, 2009

"The only way to fight a moral war is the Jewish way. Destroy their holy sites; kill their men, women, children, and even cattle.

"These are not the words of a loony Jewish terrorist, marauding through the hills of the West Bank in search for an elderly Arab peasant or shepherd to kill.

In fact, these words were uttered last week by Manis Friedman, a prominent and highly-respected Chabad-lubavitch rabbi who is widely admired among many Orthodox Jews, especially in the United States.

Writing in response to a question posed by Moment Magazine for its "Ask the Rabbis" feature, the Minnesota-based rabbi argued that "if we followed this wisdom (killing innocent Arab men, women and children), there would be no civilian casualties, no children in the line of fire, no false sense of righteousness, in fact, no war."

He went on, "I do not believe in Western morality. Living by the Torah values will make us the light to the nations who suffer defeat because of a disastrous morality of human invention."

Friedman's views are not marginal or unrepresentative within the Chabad movement — a supremacist worldwide Jewish sect with huge financial and political influence in Israel and North America.

Moreover, Friedman himself is not a fringe rabbi within the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. For many years, he was the English translator for the Lubavitcher Rebb (M. M. Schneurssohn), and at his urging, he founded Beis Chana; a network of campus and schools for Jewish women.

Defending his views, Friedman argued that he was only quoting from the Torah. He further argued that he was not actually urging Israel to kill en mass Palestinian men, women, and children, saying that he only believed that Israel should publicly say that it is willing to "do these things in order to scare Palestinians".

However, a Jewish neighbor by the name of Shmarya Rosenberg, was quoted as saying that "the comment in Moment is not an aberration from his experiences with Friedman and many other Chabad rabbis."

"What he is saying is the standard normal view of Chabadniks. They just do not say it in public," Rosenberg continued.

Nazi-like Movement

If a Jewish sect or movement can be described as "Nazi or Nazi-like", it is the Chabad (or Habad) group, which openly advocates the annihilation of non-Jews in Palestine according to the Biblical model of the Book of Joshua.

Chabad is not a marginal movement within Orthodox Judaism. In both Israel and North America, it has been able to amass tremendous wealth and acquire considerable political influence.

The movement, with which thousands of Israeli soldiers and high-ranking officers are affiliated, views non-Jews as sub-humans or animals in human shape whose lives have no sanctity.

According to the group's manifesto, known as ha’Tanya, as quoted by the late Israeli author and philosopher Yisrael Shahak in his book Jewish History, Jewish Religion: The Weight of Three Thousand Years, all non-Jews are totally satanic creatures in whom there is absolutely nothing good.

"Even a non-Jewish embryo is qualitatively different from a Jewish one."

According to Rabbi Shneur Zalman, the founder of Chabad, the very existence of a non-Jew is inessential whereas all creation was made solely for the sake of Jews.

In ha’Tanya, he claims that "all Jews are good by nature; all non-Jews are evil by nature. The Jews are creation's crowning glory, the non-Jews are the scum of the earth,"(as quoted in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, November 3, 1994, page 14)

Chabad's genocidal racism is not really confined to a small group of religious fanatics as public relations-savvy Zionist spokesmen would claim, especially when talking to the Western media.

In Israel, the murderous hatred toward Palestinians found expression in Israel's recent blitz in Gaza, which killed and maimed thousands of Palestinian civilians, and utterly destroyed thousands of homes, schools, mosques, and other civilian buildings.

According to the Israeli press, some military rabbis regularly encouraged and instigated combat soldiers to "show no mercy to Palestinians".

Avi Rontzki, the Israeli army Chief Rabbi distributed a booklet to soldiers called Go Fight My Fight: A Daily Study of Table for the Soldiers and Commanders in a Time of War, prepared specifically for the Israeli onslaught on Gaza.

In the booklet, Rontzki urged the troops to show no mercy to Palestinians, including civilians.

"When you show mercy to cruelty, you are being cruel to the pure and honest soldiers. These are not games at the amusement park where sportsmanship teaches one to make concessions. This is a war on murderers," he said.

"There is a biblical ban on surrendering a single millimeter of it to gentiles, though all sorts of impure distortions and foolishness of autonomy, enclaves, and other national weakness. We will not abandon it to the hands of another nation, not a finger, not a nail of it," he continued.

Two years ago, Israel's former Chief Rabbi, Mordechai Elyahu, urged the Israeli army and government to employ the Nazi choice against the Palestinians.

He petitioned the Israeli government to carry out a series of carpet bombing of Palestinian population centers in Gaza, arguing that a ground invasion of the world's most crowded spot would endanger the safety of Israeli soldiers.

"If they do not stop after we kill 100, then we must kill a thousand. And, if they do not stop after 1,000, then we must kill 10,000. If they still do not stop we must kill 100,000, even a million; whatever it takes to make them stop."

This was not the first time Elyahu, who is considered one of the most knowledgeable Talmudic sages in Israel, had issued a religious edict urging the Israeli army not to refrain from killing Palestinian children and civilians if that meant saving Jewish lives.

On several occasions, he had urged the army to indiscriminately bomb Palestinian population centers, and pay no attention to possible objections by international public opinion.

Elyahu was a student of Rabbi Abraham Kook who is widely considered the main mentor of modern religious Zionism as well as the settlement movement known as Gush Emunim (the Bloc of Faithful).

Yair Sheleg, a noted Israeli writer, quoted Kook as writing that "the difference between the Jewish soul and the souls of all non-Jews, no matter what their rank and level of understanding, is bigger and deeper than the difference between the human soul and the animal soul."

Again, these venomous teachings are often translated into ugly acts of murder of innocent Palestinians both by Israeli soldiers and fanatical Jewish settlers.

More than two years ago, a Jewish immigrant from France murdered in cold blood an Arab taxi driver from East Jerusalem after beguiling the unsuspecting victim to take him to Netanya.

The murderer, named Julian Soufir, had apparently been subjected to heavy doses of religious indoctrination at a synagogue near his home. He told police interrogators that "I just wanted to kill an Arab. There is no difference between killing an Arab and killing an animal. When I killed him, I felt I was slaughtering a sheep." Soufir has been transferred to a mental hospital and his lawyer is demanding that he be let free!!

Dishonest Approach

Indeed, apart from a minority of courageous Israeli writers and intellectuals, people such as Shahak and the vast majority of the Israeli intelligentsia — religious and secular alike — have carefully refrained from dealing seriously with this issue of Jewish racism toward non-Jews.

The classical reaction of Jewish leaders to virulent remarks by rabbis such as Manis Friedman usually takes the form of claiming that these views only represent a small minority, and in no way reflect or represent the teachings of Judaism.

Of course, this is true — in a certain sense. After all, God never taught Moses, May peace be upon him, that "to kill the best of gentiles…Kill them all," as Shimon Hatsodek taught, nor did the Almighty taught that Jews or even Israelites were biologically superior to other human beings.

But this does not mean that racist Jewish ideas, including Chabad's Nazi-like genocidal system of thinking, are not rife among hundreds of thousands of Jews in Israel and abroad.

Today, the Israeli coalition government headed by Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu includes religious parties such as ha'Bayt ha'Yahudi (the Jewish House), which openly calls for the expulsion, enslavement, or extermination of Palestinians.

Leaders of another party represented in the Israeli Knesset, ha'Ichud ha Leumi (the National Union) declare openly that non-Jews are not real human beings.

For example, National Union leader Aryeh Eldad on several occasions urged the Israeli army not to "treat 'real human beings' (the settlers) as it did Arabs."

Finally, one cannot leave this important subject without making an earnest call upon all honest and well-meaning Jews to openly and sincerely condemn the manifestly criminal discourse of Chabad.

Jews cannot really raise their voices aloud against anti-Semitism while keeping silent — or even finding excuses for — virulent racism coming from Jews themselves.

In the final analysis, racism does not become kosher when practiced by Jews.

Why is this terrorist rabbi walking freely, and using hate speech instead of being locked down along with the Arabs in Gitmo?

First of all, this is not the same as the real Judaism.  Zionism has nothing to do with the original Judasim.  The real Jews do not accept what is happening in Israel as part of Judaism and they actually protest against it.  Is sad too.  Those Jews in Israel that vote for their govt., do not understand exactly the difference maybe some do, but many have to vote and there isn't really anything to vote against.  They live there and no where else so ya gonna have an outcome of whatever.  Many Jewish settlers are being paid to live in the settlements.  So, I guess it is a bribe in a way.  But either way, Zionists, ZIONISM, IS HORRIBLE and is ruining people's lives, lands, countries, governments, economical circumstances, and science.  They must and should be stopped.

They are hateful people and don't care about no one but themselves.

Solitary Confinement Prescription for Slow Death or Insanity (Report)

Palestinian Information Center
http://www.uruknet.info/?p=m55451&hd=&size=1&l=e

June 24, 2009

With a voice full of hope for a brighter future, and optimism that the end of suffering is near, the prisoner Hasan Salamah repeated songs he has memorized in order to break the routine of a deadly dull life in cramped isolation cells where mercy is unknown and the only smells are those associated with depression, death or insanity.

The prisoner, Salamah, sentenced to several life sentences, has been held in solitary confinement for six years. The occupation authorities have accused him of responsibility for the deaths of scores of Zionists. He is one of more than 100 Palestinian prisoners being held in isolation cells in various sections of Israeli prisons.  This isolation may continue for many years so as to drill into the prisoner’s mind, body and soul effects which can not be easily erased. The psyche and the body are subjected to ongoing pressure by being deprived of everything, even the simplest conversation with another human being.

Although isolation is a punishment which is supposed to be limited to a specific duration, the occupation has deliberately set no time limits on it so as to crank up the psychological pressure on prisoners. Isolation is periodically extended throughout the period of confinement by means of a kangaroo court known as the Court of Extended Isolation. The prisoner is brought before the court without ever being informed of the reason for his isolation, which is usually based upon a recommendation by the Zionist internal security service, Shin Bet. The prisoner is merely informed that his isolation has been extended on the basis of confidential material. The extension will be for a year if the isolation is partial (i.e., two persons in one cell) and for a period of six months if the prisoner is completely alone in the cell. Throughout this new term the prisoner continues to endure all the forms of suffering he had previously endured until he is brought before a new court in the following year to receive a new extension from the judge for another year for the same reasons (confidential material), and so on, year after year.

Punishment for Leaders!
According to the Ministry of Current and Released Prisoners, in a report on prisoners being held in isolation, the Israeli Department of Corrections imposes the punishment of isolation on those prisoners accused of carrying out major resistance attacks that led to the death of Zionists or on prisoners who are considered leaders of the nationalist movement among the prisoners, whose words carry weight with the other prisoners.

The goal is to humiliate the prisoner, break his will, destroy his psyche, and turn him into a body without a spirit. They are keen to turn him into fertile ground for the spread of debilitating diseases that weaken the bones and impair vision. They want the isolated prisoner to lose both spirit and body, so that he will long for death a thousand times rather than remain stuck within the same walls, talking to himself and counting the hours and days that drag by, waiting to emerge from this dark tomb.

Riyad al-Ashqar, director of the Information Department of the Ministry, explains that isolation is of two types: The first is in individual cells -called snuke- in which a prisoner is held in solitary confinement. These are no bigger than 1.5 × 2 meters, and there is no room to move, walk or pray. There is one mattress, a blanket, one bottle for relieving oneself, and another for drinking water. The prisoner is only allowed to go to the bathroom once a day.

In these cells prisoners lose all sense of time; they do not know the times of prayer or even when day turns to night. They are not allowed to have watches, radios, newspapers, or any means of communication with the outside world, nor are they permitted to purchase anything from the prison canteen.

The second type of isolation is in a wing of the prison completely devoted to isolation cells. The cells in these sections are slightly better than snuke, and are large enough to house more than one prisoner. They have a toilet inside each cell, and prisoners are allowed to prepare food inside the cell.

The Prisoners Subjected to the Greatest Isolation
Al-Ashqar explained that the number of prisoners being held in isolation is more than 100 prisoners in various prisons, with some being held in solitary confinement within the isolation wings of the prisons of Askalan, Ramla, Ayalon, Nafha and Beer Sheba. There are a number of prisoners who have been singled out by the prison management for punishment by isolation on a continuous basis. They are:

- Hasan Salamah, from the city of Khan Younis, has been sentenced to dozens of life sentences. So far he has spent six years in isolation.
 - Hamid Ibrahim, from Silwad, has been sentenced to dozens of life sentences. He has been held in isolation ever since his initial arrest more than three years ago.
 - Mahmoud Eesa, from Jerusalem, has been sentenced to several life sentences. So far he has spent eight years in isolation.
 - Tayseer Samoudi, from Yamoun, has spent more than 14 years being shifted from one isolation cell to another.
 – Mu'taz Hijazi, from Jerusalem, was sentenced to 11 years. So far he has spent six years in isolation.
 - Abd al-Naser Halees has spent more than ten years so far in isolation.
 - Jamal Abu Haija of Jenin, has been sentenced to several life sentences.  So far he has spent four years in isolation.
 - Abdullah al-Barghouthi, of Ramallah, has been sentenced to dozens of life sentences.  So far he has spent five years in isolation.
 - Ahmed al-Maghrabi, from Bethlehem, has been sentenced to several life sentences.  So far he has spent five years in isolation.
 - Mohammed Jamal Natsheh, from Hebron; a member of a Legislative Council, he was sentenced to eight years. He has spent five years in isolation.
 - Uwaydah Kallab from the Gaza Strip, was condemned to life imprisonment. He has stayed more than ten years in isolation.
 - Hisham Sharbati was sentenced to eight years; he has spent three years in isolation.
 - Zaher Jabareen, from Hebron, was sentenced to life imprisonment. He has been isolated more than once; the longest period was for two years.
 – Musa Dudeen, from Hebron, was sentenced to life imprisonment and has been subjected to isolation more than six times.
 - Mahawish Nu'aymat of Rafah has spent more than a year in isolation since his arrest.
 - Mohammed Jaber Ubaydi, of the town of Kafr Ni'ma, has spent four years in isolation.
 - Usamah al-Ainabusi of the town of Tubas.
 - Saleh Dar Musa from the town of Bayt Luqya.
 - Jihad Yaghmour of Jerusalem.

Suffering without Limits
Al-Ashqar identified a number of forms of suffering endured by prisoners confined in isolation cells. Among the most serious is being confined in sections that house common criminals; there they are subjected to every form of abuse, curses, and having flammable liquids thrown at them. They are also subjected to a steady assault on their religious sentiments and continued harassment by loud music, constant drumming on their doors and being repeatedly subjected to prisoner counts at short intervals.

Prisoners are not allowed to go out to the exercise "yard" except one hour a day, and the guards manipulate the timing of that hour so that on bitterly cold days they come at six in the morning to announce that anyone who wants to exercise must wake up. If one prisoner wants to sleep and the other wants to go out, the one who stays must wake up to have manacles placed on his hands so that the other can go out. If he doesn’t wake up, the other will be deprived of the opportunity to go out in the yard. If they both want to go out, manacles are put on both, and they go out one by one. Frequently one of them will be required to remain out in the yard in manacles. Worse still, manacles are a feature of all the details of daily life. Prisoners are handcuffed when the trash is taken out, when receiving visits from lawyers or family members, and when going out to the clinic or the court. The prisoner will be placed on the examination bed and made to lie with his hands under his back. Prisoners are even forced to give urine samples in a most humiliating way while manacled.

The prisoner in isolation is imposed upon in all aspects of life. The prison administration may, for instance, require one prisoner to be paired off with another in cells that are usually cramped and poorly ventilated. The administration will deliberately pair a non-smoker with a smoker or a religious prisoner with a non-religious one to set the prisoners up for 24-hours-a-day of conflict. If one of them tries to protest or get a transfer away from the other, the solution is blows and truncheons. They are forced to live together, and if they refuse, all their personal belongings are confiscated and the cell is converted to a snuke or torture chamber stripped of all personal belongings. More than once the brothers are told, "One of you could get rid of the other by having the other one die."

A prisoner is subjected to the severest penalties if he reads the Qur’an aloud, or breaks anything inadvertently, or speaks with another prisoner in the section. If a piece of metal, wire or string tied for some particular purpose is found in a cell, all electrical devices will be removed from it and the prisoner will be denied access to the canteen and the daily exercise outing. As for visits from family members, these are already prohibited, except in rare cases.

In addition, there are sudden raids in the middle of the night by a special unit wearing masks and equipped with video cameras. They conduct violent searches in which the prisoner is stripped naked for no reason and handcuffed while his personal belongings are broken and trifled with and the room is turned upside down. After the inspection is completed, the door is locked and the prisoner sticks his hands through a large hole in the bottom of the door to have the handcuffs removed. For two or three days after an inspection a prisoner will work to restore order to his room, only to have the same procedure repeated a few days later.

If a prisoner in isolation is afflicted by any health ailment he will have to go through a complicated set of procedures before being able to see a doctor. He will have to register for the clinic several times. Often the isolation section will have a specific day of the week set aside when those prisoners are allowed to go out for clinic visits. If the day is Monday, for example, and the prisoner gets sick on Tuesday, he will have to wait the whole week before being allowed to go to the clinic. If the officer assigned to take him happens to be busy or has the day off, he loses his chance and has to wait for another week. When he does finally get to the clinic he will remain handcuffed during the examination and forced to listen to insults from the doctor and the nurse. If blood tests or imaging are necessary, he will have to wait for months, if he ever gets one.

Isolation wings tend to be unhealthy places with poor ventilation and poor hygiene; rats run on the food, and the rooms are filled with cockroaches and mosquitoes. Worst of all, the daily exercise yard is no more than a room 5 meters longs by 4 meters wide with a cement roof. It gets no sun, and it is not possible to use it for exercise or even a walk, it being frequently filled with the leftovers of the common criminals, such as urine, feces and other filth.

Prisoners in isolation are denied all religious rights such as holidays, Friday prayers, even religious books. A prisoner may even sometimes have his prayer rug taken away. They are, likewise, deprived of family visits and of newspapers.

Psychological effects
The report pointed out that isolation leaves great psychological effects on a prisoner. For years on end he does not see anyone; he is either entirely alone or with one other person, but the two of them cannot mingle with other people. He is subjected to all forms of psychological torture and deprivation, and then when he shows some signs of protest or of being affected by his situation, he is accused of being suicidal. Force is immediately brought to bear; his hands and feet are bound fast to a high iron "perch" on which he sleeps. He is set free only twice a day for half an hour each in the morning and evening to eat and go to the bathroom.

Many international human rights organizations have confirmed that isolation leaves clear, striking psychological effects on prisoners. Some prisoners go insane as a result of isolation from the world for long periods, for humans are by nature social beings; they need to talk with others. Should a person be forcibly deprived of expression of this natural instinct, he will be vulnerable to serious mental illnesses that will affect the course of his life.

The prisoner Uwaydah Kallab from the Gaza Strip was sentenced to life imprisonment and has spent 20 years in Israeli prisons, during which he has been isolated for more than 12 years. This has led to serious mental illness and the loss of mental and legal competence. It has resulted in his inability to recognize his friends in prison. He refuses the visits of his relatives, and he refuses to acknowledge his only son, who was a young child when Uwaydah was taken away and is now a young man.

Afeef Awawidah is suffering a serious psychiatric illness caused by isolation for long periods. The prison administration attempted to exploit the prisoner’s disease by goading him to attack one of his colleagues in isolation. The prisoner Darwish Dawhal is also suffering from a psychological and neurological condition as a result of solitary confinement; he does not wish to talk with anyone or come out of his cell for the daily exercise session.

There are many other prisoners who are suffering from depression and mental illness as a result of isolation from the world for long periods. The situation calls for a serious stand to stop this criminal policy against the prisoners, which is in contravention of humanitarian conventions. The ministry is calling for immediate intervention by international institutions to curb the Israeli policy of punishing our male and female prisoners by isolation, and to improve the living conditions in prisons to bring them in line with the requirements of international law. They need to do that before they make demands of the Palestinians to release Corporal Gilad Shalit or allow him a visit by the Red Cross.

Israel threatens church convents with self-demolition

Ma'an News

http://www.uruknet.info/?p=m55526&hd=&size=1&l=e

June 27, 2009

Bethlehem - Ma’an - At least 500 homes leased by the church to Christian families in the Old City are under threat for self-demolition orders by the Israeli Jerusalem municipality, church officials said Saturday.

According to a statement from the Jerusalem Inter-Church Centre there are currently four suits underway where Christian families leasing church land or buildings are being told to tear down alleged renovations on their homes.

Bassam Ayyash, who rents a 50 square meter apartment from the Greek Orthodox Church inside the Patriarchate's convent, received a demolition order claiming that this 50 square meter apartment is an expansion to his home. According to the church, "Bassam is puzzled with the persistence of the authorities in not agreeing to come and investigate the matter." "My only home is the 50 square meter apartment."

Another defendant, Sami Wakileh, recalls the Judge at the Israeli court telling him, when he went seeking a permit for a renovation in his home, "It is a waste of your precious time. Do not dream of receiving any permit…" Sami's house is, according to a church statement, an old building that he leased from the Church and spent over 100,000 US dollars to fix and renovate.

Most of the homes under threat are owned by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate and the Catholic Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land.

One church leader blamed the increasing difficulty in obtaining permits to build homes, as well as the issue of family reunification where West Bank Palestinians are prohibited from living with their spouses in Jerusalem, for the drop in the number of marriages last year.

Father Ibrahim Faltas, the Roman Catholic Parish priest of Jerusalem, said the number of Catholic marriages in 2009 is almost half the number registered in previous years.

Gaza: 1.5 Million People Trapped in Despair

29/06/2009 12:52:08 PM GMT

http://aljazeera.com/news/articles/34/Gaza_15_Million_People_Trapped_in_Despair.html

Gaza: 1.5 Million People Trapped in Despair Date : 29/6/2009   Time : 11:31

GENEVA/JERUSALEM, June 29, 2009 (WAFA)- Six months after the end of Israel 's military operation in Gaza , the people living there find themselves unable to rebuild their lives and are sliding ever deeper into despair, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said.

A new ICRC report on the situation in Gaza shows that people are increasingly struggling to make ends meet and that seriously ill patients are not getting the treatment they need. The report also shows that thousands of Gazans whose homes and belongings were destroyed half a year ago remain without adequate shelter.

The report identifies the stringent restrictions on movements of persons and goods into and out of Gaza over the two past years as one of the main causes of the crisis in the territory, and argues that almost 4.5 billion dollars pledged for reconstruction by donor countries will be of little use as long as building materials and other essential items cannot be imported into the Gaza Strip.

It shows that essential water and sanitation infrastructure remain largely insufficient: every day the equivalent of 28 Olympic-size swimming pools of sewage is pumped directly and more or less untreated into the Mediterranean . Hospitals are struggling because complex and lengthy Israeli import procedures slow down the delivery of basic medical necessities such as painkillers and X-ray film developer.

The closure imposed on Gaza has resulted in soaring unemployment and economic collapse. 'The poorest residents in particular have exhausted their coping mechanisms and often have to sell off their belongings to be able to buy enough to eat,' pointed out Antoine Grand, head of the ICRC's sub-delegation in the territory. 'The declining living standards will have a negative effect on the health and well-being of the population in the long term. worst affected are the children, who make up more than half of Gaza 's population.'

In the report, the ICRC demands that the restrictions on the movement of people and goods be lifted. ' Israel has the right to protect its population against attacks,' said Grand. 'But does that mean that 1.5 million people in Gaza do not have the right to live a normal life?'

Urgent measures mentioned in the report include easing imports of medical equipment, allowing the entry of building materials such as cement and steel, lifting restrictions on exports from Gaza, reopening terminals to improve the flow of people and goods into and out of the territory, allowing farmers access to their land in the buffer zone, and restoring safe access to deeper waters for fishermen.

The ICRC report concludes that humanitarian action can be no substitute for the credible political steps that are needed to bring about the changes the population of Gaza needs. The International Committee calls on the States, political authorities and organized armed groups concerned to do what is needed to reopen the Gaza Strip and safeguard the life and dignity of its civilian population.

Hello,

Yes

I watched Al Jazeerah (En) last night and it was talking about that terrorist group called...hmmm can't remember the name...I think Kinhana or something like that....inside Israel.  They are a weird sort of group (Jewish) and they showed them ranting on and how proud they were to kill the Palestinians, and also hated Sharon for taking them from Gaza and puttin them someplace else.  But the way they portrayed this group, was something...they had one leader drinkin beer and singin a song that they won't be plucked out.  If they went by their own belief, they would know better.

But, ya got many weird and bad people in every part of the globe, of every religion, of every man made religion.

I feel for those who get killed in the name of terrorist activities.  Is wrong.  Muslims get killed everyday because of Zionists.  Christians are bad mouthed, and also ripped of their pride in Palestine and some are homeless as well and killed.  Jews in Palestine haven't really a choice to go by for they themselves are being controlled and brainwashed.

Is sad when you have these three main religions, all taught by messengers of God to believe in ONE GOD (not trinity), to be subjected to such horror and terror.

If people would just be honest.

When Drones Become Indiscriminate

by Jerrold Kessel and Pierre Klochendler

JERUSALEM - The concerted effort of international human rights activists to rein in violations of laws of war was given a major impetus when Human Rights Watch researchers presented a report Tuesday on the unbridled use by the Israeli military of unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCLAV), commonly known as drones, during Israel's 22-day assault on Hamas in Gaza at the beginning of the year.

Entitled 'Precisely Wrong', the Human Rights Watch (HRW) report focuses on six cases of Israeli drone-launched missile attacks in which 29 Palestinian civilians, eight of them children, were killed. Based on cross-referenced eyewitness accounts corroborated by doctors, as well as ballistics and forensic evidence collected on the attack sites, the report asserts that "in none of the cases did HRW find evidence that Palestinian fighters were present in the immediate area of the attack at the time.

Israeli drones fly over the Gaza Strip in January 2009, as seen from Gaza City. According to the US-based Human Rights Watch, Israeli armed drones killed scores of Palestinian civilians during the Gaza war despite their cutting-edge targeting technology.(AFP/File/Mahmud Hams)"These attacks violated international humanitarian law," the report states in unequivocal terms, following a ten-day investigation.

Marc Garlasco, senior military analyst at the emergencies program of HRW, estimates that at least 87 civilians were killed in 42 drone attacks. "Israel's targeting choices are unacceptable and unlawful," he declared at a press conference in East Jerusalem, "especially (considering) that UCLAV provide the most precise platform in the military arsenal, and that Israel is the world leader in drone technology."

The report includes technical information about drones and drone-launched missiles. Israeli drones have advanced sensors, combining radars, electro- optical and infrared cameras, and lasers providing real time imaging by day and night. "Those sensors enable a drone operator to determine if a person on the ground is armed," stressed Garlasco.

In addition to these high-resolution cameras, a missile fired from a drone has its own cameras that allow the operator to observe the target from the moment of firing. "If a last-second doubt arises about a target, the operator can divert the fired missile with a joystick," the report notes.

Everything viewed by the drone operator is recorded. "There is no fog of war with such drones," Garlasco said. "Yet, the Israeli army failed to distinguish between military objectives and civilians."

According to Palestinian sources, 900 civilians were killed during the military operations, among a total of more than 1,400 killed. The HRW report says a third of the fatalities were from drone-launched missiles. Israeli sources put the civilian death toll at 300.

"HRW is not against the use of drone in warfare. Its accuracy and concentrated blast radius can indeed reduce civilian casualties," Garlasco conceded. But "drones, much like sniper rifles, are only as good at sparing civilians as the care taken by the people who operate them."

The Israeli army questions the credibility of the HRW investigation. "The report is based on anonymous Palestinian sources whose knowledge of military issues is doubtful, who are clearly not impartial observers, and who are part of the propaganda machine in Gaza," it said in a statement.

"We conducted interviews separate from Hamas activists," counters Garlasco. "If there were fighters, the interviews were stopped immediately; we just did not use them."

Garlasco acknowledges that the testimonies collected are limited. "Mistakes can happen, but here there is a clear pattern - many civilians were killed. It seems Israeli rules of engagement were very loose - keeping Israeli casualties to a minimum, valuing the lives of soldiers more than those of Palestinian civilians."

The report calls on Israel to conduct a "case-by-case investigation" into the use of drone-launched missiles. "Military or civilian personnel found responsible for committing or ordering unlawful drone attacks should be disciplined or prosecuted as appropriate."

"This report has a look to the future," says Garlasco. "It's a cautionary tell to the U.S. continued use of UCLAV in Afghanistan and Pakistan."

Human rights activists have increasingly voiced their concern over U.S. reliance on a drone-launched missile attack policy. In a stinging report submitted earlier this month to the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council, UN special investigator Philip Alston charged that the U.S. has created "zones of impunity" by rarely investigating private contractors and civilian intelligence agents involved in the killing of civilians from drone attacks. Alston urged that an independent special prosecutor be charged with pursuing criminal allegations against government officials accused of wrongdoing.

"Even when you're attacking a legitimate military objective, you cannot cause civilian casualties that exceed the value of a legitimate military attack," says Garlasco. Still, the reliance on drone tactics - and the strategic cutting-edge drones increasingly provide - may surpass the power of human rights in international forums. Last week, Israel's Channel Two revealed that Israel had conditioned the sale to Russia of a dozen drones, on Moscow not selling Iran advanced anti-aircraft missile technology. Iran has sought to deploy the Russian S300 air defense missile system against a possible Israeli attack on its nuclear facilities.

Moscow became aware of a need for advanced drones during its war with Georgia last summer. Georgia operated Israeli-made spy drones, which proved highly effective. The Russians used a drone of their own without great success. Russian military officials have made no secret of their intention to use Israeli models to improve their drone development program.

Land Theft with False Justifications

by Adib Kawar
http://www.uruknet.info/?p=m55617&hd=&size=1&l=e

July 1, 2009

Arabs call the very Zionist Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, "Nitin ya ho" that is "O you the dirty", but we disagree to a certain extent, because unlike other Zionist politicians, he at least speaks his dirty plans out in the open and says what is going in his head. He openly declares his plans about stealing all of Palestine’s land, and in the end he wants to complete the Zionist ethnic cleansing project that started in 1948, and still continues up to this date, other Zionist politicians were doing the dirty work while giving a form of sweet talk.

But Netanyahu, like other Zionist leaders. on the other hand is relying on the power of the might of arms and declared his plans for completing land theft that was initiated by his so-called leftist predecessors, under unjustifiable excuses, which is like all the Zionist project, with what he called "natural growth"!!! The joke is natural growth of what? He and his fellow Zionist colonialist racist thieves are talking about Zionist colonies that are being built on the 1967 the West Bank land, occupied by the Zionist military forces stationed in the 1948 occupied land and which the enemy forged its named from Palestine into "The State of Israel"!!!

News agencies wrote  "139,000 dunums from Jerusalem’s land shall be confiscated for expending "Maaleih Adomim". It is trying to fool Obama: Freezing colonization for three months!!! 139, 000 dunums to be further stolen to be added to the biggest colony already built on East Jerusalem land which is a part of the occupied West Bank, is this also what Netanyahu calls "natural growth" when many of its completed housing units are not inhabited?!

The Zionist entity forestalled the meeting between its minister of war, Ehud Barak, with the U.S. Presidential special emissary for Middle East, George Mitchell, in New York, and leaked a proposition that ordains the freezing of all settlement activities for a period of three months, with the exception of 200 housing units in the West Bank and Jerusalem, which shall include "natural growth". At the time "Israeli" newspaper "Yadiout Ahronaut" wrote information in this matter, but explained what Barak shall suggest that the freezing shall not include work in 2,000 housing units that are under construction in the West Bank, as well as proceeding in building colonies in East Jerusalem.

The United States, the rest of the western world, the so-called "moderate Arab regimes" and of course the Zionist entity insist on that Hamas government to recognize all previous agreements that "The Palestinian Authority" that had previously accepted and recognized including the "Quartet" (the U.S., E.U., Russia, and the U.N.) in 2003.

The Central Conference of American Rabbis, which represents nearly 2,000 Reform rabbis, including a significant percentage of Brit Tzedek supporters issued a statement in support of President Obama's call for "a complete freeze on settlements", including natural growth, as "in the best interest of the United States, of the State of Israel, and of peace." in answer to the question of What is U.S. and Israeli policy on "natural growth"?  said: The U.S. and Israeli governments agreed to freeze "all settlement activity (including natural growth of settlements)," in Phase One of the Road Map to Peace, signed by Israel, the Palestinian Authority, the "Quartet" (the U.S., E.U., Russia, and the U.N.) in 2003.

But according to Israeli officials, however, the Bush administration, (Former president George W. Bush gave himself the right to rule that the Zionist entity could annex all major blocks of colonies already built in the West Bank!!!) had an oral agreement with Israel that building could continue within the boundaries of certain settlement blocs — under the condition that no new land was expropriated, no special economic incentives were offered, and no entirely new settlements were built.  Former Bush administration officials have given conflicting accounts of these discussions. The Obama administration has said that it will not be bound by informal oral agreements for which Israel can produce no record. In reference to the signed Road Map agreement, the current administration insists that a "settlement freeze" means a complete cessation of all new building in settlements, with no exceptions.

On the other hand the Central Conference of American Rabbis reads in answer to: "Is all settlement expansion for purposes of "natural growth"?

Not to date. According to Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics, 63% of population growth in the settlements in 2007 resulted from "natural growth" (the excess of births over deaths) and 37% of the growth came from immigration (the excess of newcomers moving in over those moving out). Bottom line, there are today more than 50,000 additional settlers living in the West Bank than at the time that the Sharon government signed the Road Map to Peace in 2003."

And proceeds saying: "Overall, the annual population growth in settlements, at 5.6 percent, far outstrips the Israeli average of 1.8 percent. The settlements' disproportionately high level of state-supported building and other subsidized services compared with most regions of Israel has long been used a state-backed incentive to encourage Israelis with or aiming to have large families to relocate to these communities. It's worth noting that within the internationally recognized borders of Israel, there is no such government commitment to provide economical housing for adult Jewish children wishing to remain in the community in which their parents live, nor to provide larger homes for expanding Jewish families."

We take the liberty of quoting long sectors of the article of the "Israeli" journalist and not an Arab enemy of the Zionist entity that was established on his own land: Akiva Eldar, Haaretz Correspondent wrote in an article entitled: "What about the Arabs' natural growth? http://haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1092430.html

"Maybe it is no coincidence that the government spokespeople insist on describing the homes for "sons returning from the army" rather than homes for young couples, or students. Someone might dare to check the housing situation in Arab villages or East Jerusalem, whose residents actually on Israeli soil? as opposed to the settlers."

Eldar added: "Figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics during the years 2006-2007 (the 2008 statistics are not yet available) reveal that natural growth is a matter of geography, and especially of religion and nationality. In terms of housing, the settlers are not the most deprived sector in 'greater Israel’. Their rate of natural growth stands at 3.2 percent per year, which accounts for only a part of the population growth in the settlements, which stood at 4.3 percent. The remaining growth can be attributed to "immigration" from within Israel and from abroad."

Eldar further added: "According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), the construction of 2,200 apartments was completed in 2006 in the settlements, which boasted 271,000 residents at the time. This number, 2,200, is similar to the number of apartments that were built within the same time frame in the districts of Jerusalem (882,000 residents), and Haifa (869,000 residents). During the same year, the Housing Ministry offered 390 housing units to the entire Arab sector in Israel, whose rate of natural growth is only slightly lower than that of the settlers (2.6 percent to the settlers' 3.2 percent). The rate of natural growth among Israeli Jews in general stands at 1.6 percent."

As Eldar wrote re facilities granted by the only democracy in the Middle East to its "Israeli Arab" citizens they receive, if any, promises but only if any a fraction is executed of building or what is budgeted examples:

·        In August of last year, the Housing Ministry promised in a letter to Arab rights group Musawa that 1,800 housing units would be built in 15 Arab villages and towns. In 2000 the government adopted a plan to build 50,000 apartments for Arab Israelis within five years. The plan was never carried out and the housing crisis in the Arab sector is getting worse and worse.

·        Research conducted by Musawa revealed that in 80 percent of the Arab towns there were absolutely no approved housing plans. In 2007, only 21 percent of the budget allocated to housing for minorities was actually used. The result is unauthorized construction by Arab residents, which prompt the government to issue demolition orders, and contribute to crowding. (The density of the Jewish population is 0.84 people per room, while in the Arab sector it is 1.43 people per room).

·        "Israel, which takes such good care of the settlers' natural growth, is trying to fight against our natural growth because we are a 'demographic threat'," said Israeli Arab MK Ahmed Tibi (Ra'am-Ta'al)

But official figures, compiled by human rights groups, show that the housing situation of Israeli Arabs is much better than that of the Palestinians in East Jerusalem: although the number of Palestinian Arabs increased almost four times from 69,000 to 270,000, which requires the construction of a minimum 1,500 housing units, the Zionist municipality of occupied Jerusalem gave between 1992 and 2001 authorised the building of 400 hundred units per year, "The result: Illegal construction and demolition orders".

"Since 1967, less than 600 government subsidized homes were built in the Palestinian sector, the last of which was built 30 years ago." And, "Only 13% of the land Israel annexed from the West Bank into Jerusalem is available to the Palestinian population. The lands that were annexed were mainly used to house 50,000 apartments for Jews."

In what is known as zone "C" of the occupied West Bank in which 150,000 Palestinian Arabs live in on their own property "Between 2000 and 2007 only 91 construction permits were issued there, accounting for 5.6% of the requests filed by Palestinians. The result: housing crisis, illegal construction and demolition orders."

The Zionist goal is understood and very clear, the Zionist entity under all its governments and ruling parties and coalitions are trying to strangle Palestinian Arabs in their own occupied land and force them to commit self transfer til Palestine is free of its Palestinians; so as to become only a "Jewish state".

Hello,

I saw on CNN Jim Clancy was discussing with an Israeli representative about being held for war crimes-both them and Hamas.  He was really giving it to the Israeli and all the representative could do was give examples of mistreatment! agh...they have high tech weaponry and they claim to have used precision weaponry and yet civilians by the hundreds were targeted, killed, lives destroyed etc.  and all they can do is blame the other side!  man was sickening to watch!  Makes one wanna jump through the screen and slap the sucker!

EXACTLY, I wish people would wake up to this fact!  Imagine illegally occupying and then torturing, killing, murdering, destroying lives of innocents, demobilizing their homeland, and then make them wanna move away so they can steal more of their land!  And they say they are the ones that want peace!  Bullcrap!

An army of occupation

07/07/2009 01:59:00 PM GMT
http://aljazeera.com/news/articles/39/An_army_of_occupation.html

By Uri Avnery

(Reuters) Mendelblit has made a huge effort to cover up war crimes committed during the recent Gaza War.

Not every day, and not even every decade, does the Supreme Court rebuke the military advocate general. The last time this happened was 20 years ago, when the advocate general refused to issue a proper indictment against an officer who ordered his men to break the arms and legs of a bound Palestinian. The officer argued that he considered this to be his duty, after the Minister of Defense Yitzhak Rabin had called for “breaking their bones.”

Well, this week it happened again. The Supreme Court made a decision that was tantamount to a slap in the face of the army's current chief legal officer, Brig. Avichai Mendelblit.

The incident in question took place in Ni’alin, a village which has been robbed of a great part of its land by the Israeli wall. Like their neighbors in Bilin, the villagers demonstrate every week against the wall. Generally, the army's reactions in Ni'alin are even more violent than in Bilin. Four protesters have already been killed there.

In this particular incident, Lt. Col. Omri Borberg took a Palestinian demonstrator, who was sitting on the ground, handcuffed and blindfolded, and suggested to one of his soldiers “let’s go aside and give him a rubber.” He ordered the soldier to shoot a rubber bullet, point blank.

For those who do not know — “rubber bullets” are steel bullets coated with rubber. From a distance, they cause painful injuries. At short range, they can be fatal. Officially, soldiers are allowed to use them at a minimum range of 40 meters.

Without hesitating, the soldier shot the prisoner in the foot, although this was a “manifestly illegal order”, which a soldier is obliged by army law to disobey. According to the classic definition of Judge Binyamin Halevy in the 1957 Kafr Kassem massacre case, the “black flag of illegality” is waving over such orders. The prisoner, Ashraf Abu-Rakhma, was hit and fell on the ground.

Veterans of the Ni’alin and Bilin demonstrations know that such and similar incidents happen all the time. But the Abu-Rakhma case was special for one reason: It was documented by a young local woman from a balcony near the crime scene with one of the cameras provided to villagers by B’tselem, an Israeli human rights organization.

Thus Lt. Col. Borberg committed a unforgivable sin: He was photographed in the act. Generally, when peace activists disclose such misdeeds, the army spokesman reaches into his bag of lies and comes up with some mendacious statement or other (“Attacked the soldier”, “Tried to grab his weapon”, “Resisted arrest”). But even a talented spokesman has difficulties denying something that is clearly seen on film.

WHEN the military advocate general decided to prosecute the officer and the soldier for “conduct unbecoming”, Abu-Rakhma and some Israeli human rights organizations applied to the Supreme Court. The judges advised the advocate to change the indictment. He refused, and so the matter reached the court again.

This week, in a decision unusual for its severe language, the three justices (including a woman judge and a religious one) found the “conduct unbecoming” charge itself unbecoming. They ordered the indictment of both officer and soldier on a far more serious criminal charge, in order to make it clear to all military personnel that mistreating a prisoner “is contrary to the spirit of the state and the army.”

After such a slap in the face, any decent person would have resigned in shame. But not Mendelblit. The brigadier is a personal friend of Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi and is expecting promotion to the rank of major general at any moment.

Mendelblit has made a huge effort to cover up war crimes committed during the recent Gaza War, from Ashkenazi’s war plan itself to the crimes of individual soldiers. Nobody has been put on trial, nobody even seriously investigated.

ON the day the Supreme Court decision concerning Mendelblit was published, another brigadier also made the headlines. In a speech before religious women soldiers, the chief rabbi of the army, Brig. Avichai Rontzky, expressed the opinion that the army service of women is forbidden by the Jewish religion. Rontzky is a man in the spirit of the person who appointed him. It will be remembered that, when asked what he felt when dropping a one-ton bomb on a residential area, Air Force Gen. Halutz answered: “A slight bump on the wing.” In a discussion about whether to treat a wounded Palestinian on the Shabbat, Rontzky wrote that “the life of a goy is certainly valuable...but the Shabbat is more important.” Meaning: a dying goy should not be treated on Shabbat. Later he retracted. (In modern colloquial Hebrew, a goy is a non-Jew. The term has distinctly derogatory connotations.)

The Israeli army has something that is called the “Ethical Code.” True, the spiritual father of the code, professor Asa Kasher, did defend the atrocities of the “Molten Lead” operation, but Rontzky went much further: He stated unequivocally that “When there is a clash between...the Ethical Code and the Halakha (religious law), certainly the Halakha must be followed.”

The hard core of the fanatical settlers, which is almost entirely composed of religious people (many of whom are “reborn Jews”) decided long ago to gain control of the army from within. In a systematic campaign, which is in full swing, they penetrate the officers’ corps from below — from the junior ranks to the middle to the senior ones.

When the Israeli army came into being, the officers’ corps was full of kibbutz members. Not only were kibbutzniks considered the elite of the new Hebrew society, which was based on values of morality and culture, and not only were they the first to volunteer for every national task, but there were also inbuilt “technical” reasons. The nucleus of the army came from the pre-state Palmach. The Palmach companies constituted a fully mobilized regular army, part of the underground military organization, the Haganah. They could exist and operate freely only in the kibbutzim, where their identity could be camouflaged. As a result, almost all the outstanding commanders in the 1948 war were from the Palmach, kibbutz members or close to them.

These did everything to imbue the new defense forces with the spirit of a pioneering, moral and humanist citizens army, the very opposite of an occupation army. True, the reality was always different, but the ideal was important as an aim to strive for. As I showed in my 1950 book, “The Other Side of the Coin,” our “purity of arms” has always been a myth. But the aspiration to be an army with humanist values was important. Atrocities were hidden or denied, because they were considered shameful. Nothing has remained of all this, except phrases. Since the beginning of the occupation in 1967, the character of the army has changed completely. The army that was founded in order to protect the state from external dangers has become an army of occupation, whose task is to oppress another people, crush their resistance, expropriate land, protect land robbers called settlers, man roadblocks, humiliate human beings every day. Of course, it is not the army alone that has changed, but also the state that gives the army its orders as well as its ongoing brainwashing.

The state needs an army. Even after achieving peace, we shall need a strong and effective army in order to protect the state until peace strikes deep roots and we can set up a regional body along the lines of the European Union, perhaps. The army is us. Its character has an impact on all our lives, on the life of our state itself. It has already been said: “Israel is not a banana republic. It is a republic that slips on bananas.” And what bananas!

ICRC: Israel Traps Gazans in Deprivation and Despair

by Stephen Lendman
http://www.uruknet.info/?p=m56020&hd=&size=1&l=e

July 15, 2009

Founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 1863, the International Committee of the Red Cross is an "impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance." It also tries "to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles."

It's legally mandatd to do it under the 1949 Geneva Conventions and has had a permanent presence in Gaza since 1968. Currently 109 ICRC staff work there, including 19 expatriates. They remained throughout Operation Cast Lead and witnessed firsthand the carnage and destruction that took place.

Cooperatively with the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), they evacuated hundreds of people, some severely wounded in the conflict. As able, they also repaired power and water supply lines and provided hospitals with vital medicines and supplies. In addition, ICRC surgeons performed operations in Gaza's Shifa Hospital working alongside Palestinian doctors.

Post-conflict, ICRC and PRCS collected information on Israeli violations of international humanitarian laws. They also distributed vital items, including plastic sheeting, cooking sets, mattresses, blankets, hygiene kits, and more to over 72,000 Gazans whose homes were partially or totally destroyed.

ICRC is currently providing eight hospitals with medicines, other medical supplies, equipment, spare parts, and is helping with needed repairs. It's also fitting amputees with artificial limbs and offering needed physiotherapy.

It's helping to upgrade water and sanitation services to keep Gaza's water network running as best it can. It's aiding farmers and others with land rehabilitation, compost production, and "cash-for-work." It promotes international humanitarian law and calls on all sides to observe it.

In June 2009, it issued a report titled, "Gaza: 1.5 million people trapped in despair" that described the Territory as "look(ing) like the epicentre of a massive earthquake" in the wake of Operation Cast Lead and went on to detail how severely.

No Reconstruction Allowed - Public Health at Risk

Despite billions pledged for reconstruction, practically none of it has come because of Israel's tight embargo on virtually everything needed. As a result, thousands of displaced and destitute families live in cramped quarters with relatives or in tents as their only other alternative.

Some emergency repairs were carried out, but "only to the already unsatisfactory level prevailing before December 2008." Overall, the infrastructure is inadequate, overloaded, and subject to breakdown. Although chlorine is available to disinfect water, sewage and other waste matter seepage remains a major threat to public health. Each day, 69 million liters of partially or untreated effluent are pumped into the Mediterranean for lack of an ability to handle it.

Poor Access to Health Care

Gaza's health care system is in disrepair and can't adequately treat patients with serious illnesses. In addition, with the Territory under siege and a strict embargo imposed, most people can't leave to seek care elsewhere. Those allowed out endure a bureaucratic nightmare and wait months before permission is granted. For some, it's too late and for others their condition has worsened.

Twenty-six year old Do'aa is typical. She has pancreatic cancer, needs surgery, yet explains her despair. "At first, there was hope that I would be given an operation, but as time went by I stopped hoping. I am in pain and I know all too well that my disease is life threatening." She's waited six months for permission, so far not granted.

Reaching Jordan is no easy task. It requires passing through Erez crossing into Israel and doing it is arduous. ICRC describes the process:

"Patients on life-support machines have to be removed from ambulances and placed on stretchers, then carried 60 - 80 metres through the crossing to ambulances waiting on the other side. Patients who can walk unassisted may face extensive questioning before they are allowed through the crossing for medical treatment - or, as sometimes happens, before they are refused entry into Israel and turned back."

As for treatment in Gaza, everything needed falls short. What's available comes from the Palestinian Authority's (PA) Ministry of Health in the West Bank, but the supply chain is unreliable given obstacles that Israel imposes and tensions between Fatah and Hamas.

Getting imports is more complicated still because of embargo restrictions of even the most basic items like painkillers and X-ray film developers. Patients go wanting as a result, a serious problem for the most ill.

For those needing prosthetic appliances as well because getting them is a lengthy, arduous process. Fourteen-year old Gassan lost his older brother and both his legs. He loves football, but doctors told him he'd walk again. Six months later, he's still waiting for both of his limbs to be fitted.

A Strangled Economy

The combination of siege and Operation Cast Lead devastated Gaza's already fragile economy. On May 1, the Palestinian Chamber of Commerce reported that unemployment reached 65%, poverty hit 80%, and the longer isolation continues the higher these figures will go. Currently, about 96% of Gaza's industrial operations are shuttered, and over 80% of its residents depend on humanitarian aid and supplies from the World Food Program, UNRWA, and what comes in through tunnels from Egypt to survive.

A May 2008 ICRC household survey showed that over 70% of Gazans had personal incomes of $1 dollar a day excluding whatever humanitarian assistance they received. On average, Territory workers have to support six to seven other immediate family members and several others in their extended family. Cutting household expenses is essential, even at the cost of a healthy balanced diet, no longer affordable for most.

So cheap alternatives substitute for fruits, vegetables, meat and fish. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies result. Children, the elderly and sick are especially impacted. For youths it means stunted bone growth, improper teeth development, and a reduced capacity to learn. It makes everyone infection and illness-prone by lowering their resistance and destroying their overall state of well-being.

Most of the poor "have exhausted their coping mechanisms." Their savings are gone, and they've sold personal belongings, including jewelry, furniture, farm animals, land, fishing boats, cars and other possessions - anything to raise cash. They've cut back on food and other essentials as much as possible. Still their situation is grave. Israel is slowly sucking life out of 1.5 million people with no opposition stepping up to stop it.

Farming in the Danger Zone

Farm families comprise over one-fourth of Gaza's population, and they, too, been badly hit. "Exports of strawberries, cherry tomatoes and cut flowers used to be" important cash crops. No longer as they've been virtually halted. Farmers lost half their income and struggle to sell what they can internally at far lower prices than obtainable from exports to Israel or Europe.

Operation Cast Lead destroyed thousands of citrus, olive and palm groves as well as irrigation systems, wells and greenhouses. In addition, many farmers lack fertilizers and many seedling types. They also lost access to around 30% of their land, the portion inside a "no-go" buffer zone straddling Israel and Gaza. It extends up to a kilometer inside an Israeli-erected fence on which farmers risk being shot if they work there. Under these conditions, productive agriculture is severely curtailed and in some places not possible.

Fishermen has been just as hard hit by Israel's coastal restrictions extending up to six nautical miles offshore. Reduced catches have resulted as bigger fish and sardines, comprising 70% of earlier harvests, are found in deeper waters.

Trapped

ICRC states:

"People in Gaza are trapped. Because Israel has shut the crossing points, Gazans have scant opportunity for contact with relatives abroad or for further education or professional training." Palestinian staff members of international organizations, including ICRC, are also impacted.

The emotional fallout especially affects families whose relatives are imprisoned inside Israel. In June 2007, Israel stopped ICRC-supported visits of about 900 families and prevented spouses and children from staying close to their loved ones.

Students, professors, teachers, and health professionals also get no exit permission for education, training, seminars, and other skills and expertise-building methods. Ibrahim Abu Sobeih is a 24-year-old Gaza student. Pennsylvania's Clarion University awarded him a scholarship, but he can't attend. In frustration, he said:

"Being stuck here gives me a sombre view of the future. I would like to be educated and to make something of myself. I want to be able to help my family financially. But it is very difficult when I am trapped. I feel very angry and hopeless."

So do 1.5 million other Gazans - trapped in the world's largest open-air prison, under siege for over two years, getting way inadequate outside help, and none whatever from Western powers that support Israel's slow-motion genocide against a civilian population unable to stop it.

Israeli Navy in Suez Canal Prepares for Potential Attack on Iran

By Sheera Frenkel in Jerusalem

http://informationclearinghouse.info/article23076.htm

July 16, 2009 "The Times" -- Two Israeli missile class warships have sailed through the Suez Canal ten days after a submarine capable of launching a nuclear missile strike, in preparation for a possible attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The deployment into the Red Sea, confirmed by Israeli officials, was a clear signal that Israel was able to put its strike force within range of Iran at short notice. It came before long-range exercises by the Israeli air force in America later this month and the test of a missile defence shield at a US missile range in the Pacific Ocean.

Israel has strengthened ties with Arab nations who also fear a nuclear-armed Iran. In particular, relations with Egypt have grown increasingly strong this year over the “shared mutual distrust of Iran”, according to one Israeli diplomat. Israeli naval vessels would likely pass through the Suez Canal for an Iranian strike.

“This is preparation that should be taken seriously. Israel is investing time in preparing itself for the complexity of an attack on Iran. These manoeuvres are a message to Iran that Israel will follow up on its threats,” an Israeli defence official said.

It is believed that Israel’s missile-equipped submarines, and its fleet of advanced aircraft, could be used to strike at in excess of a dozen nuclear-related targets more than 800 miles from Israel.

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, said that his Government explicitly allowed passage of Israeli vessels, and an Israeli admiral said that the drills were “run regularly with the full co-operation of the Egyptians.”

Two Israeli Saar class missile boats and a Dolphin class submarine have passed through Suez. Israel has six Dolphin-class submarines, three of which are widely believed to carry nuclear missiles.

Israel will also soon test an Arrow interceptor missile on a US missile range in the Pacific Ocean. The system is designed to defend Israel from ballistic missile attacks by Iran and Syria. Lieutenant-General Patrick O’Reilly, the director of the Pentagon’s Missile Defence Agency, said that Israel would test against a target with a range of more than 630 miles (1,000km) — too long for previous Arrow test sites in the eastern Mediterranean.

The Israeli air force, meanwhile, will send F16C fighter jets to participate in exercises at Nellis Air Force base in Nevada this month. Israeli C130 Hercules transport aircraft will also compete in the Rodeo 2009 competition at McChord Air Force base in Washington.

“It is not by chance that Israel is drilling long-range manoeuvres in a public way. This is not a secret operation. This is something that has been published and which will showcase Israel’s abilities,” said an Israeli defence official.

He added that in the past, Israel had run a number of covert long-range drills. A year ago, Israeli jets flew over Greece in one such drill, while in May, reports surfaced that Israeli air force aircraft were staging exercises over Gibraltar. An Israeli attack on a weapons convoy in Sudan bound for militants in the Gaza Strip earlier this year was also seen as a rehearsal for hitting moving convoys.

The exercises come at a time when Western diplomats are offering support for an Israeli strike on Iran in return for Israeli concessions on the formation of a Palestinian state.

If agreed it would make an Israeli strike on Iran realistic “within the year” said one British official.

Diplomats said that Israel had offered concessions on settlement policy, Palestinian land claims and issues with neighboring Arab states, to facilitate a possible strike on Iran.

“Israel has chosen to place the Iranian threat over its settlements,” said a senior European diplomat.

well that is so obvious, its citizens and those that live in the settlements are just people who they have brained controlled!  After all, to get Iran away from them, to take away their threat is their main aim-the country is being built on lies and probably will end on them as well.

There is no way the Russian President/PM Medvedev/Putin and the Chinese President Hu Jin Tao will let this happen.
They warned IsraHell and the US not to attack Iran. Russia and China will oppose it and get the US and Israhell in deep trouble.
China can bring the US down financially in a matter of hours.

Iran, Syria, Hezbollah and other Muslim nations such as Indonesia and Pakistan will also join the trouble by shelling missiles on IsraHell and ignite terror acts on the US and EU soil. IsraHell would be wiped off the map with total destruction.

IsraHell and the US are fully responsible for an upcoming WWIII in case they attack Iran (IsraHell and the US are one and the same).
