Denley Resigns After DWI Arrest

Quote
Concord — February 22, 2009 — First-term State Senator Bill Denley, who represents Ossipee Lake’s towns and the surrounding area, has resigned after being arrested on drunken driving charges, according to New England Cable News Network, which cited the Associated Press as its source. The arrest was said to be Denley’s third for DWI.

NECN’s website said Senate Republican Leader Peter Bragdon praised Denley while agreeing with his decision to resign. A special election will be held to choose a replacement.

No, the bill is still valid and forced out of committee for a full House vote.

But I'm thinking Denley may have been specifically targeted here for his support of it.

Which will stampede all the rest into shutting up and not supporting the bill.

You can be a CONVICTED FELON and still be eligible for the Senate Seat ...

Quote
Article I, Section 3 of the Constitution sets three qualifications for senators:

1) each senator must be at least 30 years old,
2) must have been a citizen of the United States for at least the past nine years,
3) must be (at the time of the election) an inhabitant of the state they seek to represent.

The age and citizenship qualifications for senators are more stringent than those for representatives. In Federalist No. 62, James Madison justified this arrangement by arguing that the "senatorial trust" called for a "greater extent of information and stability of character."

He didn't have to resign at all ...even if he was convicted. Which I doubt would happen if he simply hired attorney and went to court.  I bet you he even gets off with probation after all is done.

DWI != DUI

DWI == Driving Without Insurance
DUI == Driving Under the Influence

Oops, didn't realize it was DWI.  That's almost even worse though, because you can get a DWI for driving after drinking some cough syrup.  Obvious to me that this was just an excuse for him to shamelessly pull out of supporting a controversial bill.  Stooge.

It's war against the States obviously. I'm not buying this BULL. The Fed will deter any resistence by the States. Just you watch.
