Agora (film)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agora_(film)

Agora is a 2009 Spanish historical drama film directed by Alejandro Amenábar and written by Amenábar and Mateo Gil. The biopic stars Rachel Weisz as Hypatia, a female mathematician, philosopher and astronomer in 4th century Roman Egypt who investigates the flaws of the geocentric Ptolemaic system and the heliocentric model that challenges it. Surrounded by religious turmoil and social unrest, Hypatia struggles to save the knowledge of classical antiquity from destruction. Max Minghella co-stars as Davus, Hypatia's slave, and Oscar Isaac as Hypatia's student Orestes, prefect of Alexandria.

The story uses historical fiction to highlight the relationship between religion and science amidst the decline of Greco-Roman polytheism and the Christianization of the Roman empire. The title of the film takes its name from the agora, a gathering place in ancient Greece, similar to the Roman forum. The film was produced by Fernando Bovaira and shot on the island of Malta from March to June 2008. Justin Pollard, co-author of The Rise and Fall of Alexandria (2007), was the historical advisor for the film.

Agora was screened out of competition at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival in May, and opened in Spain on October 9, 2009 becoming the highest grossing film of the year for that country. Although the film had difficulty finding distribution, it was released country by country throughout late 2009 and early 2010. The film received a 55% overall approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes. Agora received seven Goya Awards in Spain, including Best Original Screenplay, and it was awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Feature Film Prize at the Hamptons International Film Festival.

Plot

In the 4th century city of Alexandria, in the Roman Empire, Greek philosopher Hypatia (Rachel Weisz), is a female teacher at the Platonic school, where future leaders are educated. Hypatia is the daughter of Theon (Michael Lonsdale), the director of the Musaeum of Alexandria. Hypatia, her slave Davus (Max Minghella), and her pupils, Orestes (Oscar Isaac) and Synesius (Rupert Evans), are immersed in the changing political and social landscape. She rejects her student Orestes's love, because she prefers to stay an independent scientist. Davus assists Hypatia in her classes and is interested in science, and is also secretly in love with her.

Meanwhile, social unrest begins challenging the Roman rule of the city as pagans and Christians come into conflict. When the Christians start defiling the statues of the pagan's gods, the pagans, including Orestes and Hypatia's father, ambush the Christians to quash their rising influence. However, in the ensuing battle, the pagans unexpectedly find themselves outnumbered by a large Christian mob. Hypatia's father is gravely injured and Hypatia and the pagans take refuge in the Library of the Serapeum. The Christian siege of the library ends when an envoy of the Roman Emperor declares that the pagans are pardoned, however the Christians shall be allowed to enter the library. Hypatia and the pagans flee, trying to save the most important scrolls, before the Christians overtake the library and destroy its contents. Davus, torn between his love for Hypatia and the possibility of gaining his freedom by joining the rising tide of Christianity, and annoyed by Hypatia calling him an idiot for not being present when he is needed most to help saving the scrolls, chooses to join the Christian forces. He returns with a sword and starts sexually assaulting her, but quickly regrets this and offers his sword to her to kill him. However, she removes the slave collar around his neck and tells him he is free now.

Several years later, Orestes, now converted to Christianity, is prefect of Alexandria. Hypatia continues to investigate the motions of the Sun, the Moon, the five known "wanderers" (planets) and the stars. Some Christians ridicule Hypatia for thinking that the Earth is a sphere, by arguing that people far from the top would fall off the Earth. When they ask Davus his opinion he avoids conflict by saying that only God knows these things.

Hypatia also investigates the heliocentric model of the solar system proposed by Aristarchus of Samos; by having an object dropped from the mast of a moving ship she demonstrates to Orestes that a possible motion of the Earth would not affect the motion, relative to Earth, of a falling object on Earth. However, due to religious objections against heliocentrism, the Christians have now forbidden Hypatia from teaching at the school. The Christians and the Jews come into conflict, committing violent acts against each other, with the Christians ultimately wresting power from the only other religious group remaining. Davus, remembering how Hypatia forgave him, suggests that perhaps the Christians should forgive the Jews, as Jesus did, but the Christians respond by rebuking him for comparing himself with Jesus.

The leader of the Christians, Cyril (Sami Samir), views Hypatia as having too much influence over Orestes and stages a public ceremony intended to force Orestes to subjugate her. Hypatia's former pupil, Synesius, now the Bishop of Cyrene, comes to her rescue as a religious authority counterweight, but says he cannot help her unless she accepts Christianity; she refuses. Hypatia makes a great discovery, finding that the Earth orbits around the Sun in an elliptic, not circular, orbit with the Sun at one of the foci. Cyril convinces a mob of Christians that Hypatia is a witch and they vow to kill her. Davus tries to run ahead to warn Hypatia, but she is captured by the mob. Before killing her they strip Hypatia naked and beat her until Davus tells the mob to stone her. When everyone goes outside to collect stones, Davus, with Hypatia's consent, secretly suffocates her. Since she is already dead, she does not feel anything when the crowd begins to stone her.

Cast
Rachel Weisz as Hypatia of Alexandria. Weisz was already a fan of Amenábar's work when she received the script, and was very interested in the role.[2] Although she had not heard of Hypatia before, she felt that her history was still relevant to the contemporary world: "Really, nothing has changed. I mean, we have huge technological advances and medical advances, but in terms of people killing each other in the name of God, fundamentalism still abounds. And in certain cultures, women are still second-class citizens, and they’re denied education."[3] Weisz wanted to delve more into Hypatia's sexuality and her desires, but Amenábar disagreed. She also received science lessons to help inform her depiction of the character.[2] At the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, Weisz spoke about her style and approach: "There's no way we could know how people behave in the 4th century. I imagine they were still human beings with the same emotions as we have now. There are cultural customs, I guess, which were different. We approach the acting style to make the people flesh and blood and to make the acting incredibly naturalistic."[4]
Max Minghella as Davus, Hypatia's slave. Davus is in love with Hypatia, but it is an unrequited love, and Davus turns towards Christianity instead. The character of Davus was invented as "eyes for the audience" and is not based on any historical account.[5] Minghella grew up in Hampstead, the same town as Weisz, and found it very easy to work with her.[6]
Oscar Isaac as governor Orestes. Student of Hypatia, Orestes is an aristocrat, who like Davus, falls in love with his teacher, and has a strong friendship with Hypatia.[5] Isaac was familiar with the history of early Christianity during the period represented in the film, but like Weisz, he had not heard of Hypatia before joining the project.[7]
Sami Samir as Saint Cyril of Alexandria, Bishop of Alexandria
Manuel Cauchi as bishop Theophilus of Alexandria, uncle of Cyril
Ashraf Barhom as Ammonius, a parabalani monk
Michael Lonsdale as Theon of Alexandria, father of Hypatia and director of the Musaeum of Alexandria
Rupert Evans as bishop Synesius of Cyrene
Homayoun Ershadi as Aspasius the old slave. He acts as Hypatia's research assistant.

Production

Development

It's a movie that challenges the audience in terms of reasoning and trying to get into the story. I kept saying the movie is about astronomy and I wanted to express concepts that we study in school—science, mathematics—that don’t show how fascinating the topic is [the way the subjects are taught in modern education]. I wanted to translate [man’s] fascination with the pursuit of knowledge. I wanted to show astronomy and those who study it in the most appealing way. Those are the real heroes of the movie.
Alejandro Amenábar[8]

After Amenábar completed The Sea Inside (2004), he took a break and traveled to the island of Malta, where he used his free time to explore the night sky. Seeing the Milky Way galaxy, Amenábar began to discuss astronomy with his friends, speculating about extraterrestrial life on other planets. He started to research astronomy and came across Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, by American astronomer Carl Sagan.[9] Amenábar also studied historical figures such as Ptolemy, Copernicus, Johannes Kepler and Galileo,[10] but found himself most interested in the story of Hypatia, a 4th century Greek astronomer whose history, he felt, was still relevant in the 21st century: "We realized that this particular time in the world had a lot of connections with our contemporary reality. Then the project became really, really intriguing, because we realized that we could make a movie about the past while actually making a movie about the present."[11]

To prepare for the task of recreating the ancient city of Alexandria without relying on CGI, Amenábar reviewed older sword-and-sandal films such as The Ten Commandments (1956), Ben-Hur (1959), and Pharaoh (1966).[9] A year before the start of pre-production, designer Guy Hendrix Dyas spent three weeks with Amenabar in Madrid to do some preliminary work on the set designs and the recreation of the ancient city of Alexandria so that previs animations could be generated.

The film was produced by Fernando Bovaira, with Telecinco Cinema as the primary producer along with Mod Producciones, Himenoptero, and Sogecable as co-producers.[12]

Filming

Principal photography began on March 17, 2008, on the island of Malta, and was scheduled to last 15 weeks.[13] Production designer Guy Hendrix Dyas used large sets on location instead of CGI at Amenábar's direction.[14] The construction of the set employed almost 400 people, and was the largest ever designed on the island. Actor Charles Thake (Hesiquius) suffered minor facial injuries on the set when he collided with extras running during a scene.[15] Filming ended in June.[8]

Release

Agora premiered at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival,[16] but the film was initially unable to find a domestic distributor due to its large budget and length.[17] The film also had trouble finding a distributor in both the USA and Italy, although it eventually found distributors in both countries.[18][19] The North America premiere was held at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, 2009.[20] Agora opened in Spain on October 9, 2009, breaking box office records for that country.[21] A limited release in the U.S. began on May 28, 2010, opening on two screens at the Paris Theatre and the Sunshine Cinema in New York. The film opened on the West Coast of the U.S. on June 4, playing only two screens: at The Landmark theatre in Los Angeles and at Regal's Westpark 8 in Irvine.[22]

Box office

Agora was Spain's highest grossing film of 2009, earning over $10.3 million within four days of its release on October 9.[23] The film grossed over $32.3 million (€ 21.4 million) by December 1 and grossed about $35 million by February 1, 2010. Based on North American theatre tracking data from Rentrak Theatrical, indieWIRE reported that Agora "scored the highest per-theater-average of any film in the marketplace" during the Memorial Day holiday weekend from May 28 through May 31, just after its U.S. limited release.[24]

Critical reception

A visually imposing, high-minded epic that ambitiously puts one of the pivotal moments in Western history onscreen for the first time.
Todd McCarthy, Variety[25]

The film holds a 55% 'Rotten' rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 73 reviews.[23] It also scored more than 7.5 stars out of 10 on IMDb (The Internet Movie Database) within the first three months of its release, however as of November 2010 the rating lies at 7.2.[26]

British writer and film critic Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian praised Alejandro Amenábar and his film, describing Agora as "an ambitious, cerebral and complex movie...Unlike most toga movies, it doesn't rely on CGI spectacle, but real drama and ideas." Bradshaw also applauded Rachel Weisz's role as Hypatia, calling it "an outstanding performance".[27]

Accolades

Agora was nominated for 13 Goya Awards, winning 7.[14] The film won the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Feature Film Prize ($25,000.00 USD) in 2009 at the Hamptons International Film Festival.[28]

Historical accuracy

Before its release, the distribution company insisted on screening the film at the Vatican. No objections were reported and Vatican officials assisted in some of the religious depictions. According to Amenábar, "There’s one scene in which Cyril reads from St. Paul and [the Vatican] tried to look for the softest version. In the English version, it’s taken from the King James version of the Bible."[8] The line is excerpted from 1 Timothy 2:8 - 2:12.[29] This scene between Cyril and Orestes was criticized for its involvement of Hypatia as its subject. Socrates Scholasticus, a contemporary of these events, describes an encounter in his Historia Ecclesiastica between Cyril and Orestes, where Cyril tried to reconcile with Orestes. "When Orestes refused to listen to friendly advances, Cyril extended toward him the book of gospels, believing that respect for religion would induce him to lay aside his resentment."[30] As in the film, Orestes refused this religious appeal, however Socrates' record is unclear whether Hypatia was the subject of this particular incident. Socrates' record does indicate that "a rumour was calumniously spread that Orestes's unwillingness to reconcile himself with the bishop was [Hypatia's] doing."[31] This rumor directly resulted in a multitude of men killing Hypatia.[32] Damascius implicates Cyril as having a more direct involvement in Hypatia's murder,[33] however modern scholars disagree about his role in her death.[31]

The Religious Anti-Defamation Observatory (Observatorio Antidifamación Religiosa), a Spanish Catholic group, claimed that the film was responsible for "promoting hatred of Christians and reinforcing false clichés about the Catholic Church."[18] Michael Ordoña of the Los Angeles Times acknowledges that the film has been criticized for "perceived slights against Christians" but that "its lack of condemnation of specific dogma makes the film's target seem to be fundamentalism in general".[34]

I saw the "True Grit" remake over the weekend with my dad - 1st time in almost 2 years since I've been in a theater, and it seems like ALOT has changed.

Hollywood has always found very subtle ways to attack Christianity - while this movie had the outward showing that it was somewhat Christian(quoted bible verses, sang hymns, etc), they still found ways to use blasphemy, vulgar, etc, in their dialogue, and the movie itself wasn't Christian at all ultimately. This isn't the 1st time Hollywood has attacked Christianity, albeit very subliminally and subtlely.

Also, some of the previews before it looked very NWO-ish. An Anthony Hopkins one(can't remember the name) where it's about behind the scenes of Exorcism/witchcraft going on at the Vatican(apparently, it's based on true events). The next Transformers movie where supposedly they gave away the message of that moon landing being a hoax. And one where Matt Damon played someone running for Senator, meets some mysterious woman and had an affair, some some guys behind the shadows gets him and puts him on some MK Ultra.

No offence America2 , but it seems like you revel in the "victim" status of your religion.
Were you under the impression that the film was going to be a "Christian" affair?

Did you read my entire post? "True Grit" made an outward showing initially of looking "Christian" by showing bible verses, singing hymns, but as the movie went along, it was very subtle on attacking Christianity. It's not just this movie, but many other Hollywood movies like those "Narnia" movies(and yes, even Gibson's "Passion of Christ") are like this as well.

BTW - you DO know the Illuminati/NWO/Rockefellers, etc are waging war against Christianity, right?

As for being the "victim"? Did I say that? If anything, what Hollywood is very, very good at doing is DECEIVING the Christian base(alot like this "True Grit" movie), and trying to make them believe damnable heresies subtlely alot like these "Narnia" movies.

People who are very religious should expect "attacks" or rather mockery because to the secular world fundamentalism is laughable. Most people are flexible , while religious people are rigid and this rigidity is cannon fodder for the people who consider themselves forward thinking without the dogmas of an antiquated hierarchical religious system.

Wasn't it a Jewish fellow who made that film?

And please say how this film attacked any religion....

I didn't try to single this film out itself - as a WHOLE from Hollywood movies they are very subtle in their attacks on Christiniaty, and even worse, they know how to deceive the Christian audience. "True Grit" is just one example.

And no, it doesn't matter who the director is - pretty much all of the directors there, regardless of race or whatever other religion they're part of, are one and the same. Steven Speilberg has done one heck of a job with all of his films, in particular his "ET" film where he portrayed a fallen angelic demon in a very sympathetic and manipulative portrayal.

This movie has some sort of occultic significance it pops up all over in popular culture, particular in conjunction with the music industry; lady gaga, queen, beyonce, and so forth use imagery from this movie in their performances.

Uh, I believe this thread is supposed to discuss "Movies that TELL or TEACH you something?" - I was merely discussing what they have TOUGHT me.

And yes, those CS Lewis "Narnia" movies along with others that "appear Christian"...their intents is to deceive and try to astray Christians down the wrong path, which is why I try to avoid the movie plexes nowdays.

Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines (2003) - Skynet is patiently assuming control of civilian computer systems, under the guise of a computer virus. John has also met his future wife, Kate Brewster, whose father - a U.S. Air Force General - is in charge of the military computer systems & is leery of up linking SkyNet. However, when the SkyNet virus infects the U.S military computers & leaves the country open to attack, the machines begin their horrific takeover. Soon a nuclear war will result - and the war against the machines will begin.

Antitrust (2001) - In a world where unseen enemies can watch your every move, who can you trust? Ryan Phillippe (Cruel Intentions), Rachael Leigh Cook (She's All That), Claire Forlani (Meet Joe Black) and OscarÂ(r) winner* Tim Robbins star in this fast-paced, sizzling thriller that crackles with "genuine intrigue (Entertainment Today), "considerable suspense" and an "ingenious, stunningly cinematic payoff" (Los Angeles Times) you have to see to believe! Young, brilliant computer whiz Milo Hoffman (Phillippe) lands an exciting and lucrative job at the world's largest computer company, NURV. Handpicked by powerful C.E.O. Gary Winston (who to me looks a lot like the guy Gates) to work on a project that will change the way the world communicates, Milo thinks he's found his dream job. But whenhis best friend, Teddy, is brutally murdered and clues lead to NURV's involvement, Milo becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth. With his cunning and beautiful girlfriend (Forlani) and a sexy programmer (Cook) to help him, Milo races to beat Teddy's murderers at their own cyber game. But as theyclose in on him, he realizes he may be too late to learn the most important code of all: Keep your friends close. Keep your enemies closer. And know which are which before you're killed. *2003: Supporting Actor, Mystic River

Green Zone (2010) - Matt Damon reteams with his Bourne Supremacy director to create a thriller grounded in contemporary politics: the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Damon) travels across war-torn Iraq, pursuing the intelligence he's been given, but every site indicated comes up empty of WMDs. Investigating the source of the intelligence, he finds himself caught between CIA agent Martin Brown (Brendan Gleeson, 28 Days Later) and politician Clark Poundstone (Greg Kinnear, Little Miss Sunshine) over the identity of "Magellan," the supposed source. As Miller tracks down an Iraqi general, he ends up further and further afield, facing danger from all sides. It's hard to say which is the greater accomplishment--that Green Zone manages to turn a still-volatile political issue into a propulsive action movie, or that it manages to depict Iraqi people as individuals with a wide range of responses to what's happened to their country. Damon's performance is low-key but effective as Miller tries to maintain some semblance of moral clarity in a circumstance that muddies everything.

Josie and the Pussycats (2001) is about a music company that creates pop-stars out of thin air, and keeps a 'handler' nearby at all times to have them murdered if they wake up.  The three stars of the movie wear leopard-skin cat ears as they prance about on the stage demonstrating their kitten programming and crooning, "I'll do anything for you... why can't you just pretend to be nice..."  The girls are assigned living quarters decorated with TARGET logos.  They even have subliminal mind control.

Rewatch this harmless comedy and view the agenda on display.

I just downloaded and watched that movie after reading your post. I was expecting it to be really girly movie, but it was actually one of the funniest and most truthful movies I've seen in a while. I love how they put really silly product placements, like a mcdonalds shower and a giant evian in an aquarium.

Wakey, wakey. The Avengers observe a demonstration of a new sleeping gas, which is subsequently stolen—along with its antidote. And whilst the whole of London is forced to sleep in the following Sunday morning, the city is being looted. But the looters aren't the only ones left awake...

While our trio is being inoculated against the sleeping gas, the scientist makes a reference to tests done on rabbits. Purdey quips, "People aren't like rabbits." And Steed chimes in, "Oh, I don't know, an uncle of mine sired nineteen children. He was a keen bicyclist... Of course, he got about a bit."

Josie and the Pussycats: Blueprint of the Mind Control Music Industry

“Josie and the Pussycats” is a “girl-band” flick aimed at children and young adolescents. At first glance, the movie seems to be one of those generic and God-awful teen movies, but on closer look, its overall tone and message is in sharp contrast to its peers. “Josie and the Pussycats” is indeed an acerbic criticism of a morally bankrupt music business. The most surprising fact about this 2001 movie is its frighteningly accurate predictions regarding today’s pop music and its Illuminati agenda: mind controlled artists, hypnotized masses, subliminal messages, its all there. We will look at the movie’s themes and see how they relate to today’s context.

Yes, quite a few movies both the mainsteam movie critics, as well as the mainstream media itself, WILL advertise these films as nothing more than "generic", why? Obviously, because while the Illuminati loves to telegraph their punches, it's not like they'll scream it in your ear in words...they'll do it subtlely like this one. And no matter how "generic" or "awful" these movies are, audiences will eventually flock to see them(whether in the plexes, on DVD, cable, etc).

Also, as for these so-called "film critics", from what I understand, for every random movie critic screening, not even 1/2 of them show up. So ultimately, whether whatever news publication writes the review, good or bad, they write the way they are because they are TOLD to do so.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immortal_%282004_film%29
Quote

The film takes place in New York City in the year 2095 where genetically altered humans live side by side with unaltered men and women, and where Central Park has been mysteriously encased in an "intrusion zone" where people who attempt to enter are instantly killed. A strange pyramid has appeared over the city; inside, the gods of ancient Egypt are judging Horus, one of their fellow gods, who has a man's body but the head of a falcon. In the city below, Jill, a young woman with blue hair is arrested. Not completely human, her tissues appear to be no more than a few months old according to an examining physician, although her physical form is already that of an adult. She also possesses a number of secret powers, including one that enables her to procreate with gods, though she knows nothing of this. Horus is given a limited time to interact with the humans of New York and procreate. During his search for a host body, Horus encounters Nikopol, a rebel condemned to 30 years of hibernation who escapes his prison, due to a mechanical accident, one year early. Horus has been unsuccessful in attempting to take over the bodies of other humans; due to an incompatibility with the genetic alterations humans have undergone, the host bodies self-destruct while attempting to accommodate a god. Nikopol's body is acceptable as it has been frozen in prison/storage and not undergone the genetic changes causing the rejections. Horus takes partial control of Nikopol's body and starts looking for a woman he can mate with to provide him a son before his death sentence is carried out. When Horus/Nikopol discovers Jill, they become entangled in a web of murder and intrigue.

Not mentioned in the wikipedia article is the fact that the genetics corporation is almost as powerful as government and is called Eugenics.  Also, that Horus created man...and he is actually a God-like extra terrestrial.  The intrusion zone is something like a stargate, a place where humans can't go...unless they have been changed by gods.  Also, the director/writer is a graphic novelist named Enki Bilal...I believe Enki is the name of one of the Annunaki Gods in Sumeria.

The Adjustment Bureau

The story is loosely based on the Philip K. Dick short story "Adjustment Team", and features a smooth-talking congressman whose political future is thrown in doubt by uncontrollable events and the arrival of a mysterious ballerina in his life.[3]

Matt Damon plays David Norris, a former Fordham University basketball player and charismatic United States Congressman who seems destined for national political stardom. He meets a beautiful ballet dancer named Elise Sellas, played by Blunt, only to find that strange circumstances keep them from becoming romantically involved. Norris discovers forces are at work to keep them apart, and he peels the layers to find out why. The action takes place in various places in Manhattan.

I'll have to check those vids

Brazil is an essential movie to watch...possibly too weird/bizarre for some people

Gilliams real life story about battling to keep the 'escape into insanity' happy(?) ending is worthwhile reading and digesting

prophetic too...a country being ground down economically with its war on terror and security...I like the way 'terrorists' have to pay for their own torture...an over-reliance on non personal rules...

(A very timely film, considering all the CIA coups going on in the Middle East.)

Burn!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burn!

Burn! (Italian title: Queimada) is a 1969 film directed by Gillo Pontecorvo; starring Marlon Brando. The plot is loosely based on events in the history of Guadeloupe. The main character is named after William Walker, the famous American filibuster. While based on issues that Walker symbolically represented, the film is not based on the life of Walker.

A British agent, Sir William Walker (Marlon Brando), is an agent provocateur sent to the island of Queimada, a fictional Portuguese colony in the Lesser Antilles island group in the Caribbean. (The film was originally set on a Spanish island called Quemada, meaning "burnt", but it was changed to Portuguese after the Spanish government found it insulting; however the language spoken in the film remained Spanish.[1]) Walker is sent to organize an uprising of black slaves to overthrow the Portuguese regime because Great Britain wants to get economic control of the island, because it is an important sugar cane producer.

Just watched Polanski's The Ghost Writer” (2010) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139328/

Very nice psychological suspension thriller and very actual I may add cause in the movie the British Prime Minister can’t go outside his country cause he”s been accused of committing International War Crimes.

Leaked information tells people the truth about the British Prime Minister ordered the Illegal handover of terrorist suspects for torture by the CIA.

“Former British Foreign Secretary has asked the International Criminal Court in the Hague to investigate allegations that the former British Prime Minister ordered the Illegal handover of terrorist suspects for torture by the CIA”

Must See, Very Good!

I am quite surprised after A Scanner Darkly that this Hollywood-ised version of a short Dick story got approved by Dick's estate. OK film - I saw it more as a religious metaphor though with the adjusters being angels and the chairman being God

Yeah, I didnt know before I saw it that the adjusters were angels - however, guardian angels / guardians / tptb . . . wonder if they have little maps for us all? I know they have maps of where we have been - atleast here in the UK - but, where we are going? (or where they think we are goin). Who knows?

I`m going to see "source code" next. That looks interesting.

Yes, it is an erie series. I just finished watching the first 2 parts of the story.
Diana's conversion chamber, I have just seem a glimpse of that so far, but yes it looks like hi-tech torture chamber--creepy.

I don't think they would make this type of movie today with all its references to a sneaky fascist take-over, would be too close to the Obama administration's m.o.

Takes you to that heady time, March 31, 2008
By Suyong Min (Arlington, VA USA)

This review is from: John Adams (HBO Miniseries) (DVD)

Like many others, I am seeing the series as they come out on HBO, and have yet to read the book (which I intend to at some point). The series features great acting, poignant scenes, and memorable oratory. But what really got me was how it transported you to that time, when life was a series of great heroics, but was also harsh, gritty, and so unforgiving. The series kept sending me to try and research different historial events that I remembered fleetingly reading about, in one line or a few paragraphs during unfortunately uninspiring history classes of many years ago. The concept of being "tarred and feathered" took a whole new dimension for me, as the brutality of that era touched everyone, rightly or wrongly. I am sure I would have more to say once I have finished seeing the series, but I cannot stop thinking about the different scenes. I recommend it to everyone very highly, and can't wait for the DVD to come out.

Remember the 1998 Bruce Willis/Alec Baldwin movie "Mercury Rising", which was about an autistic boy who witnessed a murder and put under protective custody.

You get it...boy with autism...mercury...you know all the mercury poisoning they've put in the vaccine shots that's made children autistic?

Seriously, when this movie came out, my reactions were that this title absolutely made no sense...now fast-forward 13 years later... Shocked

How about the 1996 Jim Carrey movie "The Cable Guy" directed by Ben Stiller - this movie centered around an average joe who got a great deal on a cable tv package, which ended up turning his world upside down for seemingly into a dream world in the short run, and in the long run for the worse, as his cable installer guy(Jim Carrey) turned out to be a psychopath.

It was a dark comedy, however, this was yet another Illuminati-warning-we-will-tell-you-so film...fast forward years later after the movie was released...now ALMOST EVERYONE has multi-media cable tv with who-knows-how-many-channels that's all but put their lives in a fantasy land. If memory serves, all the buzz surrounding this movie was Carrey being the first $20m actor(which ended up spawning other A-list actors to demand the same). Pt being that this buzz ended up being the distraction and the talk among moviegoers et al, and it ended up distracting away the REAL intent of the plot of this movie. If memory serves too, the NWO-runned Hollywood media ala Entertainment Weekly, E!, et al would start debates over how A-list movie stars are (supposedly)eating up movie budgets and their profits. However, as we ALL KNOW, the CFR has funded some of these movies, and the NWO minions have final say over these products. So ultimately the profits itself mean VERY little to them compared to the conditioning and brainwashing they want to do to the masses.

Also, "Stay Tuned" in 1992 with John Ritter is a similar plotted movie - it was little seen. Anyhow, Ritter played a lazy husband father/couch potato who got a deal of a lifetime when he was offered a monster cable tv package out of nowhere. But next thing he knew was that the cable tv box sucked in him and his children, only to find out that demons in the underworld were behind this draconian agenda. Funny how fast-forward years later, we're finding out the same things how the underworld demons pretty much have advanced tv technology for the worst.

FYI, here's "Stay Tuned"(1992) in its entirety
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6eTAYOlDJU

Interesting that Peter Hyams is the Cinemetographer - he directed "2010"(the "2001" sequel that centered around alien contact). He also directed "Sudden Death" with Jean-Claude Van Damme(which centered around a terrorist heist at the Stanley Cup finals - in recent years, we've been hearing alot of rumors how the NWO wants to nuke a sporting event).
