Ruin Your Health With the Obama Stimulus Plan: Betsy McCaughey

Feb. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Republican Senators are questioning whether President Barack Obama’s stimulus bill contains the right mix of tax breaks and cash infusions to jump-start the economy.

Tragically, no one from either party is objecting to the health provisions slipped in without discussion. These provisions reflect the handiwork of Tom Daschle, until recently the nominee to head the Health and Human Services Department.

Senators should read these provisions and vote against them because they are dangerous to your health. (Page numbers refer to H.R. 1 EH, pdf version).

The bill’s health rules will affect “every individual in the United States” (445, 454, 479). Your medical treatments will be tracked electronically by a federal system. Having electronic medical records at your fingertips, easily transferred to a hospital, is beneficial. It will help avoid duplicate tests and errors.

But the bill goes further. One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and “guide” your doctor’s decisions (442, 446). These provisions in the stimulus bill are virtually identical to what Daschle prescribed in his 2008 book, “Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis.” According to Daschle, doctors have to give up autonomy and “learn to operate less like solo practitioners.”

Keeping doctors informed of the newest medical findings is important, but enforcing uniformity goes too far.

New Penalties

Hospitals and doctors that are not “meaningful users” of the new system will face penalties.  “Meaningful user” isn’t defined in the bill. That will be left to the HHS secretary, who will be empowered to impose “more stringent measures of meaningful use over time” (511, 518, 540-541)

What penalties will deter your doctor from going beyond the electronically delivered protocols when your condition is atypical or you need an experimental treatment? The vagueness is intentional. In his book, Daschle proposed an appointed body with vast powers to make the “tough” decisions elected politicians won’t make.

The stimulus bill does that, and calls it the Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research (190-192). The goal, Daschle’s book explained, is to slow the development and use of new medications and technologies because they are driving up costs. He praises Europeans for being more willing to accept “hopeless diagnoses” and “forgo experimental treatments,” and he chastises Americans for expecting too much from the health-care system.

Elderly Hardest Hit

Daschle says health-care reform “will not be pain free.” Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them. That means the elderly will bear the brunt.

Medicare now pays for treatments deemed safe and effective. The stimulus bill would change that and apply a cost- effectiveness standard set by the Federal Council (464).

The Federal Council is modeled after a U.K. board discussed in Daschle’s book. This board approves or rejects treatments using a formula that divides the cost of the treatment by the number of years the patient is likely to benefit. Treatments for younger patients are more often approved than treatments for diseases that affect the elderly, such as osteoporosis.

In 2006, a U.K. health board decreed that elderly patients with macular degeneration had to wait until they went blind in one eye before they could get a costly new drug to save the other eye. It took almost three years of public protests before the board reversed its decision.

Hidden Provisions

If the Obama administration’s economic stimulus bill passes the Senate in its current form, seniors in the U.S. will face similar rationing. Defenders of the system say that individuals benefit in younger years and sacrifice later.

The stimulus bill will affect every part of health care, from medical and nursing education, to how patients are treated and how much hospitals get paid. The bill allocates more funding for this bureaucracy than for the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force combined (90-92, 174-177, 181).

Hiding health legislation in a stimulus bill is intentional. Daschle supported the Clinton administration’s health-care overhaul in 1994, and attributed its failure to debate and delay. A year ago, Daschle wrote that the next president should act quickly before critics mount an opposition. “If that means attaching a health-care plan to the federal budget, so be it,” he said. “The issue is too important to be stalled by Senate protocol.”

More Scrutiny Needed

On Friday, President Obama called it “inexcusable and irresponsible” for senators to delay passing the stimulus bill. In truth, this bill needs more scrutiny.

The health-care industry is the largest employer in the U.S. It produces almost 17 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product. Yet the bill treats health care the way European governments do: as a cost problem instead of a growth industry. Imagine limiting growth and innovation in the electronics or auto industry during this downturn. This stimulus is dangerous to your health and the economy.

While Republicans and Democrats dance around and debate whether or not the "economic stimulus" bill will actually stimulate the economy, the most important things that have been slipped into the bill are not even being discussed. The reality is that Democrats have inserted provisions into the bill that will give the federal government COMPLETE control over your health care under a nationalized health care plan.

H.R. 1, otherwise known as "the economic stimulus bill" contains almost all of the key elements of Tom Daschle's nationalized health care system that he outlined in his 2008 book, Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis.

In his book, Daschle proclaims that doctors will have to “learn to operate less like solo practitioners” and be willing to accept mandatory government controls and guidelines.

And that is EXACTLY what this new bill forces doctors to do.

H.R. 1 creates a brand new bureaucracy called the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology. This new government organization will monitor all medical treatments to make sure that your doctor is prescribing the exact drugs and medical treatments that the federal government believes are "appropriate" and "cost effective".....

I've been telling everybody I know about this but few seem to care or understand what it all really means.  The entire Health Information Technology portion of the bill (the MAJORITY of the bill) is absolutely set up for abuse.  Why do few people outside of this forum not get this?HuhHuhHuh?   Even when you explain that its a massive invasion of privacy and has infinite potential for abuse, people just shrug it off.   I can't help but feel certain that this is a crucial step for the NWO's plans.  They can track who's had which vaccinations.. they can MANDATE that every person be prescribed certain medication.. on and on..

WTF is wrong with people that they DO NOT see the implications here?

Daschle in reality is just another Soros/Rockefeller puppet.

Again, Tarpley was right - he said Obama and the Congress were going to take away social service programs, which during a Depression is essentially targetting elderly people and greatly increases the risk of a plaque.

The Collapse of the Lombard Banking System in 1342 is very similar to what is happening right now, which lead to a dark age and the black plaque, which killed 1/3rd of the European Population.

This time it's a World Wide system , so world wide dark age.

The idiots are discussing wheather there are enough tax cuts and cash infusions? Cash Infusions have been proven to do nothing. A Cash Infusion , or recapitalizating banks is like throwing money into a bottomless pit (a Derivative Blackhole).

Tarpley Correct again, Obama = Hoover, not FDR.

FDR's policy would be to put the FED into bankruptcy reorganization and use the FED to monetize CREDIT (A Federal Investment) and spend that directly into high tech infrastructure and scienctific research via public works projects.

Obama is doing no such thing whatsoever, he is infact doing the opposite. He is closer to the Austrian School / Hoover then FDR in reality, let the Private Sector fix itself by infusing cash and sucker the New Dealers in with 5% Spending on Infrastructure. This whole thing is a sick joke...... wake me up from this nightmare.

If Alex thought standing up against the thumbprint was important then this should be the top story for at least a day or two.  Imagine them deciding that medical records includes a picture, your genome, your MRI, your X-rays (dental and otherwise).  Imagine the eugenicists deciding what kind of treatments you deserve for your ailment.  Forget about whatever free market and innovation is left in health care.  This bill guts it.

As if the current health care system isn't corrupt enough we now get something that too many appears as the end all fix all.  Letting the Insurer's make massive profit off the healthy while thoroughly screwing those in need has been the perfect set-up for what is to come.  The first to make their way into the Doctor's offices will be those that were never able to afford it in the past.  They'll be about as well off as a lab rat.  Just another example of the Saviour type system we are now being subjected to.  If you've been putting off any physical ailments, now would be the time to have them checked out.

I can see one good result of this health care debacle:
It will wake people up to the damaging matrix of American medicine.
Chemotherapy, mammograms, anti-depressants given out like candy; etc etc etc.   Hospitals have been shams moving into secret death houses for quite a while now hand in hand with big pharma's calling the shots and killing us softly.

So...when people know the doctor is just a computer run by the govt, maybe they will stop going.

Maybe they will
self-diagnose:  Learn to listen to their own body, empowered
eat healthy vegetables from their own garden
get plenty of sunlight
get plenty of exercise

if you do all these things and still get sick, you will be spiritually able to handle it.

AND we will have to be clever.
If you are a roofer, or an auto mechanic, trade a roof job or an engine rebuild with a doctor in exchange for setting a broken leg.
all under the table.

What we are witnessing is the final collapse of a rotten system.
hooray
but the transition to common sense will be rocky, much pain, many fatalities.
Be strong, help others.

The Obama administration is putting a lot of pressure on Congress to slam through the most recent $800+ billion bailout package before anyone has an opportunity to read it.

The Obama administration intones that the details are unimportant. The only thing that matters is the "bigness." And, by shipping a bill of nearly $900 billion (plus interest) to our children and grandchildren, the package is really, really big -- bigger, in fact, than the budget of our entire government for the first 170 years of our country's existence.

But now that some of the details are finally starting to leak out of Washington, Gun Owners -- and a lot of other analysts -- are beginning to look at the fine print. And some of it is particularly scary.

Of particular concern to gun owners are sections 13101 through 13434 of HR 1, which would set up the infrastructure to computerize the medical records of ALL AMERICANS in a government-coordinated database.

True, the bill doesn't mandate that the data will be in a giant computer under the Oval Office. But it does mandate that your medical records be reduced to a computerized form which is available to it in a second.

This it would do by establishing a National Coordinator for Health Information Technology -- tasked with, among other things, "providing information to help guide medical decisions at the time and place of care."

It should be scary enough that a government bureaucrat is directed by statute to try to influence your doctor's decisions with respect to your medical care.

But of even greater concern to gun owners is the fact that a government-coordinated database (which government can freely access) will now contain all records of government-provided and private psychiatric treatment -- including, in particular, the drugs which were prescribed.

Remember last year's "NICS Improvement Act" -- otherwise known as the Veterans Disarmament Act? This law codified ATF's attempts to make you a prohibited person on the basis of a government psychiatrist's finding that you are a "danger" -- without a finding by any court. Well, roughly 150,000 battle-scarred veterans have already been unfairly stripped of their gun rights by the government.

But people who, as kids, were diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder... or seniors with Alzheimer's... or police with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder... or people who are now theoretically covered by the new law... these people have, generally, not suffered the consequences of its sanctions -- YET. And the chief reason is that their records are not easily available to the government in a central, easily retrievable, computerized form.

The bailout bill would change all of that. It would push increasingly hard to force your private psychiatrist or government-sanctioned psychiatrist to turn over your psychiatric records to a massive database. This would be mandated immediately if your doctor does business with the government.

This would supposedly save Medicare money in connection with medical treatment. And, the sponsors insist, they would work very hard to protect your privacy.

But this turns the concept of "privacy" on its head. The privacy which is MOST important is privacy from the prying eyes of government -- not privacy of government data against the prying eyes of others. After all, many government data bases have been hacked in recent years, with mountains of information stolen.

So, once the government has access to these computerized psychiatric records, the stage will be set for using that database to take away the gun rights of those with Alzheimer's, those with ADD, and those with PTSD.

ACTION: Write your two senators. Urge them to vote against the bailout bill (HR 1) until it is stripped of provisions which would turn your psychiatric records over to a central government-coordinated database against your will without you getting your day in court.

You can use the Take Action feature below to send your Senators a pre-written e-mail message.

Yeah, but it doesn't work that way for the lords and masters it's only enforced for the proles. We should all be grateful that we can still get our prescriptions for our happy pills to make us forget about it all.

Yes.  We do know they have to eliminate many--this seems to be one of the ways.  Wars are another and terrorism (black-ops) is another.

No, see in reality - it's the other way around. Those who think the Government is great and will fix everything seem to fit this keen observation to a tee.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

So the government's good and fixing things? Like they have so many times in the past? If so; why are the same problems still yet unsolved? Why do wars persist if Government will fix everything - keep in mind, WE don't start wars - GOVERNMENT starts wars.
