At the higher levels it is understood that the "G" stands for "the Generative principle" - or the sex act.
The overall symbol is the compass (male) over the square (female) with the "G" (Generative principle, sex act) in the center.

As always any occult symbol has a multitude of meanings depending on your level of initiation. One particular interpretation of the G symbol that I don't hear mentioned often is it's relation to musical theory. In the occult sound and vibration is important. For anyone familiar with music theory the G could represent the note G. The Bible mentions sound/vibration: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." -John 1:1 Every ancient indigenous culture also has myths and legends about how they built their stone monuments. Supposedly Merlin sang the stones into position for Stonehenge, in the Bible in Josuah a whole city wall is destroyed with the use of sound from trumpets, and the guy who built Coral Castle supposedly whistled the stones into place according to eye witnesses, and eye witnesses have reported seeing Buddhist monks move huge boulders with chanting. Interesting point about the music. Masons also have the key with the G on it. Maybe there's something about the key of G, which is the same as the pentatonic scale. My early childhood ed studies say to use the pentatonic scale with kids because any note in it sounds compatible.
