Israeli missiles target Gaza

Israel has launched air strikes on Hamas installations in Gaza Strip, killing at least 120 people and causing heavy damage, according to officials and witnesses.

At least 30 missiles were fired at targets on Saturday, with the head of emergency services in Gaza saying that at least 200 people were also wounded.

Hamas and other Palestinian groups said that they have ordered their fighters to avenge the Israeli attack.

Among those killed in Israel's latest offensive was Tawfiq Jabber, the Gaza police chief.

Islam Shahwan, a Hamas police spokesman, said that the attacks destroyed most of the police headquarters in the Gaza Strip and that a police graduation ceremony was hit as it was being held in Gaza City.

The unprecedented number of simultaneous strikes were described as "massive" by the AFP news agency.

Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president and leader of Fatah, condemned the "aggression" in Gaza.

Israeli action

The Israel army released a statement saying "terrorist installations" were hit and that all Israeli pilots returned unharmed.

It added that if necessary the operation would continue.

"The operation will be pursued and widened as required and subject to (commanders') assessments," and aide to Ehut Barak, the Israeli defence minister, said. "We are facing a period that will not be simple or easy."

The air raids follow the decision by the Israeli security cabinet to increase reprisals for cross-border rocket attacks against Israel, and the breakdown of a six-month-old Israel-Hamas truce earlier this month.

Hamas ended the ceasefire saying that Israel had violated the truce the truce by preventing vital food and medical supplies into the Gaza Strip.

Ayman Mohyeldin, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Gaza, said: "A series of explosions were heard over Gaza City.

"From where we are there are at least seven different clouds of smoke from the strikes.

"We are seeing some casualties being evacuated in cars."

Mohyeldin said that Hamas, who rule the Gaza Strip, was being held responsible by Israel for any attacks from the territory into Israel, even if they are undertaken by other Palestinian factions.

Jacky Rowland, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Jerusalem, said that Israel's decision to strike at this moment was down to Hamas withdrawing from the ceasefire and the intensified rocket fire coming from the Gaza Strip in recent days.

"In one day [in the past week] we saw 80 rockets ... which is a huge upsurge," she said.

At least 140 people are believed to have been killed after Israel launched a series of air strikes on Hamas security compounds in Gaza City.

Black smoke rises over Gaza

The head of Gaza's ambulance service added that 200 people had been wounded after Israel fired around 30 missiles.

Thick black smoke billowed over the city following the attacks, which are thought to have destroyed most of the police headquarters in the city.

Many Hamas security compounds are in residential areas, and the airstrikes took place as children were leaving school.

One police compound was hosting a graduation ceremony for new personnel when it was attacked.

The dead include police chief Tawfiq Jabber, Hamas radio reported.

The attacks followed a decision by Israel's security cabinet to strike back after renewed rocket attacks from Gaza on Israeli border towns.

The Israeli military confirmed they had conducted strikes, saying they targeted "terrorist infrastructure".

A spokesman said: "Our aviation intervened massively against Hamas infrastructure in the Gaza Strip to stop the terrorist attacks of the past several weeks against Israeli civilian installations.

"We had warned the civilian population in the Gaza Strip of our attacks and Hamas, which hides within this population, is solely responsible for this situation.

"Our operations will continue and will be expanded if necessary."

Hamas and other Palestinian factions have ordered their troops to avenge the attack.

A statement from Islamic Jihad said: "All fighters are ordered to respond to the Israeli slaughter."

The attacks follow the end of a six-month truce between the two sides.

Sky correspondent Rachel Younger said: "Hamas blamed Israel for that collapse.

"They said Israel was not letting enough food and medical suppliers through into Gaza."

She added that the role of Egypt would now be vital, as the Egyptians "feel Hamas has been ignoring their efforts to broker a peace deal."

I cannot verify these casualty figures they coudl well be too high

Israeli warplanes have carried out a massive airstrike on Hamas security compounds inside the Gaza Strip, killing at least 180 and wounding 800 others.

http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id=79641&sectionid=351020202

At least 180 people have been killed and 800 other Palestinians have been wounded in the Israeli blitz, a Press TV correspondent reported from the Gaza Strip.

Video footages showed the bodies of dead people including men, women and children on Gaza streets.

Hamas radio reported that police chief of the police headquarter, Tawfiq Jabber, was among the dead.

Israel F16 bombers and apache helicopters carried out at least 30 simultaneous raids on at least 30 separate targets in Gaza City.

Israeli tanks are said to be moving closer to the impoverished region which has been under a strict Israeli-imposed blockade.

Israeli authorities have announced that they would continue the attacks.

"This is only just the beginning of an operation launched after a security cabinet decision. It could take time. We have not fixed a timeline and we will act according to the situation on the ground," Israeli Military spokesman Avi Benayahu told army radio on Saturday.

The strikes have caused widespread panic and confusion among the Gaza residents who have refused to withdraw their support form the Hamas resistance movement.

Hamas does not recognize Israel as a legitimate state.

A Hamas spokesman said Israel will pay a heavy price for the attacks.

Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum told our correspondent that Tel Aviv carried out the strikes after receiving green light from its allies and certain regional countries.

Barhoum described the raids as 'collective punishment' of Palestinians.

Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas in West Bank said in a statement that he "condemns this aggression" , according to an aide, Nabil Abu Rdeneh.

I highly doubt an Israeli airstrike has anything to do with hawaii. Power outages do occur from time to time, and are legitamate usually. A few years ago in NY the whole state was out for 24 hours when a transformer blew out.

Egypt condemns Israeli raids on Gaza
Sat Dec 27, 2008 7:23am EST

http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSTRE4BQ0XR20081227

CAIRO (Reuters)
- Egypt condemned Israeli raids which killed more than 140 people in Gaza on Saturday and said it would keep trying to restore a truce between Israel and Gaza.

A presidential statement quoted by the state news agency MENA said Egypt held Israel responsible for the deaths and injuries that result from the raids. "Egypt condemns the Israeli military attacks," the agency added.

"Egypt will continue its contacts to prepare an atmosphere conducive to restoring the period of calm and achieving reconciliation between the Palestinian groups," it said.

It said Egypt had tried to warn Israel of the grave consequence of attacking Gaza and had called on Palestinian groups to extend a truce which expired just over a week ago.

Egypt called publicly for restraint by both sides on Thursday when Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni came to Cairo for talks with President Hosni Mubarak.

The presidential statement said Mubarak had given orders that the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt open for Palestinian casualties and that Egyptian medical facilities be available to all victims of the Israeli raids.

I'm not surprised, Isreal probably gave Hamas some radically impossible requirements, and Hamas said no... and now Isreal is punishing them for not doing the (deliberately) impossible things they demanded of them.

Isreal is nothing but a petty tyrannical hegemony. I hope Hamas bombs the living you-know-what out of Isreal. Time to start aiming for some government headquarters, bubs.

The Nobamas and their gnomes are going to cost the U.S. taxpayers a lot more money than W. and his gnomes.
With Hillary as Secretary of State and Rahm-bo as Chief of staff you can be sure all of them will treat themselves and their buddies to everything at the highest level, including these luxurious trips, not only to Hawaii. The 5-7 star hotels and other luxurious properties around the world are already preparing to receive them.

Meanwhile the Nobamas are playing on Lanikai beach Israel is conducting another massacre in Gaza.

Arab world condemns Israeli attack on Gaza

The Associated Press
Published: December 27, 2008

http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/12/27/news/ML-Mideast-Israel-Palestinians.php

CAIRO, Egypt:
The Arab world reacted in shock to the attacks on the Gaza Strip on Saturday with scattered protests around the region and Egypt summoning the Israeli ambassador to express its condemnation of the strikes.

In a statement from the president's office, Egypt held Israel responsible for those killed and wounded and called for renewed efforts to restore the truce with Hamas.

"Egypt will forge ahead with its contacts to create a favorable atmosphere for renewing the truce and attaining inter-Palestinian reconciliation in a bid to end the suffering of the Palestinian people," the statement said.

Egypt also opened its border with the Gaza Strip to receive Palestinian wounded.

Egypt's closure of that border has been condemned by many in the Arab world for abetting Israel's siege of the Hamas-dominated Gaza Strip.

The visit of Israel's Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni to Cairo on Thursday, just two days before the attack, has also given rise to accusations that Cairo is complicit in the attack.

In southern Lebanon's Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp, 4,000 protesters marched through the cramped streets and alleys, condemning the attacks in general, and Egypt in particular.

"Hosni Mubarak, you agent of the Americans, you traitor!" they shouted. They also called on Hezbollah to attack Israel.

For his part, Lebanon's Prime Minister Fuad Saniora described the Israeli attacks as a "criminal operation" and "new massacres to be added to its full record of massacres."

Arab foreign ministers are now rushing to Cairo for an emergency meeting of the Arab League on Sunday to address the crisis, said its chairman Amr Moussa.

Hundreds of protesters in the Jordanian capital of Amman demonstrated in front of the nearby U.N. headquarters, waving Hamas banners and condemning Israel's strikes.

King Abdullah II called for an immediate halt "all military actions" in a statement, saying the attacks "targeted innocents among the civilians including women and children."

The king warned that "violence will only escalate the crisis and will not bring security to Israel."

In Syria's al-Yarmouk camp, outside Damascus, dozens of Palestinians also protested the attack as well, vowing to continue fighting Israel.

"It's a Zionist holocaust, but it won't dissuade us from going on with our struggle to achieve our goals," said Ali Barakah, 42, one of the protesters.

Hamas urges military wing to fire long-range rockets

Hamas spokesman calls on movement’s military wing to fire rockets deep into Israel

Ali Waked Published:    12.27.08, 13:53 / Israel News

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3644947,00.html

Hamas prepares to respond: The Hamas movement called on its military wing Saturday to fire long-range rockets at Israeli communities in response to the IDF’s assault on Gaza.

Hamas spokesman Fauzi Barhoum characterized the aerial strikes as a crime against all the Palestinian people. “We are
calling on the al-Qassam Brigades to fire as far as possible,”
he said.

Barhoum said that Palestinian groups will not surrender despite the Israeli strike, which according to Palestinian reports claimed the lives of more than 100 people. The dead include senior members of the Palestinian police and of Hamas’ military wing. Some students were also reportedly hurt in the attacks.

The various Palestinian factions in the Strip characterized the Israeli assault as an “open war” and made it clear that they are preparing for what’s to come. Popular Resistance Committees Spokesman Abu Mujihad told Ynet that Palestinian groups have prepared a series of “surprises” for Israel.

The spokesman said that Gaza organizations will not be deterred by the aerial assault and will proceed to fire rockets at Israeli communities that were previously out of the line of fire. According to estimates, Palestinian groups are preparing to launch rockets from deep within the Strip, and not only from areas near the border with Israel.

Palestinian sources in Gaza told Ynet about panic among civilians in the Strip in the wake of the aerial assault. A Khan Younis resident said that locals are stockpiling food supplies for fear that the IDF’s next target would be the smuggling tunnels in the southern part of the Strip. “People here are scared. Anyone who can go down to the market and buy what needs to be bought is doing it,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hamas media outlets are calling on the masses in the territories and in the Arab world to hit the streets and protest the major strikes. The group’s television station called on the masses in Arab states to oust Israeli embassies and fight anyone who is contributing to the blockade of the Strip or cooperating with the “Israeli enemy.”

Israeli army leader threatens full military force in Gaza
Saed Bannoura - IMEMC

Thursday December 25, 2008

Israeli Army Chief of Staff, Gabi Ashkenazi, threatened on Thursday that the army is willing to conduct any military offensive instructed by the government. He said that this means that the army would use full military force and would strike all resistance factions in Gaza.

Ashkenazi also said that the Israeli air force is prepared to conduct any offense required to carry this attack.

He added that the situation in settlements surrounding the Gaza Strip cannot continue as resistance factions are firing homemade shells at these areas in retaliation to Israeli military attacks.

"The army will strike hard, will target the infrastructure of armed groups in Gaza", Ashkenazi said, "The army will alter the security situation in the south".

Palestinian missiles kill an Israeli man in Netivot, bombard Ashkelon, Ashdod alerted

http://www.debka.com/headline.php?hid=5798

December 27, 2008, 2:40 PM (GMT+02:00)

In Hamas' first reprisals for the 40 Israeli air strikes which destroyed its compounds across the Gaza Strip Saturday, Dec. 27, a Palestinian missile struck a home in Netivot, killing an Israeli man and injuring 7 people, 3 seriously, another hit Kiryat Gath and a volley of missiles was sent against Ashkelon.

Israelis living within 20 km of the Gaza Strip were ordered to remain in areas protected from missile attack after Hamas and other Palestinian factions threatened revenge. The entire region was placed in a state of emergency and Israeli police forces poured in. The IDF has opened a war emergency room. Magen David Adom's medical aid service is on its highest alert level.

The Israeli military spokesman said that the Gaza operation in the wake of eight consecutive days of missile, mortar and rocket attacks is "just beginning." It would be expanded and intensified if needed.

Israeli officers calculate that the missiles Hamas has sent crashing into Israel in the past week are a fraction of their capabilities which are estimated at 200 a day, on a par with Hizballah's blitz against Galilee in the 2006 Lebanon war. They include new missiles with a 42 km range which can reach farther afield from their present limits of Ashkelon in the north and Netivot in the East. Five southern Israeli cities, including the outskirts of Beersheba, are now within Palestinian missile range.

Hamas misled, surprised by Israeli air offensive

DEBKAfile Exclusive Analysis

December 27, 2008, 3:42 PM (GMT+02:00)

Hamas compounds in Gaza under Israeli air attack

http://www.debka.com/headline.php?hid=5799

In an air offensive dubbed "Cast Lead," Saturday, Dec. 27, some 60 Israeli bombers struck 100 targets, destroying dozens of Hamas military compounds across the Gaza Strip in reprisal for the Palestinian long-term missile blitz.

The operation had two elements of surprise:

1. Media reports emanating from official sources in Jerusalem Friday, Dec. 25, conveyed the impression that the major military operation approved by the Israeli cabinet had been called off for the time being, at least until the cabinet reconvened for a reassessment.

2. Egypt misled Hamas, reporting reliable information that Israeli would not strike on Saturday, its Sabbath Day.

Some Hamas commanders and operatives felt safe enough to come out of their hideouts in the tunnels and bunkers under Gaza – estimated at 80 km long - and hold a graduation ceremony on the parade ground at their command headquarters in Gaza City. The Israeli air strike there accounted for the largest number of casualties.

The other 40 air raids destroyed Hamas installations across the enclave. The casualty toll Saturday afternoon was 154 dead and 270 injured, some civilians. According to DEBKAfile's military sources, the bulk of Hamas strength escaped harm. They played it safe and stayed underground, also guarding their long-range missile and rocket arsenal.

After the first wave of air attacks, the Israeli military spokesman said the operation was just beginning and would be expanded and deepened as needed. Defense minister Ehud Barak warned Israelis that hard times were ahead.

The expected Hamas reprisals came quickly. Before burying their dead, they sent missiles flying to Ashkelon, then Netivot, where an Israeli man was killed and seven people were injured. Kiryat Gat was hit by a missile and Ashdod's citizens heard sirens. Both are on the outer perimeter of Hamas long-range missiles and have been unscathed until now.

Israel is holding ready the option of a major ground incursion if Palestinian missile attacks remain at a high level.

A big question hangs over whether Iran will send Hizballah to open a second front from Lebanon in response to the Israeli air operation in Gaza. According to DEBKAfile's intelligence sources, the Hizballah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, paid a secret visit to Tehran in the third week of November to clarify this very question. A short while later, the al Qods commander, Gen. Qassem Suleimani, arrived in Beirut. Most probably, they tied up the ends of a possible Hizballah response to the expected Israeli Gaza operation during that visit. Hence the Israeli military spokesman's warning that the Gaza air operation was just the beginning and could be expanded as needed.

195+ dead because of a couple of home-made missiles made out of fertilizer that managed to reach Israel, but killed nobody, that were shot because Israel continued to kill Hamas people even though there was a ceasefire. Typical Israeli strategies. "Look we tried to have a ceasefire, but they kept shooting rockets, so we had to respond."  Kill a bunch of people, and thus put the two state solution back years. Let's not forget this is the direct reason Israel created hamas in the first place, this is mainstream news:

It's genious. Divide the Palestinians and keep them infighting, make sure the Europeans can't take the Palestinians serious because they're led by a bunch of bearded crazies, and whenever any serious move is made towards ending the occupation, wait for a bunch of rockets to come in, "retaliate" and continue the occupation.

You all know this but i have to say it anyway.

The Isrealy Gov. has shut of the Palestinians from human aid, being medicines foods etc.

What did they expect!!!!!!!!!!  These people to lay down and die.
Now that Isarel has its own within Obys crew, we shall see the end result.
As for  our GOV>
Lets not forget the SS Liberty, the facts that Mossad knew of the truck bombing on the marine barracks during Reagans years, and allowed it.( Victor Ostrovsky-Ex Mossad whistle blower).

Total and unabashed support have been given to Israel from our Rulers.

They ( our illustrious Pols) will have their charade to appease the public, their press film, and propaganda , thats it.  Does America agree with this Gulag the Israelies have imposed on the Palestinains, looks like it does it not.

I don't give one shiite if they were squaters, or whatever other defense they can come up with. They are ther now, and they are human beings, innocents by far. Did the infants and children asked to be born in this shithole.

If nations realy gave one twit, they would have the initiative to at least offer sanctuary to the woman and children, or do they make a pony show, and use the NSM for their cowardice and nothing changes.
They have just killed in the hundreds, how many before this have died of lack of medicine, starvation, malnutrition.

Lets hear for Mr. Obama, we know he has pledged unfailing support to Israel, despite the fact he is well aware that they have created a concentration camp.

I mean, AN ISRAELI DIED!!!!!  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked They can do no less than unleash all their might against anyone who killed one of their citizens!

Ignore the fact that they started it and killed hundreds and injured hundreds.  Roll Eyes

I bet in the US, the only "news" we get is about the "terrible" attack upon Isreal that killed a person and injured some.

Looks like we didn't have to wait for the fuse in the middle east to finally be lit. Only a matter of time until either Hamas launches a huge response with their longer range missiles or Israel invades the strip with ground forces. There's a media blackout on this for some reason, I'm thinking the Israelis' jumped the gun. I see a spark between India and Pakistan on the horizon. TS is really gonna hit that fan now. Hasn't Israel been threatening to attack Lebanon again? They attacked Syria not that long ago and Syria hasn't responded as is their right. Could we see a response from Lebanon and Syria? Things could escalate very quickly here as we all know the entire middle east is a powder keg.

Agreed,  sparks are flying all over the region. The Zionist bankers need war to save their financial network of Ponzi schemes.  Will Israel ask for money from the US (paid in yen) to pay for this Gaza incursion and other "projects"?--I have no doubt.

Larson, we already gave Israel money for this offensive. We also gave them that new anti-missile system not too long ago. Russia gave Lebanon 10 migs recently as a gift and has decided to follow through with their deal to give Iran the S-300 anti-missile system (correct me if I'm wrong please), so Israel is running out of time on their ambitions to attack Iran, Syria, Lebanon and wipe out the whole Palestinian society. All paid for by the bankers. OH S**T, it just dawned on me. The Banksters funded both world wars, the govt. just gave them $8 trillion. This HAS to be where the money is going, another world war. It's so freakin obvious, next thing you know Obama will be assasinated by some guy who looks to be Iranian or Pakistani. Then Biden can call for a draft and declare war on either country, or even both. If you haven't prepared, you better hurry the hell up people. the brown stuff is gonna hit the fan and it won't be pretty.
