I've been waiting with my 666th post, regardless of whether one believes in this number being evil or not, I'm finding it appopriate to use it on something I consider as being evil. More precisely, mind control..
Here's a link to the internet version of the 60 minutes story:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/12/31/60minutes/main4694713.shtmlA brief review of what it contains:
>> When we think "screwdriver" or "igloo" for example, Just says neurons start firing at varying levels of intensity in different areas throughout the brain. "And we found that we could identify which object they were thinking about from their brain activation patterns," he said.
"We're identifying the thought that's occurring. It's…incredible, just incredible," he added.
"Are you saying that if you think of a hammer, that your brain is identical to my brain when I think of a hammer?" Stahl asked.
"Not identical. We have idiosyncrasies. Maybe I've had a bad experience with a hammer and you haven't, but it's close enough to identify each other's thoughts. So, you know, that was never known before," Just explained <<One of the major issues I found with it was a subject they raised themselves, even tho a person thinks a certain thought, or a chain of thoughts, such as intentions, or cravings - it's not necessarily each and every time we go through with the thought(s) we have.
More links to stories about this subject (just the immediate results from off google, and yes I'm not boycotting google today, when I do I use yahoo.. one of the only ones I know): "fmri scanning mind reading" - the search words I used on google btw..

http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2008/mar/06/medicalresearchJust a few personal opinions/statements on the issue:
For example, when you play a computer game and feel like you in an unjust way get killed, or are mistreated, at least for me personally (and as far as I know a lot of kids react this way too), you wanna just grab the person who did it and smack them upside the head for half an hour to 'teach them a lesson'.. Now, as sad a behaviour that is, it still occurs.. Granted it is rare that we have the opportunity to actually go through with such ideas so it might be hard to use this case as an example to prove that people don't always go through with the ideas that we come up with. But anyway, I know from when I have been playing 'beat em up' games with friends in the past, when they totally dominate you (me), you (I) want to kick their ass so they don't do it again - or something along these lines..
A more hands on case might be when you go shopping and you think about buying something, or even intend on buying it, it's not always you do so. This may be for many differing reasons, like when you want to buy perhaps a piece of chocolate, you may decide in the end not to, either because it will be costing you too much, or because you think it will make you fat, or simply because you think it's unhealthy and decide to - for this moment at least - to live healthy..
Ok enough of the personal statements..
And on to the dramatic parts..:
The potential for abuse of this technology is actual, factual and quite real, real-time mindcontrol.. Among other things I'm sure but this is the most dreadful issue I can think of that's connected to this .. well in lack of a better description, devilish or demonic technology.. - and now don't get me wrong I'm not one of the people who think technologies are evil or of the devil or watever, I quite enjoy and find many of our technologies *positive* for the way we live our lives.. In my eyes, technology is a tool we use to ease the ways we live our lives, like the tractor enabling us to not use horses or other animals to pull the plow through the fields, or pulling it ourselves. Or the car allowing us to singularly travel greater distances in shorter time and with far greater ease than if we would have to run, or ride a horse..
To me technologies *are* our main tool(s) to get a LOT more out of life than we are able to without them. Hereby NOT said that I consider matrix-like situations beneficial for humanity even tho I'm sure it could be argued that it would/could make us enjoy life to even greater extents than we are now, but I don't agree to this being an ideal world to live in since we lose too much control and independancy in favor of the possibility of greater levels of enjoyment, to put it in a rather cold, sterile, feelingless, and perhaps intellectual way.
To me, *all* of life is a matter of balance, a matter of constant evaluation of whether or not things are worth their costs and/or potential costs (not trying to sound like a money fixated corporation here, Im sorry if I am, but it's the best way of expressing myself I have right now, and I'm afraid if I use too much time contemplating my words I'll get too much off track from what I really want to say here with this .. like it seems I already am.. ugh..).
Like I was saying, to me life is constantly important to assess and evaluate so that we don't lose control of it and let it go to hell. Now, I know Alex has said that 'humans cannot bring us a utopia' - this might have been taken out of context, he might've misspoken or he might've ment something along these lines but not exactly that - but anyways, I personally do believe that we humans *are* able to bring about a utopia, a heaven on eart.. But I also believe we are able to bring about a hell on earth, not just one but many, hells on earth - to back up this theory I point towards the societies that are imagined within "1984", "Animal Farm", the "The Matrix" trilogy, and many other films and/or series.
My point with the stuff right above this, is, that this particular piece of technology, or this "science" - and I say "science" with great dislike since I consider science a golden key for mankind and seeing it used like this does actually at times make me cry in dispair, not break down entirely but to the very least shed a tear and fills me with rage, luckily I'm still able to turn it around and channel it into fuel to fight FOR life, to fight the "new world order" (or old world order, or current world order, or more precicely, the fascistic/dictatorial malicious world order) - this "science" .. is *not* a science we as a species are ready for, or ready to handle. I'm sure that some time in the future we could greatly benefit from knowing how our mind(s) work(s) - and I acknowledge that we might *need* it in the times we're living in - but with the way the world is run in, well, ALL countries, this technology is almost sure to be used *against* us, rather than *for* us, if that's a proper way to express it...
.. .. So why am I presenting this information and telling you all of this?
Well first of all, I consider this one of the 'oh my god your house is on fire' issues.
I share this with you so that you may be prewarned and somehow prearmed.
I share this with you, so that you may fight it in whatever (no, not violently, violence is the way of our enemies, not the way of us, the peaceful, peace loving, life loving people) way you may be able to fight it, or turn it against the nwo themselves, perhaps in a hope that they might see the errors of their ways, altho I doubt that they would care ...
I think that's about all I have to say on this subject, and I leave it to you people to discuss and/or debate. And find out how you want to deal with it, I think I've stated how I'm dealing with it, so I will move on to the next battlefront and see what I can do there.
- Undoubtedly I will probably (undoubtedly I will probably.. that doesnt make total sense does it? :s hehe) come back to check up on this topic and see how things are going and possibly even participate in it's discussion. But for now I've said more than enough and feel like I should take a step back and let you guys get a word in.
May peace, love and prosperity be with you all..
Keep fighting the good fight!
regards, the high iq'd con-soul.. (high iq'd, not perfect :p)
