Here in Europe this has turned into a virtual epidemic, with everything from silica to grit being added to the plant, and virtually no warnings from the government or detailed studies into the long term effects from smoking these contaminated batches.

I live in the uk ( manchester), and the market here is absolutely saturated with the stuff. People just don't seem to know it's going on, or, how bad it really is. With silicosis being a progressive and irreversible condition surely we're sitting on an absolute time bomb

I tend to feel that it's not part of a big eugenics masterplan, it's just criminal gangs that are adding this poison to the plant to add weight to it, therefore increasing their profit margins.

However , i do feel that criminal gangs adding silica etc to marijuana is no different to criminal governments adding fluoride to water, or cancer viruses to vaccines. A large portion of people use marijuana recreationally and it disgusts me that the powers that be have given absolutely no warning to the public

I have spoken to many people regarding this situation and most don't even seem to care, but people being poisoned is still and always will be a crime in my book. Legalisation has to be the answer surely?......

Aye tell me about it. I'm in manc too. I've quit, it sucks that it goes on but there's nothing that can be done about it, last lot I had was sprayed with silicone and I ended up chucking it in the bin.

with the silicone spray it's not something you can physically see so much, it looks crystally, and when you touch it it's a little greasy almost, leaves a residue on your fingers, and also the ash goes rock hard too. not good.

piff is the american equivalent to the grit type, its actually the same thing that cigarettes are sprayed with to make them go out if not inhaled. its not as deadly as glass/silicone/sand grit but over time it does the same.

it is sick, unless you trust your source it may be laced with something.

Tainted cocaine linked to 7 cases of illness in Alberta

Seven people in Alberta have developed a form of immune system suppression after consuming cocaine laced with a chemical compound, public health officials said Friday.

The individuals developed agranulocytosis, a condition that makes the immune system incapable of fighting off infections.

It makes common infections become serious, even fatal, quite quickly.

"We are advising anyone who develops a fever or other signs of infection and has used cocaine to seek medical attention quickly," Dr. Gerry Predy, Alberta's Acting Chief Medical Officer of Health, said in a news release.

"Any skin abscess or lung infection that develops rapidly should also be treated immediately."

Officials have linked the cases to cocaine laced with levamisole, a chemical compound developed to treat intestinal worms in humans and animals.

The cases were reported in Edmonton, Red Deer, and in undisclosed locations in southern and northern Alberta.

Doctors in Alberta have been advised they should test and treat patients for this condition if they complain of a fever or other signs of infection after using cocaine.

Its coming from Holland, the gangs there are buying it wet of the growers then laying it all out in a big room, they spray it with silica,sand etc then they dry it quick so the bud shrinks trapping the sand in, the silica sticks, but you can see it at the bottom of the bags. Its only good for the bin. There were reports of them putting metals in it too and the large scale buyers were taking magnets with them to check it wasn't garbage..

Thats what happens when the criminal governments make safe meds illegal to futher there own companies

I've actually got a batch of the silicone sprayed product that you've described and it seems at the minute to be the most common found in manchester. I've also heard of lubricant being added, as well as a sugary type substance.

Obviously this poison is worldwide now. Time to learn how to grow methinks !

that is a real concern, the government imports the products where its illegal. they use gangs where the police cant cover the task, i have seen black suburbans with federal plates move where the gangs cant too making it serious. most people who sell it know its contaminated and dont smoke it, others just are not competent enough to realize that the government is charging for its welfare.

The sad truth is there are many addicts. I know loads. They'd smoke a tv set if it got 'em high.

If home grown isn't an option & the only stuff they can get is contaminated, they'll do it.

I remember getting some stuff that was sprayed with bug spray.  It screwed my whole body up and I didn't find out til after the fact.

Now I rarely smoke, if at all.  If I were you guys I'd go sober, get some seeds, and attempt to manage your own plant.  I've grown about five but I got rid of them all because of paranoia.  But it works...so try it out.  It's just that the penalty is steep.  They'll charge you with intent to sell and all that crap regardless of whether or not you were selling...

quick description of Silicosis...

When small silica dust particles are inhaled, they can embed themselves deeply into the tiny alveolar sacs and ducts in the lungs, where oxygen and carbon dioxide gases are exchanged. There, the lungs cannot clear out the dust by mucous or coughing.

When fine particles of silica dust are deposited in the lungs, macrophages that ingest the dust particles will set off an inflammation response by releasing tumor necrosis factors, interleukin-1, leukotriene B4 and other cytokines. In turn, these stimulate fibroblasts to proliferate and produce collagen around the silica particle, thus resulting in fibrosis and the formation of the nodular lesions. The inflammatory effects of crystalline silica are apparently mediated by the Nalp3 inflammasome.[1]

Furthermore, the surface of silicon dust can generate silicon-based radicals that lead to the production of hydroxyl and oxygen radicals, as well as hydrogen peroxide, which can inflict damage to the surrounding cells.

The amount of contaminated cannabis available in the UK has greatly increased after the UK governments crackdown on cannabis growers in 2006. I'm not sure the market in the uk, or at least in the north is dane controlled. 60% of ours is "homegrown" in cannabis farms, usually run by
Vietnamese gangs. They bring the people over and then simply use them as slave labour.

But the sad fact is it's true regarding some contamination, they are spraying silica on the bud to add weight..
