Hey guys,

Well first off I’ve only been awaken to things for about a month now and how I wish it was much sooner! I’m looking into getting myself better prepared for anything which might happen by making some small changes that I can do now and not set me back a lot until I can save up again. However I want/need to have at least one good gun and oh what luck but a gun and knife show is being hosted in town this weekend!

I’m still in a pinch but can spare a couple hundred and still be able to get some Christmas gifts for the family. I feel like this will be my most prime time to find a weapon of choice and would like some good suggestions for a reliable gun that isn’t too expensive. I don’t own any credit cards (about the best thing post awaking I chose to do), and I doubt any financing would be available.

I’m more accustom to firing a rifle, but am not sure if I should invest in a pistol instead. I personally think I’d feel safer with a rifle, but I also know it has its limits where a pistol would be better.

So basically if this is to be a worst case scenario where it’s the last chance to get a gun on a limited budget what would you suggest?

And on a side note, I do own a pre WWI Mauser pistol I picked up for the antiquity. The shop owner insured me that it would fire just that the sighting was off and distance wasn’t great. I haven’t fired it, but am now wondering if maybe I should give it a try? My father also has some of the guns that we would go hunting with, but I think they’re so small caliber it wouldn’t do much good, I only recall two of them which was a 22 rifle and 14guage shotgun.

Mosin Nagant

60-80 dollars.

7.62X54r

Sythetic stock 65.00 dollars

Get a decent piece of glass with etched glass cross hairs NOT wires.

440 rounds for about 80.00

It will take down big animals.

Look online for accurized or replacement barrels for the Nagant.

There are alot of options. You just have to get creative sometimes.

Pistols are great really up close
Then you have to take into account distance after that and penetration power.

Thanks for the reply.

The Mosin Nagant was one I had been thinking about. I’ll be keeping an eye out for that one at the show. I’m just thinking that the vendors coming will mostly be selling newer high dollar guns or just some cheap junk. The last one I went too looking for knives had its fair share of cheap blades, so that was one concern of mine going to this one for a gun as well.

Is it easy to find them? I was looking at few online but would like to take it home with same day.  Smiley

I am doing research but figured there might be some good advice here and give me some options to refine things. I certinaly don't want go out and get whatever I can lay my hands on without doing the homework first.

Thanks for listing the shotgun. I've been keeping them in mind as well.

you should research guns yourself.i got a mossberg 500 shotgun.very good for me.nevers jams never messes up so long as i keep it clean.

Had one for 15 years and it has never been cleaned, a few thousand shells through it and it is works, same for my 870. Try that with the benelli and it stops working.

Mosin Nagant

Good luck going up against a full auto MP40, or M16 with that.
I'll stick with my Saiga AK w/3x12x50 zoom scope

Thats a very good gun, but you won't get 2 shots off going up against the big boys with it, unless you are off in the distance, and they have night vision, you don't. While youre standing there trying to re-chamber it, they will be firing.

If you want something that size, but better, get an FN-FAL. It ain't bolt-action. It is by far the best gun I have ever shot.

Get a pistol sidearm too. You can't go wrong with a backup.

In most situations I'd reccomend a shotgun. Bolt/lever action rifles are good, and reliable, but for close quarter's, the shotgun is ideal.

I know people rave on about SMG's and assault rifles, but they are only good for suppressing, non aimed fire. That'll make someone keep their heads down. The British army, whilst it had the FN FAL as it's main rifle, trained soldiers to fire semi auto only. There's a number of reasons for those, that aren't applicable to all guns

1) The FN-FAL fires really big 7.62x51mm rounds, these have a lot of kick. Firing this in full auto would make all subsequent shots ride up.

2) Firing in semi auto mode makes people conserve their ammo, which saves money. If you're purchasing your own ammunition (instead of stealing tax payers money for it) You'd want to make every shot count.

3) The FN-FAL had a 20 round magazine, full auto would last all of two seconds before requiring reloading.
