My 9 mo old keeps getting these ear infections. Seems to be about once a month or thereabouts. I hate just keeping on giving him antibiotics, but have tried herbal ear drops, and ecchinicea w goldenseal drops. None of it seems to do much. Are there others with kids that have had ear infections in their kids and used some non "medicine" treatments that have worked?

Both my kids had ear infections when they were little.  I always used prescribed antibiotics.
it seems to work.  When they became older, it stopped.

We do not use antibiotics in the family and follow holistic ways, but it was an exception.

If you remove milk products from his diet he may stop having them.  Switching to rice dream instead of milk may do the trick.  I doubt he eats cheese at his age....  all milk products can cause this problem.

Have you tried any homeopathic remedies? They are safe for babies and breast milk is fine for babies with ear infections. I'm not sure if I can put up links here, but here is one for homeopathic remedies for ear infections. http://abchomeopathy.com/c.php/175

Not to sound really stupid, but have you ever considered that maybe the child is simply putting his hands in his diaper and then in his ears spreading fecal matter?

I'm not trying to be ignorant in any matter but I cannot even get my 6 year old to stop putting his hands in his pants and then running around touching door knobs and so forth.

If you (or your wife) are nursing, dribble your milk into his ears. Human milk has the proper antibodies in it.

If you aren't nursing, then please consider getting some probiotics for him. At least, if you feel you MUST keep giving him antibiotics, at least the probiotics will protect his most important (and if not nursing, extremely undeveloped) primary immune "organ" (the intestines).

I was listening to this podcast a few days ago

http://www.naturalnews.com/podcasts/ByronRichardsFybromyalgiaPodcast2008.mp3

If I remember correctly, it mentions that babies get ear infections because they get their shots. And the toxins plug up their lymph system. It also mentions dairy is very bad for people with a plugged lymph system.

Try to avoid antibiotics if at all possible. Use them too much and you end up like me, with two sets of tubes in my ears and pretty much no response at all anymore to weaker, cheaper antibiotics like amoxicillin or even erythromycin. I have to take Cipro for infections now. It sucks.
