Kelleher points to a 9,000 percent increase in the domestic diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease since 1979. That year, according to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control, 653 people died of Alzheimer's disease in the United States. Twenty-three years later, in 2002, 58,785 people died of Alzheimer's. To him, it's an increase that cannot be explained simply by an aging population and advanced diagnosis techniques.

Medicare claims for Alzheimer's disease skyrocket 250 percent
http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2004-07/aa-mcf070704.php
Studies describe devastating international cost of Alzheimer's disease.
PHILADELPHIA, July 19, 2004 – The rate of Medicare beneficiaries identified as having Alzheimer's disease rose 250 percent during the 1990s, according to a study reported at The 9th International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (ICAD), presented by the Alzheimer's Association. This and three other studies suggest that Alzheimer's disease is the public health crisis of the 21st century as diagnosis and awareness of Alzheimer's disease increases.

"Unless a prevention or cure is found soon, Alzheimer's disease will overwhelm our already stretched health care system and bankrupt Medicare and Medicaid," said Sheldon Goldberg, president and CEO, Alzheimer's Association. "Medicare expenditures for people with Alzheimer's are almost three times higher than the average for all beneficiaries. The cost to Medicare will rise 55 percent to $50 billion in less than 10 years and the cost to Medicaid will soar by 80 percent, to $33 billion."

The Medicare claims study, by P. Murali Doraiswamy M.D., Donald H. Taylor Jr., Ph.D., and Frank Sloan, Ph.D. at Duke University, analyzed data from approximately 30,000 Medicare beneficiaries from 1991 to 1999. The study showed an increase in Alzheimer's disease for all groups studied, but particularly among African Americans, among whom identification increased by 460 percent.

"The good news is these Medicare claims are telling us that African-Americans are receiving better access to care and are being properly diagnosed, especially African-American women who historically don't see physicians regularly," said Taylor, associate director of public policy at Duke. "The bad news is there will be an increase in treatment costs and more overall pressure on the Medicare system."

According to the Alzheimer's Association, as baby boomers enter the age of greatest risk the number of new cases will increase by nearly 1 million each year. The total number of people with the disease will explode from an estimated 4.5 million today to as many as 16 million by 2050. Current national direct and indirect costs of caring for individuals with Alzheimer's have reached at least $100 billion, according to estimates used by the Association and the National Institute of Aging.

Another study presented at ICAD, by Henry A. Glick, Ph.D., School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, examined the costs of care during the 15-year period after a person has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The data, from approximately 1,600 patients, analyzed the years of institutional care, hours of paid and informal care, and discounted costs of paid community, institutional and medical care. The results showed:

# The average cost per year to care for a man with Alzheimer's was approximately $9,710.
# The average cost per year to care for a woman with Alzheimer's was approximately $16,327 – almost twice as high as men. This is attributed to longer life expectancies, spending more time in institutions, and having more hours of paid and informal care.
# The cost of care in the later stages of the disease was substantially greater than the costs in earlier stages of the disease.

"We need more money invested for basic and clinical Alzheimer research," said Glick. "Discovering methods to treat Alzheimer's that are substantially more effective or less costly not only will improve the quality of life of those with Alzheimer's, but will also lower health care costs."

A study presented by Shalini L. Kulasingam, Ph.D., and colleagues at Duke University Medical Center, also found that costs rise dramatically as Alzheimer's disease progresses. In a review of published studies tracking annual medical costs at different stages of disease severity, the researchers found that direct costs alone for individuals in the advanced stages were 60 to 200 percent higher than for those with mild Alzheimer's.

The cost of care for those with Alzheimer's isn't only a concern in the United States. A study by Arthur Zbrozek, M.S. of Wyeth Research and colleagues showed that the total annual cost for formal dementia care across Europe is approximately $104 billion (87.22 billion Euros).

To expedite effective treatment and prevention of Alzheimer's, the Alzheimer's Association calls for:

# $1 billion in annual federal funding for Alzheimer research.
# Changing the way Americans think about Alzheimer's. The Association is asking Americans to "Maintain Your Brain" – learn more about what is known about Alzheimer's; understand how managing lifestyle risk factors can improve brain health, and join the Association in advocating for a renewed commitment to research and improved care for those with Alzheimer's.
# Establishing a targeted chronic care benefit within Medicare to control the high costs of care for beneficiaries with dementia and other complex chronic conditions.
# Enhancing care and support services for persons with Alzheimer's by assuring that research findings are translated into improved care and treatments for patients.

On-The-Job Lead Exposure Could Increase Alzheimer's Risk

ScienceDaily (May 5, 2000) — SAN DIEGO, CA - Occupational lead exposure may have long-term effects and dramatically increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease in later years, according to research presented during the American Academy of Neurology's 52nd Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA, April 29 - May 6, 2000.

People who have worked in jobs with high levels of lead exposure are up to 3.4 times more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease.

"Lead exposure remains a major public concern because of its adverse effects on brain development and health in general, even with low exposure levels," said Elisabeth Koss, PhD, study lead author at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals of Cleveland, Ohio. "This study suggests that we also need to be concerned because of very long-lasting changes to the nervous system that may increase the risk for Alzheimer's disease.

The study compared the occupational histories of 185 people with Alzheimer's disease to 303 people without Alzheimer's. Utilizing hazard lists developed by the National Occupational Exposure Survey, researchers estimated the probability of toxic exposure to a variety of agents used in each occupation. That occupation exposure was then multiplied by the number of years a person worked at a job to determine lifetime exposure.

In addition to lead, researchers examined exposure to aluminum, copper, iron, mercury, zinc and solvents (a group of chemicals including paint thinners, cleaning fluids and benzene).

Although previous studies have raised concerns about possible relationships between Alzheimer's and many of these metals, including aluminum and solvents, only lead exposure was found to increase the risk of Alzheimer's. The researchers believe that these concerns may have been due to the unrecognized effect of lead as many occupations involve multiple exposures to numerous potentially toxic materials.

"Although lead has long been known to be toxic - and is believed to have affected the brains of some of the rulers of the Roman Empire, thereby causing its downfall - its long-term damages are difficult to measure, and thus, the extent of its negative effects have been largely overlooked," said Koss.

In the workplace, people are most often exposed to lead by either breathing lead dust, which is considered to be the most toxic, or by direct skin contact. Activities that can expose workers to lead are 1) smelting or casting lead; 2) removing lead coatings (welding, brazing, cutting, sanding or blasting old paints); 3) heating, machining or spraying lead products, and 4) making lead products (lead-acid battery manufacturing, lead glazing pottery making, cable production, ammunition manufacture, production of lead pipe, cable shielding, electronic components, paint and ink manufacture).

Earlier studies have shown that education has a protective effect against Alzheimer's. As people with less education are more likely to work in blue-collar jobs where there is a greater chance of toxic exposure than white-collar jobs, the researchers statistically adjusted for participants' education levels.

The Alzheimer's patients in the study were also older than those without the disease. Koss noted that this could be related to a decrease in on-the-job toxic exposures due to more recent governmental regulations that enforce relatively safer work conditions.

"Public health efforts have been successful in removing lead from sources, such as gasoline and lead-soldered food and drink cans," commented Koss. "However, we need to remain vigilant about other sources of lead in the home and in the work place, including decaying old paint, contaminated soil or drinking water, hobbies and occupational exposure."

Relation between Aluminum Concentrations in Drinking Water and Alzheimer's Disease: An 8-year Follow-up Study
http://aje.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/152/1/59
Virginie Rondeau, Daniel Commenges, Hélène Jacqmin-Gadda and Jean-François Dartigues

From the INSERM Unité 330, Université Victor Segalen Bordeaux II, 33076 Bordeaux, France. (Reprint requests to Dr. Virginie Rondeau at this address.)

To investigate the effect of aluminum and silica in drinking water on the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease, the authors analyzed data from a large prospective cohort (Paquid), including 3,777 subjects aged 65 years and over living at home in 75 civil parishes in Gironde and Dordogne in southwestern France in 1988–1989. The subjects were followed for up for 8 years with an active search for incident cases of dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Mean exposure to aluminum and silica in drinking water was estimated in each area. The sample studied included 2,698 nondemented subjects at baseline, for whom components of drinking water and covariates were available. A total of 253 incident cases of dementia (with 17 exposed to high levels of aluminum), including 182 Alzheimer's disease (with 13 exposed to high aluminum levels), were identified. The relative risk of dementia adjusted for age, gender, educational level, place of residence, and wine consumption was 1.99 (95 percent CI: 1.20, 3.28) for subjects exposed to an aluminum concentration greater than 0.1 mg/liter. This result was confirmed for Alzheimer's disease (adjusted relative risk = 2.14, 95 percent CI: 1.21, 3.80). However, no dose-response relation was found. Inversely, the adjusted relative risk of dementia for subjects exposed to silica (>=11.25 mg/liter) was 0.74 (95 percent CI: 0.58, 0.96). These findings support the hypothesis that a high concentration of aluminum in drinking water may be a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease.

It seems that exposure to toxic metals can increase your risk of Alzheimer's, doesn't it? Therefore, you'd assume that we make sure there are no toxic metals in the vaccines we give to the elderly, because in that case they'd be directly injected into their blood. Well, it's just the opposite.
The government admits most flu shots still contain Thimerosal, which is 50% Mercury:
http://www.cdc.gov/FLU/ABOUT/QA/thimerosal.htm
They are for some reason among the few vaccines still containing this dangerous chemical , since this has now been phased out of the majority of currently used vaccines.
And for some reason, more and more people are now being given the influenza vaccine. It used to be just people over 65 who were recommended to get the vaccine. Then it became everyone over 50 and infants. Now it's everyone under 18, and everyone over 50:

So, let's look at what Mercury does to a person's brain, since it's in the vaccines:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VImCpWzXJ_w
There are three things in this video you have to remember:
1: This quote: "In 1997 a team of research scientists demosntrated that mercury vapor inhalation by animals produced a molecular lesion in brain protein metabolism produced a lesion that is seen in 80% of Alzheimer's diseased brains.
2: The Neurofibrillary tangles shown.
3: The free Amyloid beta, that is caused by the Mercury.
Why, because the first shows evidence that Mercury causes Alzheimer's and after reading the other two, you will understand the main symptoms in Alzheimer's:
Quote
http://alzheimers.about.com/od/caregivers/a/alz_brain.htm
The two major findings in the Alzheimer's brain are amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. Amyloid plaques are found outside the neurons, neurofibrillary plaques are found inside the neurons. Neurons are the nerve cells within the brain.
Plaques and tangles are found in the brains of people without Alzheimer's. It is the gross amounts of them that are significant in Alzheimer's disease.

The role of amyloid plaques in Alzheimer's
Amyloid plaques are mostly made up of a protein called B-amyloid protein which is itself part of a much larger protein called APP (amyloid precursor protein). These are amino acids.
We do not know what APP does. But we do know that APP is made in the cell, transported to the cell membrane and later broken down. Two major pathways are involved in breakdown of APP (amyloid precursor protein). One pathway is normal and causes no problem. The second results in the changes seen in Alzheimer's and in some of the other dementias.
Are you starting to understand what is going on? If not, here are two quotes of leading scientists that should get you thinking:
Quote
http://www.whale.to/vaccines/flu11.html
Vancouver neuroscientist Chris Shaw shows a link between the aluminum hydroxide used in vaccines, and symptoms associated with Parkinson’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease), and Alzheimer’s.....“This is suspicious,” he told the Georgia Straight in a phone interview from his lab near Heather Street and West 12th Avenue. “Either this [link] is known by industry and it was never made public, or industry was never made to do these studies by Health Canada. I’m not sure which is scarier.”   Similar adjuvants are used in the following vaccines, according to Shaw’s paper: hepatitis A and B, and the Pentacel cocktail, which vaccinates against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, and a type of meningitis....“No one in my lab wants to get vaccinated,” he said. “This totally creeped us out. We weren’t out there to poke holes in vaccines. But all of a sudden, oh my God—we’ve got neuron death!” ---[Media 3/2006 Aluminium adjuvant] Vaccines show sinister side

"According to Hugh Fudenberg, MD (http://members.aol.com/nitrf), the world's leading immunogeneticist and 13th most quoted biologist of our times (nearly 850 papers in peer review journals), if an individual has had five consecutive flu shots between 1970 and 1980 (the years studied) his/her chances of getting Alzheimer's Disease is ten times higher than if they had one, two or no shots. I asked Dr. Fudenberg why this was so and he said it was due to the mercury and aluminum that is in every flu shot (and most childhood shots).  The gradual mercury and aluminum buildup in the brain causes cognitive dysfunction.  Is that why Alzheimer's is expected to quadruple? Notes: Recorded from Dr. Fudenberg's speech at the NVIC International Vaccine Conference, Arlington, VA September, 1997.  Quoted with permission. Alzheimer's to quadruple statement is from John's Hopkins Newsletter Nov 1998."

Mortality from Alzheimer Disease -- United States, 1979-1987
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00001820.htm
Although age-adjusted death rates for many leading causes of death inthe United States declined from 1979 through 1987 (1), the rates for Alzheimer disease (AD)* (International Classification of Disease, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) rubric 331.0) increased substantially. To characterize mortality patterns for AD and related disorders, CDC analyzed U.S. mortality data for 1979-1987. This report provides a preliminary summary of findingsfrom this analysis.

Deaths from AD were analyzed using data from multiple cause-of-death data tapes supplied by CDC's National Center for Health Statistics. Denominators for calculating rates were obtained from intercensal population estimates. Age-adjusted death rates were standardized to the 1980 U.S. population.

From 1979 through 1987, AD was listed as the underlying cause of death for 46,202 persons in the United States. The age-adjusted annual death rate increased from 0.4 per 100,000 persons in 1979 to 4.2 per 100,000 persons in 1987 (Figure 1). For men, the annual rate increased from 0.5 to 4.6 per 100,000, and for women, from 0.3 to 3.9 per 100,000. For blacks and whites, rates increased with age; increases were higher for the older age groups (Table 1). Within each age group, the rate for whites was higher than for blacks.

In 1987, age-adjusted death rates were highest in the Rocky Mountain states and in New England (Table 2). Montana and Utah had the highest rates in 1987 and the greatest differences in rates between 1979 and 1987. New York and Alaska had the lowest rates in 1987 and the smallest differences in rates between 1979 and 1987.

To examine the hypothesis that shifts in diagnoses accounted for the changes in rates, investigators compared age-adjusted death rates for AD, senile and presenile dementias (ICD-9-CM rubrics 290.0 and 290.1, respectively), and senility (ICD-9-CM rubric 797) (Table3). For both AD and the dementias, rates increased from 1979 to 1987; in comparison, the rate for senility declined. Reported by: Div of Chronic Disease Control and Community Intervention, Office of Surveillance and Analysis, and Office of the Director, Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion,CDC.

Don't forget that in addition to everything stated above that:

Gardasil contains something like 225 Mcg (Micrograms) of Aluminum.  (SHUT UP and stay mesmerized by the TV set in your home).

Industrial Fluoride compounds such as what is added to municipal water supplies has a strong affinity to Aluminum atoms and increases the bodies uptake of Aluminum by around 600x!!!

Google "fluoridated salt", and realize that there is almost no salt that exists that you can buy that doesn't have fluoride in it (presumably from the evaporation process of making it with tap water [I wonder how much fluoride is in the Ocean now]-the fluoride compounds remain with the Sodium Chloride).  Oh and by the way, if you look at the ingredients of all those salt packets at restaurants and most salt you can buy with the possible exception of sea salt, it contains Sodium SilicoALUMINATE (an Aluminum compound, to "prevent caking")!  BIG SUPRISE.

Let's see is America addicted to salt and salty foods?  Hmmm...

How many food products have salt (probably almost exclusively fluoridated salt) in them?  You do the math.

To put this another way:

How many salt manufactures advertise themselves with:  "We do not make our salt with/from fluoridated water supplies, nor do we add any fluoride."

So most salt made available to us is in and of itself a bio-weapon.  A)  not only does it contain Aluminum, but it contains B)  Fluoride which makes sure your brain absorbs 600x more Aluminum so you stay nice and relatively chilled the f**k out (and/or have Alzheimer's and are too stupid to even know what "troops" are) when we send UN troops to fill your guts full of lead and blow off the limbs of you and your disgusting children that are  wasting space on OUR Earth.  SHUT UP SLAVES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Criminal, parasitic? What are you, a terrorist? Our oligarchs love us. How do you want to buy a new iPhone when those evil Ayrabs are holding all your dollars? Bill Gates and Warren Buffet short the dollar, because that's the patriotic thing to do!

I have 3 uncles right now with Alzheimer's and my father before he died developed this also.  From what I can figure, it does seem to be associated with the flu vaccine.  My father was fine before he started taking the flu vaccine every year.  And I also know that my uncles also take it.  It is pushed on the elders!!

I can testify to that...I worked at a pharmacy this time last year and the older people were all getting asked by the pharmacists, "Did you get your flu shot?" like they were children or something, and they're so used to just taking orders from people in white coats they just roll up their sleeve without thinking.
