From the time I entered public school and throughout elementary school, I remember being given standardized tests with my classmates. We were told it was because the government was tracking all of us (born in 72) through the education system. I don't remember ever being given the reason why, other than the results were going to help everyone.

Does anyone else remember this? Are there any old elementary teachers out there who remember giving these tests? Many of my old classmates remember this as well, though none of us have been able to find anything out about it.

I have been wondering what these really were, and what they were used for.

sane posted a good video about the education system a while a back, and their use of standardized tests. i started school in 89, so the tests we were given were probably quite a bit different, but some of the so called "opinion" tests were actually scored exams, with real right and wrong answers, with a general ideology of "going with the flow" so to speak. the entire school system in this country is controlled by corrupt men with self centered interests, and is an institute devoted to the manipulation and control of children at an early age. why do you think the standard of education has fallen so low? they could easily fix this if they wanted to, with the proper curriculum and paying attention to individual needs, but instead they seek to conform the students into the same category, rather then encourage individuality and general education.

I would love to see that video.

It may be the same thing, but the kids born after 72, until at least 79 that I know, don't have a clue about it at all.  Even when I was a kid, other classmates who were born in 71 or 73 were excluded.

born some 10 years before that, seeing the moonwalk on a tv in the classroom.
being taught to duck and cover under our desks lacing our fingers over the back of our necks for air raid sirens, we were schooled all about the a-bomb.
psychologically programmed in futility when our world may end tomorrow...
true damage on our outlook on life.

later they became "earthquake drills", as if we would all just magically forget!
I know Tanforan Park burned down before my time, it was for horse racing...
but was also used as a concentration camp for Americans of Japanese descent.

the peace movement was demonized as a buncha dirty hippies, which was easy for the government and media to do when the government controlled the people with DRUGS, first it was a big promotion of pot, which DID promote some PEACE.. then they brought in the LSD, cocaine, amphetamines and heroin.
by the end of the early 70's they had played the people like violins.

the equality movement had suffered similarly, what was a peaceful movement was infiltrated and many had gone militant. the media demonized this too.

all through schooling I remember special testings, scan-tron cards, never getting to see or know the results. when I was a sophomore in high school the
military came in to give us the ASFAB. they told us we could leave when we were finished with the test. I looked at the test and all the questions and thought "why should I tell these OD green wearing MoFo's what all I know?"
I filled in the C on every question and left ASAP.... can you say AMF ?
it was an act of defiance, "YOU DONT OWN ME". other kids were taking the tests seriously, later joining the military too, not for me, I knew about vietnam.

the real test:
I was shopping a couple months ago and the total was $3.65, I handed the cashier a 5.00 bill, dug deeper for 15 cents. the cashier stopped completely,
not a movement or word for near 2 full minutes, I swear I heard gears stripping!
finally I told her.. 2 quarters for the laundromat and a dollar bill.. or 6 quarters would be even better... poor kid was lost. she looked 20-22 yrs old and I'm sure she was a highschool graduate, I couldda done that math in my head by age 8.
it isnt her fault the schools raised her totally dependant on a calculator that she couldnt run 2 function math with to save her life, or make change.

parents were mad that their kids werent passing the SAT exams,
they made the tests easier, more kids passed, parents were happy.
sad but true, this IS how things are now for most younger folks.
