Just got this email from Impeachbush.org. Right Now: Veterans Climb Government Building, Call for Arrest of Bush and Cheney Impeachment movement challenges Bush at every turn The enormous banner hanging from the National Archive building... right now! Right now, five military veterans -- from Veterans for Peace -- are occupying a 35-foot high ledge at the National Archive Building and have raised a 22x8-foot banner reading, "DEFEND OUR CONSTITUTION. ARREST BUSH AND CHENEY: WAR CRIMINALS!" The veterans currently risking arrest have declared their intention to stay on the ledge, fasting for 24 hours "in remembrance of those who have perished and those still suffering from the crimes of the Bush administration," according to a written statement. On the ledge, the veterans have brought with them a portable PA system, and they are broadcasting recorded statements from prominent Americans for the impeachment and/or arrest of George W. Bush and Richard Cheney. Other impeachment activists are at the entrance of the National Archives distributing "Citizens Arrest Warrants" to those waiting in line. This is the type of boldness that activists have displayed across the country to bring much-needed attention to this movement. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Impeachment on the move Every week and month, the Bush administration seems to add to its long list of impeachable crimes. This month's crime: the handing over of $700 billion of tax-payer dollars to his buddies on Wall Street. ImpeachBush.org has launched a nationwide initiative called VoteNoBailout to stop Bush's bailout legislation. Since yesterday, over 56,000 letters have been sent to Congress saying the White House has no right to transfer the people's money to the richest people in the country. The impeachment movement is exposing these crimes on every front, raising the questions the corporate media won't, and taking dramatic action when needed. From the Bush administration's unspeakable war crimes to the recent bankers' coup d'etat, the impeachment movement has been at the forefront of the fight back.

From the webbots... http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message511028/pg1 Time frame is wrong, but the rest is correct: May-June 2008
*More of the same – but somewhere in here we get a temporal marker as a group of veterans takes over a national monument and the powers- that-be stand down because of the media coverage.
We need to call local tv and radio stations if they dont provide coverage. Its the least we can do and only takes a couple minutes.

Good move, veterans! Unfortunately I am sure the security forces won't let them stay up on that ledge for very long. They will probably end up in jail.

Getting mainstream coverage: Anti-war veterans unfurl 'Arrest Bush/Cheney' banner at National Archives At 7:30 a.m. this morning, they climbed a nine-foot fence to occupy a 35-foot-high ledge at the National Archives. And five members of the Veterans for Peace organization have been there ever since. They say they're veterans of Vietnam and Iraq, anti-war activists, and soldiers for a cause who plan to fast for 24 hours in protest of the Bush administration. Seeking the criminal prosecution of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, the organization distributed "Citizens' Arrest Warrants" to tourists waiting in line to enter the archives, which houses the key documents of U.S. history: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. In a press release, the group described the reasons for its protest: Bush and Cheney’s serial abuse of the law of the land clearly marks them as domestic enemies of the Constitution. They have illegally invaded and occupied Iraq, deliberately destroyed civilian infrastructure, authorized torture, and unlawfully detained prisoners. These actions clearly mark them as war criminals. Accountability extends beyond impeachment to prosecution for war crimes even after their terms of office expire.... We are not conducting ourselves in a disorderly manner; our action is well-ordered and well-considered. We are not trespassing; we have come to the home of our Constitution to honor our oath to defend it.So far, authorities have not interfered with the peaceful protest or the sign. Yes, there's a sign. A 22-foot-by-x8-foot banner draped across the Constitution Avenue side of the archives says, “DEFEND OUR CONSTITUTION. ARREST BUSH AND CHENEY: WAR CRIMINALS!” -- Johanna Neuman Photo: Veterans for Peace http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/presidentbush/2008/09/arrest-bush-che.html

GREAT, PROUD OF THESE MEN DOESN'T COME CLOSE TO HOW I FEEL.
Bless their hearts, courage and conscience.
This will give other Vets. the edge they will need to do what has been buzzing around in their minds, an example of courage, and a methodry to let loose, to get out their anger, to put aside their depression, to bring out the truth.

these heros have giant red white and blue balls
oh wait...that didn't come out right.
Seriously though, that is a STRONG message and I love it when it comes from a group of people who have sacrificed for this country...really tough for them to marginalize veterans.

I posted a message a few days ago because someone was asking for ideas. I recommended tapping into the Veteran's for their support. Seems like a match to me.

Thanks for digging that up. I wonder though why these champions of the Constitution also champion the idea of "democracy"? Are they missing that part or what? This really confuses me because America is supposed to be a republic, not a democracy, and there's a key difference between the two.
