Alan Weisman stated fairly categorically that, "I’ve found that theoretically wiping humans off the face of the earth intrigues rather than frightens people."

One might parse his hypothetical with the many and varried methods of removing humans from the earth, but since most of those methods will involve decimating the earth's fauna and flora as well as humankind, we are left with a highly focused statement about targeting humanity.
