A government surveyor was sent to survey the boundaries of the Mark Twain forest in Southern Missouri this month as the Chinese are going to hold it as collateral against the mounting US debt - incredible!

I work at a small town newspaper in Southwest Missouri and the story was confirmed by two local land owners adjacent to the forest.  I can get their names and statements and even put it in our paper but I'm sure the fallout would get me fired.

No links, as this just came out from a local realtor that listed a business adjacent to the forest.  The owner conveyed the information to the realtor.  The realtor then called a relative that owns land on the other side of the forest and the same government surveyor was there recently and told him the same thing - that the government sent him to survey, etc...

                International Union for Conservation of Nature
                and Natural Resources

                By virtue of the authority vested in me as President by
                the Constitution and the laws of the United States,
                including sections 1 and 14 of the International
                Organizations Immunities Act (22 U.S.C. 288 et seq., as
                amended by section 426 of the Foreign Relations
                Authorization Act, Fiscal Years 1994 and 1995, Public
                Law 103-236), I hereby extend to the International
                Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources
                the privileges and immunities that provide or pertain
                to immunity from suit. To this effect, the following
                sections of the International Organizations Immunities
                Act shall not apply to the International Union for
                Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources:

                    --Section 2(b), 22 U.S.C. 288a(b), that provides
                international organizations and their property and
                assets with the same immunity from suit and judicial
                process as is enjoyed by foreign governments.
                    --Section 2(c), 22 U.S.C. 288a(c), that provides
                that the property and assets of international
                organizations shall be immune from search and
                confiscation and that their archives shall be
                inviolable.
                    --Section 7(b), 22 U.S.C. 288d(b), that provides
                the representatives of foreign governments in or to
                international organizations and the officers and

I think I'm gonna hold my horses on the Mark Twain story until we see concrete proof. Not to disrespect the original poster but to preserve our movement's credibility.
It certainly wouldn't surprise me if true but as much as I'd like to, I can't run and tell all my friends from MO about it unless they can research it and see for themselves it's true.

i don't see the big deal.  they can buy land here legally.  plus that park is probably not nearly worth the amount of money that is owed to them.  if that's the collateral this country's getting off light.  honestly i don't believe the story off hand either.  why would china want land in missourri as collateral? (sorry if i offended any show me staters).  unless they got plans on building a base here.  even that doesn't bother me since we got bases everywhere so it would only make sense people want to have a base here (who was the south american leader who said the US can have a base there if they are allowed to have a base here after he didn't renew the contract for our base there?).  also we need to be watching out for what our country is doing to us more than what china might do.  every second worrying about china is a second distracted from the real people we need to be watching.

I just called the land owner today and I'm waiting for him to call back.  I will follow up the story this weekend.  If they are doing this in Missouri they have got to be doing this with other federally held lands.  We've got to take this country back.  This government has NO RIGHT to collaterize our land.  NO RIGHT.

I just talked to the landowner this morning - 7/21.

His name is Reggie and he told me, "A government surveyor did come out here."  I asked him if the surveyor had said why.  Reggie said the surveyor responded, "I have to find some corners and lines for the forest because the government is needing to put it up as collaterol for the stimulus package."

Reggie also stated that the same surveyor visited another land owner and repeated the same story when questioned.  I have that land owner's contact information and I will contact him when I have some time.  Hopefully tonight or tomorrow.

When I asked Reggie if we could do a story on this for the paper he was reluctant for obvious reasons.  Hopefully, the next contact will be more willing.  Suffice it to say, this is NO BULL story.  This is happening whether you want to believe it or not
