no, you have to properly extract the dvd using a dvd ripper and then re-burn it from there. nero should do it for you on pc or toast titanium on mac.

I can suggest that the Terrorstorm film straight from the original DVD is too big to burn to a normal 4.7 GB disk. If you still have the disk, first download DVD Shrink 3.2 off the Internet. It is quite a small file and free to download. Use it to get the file to a size that will fit on to a normal DVD. It is quite straightforward. Then from DVD shrink you can burn a copy - DVD Shrink tells you to insert a blank DVD and then use that copy you have burnt yourself as your original for burning to blanks.

The fast and easy way: download and install imgburn: http://imgburn.com/index.php?act=download (don't accidentally click on any of the google ads--click on one of the mirror links) Open imgburn, insert the dvd movie and click "create image file from disc" Insert a blank dvd disc and click "write image file to disc" You can save the image file (.iso extension) to burn as many dvd copies as you need. Since you're working with an image file, you don't have to mess with the dvd files or structure.

I assume you downloaded the divx? Most dvd players will now play divx movies, but some won't recognize the .divx extension so change it to .avi, then burn the file or files (you can get 4 divx movies on 1 dvd disc) to disc and any divx-ready dvd player will be able to play it. If you have to convert from divx to a standard dvd, that's tricky--I'll let someone else answer that one.

On Windows, you should be able to use TMPGEnc Xpress to convert a DIVX video to a DVD-standard MPEG-2 file and then use TMPGEnc DVD Author to author and burn the DVD. Just remember that TMPGEnc products (from Pegasys Inc.) are commercial products. On Linux, you need to install all the audio and video encoders and decoders and use a program such as Kino to convert the DIVX file into a DVD-standard MPEG-2 file. To author and burn a DVD, I believe the latest version of Brasero now allows you to author and burn a video DVD from MPEG-2 files. Also, if you download a DVD ISO, you can also use Brasero and similar programs (especially Gnomebaker and K3b) to burn the image to a blank DVD and creating a video DVD which should play in any DVD video player.

DVD shrink did all of this for me. If you downloaded the actual video files to be played on a dvd, you need to insert them into the VIDEO_TS folder. It should play ok. I will look into this and see what format the download was in.
EDIT:
I meant to ask, where is the file you are downloading and trying to play on dvd?

If you're on Linux/Unix, you can use "De Ve De" to create the DVD image (ISO), which I usually use for quick Video DVD conversion (there are a number of others). You might look at QDvdAuthor for more complex DVD authoring features. In the end, you use something like K3B (among many others) to do the actual burn to DVD.

I tend to use Brasero to burn Video-DVDs (I create my DVDs as ISO images). The only time I use K3b is to burn audio CDs (which I also do on GnomeBaker). DeVeDe is pretty boss. Almost forgot. The newest versions of Brasero also allow you to author and burn video DVDs.

Good to know, I already have it installed, I'll have to give it a whirl next time! --pikeaero

so you're using a mac right? in toast select the movies tab, choose "VIDEO_TS Folders", drag the terrorstorm VIDEO_TS folder into the window, click burn and hey presto.
