Former TV presenter David Icke has told Sky News Online he is standing in next month's Haltemprice and Howden by-election to raise awareness of the "global elite" trying to take over the world.

He says he wants to warn the public about the shadowy group intent on forming a global army and creating a worldwide DNA database.

The former footballer has received £5,000 in donations to help him stand under the title "Big Brother - The Big Picture" in the by-election on July 10.

The seat became empty after David Davis' surprise decision to resign as an MP in protest at the Government's anti-terror laws.

Mr Icke praised the senior Conservative's decision to force a by-election over the 42-day detention laws.

But he said Gordon Brown's "Orwellian" government was only a cog in a bigger wheel, and that the same erosion of civil liberties was taking place around the world - all in the name of terror.

He told Sky News Online: "I am not standing to win, I am standing to make a point. What David Davis has done is great.

"But it's not just happening with the Labour party, it's happening everywhere.

"The fact the Big Brother society is coming is blatantly ... obvious and I want a debate about that."

Mr Icke became a figure of ridicule when he announced on the Wogan show that he was a channel for the Christ spirit.

For the past two decades, he has been campaigning against the powers he claims are behind global politics.

He claims a "network of interbreeding families" - that includes the Bush family - are trying to form a world government.

He says the New York terror attacks were the work of this Illuminati, and were used as a moral platform to invade Iraq.

Mr Icke said he was using the by-election as his own platform to publicise his warning - and hopes he gets no votes.

He added: "My worst nightmare would be to end up in Parliament - it's so inconsequential because bureaucrats in Europe now make all the decisions."

i think the same question needs to be asked that a Jello Biafra said a supporter for him for mayor carried around on a sign - 'What if he won?!'

good old David Icke - he is quite right in that him standing, already being well known in the mainstream, will in fact heighten, to an extent, awareness of certain issues.

perhaps even a chance to use all that ridicule he faced to his advantage in that people will pay him a little more attention as they alraedy know him from BBC sports but most of all from his Wogan humiliation all those years ago (circa 1993)

I mean let us face it, Murdoch's Skynews have an item that mentions the Illuminati and 9-11, now that is sure as hell a first even if they are mocking somewhat - at least it registers in people's consciousnesses.

he has already said he will not take up his seat if he wins as he will not swear allegience to the Crown

This may show that the Davis resignation was a true acknowledgment of what's going on. Looks like this Davis guy may have woken up to the system that was compartmentalising him. Even someone as high as Shadow secretary apparently takes this long to wake up. Truly amazing.

news just in, found on GLP - I will check the validity of this and start a thread on it if true

David Icke Arrested

Officers from the Hampshire police force raided David Icke's home and offices this morning

David has been arrested, and several members of his staff are 'helping police with their enquiries'

Counter Terrorism Security Advisors, in conjunction with unidentified officers from the Metropolitan Police have sealed off two addresses on the Isle of Wight

We don't know what charges David is facing, although we know that counter-terrorism units are involved in the operation, nor do we know when he'll be free to give a statement

His website is currently down and looks like staying that way for the time being

There is speculation that his arrest could be linked to the arrest of journalist Tony Gosling, or that it is part of a wider crackdown on alternative researchers. I emphasise that this is speculation

This is all we know at the moment. Take care

yes his website is fine so hopefully it is just BS posted by someone posing as Icke's employee- Sean

but with Tony Gosling's arrest yesterday (or Tuesday) you never know, seemingly you can be arrested now in the Uk for exposing Mossad involvement in false flag events.

He doesn't need to take his seat to make an impact, case in point Bobby Sands.(Yes I know I'm going to get it from Irish Republicans for equating David Icke and Bobby Sands, they both fight/fought for freedom, granted David Icke didn't go on hunger strike, but the principals are the same).David Icke says the royal family are shape-shifting reptiles,I wont say Bobby Sands did but I would imagine though he had a few other kinds of choice words to call them  Wink

Even if he did,so what Boris Johnson is mayor of London, come on he couldn't be anymore insane(Icke that is)that him  Cheesy

Just like we all are. He seriously didnt deserve to be ridiculed for that obvious truth...

And people who do mass murdering across the globe deserve to be called reptiles anyway, since metaphorically it's true.

I have never seen so many candidates, I wonder if someone is getting people to stand to take attention away from Icke, also to make David Davis look less than impressive

I mean 13 independent's plus nearly every very small party except thje major small parties (no UKIP or Green or BNP or Respect)

definitely odd

Come on, now. Do we really need to turn everything into a conspiracy? Icke only just recently announced his place, so no, people aren't in there to "take attention away" from the man. They were in first.

The reason there are loads of people is because this Davis thing has been a high-profile thing, so there is a big demand. Just look at all the independents. Davis, if you read the other articles on him, is making a challenge to people to fight the system. People are answering that challenge. People are stepping up against Big Brother, just probably not as directly as Icke.

If Icke gets regularly on TV over this thing it would be great. But he won't. I mean, they really don't want people looking into his books. It would destroy the system. They want people knowing him as a joke candidate so that he is ignored, but don't want to mention him too many times.
