TRAGEDY AND HOPE
by:  Carroll Quigley 1966

Excerpted from pp. 950 - 955 - detailing the establishment of the "New York branch of the ROYAL INSTITUTE OF INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS". . . the:

COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS

There does exist, and has existed for a generation, an international Anglophile network which operates, to some extent, in the way the radical Right believes the Communists act.  In fact, this network, which we may identify as the Round Table Group has no aversion to cooperating with the Communists, of any other groups, and frequently does so.

I know of the operations of this network because I have studied it for twenty years and was permitted for two years, in the early 1960's, to examine its papers and secret records.  I have no aversion to it or to most of its aims and have, for much of my life, been close to it and to many of its instruments.

I have objected, but in the past and recently, to a few of its policies (notably to its belief that England was an Atlantic rather than a European Power and must be allied, or even federated, with the United States and must remain isolated from Europe), but in general my chief difference of opinion is that it wished to remain unknown, and I believe its role in history is significant enough to be known.

The Round Table Groups have already been mentioned in this book several times, notably in connection with the formation of the British Commonwealth in chapter 4 and in the discussion of appeasement in chapter 12 ("the Cliveden Set").

At the risk of some repetition, the story will be summarized here, because the American branch of this oganization (sometimes called the "Eastern Establishment") has played a very significant role in the history of the United States in the last generation.

The Round Table Groups were semi-secret discussion and lobbying groups organized by Lionel Curtis, Philip H. Kerr (Lord Lothian), and (Sir) William S. Marris in 1908-1911.  This was done on behalf of Lord Milner, the dominant Trustee of the Rhodes Trust in the two decades 1905-1925.

The original purpose of these groups was to seek to federate the English-speaking world along lines laid down by Cecil Rhodes (1853-1902) and William T. Stead, (1840-1912), and the money for the organizational work came originally from the Rhodes Trust.

By 1915 Round Table groups existed in seven countries, including England, South Africa, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, and a rather loosely organized group in the United States (George Louis Beer, Walter Lippman, Frank Avdelotte, Whitney Shepardson, Thomas W. Lamont, Jerome D. Greene, Erwin D. Canham of the Christian Science Monitor, and others).

The attitudes of the various groups were coordinated by frequent visits and discussions and by a well-informed and totally anonymous quarterly magazine, The Round Table, whose first issue, largely written by Philip Kerr, appeared in November 1910.

The leaders of this group were: Milner, until his death in 1915, followed by Curtis (1872-1955), Robert H. (Lord) Brand -- brother-in-law of Lady Astor -- until his death in 1963, and now Adam D. Marris, son of Sir William and Brand's successor as managing director of Lazard Brothers bank. The original intention had been to have collegial leadership, but Milner was too secretive and headstrong to share the role.

He did so only in the period 1913-1919 when he held regular meetings with some of his closest friends to coordinate their activities as a pressure group in the struggle with Wilhelmine Germany. This they called their "Ginger Group".  After Milner's death in 1925, the leadership was largely shared by the survivors of Milner's 'Kindergarten', that is, the group of young Oxford men whom he used as civil servants in his reconstruction of South Africa in 1901-1910.

Brand was the last survivor of the "Kindergarten", since his death, the greatly reduced activities of the organization have been exercised largely through the Editorial Committee of The Round Table magazine under Adam Marris.

Money for the widely ramified activities of this organization came originally from the associates and followers of Cecil Rhodes, chiefly from the Rhodes Trust itself, and from wealthy associates such as the Beit brothers, from Sir Abe Bailey, and (after 1915) from the Astor family.

Since 1925 there have been substantial contributions from wealthy individuals and from foundations and firms associated with the international banking fraternity, especially the Carnegie United Kingdom Trust, and other organizations associated with J.P. Morgan, the Rockefeller and Whitney families, and the associates of Lazard Brothers and of Morgan, Grenfell, and Company.

The chief backbone of this organization grew up along the already existing financial cooperation running from the Morgan Bank in New York to a group of international financiers in London led by Lazard Brothers.

Milner himself in 1901 had refused a fabulous offer, worth up to 100,000 a year, to become one of the three partners of the Morgan Bank in London, in succession to the younger J.P. Morgan who moved from London to join his father in New York (eventually the vacancy went to E.C. Grenfell, so that the London affiliate of Morgan became known as Morgan, Grenfell, and Company).

Instead, Milner became director of a number of public banks, chiefly the London Joint Stock Bank, corporate precursor of the Midland Bank.  He became one of the greatest political and financial powers in England, with his disciples strategically placed throughout England in significant places, such as the editorship of The Times, the editorship of The Observer, the managing directorship of Lazard Brothers, various administrative posts, and even Cabinet positions.

Ramifications were established in politics, high finance, Oxford and London universities, periodicals, the civil service, and tax exempt foundations.

At the end of the war of 1914, it became clear that the organization of this system had to be greatly extended.  Once again the task was entrusted to Lionel Curtis who established, in England and each dominion, a front organization to the existing local Round Table Group.

This front organization, called the royal Institute of International Affairs, had as its nucleus in each area the existing submerged Round Table Group.  In New York it was known as the Council on Foreign Relations and was a front for J.P. Morgan and Company in association with the very small American Round Table Group.

The American organizers were dominated by the large number of Morgan "experts", including Lamont and Beer, who had gone to the Paris Peace Conference and there became close friends with the similar group of English "experts" which had been recruited by the Milner group.

In fact, the original plans for the Royal Institute of International Affairs and the Council on Foreign Relations were drawn up at Paris.

The Council of the RIIA (which, by Curtis's energy came to be housed in Chatham House, across St. James's Square from the Astors, and was soon known by the name of the headquarters) and the board of the Council on Foreign Relations have carried ever since the marks of their origin.

Until 1960 the council at Chatham House was dominated by the dwindling group of Milner's associates, while the paid staff members were largely the agents of Lionel Curtis.  The Round Table for years (until 1960) was edited from the back door of Chatham House grounds in Ormond Yard, and its telephone came through the Chatham House switchboard.

The New York branch was dominated by the associates of the Morgan Bank.  For example, in 1928 the Council on Foreign relations had John W. Davis as president, Paul Cravath as vice-president, and a council of thirteen others, which included Owen D. Young, russell C. Leffingwell, Norman Davis, Allen Dulles, George W. Wickersham, Frank L. Polk, Whitney Shepardson, Isaiah Bowman, Stephen P. Duggan, and Otto Kahn.

Throughout its history, the council has been associated with the American Round Tablers, such as Beer, Lippmann, Shepardson, and Jerome Greene.

The academic figures have been those linked to Morgan, such as James T. Shotwell, Charles Seymour, Joseph P. Chamberlain, Philip Jessup, Isaiah Bowman and, more recently, Philip Moseley, Grayson L. Kirk, and Henry W. Wriston.

The Wall Street contracts with these were created originally from Morgan's influence in handling large academic endowments.  In the case of the largest of these endowments, that at Harvard, the influence was usually exercised indirectly through "State Street", Boston, which, for much of the twentieth century, came through the Boston banker Thomas Nelson Perkins.

Closely allied with this Morgan influence were a small group of Wall Street law firms, whose chief figures were Elihu Root, John W. Davis, Paul D. Cravath, Russell Leffingwell, the Dulles brothers and, more recently, Arthur H. Dean, Philip D. Reed, and John J. McCloy.  Other nonlegal agents of Morgan included men like Owen D. Young and Norman H. Davis.

On this basis, which was originally financial and goes back to George Peabody, there grew up in the twentieth century a power structure between London and New York which penetrated deeply into university life, the press, and the practice of foreign policy.

In England the center was the Round Table Group, while in the United States it was J.P. Morgan and Company or its local branches in Boston, Philadelphia, and Cleveland.

Some rather incidental examples of the operations of this structure are very revealing, just because they are incidental.  For example, it set up in Princeton a reasonable copy of the Round Table Group's chief Oxford headquarters, All Souls College.

This copy, called the Institute for Advanced Study, and best known, perhaps, as the refuge of Einstein, Oppenheimer, John von Neumann, and George F. Kennan, was organized by Abraham Flexner of the Carnegie Foundation and Rockefeller's General Education Board after he had experienced the delights of All Souls while serving as Rhodes Memorial Lecturer at Oxford.  The plans were largely drawn by Tom Jones, one of the Round Table's most active intriguers and foundation administrators.

The American branch of this "English Establishment" exerted much of its influence through five American newspapers (The New York Times, New York Herald Tribune, Christian Science Monitor, the Washington Post, and the lamented Boston Evening Transcript )

In fact, the editor of the Christian Science Monitor was the chief American correspondent (anonymously) of The Round Table, and Lord Lothian, the original editor of The Round Table and later secretary of the Rhodes Trust (1925-1939) and ambassador to Washington, was a frequent writer in the Monitor.

It might be mentioned that the existence of this Wall Street Anglo-American axis is quite obvious once it is pointed out.

It is reflected in the fact that such Wall Street luminaries as John W. Davis, Lewis Douglas, Jock Whitney, and Douglas Dillon were appointed to be American ambassadors in London.

This double international network in which the Round Table groups formed the semi-secret or secret nuclei of the Institutes of International Affairs was extended into a third network in 1935, organized by the same people for the same motives.

Once again the mastermind was Lionel Curtis, and the earlier Round Table Groups and Institutes of International Affairs were used as nuclei for the new network.

However, this new organization for Pacific affairs was extended to ten countries, while the Round Table Groups existed only in seven.  The new additions, ultimately China, Japan, France, the Netherlands, and Soviet Russia, had Pacific councils set up from scratch.

In Canada, australia, and New Zealand, Pacific councils, interlocked and dominated by the Institutes of International Affairs, were set up.

In England, Chatham House served as the English center for both nets, while in the United States the two were parallel creations (not subordinate) of the Wall Street allies of the Morgan Bank. The financing came from the same international banking groups and their subsidiary commercial and industrial firms.

In England, Chatham House was financed for both networks by the contributions of Sir Abe Bailey, the Astor family, and additional funds largely acquired by the persuasive powers of Lionel Curtis. The financial difficulties of the IPR Councils in the British Dominions in the depression of 1929-1935 resulted in a very revealing effort to save money, when the local Institute of International Affairs absorbed the local Pacific Council, both of which were, in a way, expensive and needless fronts for the local Round Table groups.

The chief aims of this elaborate, semi-secret organization were largely commendable: to coordinate the international activities and outlooks of all the English-speaking world into one (which would largely, it is true, be that of the London group); to work to maintain the peace; to help backward, colonial, and underdeveloped areas to advance toward stability, law and order, and prosperity along lines somewhat similar to those taught at Oxford and the University of London (especially the School of Economics and the Schools of African and Oriental Studies).

These organizations and their financial backers were in no sense reactionary or Fascistic persons, as Communist propaganda would like to depict them.  Quite the contrary.

They were gracious and cultured gentlemen of somewhat limited social experience who were much concerned with the freedom of expression of minorities and the rule of law for all, who constantly thought in terms of Anglo-American solidarity, of political partition and federation, and who were convinced that they could gracefully civilize the Boers of South Africa, the Irish, the Arabs, and the Hindus, and who are largely responsible for the partitions of Ireland, Palestine, and India, as well as the federations of South Africa, Central Africa, and the West Indies.

Their desire to win over the opposition by cooperation worked with Smuts but failed with Hertzog, worked with Gandhi but failed with Menon, worked with Stresemann but failed with Hitler, and has shown little chance of working with any Soviet leader. If their failures now loom larger than their successes, this should not be allowed to conceal the high motives with which they attempted both.

It was this group of people, whose wealth and influence so exceeded their experience and understanding, who provided much of the frame-work of influence which the Communist sympathizers and fellow travelers took over in the United States in the 1930's.

It must be recognized that the power that these energetic Left-wingers exercised was never their own power or Communist power but was ultimately the power of the international financial coterie, and, once the anger and suspicions of the American people were aroused, as they were by 1950, it was a fairly simple matter to get rid of the Red sympathizers.

Before this could be done, however, a congressional committee, following backward to their source the threads which led from admitted Communists like Whittaker Chamber, through Alger Hiss, and the Carnegie Endowment to Thomas Lamont and the Morgan Bank, fell into the whole complicated network of the interlocking tax-exempt foundations.

The Eighty-third Congress in July 1953 set up a Special Committee to investigate Tax-Exempt Foundations with Representative B. Carroll Reece of Tennessee, as chairman. It soon became clear that people of immense wealth would be unhappy if the investigation went too far and that the "most respected" newspapers in the country, closely allied with these men of wealth, would not get excited enough about any revelations to make the publicity worth while, in terms of votes or campaign contributions.

An interesting report showing the Left-wing associations of the interlocking nexus of tax-exempt foundations was issued in 1954 rather quietly. Four years later, the Reece committee's general counsel, Rene A. Wormser wrote a shocked, but not shocking, book on the subject called Foundations: Their Power and Influence.

One of the most interesting members of this Anglo-American power structure was Jerome D. Greene (1874-1959).  Born in Japan of missionary parents, Greene graduated from Harvard's college and law school by 1899 and became secretary to Harvard's president and corporation in 1901-1910. This gave him contacts with Wall Street which made him general manager of the Rockefeller Institute (1910-1012), assistant to John d. Rockefeller in philanthropic work for two years, then trustee to the Rockefeller Institute, to the Rockefeller foundation, and to the Rockefeller General Education Board until 1939.

For fifteen years (1917-1932) he was with the Boston investment banking firm of Lee, Higginson, and Company, most of the period as its chief officer, as well as with its London branch.  As executive secretary of the American section of the Allied Maritime Transport Council, stationed in London in 1918, he lived in Toynbee Hall, the world's first settlement house, which has been founded by Alfred Milner and his friends in 1984.

This brought him in contact with the Round Table Group in England, a contact which was strengthened in 1919 when he was secretary to the Reparations Commission at the Paris Peace Conference.  Accordingly, on his return to the United States he was one of the early figures in the establishment of the Council on Foreign Relations, which served as the New York branch of Lionel Curtis's Institute of International Affairs.

As an investment banker, Greene is chiefly remembered for his sales of millions of dollars of the fraudulent securities of the Swedish match king, Ivar Kreuger.  That Greene offered these to the American investing public in good faith is evident from the fact that he put a substantial part of his own fortune in the same investments.  As a consequence, Kreuger's suicide in Paris in April 1932 left Greene with little money and no job.  He wrote to Lionel Curtis, asking for help, and was given, for two years, a professorship of international relations at Aberystwyth, Wales.

To all historians it is well known this whole mess is rooted in the British Empire, and prior to that, it's bloodlines dating back to Babylon. However, all the destruction was wreacked under the British Empire, which was not the British Government, But a Privatized Empire that was compartmentalized into companies, such as the British "East India Company", "West India Company", "West Africa Company".

The Royalty and Bankers ran these companies and generally installed high powered insiders in the House of Lords and as Prime Minister (such as Lord Palmerston). Now the Prime Minister is nothing more then a mouth piece, a puppet for what lies beneath.

Just started reading this two weeks ago, I'm ~on page 255ish. Great stuff, and it paints the picture of what times were like leading up to the industrial revolution and beyond.

I got a brand new hard-bound copy of this book today.  It's over 1311 pages long, not including the index.

The hardest part will be reading all of it chronologically without cheating and skipping to chapter 20, which covers "the future" as in: the period we are living in right now...

I'm only on page 16 and I received the book as a gift for Christmas. I've got lots of other books that I still need to read.

Man, Quigley was a serious egghead...

This man probably forgot more about history than I'll ever know.

The book isn't difficult to read, but when he goes off on a tangent it might be 12 pages worth.  :P

Something that stood out for me in the final chapter (yes, I cheated and skipped ahead - couldn't stand it)...

He says when governments have access to far more advanced weapons than the average citizen could ever own or even be trained to use, authoritarianism is the inevitable outcome.

Any genealogy that goes back more than ten generations is probably pure mythology.

My family can supoosedly trace its descent from antiquity, but I consider this highly questionable.

It is the ruling class's (aristocracy's) own myth about itself.  It is part of the rationalization for their own nepotistic social system.  No one else has to buy it.

The commitee of 300 may be very real, but descent from figures of classical mythology, or the bible, or other figures from antiquity are in all likelihood complete fabrications invented centuries ago to add luster to aristocratic lineages.

I was reading the bible a few days ago and a couple new words popped up that I had never noticed before:  "SEED ROYAL"   so I read about them...lots of killing, lots of amassing "others" wealth, and lots of similiarities compared with the "elite"   And on the History Channel a few days ago a storyline about the "Knights of Templer" and their dates were from 1362.  Once again the MO being the same...amassed wealth, wars, lending money to the king etc.

KJV  ll Kings ch11v2
ll Kings ch25v25
ll Chronicles ch22v10     interesting reading, just thought I would mention it[/size]

Knight comes from Cain-ite / Cohn/ or CON. CIon or Si-ON si = moon on= sun  which is the priesthood. Priests were not just scribes or religious men they were mercinaries ( merchant- ary) bankers (bench-ers from the bench they used to sit on) and SCION-tists or scientists. Banking is a religion.

If you can find it ON-line, Quigley has an interview were he starts to get into secret societies.

As a student/scholar of the English language and its development, I have to say those are the most bad etymologies I have ever seen in one paragraph.

On the other hand, you are absloutely on track with the connection between banks and religion (church AND temple -- Jewish AND pagan).

Knight from Old English, "cniht" -- boy, manservant.  Compare German, Dutch "knecht" servant.

Sion/Zion, from Hebrew "itsiyon", or more correctly "Tzedek-Yod-Nun" as ancient Hebrew originally had no vowel markers and we cannot know for sure the pronunciation of this in classical antiquity.  From Old Testament.

Mercenaries (not, "Mercinaries") from Latin, "mercenarius", "hireling".  Note:  "merces" (wages) and "merx" (goods_ ARE related to the modern "merchant."  -- You aren't totally off on this one.

Bank/Banker --  bank does indeed come from "French "banc" (bench).  You are right about this one.

Scientist -- from Latin "scienta/scientia" (knowledge).  There is no "Sc" sound at the begining of Sion.  Phonologically, these words are (likely) not related.

So, to wrap up:

Knight -- No.
Sion -- No.
Mercenary -- Sort of.
Banker -- Yes.
Scientist -- No.

I have no intention, however, of "illuminating" you, simply educating. I'll give you one and a half, maybe two, out of five.

Sorry. I didn't mean to sound like an ass. really I do appreciate the schooling. But I could go look in an etymology dictionary all day long like I used to and look up words and orgins and still not know how the English or Angle-ish language was put together. Why are the spellings different? Why is there occult  binary spellings and  encoding. Have you ever looked at the esoteric dictionary? Shakespere and the King James bible introduced all the new words. And for lack of a better word preists or cons invented all languages. Thanks again it is good to have a discussion.

Well, somebody had to "invent" modern languages, and since only the elite could read and write at the time, it wasn't necessarily a democratic process, and doubtless there was some manipulation of language in the process.

Now, that having been said, some of the words you were talking about have  a much longer history thatn Modern English, so we know they were not necessarily coined by some medieval monks, or early modern elites, of which I am not entirely sure, I would include Mr. Shakespeare, who was admitttedly half-educated and who's son only could enter the aristocracy.  He certainly did contribute to Modern English as it stands, however, as did King James and the author(s) of his "Bible."

Take knight, for instance, it was around though in a slightly different for in Middle English and Old English/Anglo-Saxon. It has cognates in other Germanic languages to this day, though the German word for Knight now is "Ritter."

If it was from Cohn or Con, why would the "o" or (more importantly in Hebrew) the "h" have been dropped to form 'cniht'?  If one subscribes to this theory, one would at least have to explained the process by which the word underwent such a transformation.  This is why I think it is extremely unlikely, besides being unnecessary  -- hence subject to Occam's razor.

What's interesting in studying the word knight is realizing that the aristocracy really owes its existence to its ancestors who were really glorified domestic servants of the royals -- hangers on, if you will.  The "Stewarts" of Sctland, for instance, really were "sty-wards" for the rightful kings of Scotland earlier before accession to the throne.  The rest is history.  Sty-keepers and treasurers to kings.  Without intermarriage to earlier 'royal' families, these tinker-royals would never have had any real mythos that tied themselves into 'royal blood.'The

The etymologies of these words may give us insights into the operations of these elites that pseudo-scientific or "esoteric meanings" would merely help to further obscure.

I've bee-n thin king about this. Ok, the roots of-(eve) words I am not disputing, but when they were switched over to an english spell-ing there were put into an occult with phonetic encoding and backward/ word combo encoding. ING IGHT SION TION ATE etc standardized all the words that were once different. More later gotta go.

OK, but there are very adequate theories as to how these words became part of modern English.  These ending for instance:

-ight is Germanic in orgin.  Cognate in German today, "-icht."

-ing also Germanic in origin -- actually goes back to Anglo-Saxon (sometimes unchanged) -inge/-ige.

-ion, -ate, -tion, -sion are endings added from Medieval Latin as a I recall, like -al ending (adjectives).  Cognates abound in Modern Latin languages.

-io/-tio from classical Latin become -ion, -sion, -tion in Medieval Latin/moern langauges.  No need for connection to Hebrew 'itsiyon' for instance.

I, too, am a student of esoterica nd the occult, but I see no reason to check scholarly knowledge at the door, on the contrary it should be an aid to the esotericist.

The ntire th-read/article is at this address

Black Artisans, Black Dogs, and the B(l)ack-to-front Language

An absolutely fascinating piece of subject matter has presented itself to me of recent days, the Céile Dé Priest Masons, or as they are better known, the Culdees. I will be looking further into them, a lot further, especially as I've received what is meant to be the sacred book of this priesthood; The Kolbrin. I'll be posting more intensive, in depth articles on this group in the future but I'll go with a more free-flowing synch-spec format here. Expect errors that will be corrected in later, more exacting posts.

Consider the following etymological investigation from the Boaz-Over blog (the entire piece there is well worth a read. An eye opener for me on the possibilities for this subject), an article called "The Word Cowan (Part 2)":

Several authors have tried to link the word [sic: cowan] to various linguistic roots, such as Greek kuon (dog) or cohanim, Hebrew for priest. One of them was historian George Oliver (1782 - 1867), a Freemason who believed the original word was cohen, meaning "devoted" or "servant" (or God), the name of the Jewish priest:

"From the affair of Jephtha, an Ephraimite was termed a Cowan or worthless fellow, In Egypt, a cohen was the title of a priest or prince and a term of honour. Bryant, speaking of the harpies, says they were priests of the sun; and as Cohen was the name of a dog, they were termed by Appollionius, 'the dogs of Jove'. Now St. John cautions the Christian brethren that 'without are dogs' [kuves] cowans or listeners; and St.paul exhorts the Christians to 'beware of dogs because they are evil workers'. Now kuon, a dog or evil worker is the Masonic cowan. The above priests or metaphorical dogs were also called circyonians or cer-cowans because they were lawless in their behaviour towards strangers."

The relation between the terms is clear, as shall be demonstrated in synchromystic fashion here, of the Druids, cohen, cowan, the Gaelic kirwan (stonemason) , the Céile Dé (those who preserve the fire and practise the 'black art'), have all been synonymous with the titles of prince, king, priest, (black) smith, and mason. From the above quoted article:

Whether the linguistic root of colquhoun is Old Norse (coill) or Irish (cuil, cul), we notice a common meaning: if coill refers to black wood or coal, the Scottish Gaelic roots cal, cul, or ceil implied something that protected, turned, or burned, often in association with fire, as in cuil-hil, turning wheel or cul-mhaire, wheelwright, cal, cail, ceill, to burn, also applied metaphorically in the Irish to the passions, ceili, ceill, cill, a round or fire tower, i.e. a place of devotion where the sacred fire always burned, cuilteach, a steeple, a fire house, ceil de, a preserver of the fires, i.e. a culdee, caileach, heat or passion of the mind; cal, lime, i.e. burnt stone( as in Calchou and Calchvynyd, the ancient names of Kelso), and calcam, to burn into lime; and culag, fuel, turf, peat. Thus we are inclined to think that Colquhoun originally designated a sacred narrow corner, which was guarded by black metaphorical "dogs", perhaps priests who practiced the "black art", making coal or working as blacksmiths.

Well, there's a lot to respond to here.  First, I will say as one of the few words of Gaelic origin to be adopted into English, like "shamrock" or "whiskey", "culdee" is an interesting word. (I am half-Irish -- my mother's family were Americans and Canadians of Irish origin.)

I don't know much about the Masons (or their "cowans")or their relation to the druids, but I think the term really referred to monastic keepers of the Ionan (Celtic Church) tradition that survived for a while,as they were gradually nudged out by a Church more in conformity with the Roman Church and clergy more amenable to the Anglo-Saxons, and Morman conquerors (viz. David I of Scotland)

Now "cohen" is etymologically related to a word in the Middle East that referred to shamans, and a cognate in Arabic still refers to the pre-Islamic shamans of the Arab tribes.  So, is there a connection between "cohens" and the Druids, yes, absolutely I believe as the Druids were likely keepers of much older Shamanistic traditions, though not necessarily "shamans" themselves, they performed many of the same divinatory and mediatory functions.

So, I think you're not far off the mark.

So then you are saying in your opinion it is possible that Knight/ Knecht etc. is derived from cain, since they would both mean servant in some way or another. It is also interesting how this con-nects (k-necht) Kuon with priest. A dog is a cain-ine. Kuon sounds an awful lot like cion or sion, zion? No you can't go for that, no can do? Also you brought up something cool earlier- Knight/ Ritter. There was a news service with that name at one point in case you did not know.

You are playing pretty fast and lose with etymologies here.  So, let's see.  No, I don't think "knight" is descended from "cain", or "cohen" ("qahin", "Coen"/"Koen") etc. Nor do I think the ancient Hebrews would have named their sacred priestly class or their sacred mountain after unclean animals, and you would have to explain how, and why the various morphological changes came about, which you haven't done so far.

Actually, the firm is called Knight/Ridder, I believe, but Ridder is cognate with "rider"/"Rittter"/"Riter"/"Ryder" etc.

It is cognate with "raider" as well.

It would probably bear looking in to the origins of this firm.  One of the two major papers in my hometown, Detroit, was owned by this conglomerate before they merged under the DNA, Detroit News Agreement.

Now all Detroit gets is McNews a few days a week.  Fishwrap.

"Ridder" is the Dutch version.  A one Ridder owned a newspaper, originally German language that was bought out by Knight among many others, hence the name.  The firm was bought out by McClatchy papers four years ago for 6.5 billion USD.

It was the second largest publisher of newspapers in the U.S. at the time.

Except a "cowan" stood for the unitiated who was not allowed in the lodges, not the priest, the initiated.  That doesn't seem to make any sense.  I am not a Mason and I have no idea of the origin of that word, but I find it's derivation from "Cohen" unlikely.

Cowan -- from ku-un (Egyptian)?  'ku' is a person/stranger and 'un' a person that opens a door.

The problem I'm finding with this guy is that he seems to derive every theorem from mystical axioms, which he claims are self-evident from the Desdemona alphabet.

This is what has me spinning also.  I know what he is alluding to, but can't figure out exactly what the meanings are, regarding interpretation of this "Desdemona" code.  What he said about coming up to the farm to learn it - I anticipated that.  Maybe at sometime I can get up there, but cannot now.

Besides the symmetry, and forming the key with A & B, he says that each character is a pictograph, and has it's own meaning, phonetic value and numerical value.  These evidently constitutes some kind of cipher.

I'll repost some of his Desdemona code related posts.

Fatima-Phoenicians

Each letter of the alphabet is a Philosophers Stone.

The shape-shifted lowercase "S" of the Desdemona typeface is the Holy Grail / Graal (the pictogram is a symbol of the uterus implant designed for a male hermaphrodite).

Note the "PH" link between alPHabet, PHilosoPHer, HermaPHrodite, PHarmacist, ShePHerd. Then, you will overstand the importance of "HP"; Hewlett Packard who let the dogs out~!

Phoenicians are an admixture of Sea Peoples, ShePHerd Kings and Canaanites. Before moving on to Carthage they gave up Canaan to the Hittite/Hebrews, who are otherwise known as the Hycsos and were being evicted from Egypt. Before settling down in Canaan the Hebrews were given a 40 year refresher course on what was expected of them, by the Horites (God - Top Dog Priests), at Mount Sinai.

Fat-ima = Fat I am = Phat/Ptah (God of Zoro-Astrian/Zoro-Babel Freemasonry)
as in Top Hat or Frigian Tuqes, etc.

Don't just understand English ....the world's Universal Language.

In order to truly COMPREHEND IT, one must first OVERSTAND IT.

To overstand how a language can be written and used as open source coding, one must comprehend that this coding will either be used to explain important past events which have already occurred, or again, evolving events which Persian Freemasons have long planned (prophesied) for our future; as part of their long-term NWO business plan to take over the world.

First, you must know that each character of the modern alphabet was designed in the Desdemona type face; each character to be decyphered as a pictograph that tells a much bigger story, and that each character was also given a phonetic value, as well as a secret, alpha and numeric value. Letters of the alphabet are Philosopher's Stones, the building blocks of words.

Here, the two main keys are "IRE" and "EAU".

IRE is the alphabet's symbol for FIRE (roll), while EAU (rock) is the alphabet's symbol for WATER (French). Together, as rock and roll, they represent fire and water, the two main pillars of Freemasonry; that Enoch says survived "the flood".

Later, we will learn how the letter "U" can also be a letter "J" (which itself, viewed as a pictograph, makes a big letter "U"). This pictograph is known as The Holy Graal.

Fire is linked to the name IRE~land. Once this is overstood, one will better comprehend why the Boston Diocese of the Catholic Church, Franciscan Fathers, the WTC and NY Port Authority; along with the Church of the Nativity and the Palestinian Authority, in Bethlehem, were linked to~get~her in 9/11, the Y2K event that launched the Persian destabilization plan for both, the American and Israeli societies.

One sample code, Browne's coding key to vowels, may be found in many encyclopedias of American Freemasonry.

This exercise may be too difficult for most of you, but hey, you've got to start somewhere. If nothing else it confirms that Persian Freemasonry does in fact use codes to communicate secretly, and that, contrary to what Freemasonry's Talking Mule apologists would have you believe.

UNLOCKING BROWNE's MASONIC CODE

Decoded message : written as keys to the code:

Pleaset oass istm e in open ingth elodge.

It is also important to realize that, since the days of the Tower of Babel (allegory), each of the world's 6000 languages was rewritten, or converted along the way, by the Egyptian priests of Heliopolis, then by the Phoenicians, and since 1492, by the French/German Basque Priest~Hoods; each translation being based on Horite~Persian Freemasonry's original standards (HP).

This fact alone, being the basis of all philology, leaves no doubt that ancient Zoro-Astrian/Zoro-Babel tax collecting priests of Persia are behind the 8000 year old conspiracy that supports international war, terrorism, free trade, national politics, organized religion, organized crime, international banking/monetary policy and secret societies.

TWO SIDES ON BOTH SIDES OF EVERY STORY

Check out the KEY at http://www.kealey.net/. Notice how each part of the key is made up of 4 letters A, and 4 letters B, taken from the Desdemona Type Face.

Desdemona is the name of the woman who is unjustly murdered by Othello, her husband, at the instigation of IAGO (James, Diego, Jacques, Jim), the sly villain of Shakespeare's play. IAGO is an allegorical name for Persian Freemasons of the 55th degree, or higher.

LETTERS ARE THE PHILOSOPHERS STONES~!

Yet, to the novice, letters are just ....characters in the alphabet.

However, Zoro-Astrian Freemasons know differently, since they fabricated the shape of these "letters". The letters of the alphabet are in fact characters in a play called life. Shakespeare alluded to this when he wrote "The whole world's a stage".

Letters are first and foremost "hieroglyphics". These western hieroglyphics were designed to represent the eastern heiroglyphics of the languages that preceded them, in both Egypt and Babylon, especially those of the original Horite language. Each character is convertible to a numerical and phonetic standard value. The standard is the Desdemona type face which was only brought to America, by eastern Europeans, in the 1880's. It is in this manner that every single language that has ever been written can be easily converted and understood by the priests of Zoro-Astrian Freemasonry. In this way ancient messages can be passed on over time through a method called "open source coding".

Each new language requires that at least two sources be utilized to verify the true meaning of each character. In modern English those two sources are the King James version of the Bible and William Shakespeare's plays. Both are linked to Francis Bacon who, in the 1600's, wrote "Advancements in Learning" and "The New Atlantis". He spoke of an "Invisible College" that would educate "chosen and accepted people"; a secret college which also would collect and archive the unpublicized findings of much "secret research".

Such is the role of modern western Freemasonry.

The rub is that the Priests of eastern Zoro-Astrian Freemasonry never did share their ultimate goals with their western brothers. This is their most precious secret as, primarily, it involves a "War on Women" which, if it were widely known, might not go over too well in the West.

Contrary to most people's comprehension, all languages stem from a common root. Every language is in reality at least four languages in one. First, there is the cosmetic version which is taught to "the slave who does his/her own shopping". Then, there is a secret, standard Kabalarian numerical conversion possible with all languages. It is taught to second level "cats"; on a need-to-know basis. This is the first of the three levels of secret coding contained within the language. Likewise, the third conversion (the second level of coding) relies on a standard of phonetic change, to allow for a phonetic conversion to a standard, or original meaning. Again, this is only taught to third level "dogs"; on a need-to-know basis. Finally, there is the language of the Picts, (they were predecessors to the Scots), which is drawn in the form of pictographs.

These picts are assembled by using the basic Desdemona (destroy the demon woman) type face and are known only to Masonry's "top dogs"; people such as Henry Kissinger and Zbignew Brezinsky (sic?); who, prior to 9/11, secretly directed the activities of all "national" militaries worldwide, ie: "GOD IS ON YOUR SIDE".

When decoding the English language, through this consecutive/concurrent use of the above described methods of conversion, the answers one then gets will lead one to a new appreciation of the minute detail by which the modern English language was finally assembled under the guidance of Francis Bacon and many other "priests" of Scottish Protestantism. Mind you, in reality, they were all guided by their Franciscan/Jesuit sponsors in France; and ultimately, by their Christian-Sufi-Zoroastrian-Masonic connections to the Orient.

Love, to the Zoroastrian Freemason priests who control your life, through the Media, organised religion, schools and entertainment, is all U need.

Phonetically your controllers are known as "U" among themselves. To them, "U" means your "unknown" superiors. You, on the other hand might think that it means "you". When they sing "All U need is love" what you hear instead is "All you need is love".

Also, the word Love, to "U", is a potato shaped asteroid called EROS, in the orbit of Mars. If your controllers ever had succeeded in implementing their "Ultimate Plan", they would have diverted Eros from its present orbit and sent it crashing into earth. The resulting "earth-crust displacement" would destroy life as we know it on the surface of the planet. It would not however have any effect whatsoever on life in the basalt region underground where your controllers have taken refuge.

Your controllers "U", also have a secret plan to replace today's two existing genders with a new unisex gender called the Hermaphrodite. This is also why they created The Beatles, if only for them to publicize the song "All you need is love"; as when we repeat this phrase over and over again we are in fact willing their will. If Eros did hit the Earth, it is expected that two thirds of the world's population would be killed.

Finally, I want to take this opportunity to once again apologize for my own limited ability in the use of the English language, especially to those with higher education who expect better. Yet, I must also remind everyone that, reportedly, when God himself was inspiring the writing of Bible texts he, neither, was not that good at Greek.

The important thing is to try to communicate with others in the best way one can.

WHAT IS MASONRY ?

Masonry is a system of ethics and religion in which there is some truth, though eviscerated and mutilated ; and moral precepts, which in their negative limited exoteric form, appear beyond criticism. It is a system held and defended by many men ; men of learning, of wealth, of social influence ; men of strong and magnetic personality ; men of kindly and progressive liberal tendencies ; men who have piety in their peculiar religious consciousness ; men who have taste for the artistic, the beautiful, the sublime ; men who in the eyes of the world, of their fellow-man, are gods of power and graciousness, men who none-the-less, knowingly or unknowingly, support progressive movement towards a UN centrally controlled "New World Order".

And yet this system is capable without in the least straining a single principle, of the vilest and most dastardly acts which any man can do to his fellow-man ; acts of treachery and of advantage taken over innocence, guilelessness and reposed confidence such as the annals of humanity can scarcely surpass ; who, when supported and promoted by the other control mechanisms we know as politics, free-trade, organized religion and the military-industrial-complex, the vast combined system covers for each other. Not only can they do this, but Freemasonry, by its spirit and principles, fosters it, and it does it. And when criminal or immoral acts are committed by its adherents, when convenient, the system shields its pedophile perpetrators, and assures them that there is no wrong in them, though for reasons of convenience and expedience these acts must be kept secret.

These indulgences in which its adherents may engage are a pleasure which they especially may enjoy, but which must not be spoken of, a thing never to regret, but ever to conceal; THE ONLY WRONG IN THEM IS IN BEING FOUND OUT. The value of its "secrets" lies in this. Thus, at one strike it ravishes virtue, destroys all belief in virtue, and denies all need of repentance and reformation. And the palpable object of all this is not that its adherents believe in this strange system of ethics, for that would seem impossible for rational and moral beings to do, but simply to avert the consequences which would prevent them from continuing their criminal or immoral deeds. No system can be more "devilish" and no character more hateful and "diabolical" than that fostered by such principles. "Tell them what they want to hear and do what we tell you to do" ethics are subversive of all true morality, virtue, veracity and spirituality. They make the wrong, the crime or immorality, consist only of being found out. This so-called logic is but an illusion that permits Freemasons to temporarily escape from reality.

The institution standing for and protecting this "step-by-step" system of immoral ethics may stand high and beautiful in the eyes of men, but, in it are secret chambers giving license to the passions in which human souls are ruined and virtue stabbed. Freemasonry is a sophisticated "gang" of organised criminal "hypocrites" who plead that you should not judge their behavior, but ask that you endure its consequenses.

In order for our world to survive, we must first save ourselves and loved ones from Zoro-Astrian / Zoro-Babel Freemasonry and their SYSTEM, and continue to expect that, later, all the genius, kindliness, hypocrisy and secrecy that this world-wide Freemasonic system contains shall not prevail before the ultimate power of Creation.

"Freemasonry is a SYSTEM of MORALITY veiled in ALLEGORY and illustrated by SYMBOLS".

"Morality is that instinctive sense of right and wrong that tells some people how everyone else should behave."

One should not be surprised to find Sexual Predators in Organized Religion, anymore than one would be surprised to find thieves in Organized Crime, untruths spoken in Politics, Control Freaks on the Internet, or, Character Assassins in the National Media; as within the current Masonic Cultural SYSTEM ...that is their JOB.

Explain it in as few words as possible.

Start by acquiring copies of Freemasonry's secret Encyclopedias. Read them through and through. Eventually you will catch on to their "pattern" of speech and symbols. Then, read the Bible, not to believe what it says on the surface, but rather, from the lessons you've learned in decoding using Freemasonry's Encyclopedias. Now, repeat the same thing, this time using Shakespeares plays. He, and Heroditus, were the original Haks (er) who scrambled your teacher's brain. The next thing to do is to go to your computer and look up the Desdemona type face. Make one copy of each character on paper and one on a transparency. Invert the transparency onto its own character on paper and note the new images/pictograms that appear. The alphabet tells a story of how one creates a Hermaphrodite, a Superman.

Desdemona is a female character in Shakespeare's play Othello. It's a play about spousal abuse that leads to her murder. The word Desdemona translates in Mason phonetic codes into "destroy the demon female." The Desdemona type font is a "Art Nouveau" style and was imported during a period from 1880 to 1919, during the second wave of eastern European immigration to the USA and became revived in digital form in the 60's.

The Masonic allegory is an Arc as in Antarctica. It's the symbolism for DNA and genetic engineering.

You should also seek out who were the actual troglodytes who modelled for the "Aliens" in SS's Close Encounters of a Third Kind and AI. SS knows what's coming. Most Masons don't know, as there is a "Need to Know Basis" (55/70 degrees) classification that shuts out most Masons from knowing (overstanding) Ultimate Reality. Others are just used and then discarded.

It took me fifteen years to figure this coding out without any help. Now, you should be able to do it in half the time it took me. Then, someone else will contact you and ask you how to do it in an hour. Good luck.

It took me fifteen years to figure this coding out without any help. Now, you should be able to do it in half the time it took me. Then, someone else will contact you and ask you how to do it in an hour. Good luck.

That's what I did initially! No wonder I got the replies I did.
So if encyclopedias of Freemasonry are the answer, here's one: http://www.phoenixmasonry.org/mackeys_encyclopedia/index.htm
Here's your Bacon: http://shakespeare.mit.edu/

That only leaves five and a half years now, I guess I'd better get cracking.

I suppose the best way to do this is to take it one letter at a time.  So, let's consider the first two in order: the "A" and "B" of our "alphabet".

Starting with "A", the Freemasonic Encyclopedia he quoted is absolutely right, the "A" is descended from the heiroglyph (most of the alphabet's origins are Egyptian rather than Sumerian) for an ox.  It become the Semitic "alif" or "alef/aleph" cognate with the Greek "alpha".  In Egypt it is the "aps".  (Related to the "Apis" bull?)

In Cabala,"aleph" is G-D, infinity, the source, the limitless, the "ain soph". It is power.

"B" is the Egyprian Heiroglyyphic for house, per. In Semitic it becomes "bet/beth", or house.  It is cognate with the Greek "beta'. A house is a container, if you will, as the body is the container of the soul ("the temple of the soul/G-D").

So, taken together, our "alphabet" is a "power-house", if you will.

(There is a story of two rabbis who are discussing the Torah from a a second-story room looking out at a child in the street reciting his alphabet.  The first rabbi says, "Look, he is so young but he is praying."  The second says, "No, he is only reciting the alphabet."  The first rabbi says, "Yes, but he sends the letters up to God.  God then puts the prayer together.")

"The holy spirit is praying continuously in the heart of the atheist."
                                    Blaise Pascal

Absolutely, our alphabet is a powerhouse, properly perceived.

"C" is the return to the source.  It is the gimel the throwing stick or sling.  It was a weapon uised by the elite, the Pharaoh (there is that per again, house, at the beginning of "Pharaoh") and the aristocrats/nobles to hunt birds.  It is thrown and then return to the owner, to the earth -- somewhat like a boomerang (a related hunting weapon).  It is cognate with the Greek "gamma" -- before the middle ages, "C" signified "C" and "G".  The modern "G" is a product of the Middle Ages, so if there is any great significance to "G" in Freemasonry, they can thank the medievals (and not the ancients).

In Cabalah, it is the rich man running after the poor man, Dalet ("D") to reward him (or punish as the case may be).  The soul returning to its source in G-D.

(No, I am not a Mason.  Much western mysticism borrowed from Cabalah which preserved much of this ancient wisdom, much as the Arabs maintained classical learning from ancient Greece while the West slept.  Cabalah I have studied for some time, before I was even supposed to, and long before it was cool.  I have no idea what the red threads are about, though. I'll leave such things to the dilettantes.)

ABC (1,2,3)

Source, Container, Return

Fundamental scema of existence. The "ABC's" of existence.

This mysticism did not necessarily originate with the Hebrews, but instead may have its origin in the Hellenistic syncretism of Greek learning and Jewish culture.

"Thou art.  Know thyself."  Inscribed on the temple at Delphi.

"Thou" is at once the god within the temple (the god's house) and the self.

"Thou art" is actually the "H" (another story for another day).  It was pronounced "ay" though and is sometimes symbolized by the lower case "e" in English. It was the fifth letter in Greek and so symbolized "5" as well.

Know thyself.  Gnothi seauton.  Temet nosce.

These were two of the three saying along with "Everything in moderation" ("Meden Agan") that were inscribed above the chief oracle of the Greeks.

I'll leave "Dalet" (four) "death" for another day as well.

DEF -- in hip-hop a superlative

4,5,6...

OK, now I'm ready to deal with "D".  It is not in Kabbalah or Egyptian culture for that matter a symbol of life.  Far from it.  It generally represents death, evil and destruction.

It is a door in heiroglyphics.  Greek "Delta". Egyprian "dalt".  Semitic "daleth/dalet".

The Israelites paint blood over the lintels of their doors, so the angel of death will pass by in Exodus.  The door is a place where evil can enter the house.

(Interestingly enough in South Korea where I live four (sa) is very unlucky as it sounds like the world for death.  Dice have four painted in a different color -- to cut the bad luck of the number.)

"E", on the other had is symbolized in heiroglyphics by a man with arms upraised praying.  It is "he" (pronounced like "hay").    It symbolizes jubilation (joy).

"F" is a mace or club -- another weapon.

G -- the Freemason's favorite letter

Here a correction is due.  "G" was invented in 230 B.C. by a freedman (former slave) the founder of the first pay-for-fee type school (before that the pedagogue was generally a servant or slave, literally "child-slave".  His name was Spurius Carvilius Ruga, former slave of Spurius Carvilius Maximus Ruga, consul.  Before this time the name "Gaius", for instance would have been spelled "Caius" in Roman orthography.

This was the Old Latin Period, not medieval Latin period as claimed earlier.  Before this time "C", which had come to replace the Greek "K" (as in Celtus/Keltoi) doubledd as the "gamma" or "g" sound.

It, therefore, does not have an independent history prior to that time.

"H" is the cross-hatching of a fence in heiroglyphics.  It is the Greek "Eta".  Semitic "het".  In Hiberno-Engliish, it is the "haitch".  In English, of course, "aitch".

"I" the all-important "I" / "eYe".  Originally a "j" sound in Egyptian, it was represented by a horizontal arm and hand.  It becomes the "Y" consonant sound "I"/"Y"/"Iota"/"Yod/Yodh", and later af the Great English vowel shift, our familiar "short i" sound as in "bill" and long "I" sound as in "eye" or "aye".

"Yod" is a phallic symbol as is "I".  It therfore represents "man", virility, and fertility -- generation.

Added to "hevah" or "Eve" (woman) the Yod gives us Yod-Heh-Vau-Heh (YHVH) a symbol of adnrogeny, like Elohim wiht its masculine plural of a feminine singluar noun ("Eloah" -- cognate of "Allah").  "Eloah" is high one.  "Elohim" -- the high ones, like th high gods of Sumeria/Babylon.

So, there's the first nine of our letters, and having reached the naughty nine, I think it is time for another break in the story.

J is not distinct until Middle High German.  It is really a form of I/Y, the "Yot/Yod"

K, the Greek "Kappa" (Semitic "Kap") derives from a heiroglyph of an open hand, which originally signified a "d" sound as in d-r-t, Egyptian for hand.

L, the Greek "Lambda", derives form the crook or goad -- an important symbol as it is one of the two signs of royalty the Pharaoh is usually represented (along with a flail) "in state" as on sarcophagi.  The Greeks (Spartans) painted Lambdas on their shields. Pheonician "Lamedh".  Semitic "Lamd".

To recap, therefore, so far:

Letter(s)    Origin of Heiroglyph                           Posssible Symbolism/Secondary Significance

A          ox                                                        power
B          house                                                   container
C/G       throwing stick                                        reward/punishment/return
D          door
E          man with arms upraised praying/jubilation
F          mace or club
H          fence/cross-hatching
I/Y/J     arm and hand horizontal (phallic)              generation, fertility
K          open hand
L          crook or goad                                         symbol of royalty/protection?
