SAN DIEGO—A suspected pipe bomb exploded at the federal courthouse in downtown San Diego early Sunday, damaging a door and blowing out a window, authorities said.
The loud blast occurred at about 1:40 a.m. at the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Courthouse, FBI spokeswoman April Langwell. The device caused damage to the front entrance and lobby area of the courthouse, she said.

Streets in the area have been closed.

No injuries were reported. The explosion is under investigation and no arrests have been made.

An explosion early this morning at the Federal Courthouse in San Diego may be the work of a serial bomber who in April set off bombs at a Federal Express facility in the city, law enforcement officials said.



According to authorities, it appears the explosive device was inside a backpack. The bomber placed the device at the doors to the Edward J. Schwartz United States Courthouse, lit the fuse and fled, officials said.

The device was described by authorities as made of three galvanized pipe bombs, measuring 1-by-10 inches and two 3-by-8 inch explosives. The method of attack was similar to the April 25, 2008, explosion at a FedEx facility in San Diego. That bombing occurred at about 2 a.m. This one was set off at 1:40 a.m., according to an FBI press statement.

The attacks do not appear linked to any of the early-morning blasts that have plagued New York City in recent months. In those instances, the explosives were made from military casings -- ammo boxes and grenades -- filled with black powder. They also were triggered by lighting a fuse. The New York bomber was seen leaving on a bike.

According to the FBI, the explosion in San Diego shattered a glass door, damaged the lobby and punched a hole in a building window across the street. No one was reported injured.

Yeah I agree with the peaceful methods first.  Once we all start dying, that's when we break out the erm....uh...pipe bombs?  You can actually make an easy pressure bomb by taking a pipe, threading both ends, placing a threaded cap on both ends, soddering it, and before the last cap place a baby food jar full of vinegar in the pipe, surround with baking soda, close, sodder, throw at something...

You can delete this actually.  It's not exactly cool to post how this stuff is done however it is just simple chem and physics.

I agree however that this sounds more Bushish in nature but then again many people get f**ked by the long dick of the law so it could be that also.

Maybe this is one of their plans to beef up security in order for martial law to start rolling?

I searched on google for FEDEX bomb, and this was the first on the list.

Although it is from April 25th. and it is in San Diego.

Well, evidently, they knew nothing about making explosives.

This was more than likely a low explosive, like gunpowder or black powder substitute bought at walmart.

A real high explosive device would have taken out more than a glass window.

I could have done better with a gallon of gasoline, an old milk jug, some white paint, and a pipe with some match heads in it. 70 foot tall fireball, blowing the front of the building out.
