Gun Control Laws
By Emma Schwartz
Posted March 6, 2008

1791
The Second Amendment is ratified.

1934
The National Firearms Act imposes a tax on the sale and transfer of machine guns and short-barrel firearms, including sawed-off shotguns. Passed just after Prohibition's repeal, it follows widespread outrage over gangsters like John Dillinger and Al Capone.

The Federal Firearms Act requires federal licensing of gun dealers.

1968
The Gun Control Act, following the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr., expands licensing and record-keeping requirements. It prohibits felons and the mentally ill from buying guns and bans the sale of mail-order firearms, including rifles and shotguns.

1972
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms is created to oversee the regulation of gun sales.

1986
The Firearms Owners Protection Act eases some gun sale restrictions and bars the government from creating a database of gun dealer records. The law, which also authorizes sales of guns between private owners, reflects the growing influence of the National Rifle Association and a strongly pro-gun Reagan administration.

1993
The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, named for the press secretary disabled by the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan in 1981, requires gun dealers—although not private sellers—to run background checks on purchasers and authorizes the creation of a national database.

1994
The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, passed by a Democratic Congress, bans the sale of new assault weapons for 10 years.

2003
The Tiahrt Amendment prohibits the disclosure of trace data about guns used in crimes. Following a wave of lawsuits against gun dealers, Congress also protects gun manufacturers and dealers from lawsuits if their guns are used in crimes.

2004
The assault weapons ban expires under a Republican-controlled Congress.

2007
After the massacre at Virginia Tech, Congress closes a loophole in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System by requiring states to automate lists of people prohibited from buying firearms, including felons and the mentally ill, and put them in the federal database.

Louisiana House to Consider “Assault Weapon’s” Ban and Ballistic “Fingerprinting” Bills!

Tuesday, April 08, 2008

Please Make Your Voice Heard Today!

The Louisiana Legislature convened in late March for its 2008 Regular Session.  Several anti-gun bills have been introduced and referred to the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee.

State Representative Cedric Richmond (D-New Orleans) has once again introduced a ban on semi-automatic firearms, this time it is House Bill 68.  Although he has dubbed this bill the "Assault Weapons Protection Act", make no mistake - it "protects" nothing and bans guns, subjecting people who own banned guns to fines and imprisonment - with hard labor - for up to two years.

HB 68 would ban pump-actions as well as semi-automatics, and millions more firearms than the Clinton "assault weapons" ban of 1994-2004.  His definition of "assault weapon" would include numerous autoloading and pump-action deer rifles, autoloading .22 rimfire rifles, some 19th century pistols, as well as many firearms with a "military-style appearance" used for self-defense, target shooting and hunting.  He even preposterously makes the claim that these firearms are "equally as dangerous as machine guns and explosive devices."  The bill goes on to ban firearm parts such as muzzle brakes, ported pistol barrels, and other commonplace firearm accessories, calling them "assault weapons conversion kits."  Here is a list of just a few guns that his bill would ban:

Center Fire Rifles: Benelli R1; Browning BAR, Mark II Safari autoloaders, Browning Pump Rifle; Colt, Armalite, Les Baer, etc. Match Rifles; DSA Model SA58; Fabrique Nationale FAL; Harrington and Richardson Models 340, 360; H&K 770, 2000, SL6, SR9, 300, 630, 91, 93; Marlin Camp Carbine, Model 992; Mitchell Model LW-9; M-1 Carbine, all makes and models; Reising Model 60; Remington 7400, 740, 74, 4, 8 semi-autos; Remington Model 7600, 760 pump-actions; Ruger Deerfield, Mini-14, Ranch Rifle, Mini-30; Springfield M1A, Match, Super Match, SAR-48, SAR-4800, SAR-8; Valmet Hunter; Winchester Models 100, 1905, 1907, 1910; .22 Rimfire Rifles AMT Hunter; Anschutz Model 525 Deluxe; Armscorp Model 20C; AR-7 Explorer and Henry U.S.; Beretta Neos; Browning Buckmark; Charles Daly Field Grade, Superior Grade; CZ Model 511, 611; Daisy Models 2203, 2213; Harrington and Richardson Model 700; Ithaca X5-C, X15; Iver Johnson Trailblazer; Mauser Model 105; Mossberg Models 152, 350, 352; Reising Leatherneck; Remington Models 597, Nylon 77, 522; Ruger 10/22; Savage Models 64, 7, 1903, 1909; Marlin Models 522, 7000, 795, 795SS, 70; Thompson/Center Classic Benchmark; Weatherby Mark XXII; Winchester Models 77, 490.

Think this can't happen in Louisiana?  Who would've believed that the New Orleans Police Department and other first responders to Hurricane Katrina would confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens when they needed them the most?  New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin (D) is on record, after a series of meetings with members of the New Orleans legislative delegation last week, as making this ban on so-called "assault weapons" - a ban on YOUR lawfully-owned firearms - a priority of his administration during this current legislative session.  He has been quoted as saying he will work with the National Rifle Association to craft a "workable compromise."  Rest assured, there will be NO compromise on your rights, whether you live in New Orleans or not.

Still think this can't happen in Louisiana?  Mayor Nagin managed to get re-elected in spite of his and his cronies' flagrant disregard for hurricane victims' Second Amendment rights, not to mention his gross mismanagement of the disaster and subsequent bizarre comments over the past two years about the state of his own city.  Stranger things could - and have - happened in the Sportsman's Paradise!

That's why we need you to take action immediately.  HB 68 has been referred to the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee.  Many of the committee members are newly elected because of term-limits, and they have not had the opportunity to become "worn out" by State Representative Richmond's repeatedly unsuccessful attempts to infringe upon your rights.  Which is why it is crucial that you make your opposition heard!

Another measure that attacks your Second Amendment rights in Louisiana, House Bill 75 by State Representative Austin Badon (D-New Orleans), an NRA-opposed "ballistic fingerprinting" bill that would require all handguns to be test-fired, prior to sale in Louisiana, for entry into a law-enforcement database.  Ostensibly, the markings left on the bullet and cartridge case would aid law-enforcement in solving crimes.  New York and Maryland - the only two states to adopt such legislation - have seen the systems become crime-solving failures and the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division called for scrapping its system entirely.  More recently the National Academy of Sciences released a report that concluded, “that a national reference database of ballistic images should not be established” because, among other things, “[T]he validity of the fundamental assumptions of uniqueness and reproducibility of firearms-related toolmarks has not yet been fully established.”  In the past, State Representative Badon has been inclined to pursue true crime control measures supported by NRA.  Please contact State Representative Badon at the Baton Rouge at (225) 342-6945 and politely urge him to reconsider pursuing this ineffective solution to New Orleans' crime problem.

Please also contact the members of the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee, listed below, where both HB 68 and HB 75 have been referred, and urge them to OPPOSE these egregious measures.  Make your call TODAY and pass the word along to your family, friends and fellow gun owners!

I do not know anyone that has been assaulted by a rifle..  It depends on how you define  "assault Rifle",  You can now get a felony for shooting a BB gun at someone.  I want to believe so much that  what is happening to our country is a  BAD DREAM  and I will wake up and all politicians  will be honest god fearing people..

In truth any item that one uses to harm another is an assault weapon.

Soon, when the economy collapses it will be but a short time before all firearms are made illegal. One has but to look across the big pond and see an example of bureaucratise fear gone amok. It is my understanding that there is now legislation to register all knives, even those in use of kitchen work.

Notice that most of anti-citizens keeping and bearing legislation was percitipated by government false flag events.

Prohibition (created the illegal trade market and gave rise to mob)

Assassinations all done by dark forces in the government

Massacre of Virgina Tech like other school shootings where student is taking SSRIs and/or under some form of mind control.

None...

If you consider that by definition an assault rifle is an MBR... Main Battle Rifle... as carried by the military. These weapons have the full automatic component at the flick of a lever...

The rifles that are available to the general public do not contain this full automatic component... therefore they are merely semi-automatic rifles...

A campaign must be started, to initiate a petition against all legislators who violate their oath of office by initiating or sponsoring legislation that violates their Constitutional oath... Bills that would infringe on the Second Amendment if passed, would in fact violate the legislators Constitutional oath, as much as if they pass a law abridging the freedom of speech.

It's time we use the most wholesome laws that the founding fathers gave us, to stop the foreign infiltrators and provocateurs within, namely the legislative destroyers of our Constitution. A Phone and e-mail campaign to the offices of legislators who sign on to these bills, would go a long way toward shutting them down... You must have your talking points in order however, like primarily, by supporting a law infringing upon the people's right to keep and bear arms, without infringement... is a violation of their Constitutional oath to uphold and defend the Constitution... pure and simple!
