Convention on the Law of the Sea— This treaty creates an International Seabed Authority which will control 75% of the earth's surface, including the authority to impose direct taxes on natural resources such as oil pumped from the floor of the ocean. This is to be one of the greatest sources of income to the World Government, where no national government may intervene, none may claim it hurts them, since it taxes oil and other resources not within in any national border, and it eliminates the need for the United Nations to come and beg from its Member States to pay annual assessments and dues. Each consumer will pay the tax, imbedded in the price of each gallon of gasoline, for instance, at the pump.
The official UN page, where they say, "The Oceans are the very foundation of human life." And they want to govern it. Own it. Rule it. Make sure that no single nation or company exploits it and gets the profits, when they could be getting the profits. This is the single highest potential for income the United Nations can tap, because the wealth of the ocean waters and the minerals beneath it will then belong to them. This will make the UN independent of US taxpayers (which is the only thing that keeps them civil to us at all). Today, the USA does have more influence over the UN than any other single nation -- and why not? We pay more of the bills! You pay the piper, you call the tune. This new proposed treaty sets up a Charter (as in "constitution") to grant power to the UN to rule the seas with the same traditional kindness, efficiency and honesty that we have come to expect from them, from the Congo to the Iraq "Oil for Food" debacle.
