3 officers dead after shooting near BRPD HQ

July 17, 2016 9:25 AM

BATON ROUGE - Police have closed streets between Baton Rouge Police Headquarters and I-12 where law enforcement officers have been shot.

Sources say two Baton Rouge Police officers and one East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office deputy are dead following the shooting. Another officer was critically injured.

A witness told WBRZ News 2, a man was dressed in black with his face covered shooting indiscriminately when he walked out between a convenience store and car wash across from Hammond Air Plaza.  Shots were fired around 9 a.m. Sunday.

A very large manhunt began immediately with officers hurrying to "contain" the scene.

Both lanes of Airline Highway were shut down from Goodwood to Old Hammond and from Old Hammond to Drusilla Drive. LA DOTD confirmed the closures were related to police presence in the area.

WAFB-TV reported officers were shot along Airline Highway near Old Hammond Highway, but didn’t specify the number of police.

Michael Vinsanau of WBRZ tweeted that more than a dozen marked and unmarked police cars have sped to the scene, and that a SWAT team is on location. State police armed with rifles are posted blocks away, Vinsanau tweeted.

... @THEWEEK:

Quote
Kip Holden, the mayor-president of East Baton Rouge Parish, said the "count is three officers dead possibly." Confirmation of the shooter's status is not yet available, but Holden mentioned reports that the gunman is "down as well," and Baton Rouge Police Cpl. L. J. McKneely said the scene is contained.

High strangeness; Yesterday the place name Baton Rouge popped into my head for seemingly no reason at all while having a 'Salty Dog'?

I said: "So I am having some of them Salty Dogs with gin & tonic and gin & grapefruit sprite with Kosher salt. Best drink in these ‘Baton Rouge’ weather conditions."

I was looking at the high humidity in Baton Rouge of 83% last night (Jul 16) which is the same at my end but at much lower temps.

Fact is we all are psychic a bit but many don’t know.

President Barack Obama has been briefed on the shooting, and the White House has been in contact with Baton Rouge officials at several points throughout the morning.

"I condemn, in the strongest sense of the word, the attack on law enforcement in Baton Rouge.  For the second time in two weeks, police officers who put their lives on the line for ours every day were doing their job when they were killed in a cowardly and reprehensible assault.  These are attacks on public servants, on the rule of law, and on civilized society, and they have to stop," said a statement from President Obama. "I’ve offered my full support, and the full support of the federal government, to Governor Edwards, Mayor Holden, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Baton Rouge Police Department.  And make no mistake – justice will be done."
Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole ; He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee. - Job 5

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards called the attack "unjustifiable" and asked for the nation to join him in praying for the victims.

"The violence, the hatred, just has to stop," Edwards said while addressing the press on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased suspect in the deadly shooting of Baton Rouge law enforcement officers appeared to have attacked police on his 29th birthday, CBS News has learned.

The suspect has been identified as a black male named Gavin Eugene Long of Kansas City, Missouri, sources tell CBS News. He was born on July 17, 1987.

One suspect was killed and two others might still be at large, Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, previously said. However, Louisiana state police said Sunday afternoon there is “no active shooter” in Baton Rouge.

It's not just Dallas or Baton Rouge — police officers
have been killed across the country

Erica Evans and Razzan Nakhlawi

When five police officers were killed and nine wounded in an attack during a protest march in Dallas on July 7, it rattled the nation.

Ten days later, three officers were killed and three injured in Baton Rouge, La., as they were responding to a call about a suspicious person with an assault rifle.

Between the two attacks, law enforcement officers from Georgia to Michigan were shot in incidents that drew far less attention but have added to the growing sense that it’s a dangerous time to be a cop.

With the Dallas shootings, 31 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty so far this year, compared with 18 officers who had died at this point in 2015, according the statistics from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

I'm sorry; I am have a hard time giving a shit about cops getting shot and killed: yea I know the idiots that do this stuff are motivated by evil and those that wish to destroy this country; but I still don't have an ounce pity for dead cops; you realize cops, kill, steal and destroy on a regular bases, not to mention they lie and cover up for evil cops always and I mean always.

What really got me today was the chief of Baton Rouge police whining and saying "how on earth did they become the bad guys" duh what an idiot, you lie, kill and have no accountability and in real trouble time the cops are the one stealing and not protecting the people, allowing guns to confiscated; that is how you are the bad guys, you f**king idiot.

Look I know what Alex says that this is being used to cause a civil war or social unrest, but the answer is for the cops to be accountable and if the cops are not going to be accountable then what's the use, screw it all and let it all burn.

This is starting to sound a lot like the Zebra black-on-white kill spree of the early 1970s.  Those were tied to the NOI too.

"When people talk about Zebra, it's usually as a serial killing. That may be technically true, but the most accurate description of what Zebra was is terrorism, plain and simple."

I'll take it a step further.

How about the people responsible for giving them a badge and gun? Those people KNOW what they are doing. They are the ones encouraging and sanctioning the current police behavior in the US.

I think THEY should be identified and called to account for THEIR actions.

People like Soetoro casually talk about this being a problem in the US. Yet he has been the one with the authority to turn things into what we now see. “We need a civilian force, just as trained and equipped as the military” Remember that?

Nobody wants Mad Max anarchy, having to constantly defend against lawless marauders. But they DO want accountability from people given authority. Without it, there is no justice for we the people, and faith in the system goes down the toilet.

I have to agree; those organizing the system accountability goes along with it; the fraternal order of police to name another cooperate group that has put together a system of so called laws to protect police from accountability and transparency; cops now could not do the right thing if they wanted too.
Police are quickly comprised so they have to go along with the corruption or quit; well guess what if you are a cop now days you are corrupt, it is systemic; yes I know cops can and do do good things, but that doesn't change the fact they are still unaccountable and corrupt.

The answer is to remove the laws the protect corruption and start to bring accountability; otherwise screw it the system isn't worth saving; let it all burn, which I don't wish to see but the alterative I can't live with either.

Black Lives Matter Supporters Celebrate
Baton Rouge Police Shootings On Twitter

CHARLIE NASH 17 Jul 2016

Dozens of Black Lives Matter and anti-police supporters, including an
editor for ThinkProgress have taken to Twitter after the murder
of three Baton Rouge police officers earlier today.

~~

“DJ Niyo Davinci,” a DJ and producer who claims to have worked with high-profile rappers
including Lil Wayne joked that he was “riding around Baton Rouge Wit A Big Pistol” and
said that it “feels good to see N***as knocking these pigs off.”

The problem is so much deeper than what people understand; it the whole police system of deceit; the lying, the cover-ups, the arrogances of the destruction of evidences, the laws that protect and hinder justice against prosecuting the police for the most obvious crimes against innocent people; and these are just some of the blatant offensives good people have to face and deal with when they encounter the police and most of all it the none accountability....... and the cops know it and accept it because it seems to benefit them and if any cop tries to stand against the corruption they are framed or worse.
So you see much more is involved with the problem and until accountability becomes part of the narrative nothing can be started to change the corruption and it's only going to get worse and worse. Either way big reversals of what has gradually and incrementally been infused into the legal system and mindset of people and the cops. I don't see any light at the end of this long tunnel so my hope for a peaceful outcome is very small; it may have to naturally come to a conclusion and it's probably not going to be pretty.

Real accountability is the key, there has to be real and I mean real accountability with transparency or nothing is going change for the better it will only will get worse and the police have to accept it and embrace and admit the problems or it's not going to work either: the police are in obvious denial!!!!!!! They think they are the good guys, image that?

THAT ACCOUNTABILITY NEEDS TO START WITH THE PRESIDENT. OBAMA HAS BEEN PUSHING A FALSE NARRATIVE, AN AGENDA, AND ENABLING BLM WHICH IS INFLAMING AND INCITING VIOLENCE! AND THE LAME MEDIA GOES RIGHT ALONG WITH THESE LIES. THEN YOU HAVE THE ISSUE OF OBAMA COWARDLY REFUSING TO ASSOCIATE "RADICAL ISLAMIC TERROR" WHICH IS ALSO AT THE HEART OF THESE ATTACKS IN AMERICA, AND WORLDWIDE!

UNTIL A REAL LEADER, A REAL MAN GETS INTO THE WHITE HOUSE, AND THE MEDIA STARTS SHOWING SOME INTEGRITY AND PROFESSIONALISM ON THESE ISSUES, INSTEAD OF SPEWING LIES, THIS INSANITY WILL CONTINUE!

A real man, and a Black American, Sheriff Clarke, recently took CNN's Don Lemon to the mat on his lies and ignorance. About time someone did so.

The system is broke, if you don't change the system then the people guarding the system won't change.

How about we start with decriminalization of certain things? We start treating drug abusers as medical patients. We spend the money on treatment centers instead of for profit private jails. Then we can stop the contact quota police have. I was just watching a video yesterday where an officer spoke out about this and he was fired. He said that the police force in his town was required to have a 100 contacts per month, 40 of those would be warnings, the other 60 would be spit between, traffic citations, non traffic citations, field inquires and custodial arrests. He said that was 72,000 contacts a year in a town of 50,000 people. Prison Planet indeed.

Good points!

When they turned police into revenue collectors, and then converted them into a POLICE STATE combining military and police training, they screwed up law enforcement, and the roles of police officers. Oh, now that the globalists have screwed this up, they will come back and say "Oh, but we have a fix for that". We will make a world police force and let the UN play a role! Problem, Reaction, Solution yet again!

These problems started in Washington, and now things are a total mess!  ::)

... even if all drugs were legalized, cops would still
have to patrol and try to protect the citizenry, and
the druggies from themselves. With even MORE drugged
out and violent people on the streets and in the schools
it would no doubt lead to much more street violence

Baton Rouge Shooter Was Nation of Islam Member (Until the police investigations start including this element, they will never figure out what is going on in America. How many shootings have to have this connection, and yet the police won't go there due to political correctness, or simply being told not to by the White House. Why don't you look at other countries who have legalized and actually find out what happens after legalization instead of reacting like that.

Comment about this from Reddit. It's obvious to me that this is beyond mere “revenue”. This is the use of money to control and shape human behavior. In this case, the behavior of police.

WHO is responsible for hiring/firing a police chief?

If money is the driving factor, then there is no rule of law.

Quote
The term "productivity" includes tickets, specifically those producing income for the City Corporation through fines. That is true for all traffic tickets, parking tickets, code-violations, warrants and other profitable arrests made.

Often overlooked: Rich and/or politically-connected people seldom get tickets. Reason: rich people have wherewithal (money) to fight tickets which makes court costs go up and therefore drives profit down. OR they have "inside" friends who can 'make adjustments.'

Parking tickets are slightly different. Officers will ticket any car, regardless of how expensive it is. So initially, there is no favor given to rich or politically connected people. However, traffic tickets are easy to fix. Any officer or chief or clerk can simply find the ticket's office-copy and destroy it. Any doctor with a doctor's plate can get any parking ticket fixed if he can document a medical emergency required him not wasting time looking for a spot. Any lawyer who knows any cop can get any ticket fixed. The cops most likely to do this are corrupt and know they may someday need legal counsel at a discount.

Source: my goddamned lawyers friends.

DUI arrests are particularly profitable for the City and the individual officer. Insurance companies pay large bonuses ($900+) directly to officers for each DUI arrest.

Reason: Insurance companies make many times more than that by raising rates over time. Essentially, they are bribing cops to over-enforce.

Cities make profit from the initial DUI arrest, like all other profitable arrests, but they also can enforce alcohol classes, alcohol intervention treatments and special services ( like breathalyzer installation on a person's private vehicle.) ALL of those cost money and the city gets a cut from each profit center along the chain.

One officer in our home town is particularly loved by the insurance companies, and especially loathed by his victims. In 2004 he made an extra $90,000 in one year from DUI busts alone.

Yes, you read that right... NINETY THOUSAND.

Luckily, he was caught several times falsifying evidence. He eventually lost his case and his job. He had amassed nearly a million dollars by 2014. His legal defense costs plus fines ate up substantially all of that and more.

Source: My friends on the force.

All of this is kept out of the newspapers because it tarnishes the department's reputation. The trials are private "internal affairs hearings" so no public or reporters can attend.

Insurance companies have plenty of money and influence too, so they can squelch stories about how they bribe officers to over-enforce DUIs.

Sheriffs, on the other hand, are elected rather than appointed. They have constituents. (we the people)

Although this doesn't entirely eliminate corrupt behavior, I see it as an overall better, more accountable system of law enforcement.
The number one cause of all human poverty, misery, and death is not global warming. It’s GLOBAL LYING.

... Cosmo Setepenra aka Gavin Eugene Long
wrote a couple self-published books ...
:o

" ... because they have more melanin —
black people are superior to whites."

Baton Rouge Shooter Claimed Blacks
'Superior To Whites’ In Book

PETER HASSON - 10:00 AM 07/18/2016

Baton Rouge cop killer Gavin Eugene Long wrote a self-help trilogy targeted at black people, titled “The Cosmo Way: A W(H)olistic Guide for the Total Transformation of Melanated People,” in which he claimed that black people are genetically superior to white people.

Long wrote all three books under the name Cosmo Setepenra — the same name he used on YouTube and Twitter and for his website. As originally reported by The Daily Caller, Long railed against “crackers” and claimed to have been a Nation of Islam member in the videos. Speaking of the trilogy in one of the YouTube videos, Long said, “I wrote it for my dark-skinned brothers.”

In Volume II of the series, titled “The Ascension,” Long claims that — because they have more melanin — black people are superior to whites.

Chapter 2 of the book is titled “Melanin Power part II: Abilities.” In it, he writes: “Previously it was thought that Blacks were only superior physically to other races in regards to faculties such as muscle coordination, muscle strength and physical capacities (which is now blatantly obvious by the superiority maintained by Melanated people in the arena of sports and athletics.”)

Quote
“Lack of Melanin results in a lack of feeling, which automatically produces lack of compassion for oneself, nature, the creator, and for others,” he explains later.

Why don't you look at other countries who have legalized and actually find out what happens after legalization instead of reacting like that.

... you're right pac22, I have never really studied
much about other countries' experiences one way
or another. I know the Dutch (who de-criminalized
weed and the like - not HARD drugs) a long time ago
report that it is a positive thing ... and Portugal
de-criminalized all drugs a short time ago and report
some positive outcomes. But, it seems counter-intuitive
to think open, unfettered drug availability is a good thing.
(And I can't say how the US population, especially in the
drug-ridden inner cities, would compare to the populations
of the much smaller Euro countries)

I live in NM and go up into Colorado quite often and
find it downright bizarre to be around govt-sanctioned,
open pot smoking ... kids all around, etc ... can't
imagine open, approved use of hard drugs.

Legal dangerous drugs only make sense if you
believe drugs are a positive thing, IMO. Today, I
am almost drug free ... no alcohol, only one
small dose of one thyroid drug, (and I am an OLD
diabetic), no 'processed foods' tainted with all
sorts of drugs & drug-like molecules ... so perhaps
it is just my JUST SAY NO attitiude to all drugs
that is talking!
