Perry orders tax cut for businesses
Dallas Business Journal - Austin Business Journal

About 370,000 Texas businesses will see a tax cut of $90 million, a decision that came because of the state's strong economy and low unemployment, said Gov. Rick Perry.

That cut will come from a one-year suspension of the Unemployment Insurance replenishment tax, a 0.12 percent tax. The Texas Workforce Commission approved the suspension after a study of employment figures and economic forecasts indicated the state has enough money in reserve to meet unemployment obligations in 2008, the governor's office said in a release.

"I believe in truth-in-budgeting: when government levies a tax and collects more money than is needed, we must either stop collecting the tax, return the money or both," said Perry. "Thanks to our healthy economy and low unemployment rate last year, the state collected more money for the unemployment trust fund than we need, which is why I'm directing the state to bring that tax to a screeching halt for this year."

Texas created more jobs than any other state in 2007. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national unemployment rate as of February, 2008, was 4.8 percent, and as of December 2007, Texas' unemployment rate was 4.2 percent.

Some businesses who owe unemployment taxes will still receive a surplus tax credit. Because the workforce commission paid off bonds issued in 2003 early, Texas employers could also save $270 million on taxes.

NO! Perry should be tarred and feathered!  Now the Texans will be burden because Perry gives a pass to Corporations.

listen to the underlaying history lesson on the link between enron ceo -> phil gram's wife as secretary to ceo -> phil gram as senator -> george bush / perry passing legislation changes as president -> and two major nationwide crisis in phil's lifetime. (enron, now derivatives) that is a smoking gun. this man is greedy and dangerous and should not be anywhere near our lawmaking machine. i want to see that more thoroughly researched. i wonder if that documentary "Inside Job" interviewed him. ... Do Phil Gramm and his wife look Chinese to you?
