Job well done,  CDC:30% increase now 1 in 42 boys now have autisim.

Also Roundup  aka  glyphosate in urine is not being studied ....

"... crops absorb glyphosate through direct application and from the soil and it cannot be washed off. It is in the food. Glyphosate has also been found in rivers, streams, air and rain. "

I have yet to find one study of glyphosate levels in urine of people anywhere in the U.S.A. ! ! !  NOT ONE.

Critics have argued for decades that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup and other herbicides used around the globe, poses a serious threat to public health. Industry regulators, however, appear to have consistently overlooked their concerns.

A comprehensive review of existing data released this month by Earth Open Source, an organization that uses open-source collaboration to advance sustainable food production, suggests that industry regulators in Europe have known for years that glyphosate, originally introduced by American agricultural biotechnology giant Monsanto in 1976, causes birth defects in the embryos of laboratory animals.
...
The agency reached that conclusion despite almost half a dozen industry studies that found glyphosate produced fetal malformations in lab animals, as well as an independent study from 2007 that found that Roundup induces adverse reproductive effects in the male offspring of a certain kind of rat.

Roundup weedkiller 'probably' causes cancer, says WHO study

The Monsanto product – the world’s most widely used herbicide – contains glyphosate, which may also be carcinogenic for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma

Roundup, the world’s most widely used weedkiller, “probably” causes cancer, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) – WHO’s cancer agency – said that glyphosate, the active ingredient in the herbicide made by agriculture company Monsanto, was “classified as probably carcinogenic to humans”.

It also said there was “limited evidence” that glyphosate was carcinogenic in humans for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Monsanto, the world’s largest seed company, said scientific data did not support the conclusions and called on WHO to hold an urgent meeting to explain the findings. “We don’t know how IARC could reach a conclusion that is such a dramatic departure from the conclusion reached by all regulatory agencies around the globe,” said Philip Miller, Monsanto’s vice-president of global regulatory affairs.

Concerns about glyphosate on food have been widely debated in the US recently, and contributed to the passage in Vermont last year of the country’s first mandatory labelling law for genetically modified food.

The US government considers the herbicide to be safe. In 2013, Monsanto requested and received approval from the US Environmental Protection Agency for increased tolerance levels for glyphosate.
...

The weedkiller has been detected in food, water and in the air after it has been sprayed, according to the report from WHO. However, glyphosate use is generally low in and near homes where the general public would face the greatest risk of exposure, the report said.

Ecologist Claims Monsanto’s Glyphosate is Safe to Drink, Refuses to Drink It

Lobbyist Claims Monsanto's Roundup Is Safe To Drink, Freaks Out When Offered A Glass

In an interview with reporters from Canal+, ecologist Dr. Patrick Moore, claims that Monsanto’s Roundup ready ingredient, Glyphosate, is safe to drink. When offered a glass by the interviewer, he refuses, saying “I’m not an idiot.” The clip is from Canal+, a French TV network, that’s currently working on a Special Investigations Documentary.

Some news organizations have identified Dr. Moore as a lobbyist for Monsanto. However, Monsanto has come forward with the following claim:

Dr. Moore is not a Monsanto lobbyist or employee. Knowledgeable scientists, consumers and our farmer customers may be familiar with and confident in the safety of glyphosate, but their statements don’t make them lobbyists for our company. Dr. Patrick Moore is one of those individuals. He agrees with the science that supports the safety of glyphosate, and is an advocate for technology and innovation. But as I mentioned, he is not and never has been a paid lobbyist for or employee at Monsanto.

\
....
So lets talk about what really happened: For many years, my opponents have claimed that I am a paid lobbyist for GMO seed companies, in particular Monsanto. This is a technique used to avoid debating the science that proves Golden Rice and GM foods are safe. Monsanto has now issued a statement that I have never been employed by them (link 2 below) so I will no longer have to put up with that lie. Personally, I admire Monsanto’s leadership in improving many crop varieties, through both conventional breeding and transgenic breeding. Unfortunately, I accidentally gave my opponents another distraction to use while being interviewed on French TV a few months back. I was extremely upset with this interviewer as he lured me to an interview under false pretences. It was meant to be an interview on Golden Rice and he pulled a stunt on me. The video has since been cleverly edited to distort my actual opinions on the subjects discussed.

I did not intend to say that glyphosate was “safe” to drink, it is not intended for consumption. My point was that in almost all cases it is non-lethal to drink in large quantities and therefore ‘safe’ in the manner that it is used in farming worldwide. - See more at: http://disinfo.com/2015/03/ecologist-claims-monsantos-glyphosate-is-safe-to-drink-refuses-to-drink-it/#sthash.BLt3ABlV.dpuf

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Moore_(environmentalist)

Patrick Moore (born 1947) is a Canadian ecologist. He is the leader of Ecosense Environmental in Vancouver, a consulting firm that provides advice, lectures, opinions and committee participation to government and industry on a wide range of environmental and sustainability issues.[citation needed] He used to be an early member of Greenpeace, in which he was an environmental activist from 1971 to 1986. He is a frequent public speaker at meetings of industry associations, universities, and policy groups.[citation needed]
...
In 2006, Moore became co-chair (with Christine Todd Whitman) of a new industry-funded initiative, the Clean and Safe Energy Coalition, which promotes increased use of nuclear energy.[28][29] In 2010, Moore was recruited to represent the Indonesian logging firm Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), a multi-national accused by activist groups of widespread and illegal rainforest clearance practices, although this is strongly disputed by Moore

He has sharply and publicly differed with many policies of major environmental groups, such as Greenpeace itself, on other issues including forestry, biotechnology, aquaculture, and the use of chemicals for many applications.[3] According to Greenpeace, he is "a paid spokesman for the nuclear industry, the logging industry, and genetic engineering industry."[4] He is an outspoken proponent of nuclear energy[5] and skeptical of sole human responsibility for climate change.

...

Genetically modified foods

In 2006, Moore addressed a Biotechnology Industry Organization conference in Waikiki saying, "There's no getting away from the fact that over 6 billion people wake up each day on this planet with real needs for food, energy and materials", and need genetically engineered crops to this end.[47]

Moore supports the adoption of golden rice to prevent vitamin A deficiency.[48]

Health effects of glyphosate

During a March, 2015 video interview with French television station Canal+, Moore was asked about the safety of the herbicide glyphosate. Moore told the interviewer that one "could drink a whole quart of it" without any harm. When Moore was challenged to drink a glass of the weedkiller, he refused, and ended the interview.[51][52] The interview came shortly after the release of a World Health Organization (WHO) report adding glyphosate to a list of probable carcinogens.[53][54][55]

...

Dr. Potrykus and his colleagues found it very difficult to win approval for Golden Rice in the countries where vitamin A deficiency was most severe. The anti-GM movement had succeeded in erecting resistance to approval even for field trials. They decided to form an organization, the Humanitarian Golden Rice Project, and to recruit support from key organizations. These include HarvestPlus (which in turn is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the World Bank), the Swiss Development and Collaboration Agency, USAID, and the Syngenta Foundation, together with local research institutes and several nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), including the Rockefeller Foundation and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).1

...
In 2012, Joint American and Chinese scientists published new research on Golden Rice in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showing that the beta carotene produced by Golden Rice is as good as beta carotene in oil at providing vitamin A to children

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetically_modified_rice
Golden rice was originally created by Dr. Ingo Potrykus and his team in Zurich, Switzerland.[12] This genetically modified rice is capable of producing beta-carotene in the endosperm (grain) which is a pre cursor for vitamin A production.[

Syngenta was involved in the early development of Golden Rice and held some intellectual property on Golden Rice,[12] but has since handed it over to non-profit institutes including the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) to develop on a non-profit basis.[13] The scientific details of the rice were first published in Science in 2000.[14]

Golden Rice plants being grown in greenhouse
The World Health Organization has stated that iron deficiency affects 30% of the world's population. Research scientists from the Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics (ACPFG) are helping to address this issue as part of broader program with HarvestPlus and IRRI to increase the amount of iron in rice.[15] They have modified three populations of rice by over expressing the genes: OsNAS1, OsNAS2 or OsNAS3. The research team found that nicotianamine, iron, and zinc concentration levels increased in all three populations of rice relative to the controls.[11]

http://sustainablepulse.com/2014/01/13/gmo-golden-rice-scientific-realities/
Golden Rice (GR) is genetically engineered to contain increased levels of beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A (also known as provitamin A). The rice is claimed to help cure blindness and other illnesses caused by vitamin A deficiency in the Third World. It is also claimed that opposition to GR by environmentalists and anti-GMO activists has caused millions to die or go blind in the developing world.

...

GR is not needed

GR is an expensive and unproven ‘solution’ to a problem for which better solutions exist. It has swallowed millions in development money and yet is still not ready.

In contrast, World Health Organisation programs to combat vitamin A deficiency are cheap, already available – and proven to work. They focus on methods such as educating people to grow green leafy vegetables in kitchen gardens, encouraging breastfeeding of babies, and giving supplements and fortified foods when necessary. Research by Dr Vandana Shiva’s organization Navdanya in India has calculated that green leafy vegetables are up to 3500% richer in beta-carotene than GR.

...

Other problems with GR include:

1. Hidden Information on GR’s Genetic Makeup.   There has been no adequate characterisation of GR in the peer-reviewed literature. Where there is secrecy, there is mistrust.
...
6.  No proof that GR is safe to eat.   Genetic modification can result in novel toxins or allergens being created in plants, or changes in nutritional value. New toxins or allergens can appear even if the gene of interest is taken from a non-toxic source, since changes can happen after the gene is inserted into the new host plant. Such unexpected changes are difficult to detect without dedicated animal feeding safety trials. One potential hazard, as pointed out by Prof David Schubert of the Salk Institute in the USA, is associated with retinoic acid, a vitamin A derivative which can damage human fetuses and cause birth defects
...
Until such studies have been published in the peer-reviewed literature, GR has not been proven safe to eat.

7.  Unethical Trials on Humans.   Even though GR has not been tested for unexpected toxins or allergens in animal feeding trials, the Golden Rice Humanitarian Board, in conjunction with Tufts University, has conducted three feeding experiments on humans. One included the use of children “without adequate vitamin A nutrition” .  In 2009 a group of 32 scientists complained to Tufts about this breach of medical ethics and the Nuremburg Code. When the research resulted in the publication of two papers (in 2009 and 2012), there was a furore in China due to the use of children in one experiment without informed consent. The revelation led to the sacking of three Chinese officials and the forced retirement of the lead researcher at Tufts.

USA: Glyphosate use increases to 128,000 tons per year
Environmental Protection Agency intervenes

2 April 2015 / According to new government data, glyphosate use in the US has increased over the years 2002 to 2012 from 49,000 tons to 128,000 tons annually. Now, the US Environmental Protection Agency has responded and wants to enforce limits that industry and farmers must adhere to when using the herbicide. This was reported by Reuters.

Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide worldwide. Heavy use of glyphosate has led to huge problems with weeds that have become resistant to the herbicide, especially in countries which grow genetically engineered crops. Currently, there are 32 different weed species with glyphosate resistance worldwide. The consequences have been an increased use of glyphosate and increasing residues in food and feed produced from crops such as genetically modified soybeans. In 2013, an analysis commissioned by Testbiotech showed that transgenic soybeans from Argentina contained glyphosate residue levels five times higher than the valid limit in the EU.

Only recently, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) reclassified the herbicide glyphosate as "probably carcinogenic". According to the agency, animal experiments have also shown that glyphosate can cause DNA and chromosome damage.

The IARC evaluation on the health risks associated with glyphosate contrasts sharply with its previous classification of the active substance in the EU. A Testbiotech report pulished in 2014, highlighted the gaps in risk assessment carried out by the German authorities and showed that the risks were not sufficiently taken into account.

Monsanto responded furiously to the IARC results even though actual IARC report had not been published. Monsanto has demanded the withdrawal of study and heaped contempt on the work of the IARC calling it "junk science".

The active ingredient glyphosate is currently undergoing a reapproval process in the EU, with Germany as the lead nation.

In 2014, the competent authorities, including the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) and the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) published a comprehensive report (Renewal Assessment Report) and forwarded it for further evaluation to the European Food Safety Authority. According to the German authorities, there were no health risks associated with glyphosate. The report even included the recommendation that the maximum limit values for consumers might be increased.

Weed-Whacking Herbicide Proves Deadly to Human Cells

Used in gardens, farms, and parks around the world, the weed killer Roundup contains an ingredient that can suffocate human cells in a laboratory, researchers say

Jun 23, 2009 |By Crystal Gammon and Environmental Health News
...
Glyphosate, Roundup’s active ingredient, is the most widely used herbicide in the United States.  About 100 million pounds are applied to U.S. farms and lawns every year, according to the EPA.

Until now, most health studies have focused on the safety of glyphosate, rather than the mixture of ingredients found in Roundup. But in the new study, scientists found that Roundup’s inert ingredients amplified the toxic effect on human cells—even at concentrations much more diluted than those used on farms and lawns.

One specific inert ingredient, polyethoxylated tallowamine, or POEA, was more deadly to human embryonic, placental and umbilical cord cells than the herbicide itself – a finding the researchers call “astonishing.”

This clearly confirms that the [inert ingredients] in Roundup formulations are not inert,” wrote the study authors from France’s University of Caen. “Moreover, the proprietary mixtures available on the market could cause cell damage and even death [at the] residual levels” found on Roundup-treated crops, such as soybeans, alfalfa and corn, or lawns and gardens.

The research team suspects that Roundup might cause pregnancy problems by interfering with hormone production, possibly leading to abnormal fetal development, low birth weights or miscarriages.
...
“The authorizations for using these Roundup herbicides must now clearly be revised since their toxic effects depend on, and are multiplied by, other compounds used in the mixtures,” Seralini’s team wrote.

Controversy about the safety of the weed killer recently erupted in Argentina, one of the world’s largest exporters of soy.

Last month, an environmental group petitioned Argentina’s Supreme Court, seeking a temporary ban on glyphosate use after an Argentine scientist and local activists reported a high incidence of birth defects and cancers in people living near crop-spraying areas. Scientists there also linked genetic malformations in amphibians to glysophate. In addition, last year in Sweden, a scientific team found that exposure is a risk factor for people developing non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
...
POEA was recognized as a common inert ingredient in herbicides in the 1980s, when researchers linked it to a group of poisonings in Japan. Doctors there examined patients who drank Roundup, either intentionally or accidentally, and determined that their sicknesses and deaths were due to POEA, not glyphosate.
...
"POEA helps glyphosate interact with the surfaces of plant cells," explained Negin Martin, a scientist at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in North Carolina, who was not involved in the study

1. Glyphosate Found in People’s Urine

It has been revealed by numerous scientists that herbicides and pesticides bioaccumulate in the body, eventually leading to a toxic overload of sorts. One study conducted by a German university found very high concentrations of glyphosate in all urine samples tested. The amount of glyphosate found in the urine was staggering, with each sample containing concentrations at 5 to 20-fold the limit established for drinking water. But this is just a single piece of evidence that pesticides are out of control.
...

2. Glyphosate Found in Breast Milk

Very recently, the Organic Consumers Association have demanded that U.S. regulators such as the FDA, EPA, and USDA ban glyphosate as many other communities and even nations have. Why? Because a new piece of research found that the toxic ingredient is actually found in the breast milk of women, leading to damage to underdeveloped human beings.

Moms Across America and Sustainable Pulse found ‘high’ levels in 3 out of the 10 samples tested. The levels found in the breast milk testing of 76 ug/l to 166 ug/l are 760 to 1600 times higher than the European Drinking Water Directive allows for individual pesticides.

“The mothers tested are mostly familiar with GMOs and glyphosate. Most of them have been trying to avoid GMOs and glyphosate for several months to two years, so the levels of mothers who are not aware of GMOs and glyphosate may be much higher,” Moms Across America Founder and Director, Zen Honeycutt, stated.
...
3. Glyphosate Found in our Blood

In addition to being found in urine and breast milk, glyphosate has also been found in people’s blood in 18 different countries. A new study entitled, ‘The effect of metabolites and impurities of glyphosate on human erythrocytes (in vitro),’ explains just how RoundUp chemicals are invading our human blood.

Researchers exposed participants’ blood to different levels of glyphosate consistent with the ranges and concentrations which have already been well established in our drinking water, air, soil and food – between .01-5 millimolar (mM) for 1, 4, and 24 hours. What they found was that glyphosate and other ingredients in RoundUp lead to ‘slightly significant’ negative effects on red blood cells. In other words, our blood is simply not ‘RoundUp Ready’

Contamination of Human Urine
To determine if only individuals who are in direct contact with contaminated feed or glyphosate laced compounds are
at risk of glyphosate poisoning a study was conducted in December 2011 of an urban population in Berlin. The urine of city workers, journalists and lawyers, who had no direct contact with glyphosate, was examined for glyphosate contamination(*).

The study found glyphosate in all urine samples at values ranging from 0.5 to 2 ng glyphosate per ml urine (drinking water limit: 0.1 ng/ml). None of the examinees had direct contact with agriculture.
...

Death-spray before Harvests
Glyphosate probably entered human populations over the past 10 years through its increasing presence in daily foods
such as meat and dairy products, vegetable and fruit produce and grains products.

...

Other Applications of Glyphosate
Municipalities and cities use glyphosate-containing compounds for weed management on public spaces such as kindergartens, schools and parks, as well as roads and roadsides.

...
We should ask ourselves what our health is worth to us and whether we want ourselves and our children to consume more and more glyphosate in the future. There were alternatives to DDT, and there are alternatives to Roundup now. It is up to consumers, farmers and the relevant agencies to stop to the accumulation of glyphosate in our food supply and environment.

Field Investigations of Glyphosate in Urine of Danish Dairy Cows
Published August 23, 2013

Abstract

In the present study, thirty dairy cows from each of eight Danish dairy farms were investigated for excretion of glyphosate in urine. Blood serum parameters indicative of cytotoxicity as alkaline phosphatase (AP), glutamate dehydrogenase (GLDH), glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), creatinine kinase CK), nephrotoxicity, (urea, creatine), cholesterol and the trace elements as manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co), selenium (Se), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) were investigated.

All cows excreted glyphosate in their urine but in varying concentrations. Increased levels of GLDH, GOT and CK in cows from all farms demonstrate a possible effect of glyphosate on liver and muscle cells. High urea levels in some farms could be due to nephrotoxicity of glyphosate.

Also the unexpected very low levels of Mn and Co were observed in all animals which could be explained due to a strong mineral chelating effect of glyphosate. In contrast the mean levels of Cu, Zn and Se were within the normal reference range. In conclusion, this study gives the first documentation to which extent Danish dairy cattle are exposed to Glyphosate and its impact on blood parameters.

http://www.gmeducation.org/farming/p217384-higher-levels-of-glyphosate-found-in-chronically-ill-people.html
Higher levels of glyphosate found in chronically ill people

(20th March 2014) A new analysis shows that levels of glyphosate - the active ingredient in the Monsanto's herbicide Roundup - are significantly higher in people who are chronically ill.
...
The study results, released ahead of publication in the Journal of Environmental and Analytical Toxicology, showed that cows kept in GM-free regions had significantly lower glyphosate levels than those that were conventionally reared. Sampled organs and tissues from all cows revealed the presence of glyphosate; how the cows were reared did not affect this result.

....

Amongst humans, glyphosate levels were significantly higher in those who ate a largely conventional diet compared to those who ate an organic diet. The researchers also grouped their findings according to the health of the humans – those who were chronically ill had significantly higher glyphosate residues in their urine.

They conclude that the “presence of glyphosate in urine and its accumulation in animal tissues is alarming even at low concentrations. Unknown impacts of glyphosate on human and animal health warrants further investigations of glyphosate residues in vertebrates and other non-target organisms.”

...

In the study the researchers note: “Once applied, glyphosate accumulates in leaves, grains or fruit. Glyphosate residues cannot be removed by washing and they are not broken down by cooking. Glyphosate residues can remain stable in foods for a year or more, even if the foods are frozen, dried or processed.”

In other words once it is in your food supply there is nothing you can do to protect yourself (except eat organic food).

...

In a study of Ontario farming populations, exposure to glyphosate nearly doubled the risk of late miscarriages in humans. In addition, the ethoxylated surfactant in the Roundup formulation doubled the toxic effect of the glyphosate.

...
As studies like this accumulate, the credibility of those who continue to promote glyphosate and Roundup as ‘safe’, it seems, is rapidly disappearing.

Glyphosate linked to epidemic of kidney failure, but regulation obstructed

The Swiss-based International Journals of Environmental Research and Public Health published a research paper pointing to glyphosate may be behind an epidemic of mystery kidney disease killing over 20,000 in Sri Lanka alone.

For more than two years, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists has been monitoring a previously rare form of kidney disease now devastating agricultural workers in Central America, Sri Lanka and India.

Scientists suspect it is caused by exposure to toxins such as pesticides and exacerbated by dehydration while working the plantations in heat.

On March 12, a Sri Lankan minister announced that President Rajapaksa, after receiving a scientific report that “revealed that kidney disease was mainly caused by glyphosate,” was banning the herbicide. The decision followed publication of a scientific paper that attributed widespread kidney failure to the herbicide.

...
Glyphosate bonds with toxic heavy metals in the environment such as cadmium and arsenic, forming stable compounds that are consumed in food and water and do not break down until reaching victims’ kidneys

...
It is worth noting that glyphosate was initially patented as a chelating agent, a substance useful in industrial processes for its ability to form strong chemical bonds with metals
...

... data from the USDA, National Cancer Institutes, Centers for Disease Control, have recently surfaced, depicting at steep rise in the rates of kidney disease in the US from the time of the introduction of glyphosate and GM food (engineered primarily to withstand massive application of the herbicide). The death rates more than doubled over the past 30 years

Newly Released: Study Confirms Chronic Kidney Failure 5 Times Higher in Glyphosate-Ridden Areas
Yet Monsanto claims it is safe
by Christina Sarich
Posted on March 5, 2015

...

A new study has just been published showing that farmers in Sri Lanka exposed to glyphosate through drinking water are 5 times more likely to develop chronic kidney failure than those who don’t drink herbicide-polluted water.
...

To summarize the study, Dr. Channa Jayasumana states:

“Drinking well water and occupational exposure to Herbicides is associated with chronic kidney disease, in Padavi-Sripura, Sri Lanka.”
...

Another study published in the Journal of Organic Systems also found a link between glyphosate and the enormous increase in chronic diseases across the United States.

It has already been established, through groundbreaking research that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s broad-spectrum herbicide Round Up, might be “a crucially important factor in the development of multiple chronic diseases and conditions.”

see: http://www.organic-systems.org/journal/92/abstracts/Swanson-et-al.html

"
A huge increase in the incidence and prevalence of chronic diseases has been reported in the United States (US) over the last 20 years. Similar increases have been seen globally. The herbicide glyphosate was introduced in 1974 and its use is accelerating with the advent of herbicide-tolerant genetically engineered (GE) crops. Evidence is mounting that glyphosate interferes with many metabolic processes in plants and animals and glyphosate residues have been detected in both. Glyphosate disrupts the endocrine system and the balance of gut bacteria, it damages DNA and is a driver of mutations that lead to cancer.

smoking gun ... cancer studies hidden ...

http://www.gmfreecymru.org/documents/monsanto_knew_of_glyphosate.html
Monsanto knew of glyphosate / cancer link 35 years ago
GM-Free Cymru Special Report
8th April 2015

...

With Monsanto continuing to protest that glyphosate and Roundup are effectively harmless (5) if used according to instructions, in spite of accumulating evidence to the contrary, we undertook a search through Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) records with a view to finding out what was known about glyphosate at the time of its initial registration. This followed up earlier investigations by Sustainable Pulse which highlighted a sudden change in the EPA view on toxicity in 1991. What was discovered was very revealing. There were many animal experiments (using rats, mice and dogs) designed to test the acute and chronic toxicity of glyphosate in the period 1978-1986, conducted by laboratories such as Bio/dynamics Inc for Monsanto and submitted for EPA consideration. Two of these reports relate to a three-generation reproduction study in rats (6) (7), and another is called "A Lifetime Feeding Study Of Glyphosate In Rats" (8); but like all the other older studies they were and still are treated as Trade Secrets and cannot be freely accessed for independent scrutiny. That in itself is suggestive that the studies contain data which Monsanto still does not wish to be examined by experts in the toxicology field. It is also deeply worrying that EPA acceded to the routine Monsanto requests for secrecy on the flimsiest of pretexts.

However, archived and accessible EPA Memos from the early 1980's do give some indications as to what the rat studies contain (9). Although the studies predate the adoption of international test guidelines and GLP standards they suggest that there was significant damage to the kidneys of the rats in the 3-generational study -- the incidence of tubular dilation in the kidney was higher in every treated group of rats when compared to controls. Tubular dilation and nephrosis was also accompanied by interstitial fibrosis in all test groups and in some of the lumens the researchers found amorphous material and cellular debris. Less than a third of the control rats showed signs of tubular dilation.

In the rat study results, the changes in the bladder mucosa are significant because metabolites, concentrated by the kidneys, have led to hyperplasia that could be considered as a very early and necessary step in tumour initiation. EPA was worried in 1981 that these indications were sinister, and at first declined to issue a NOEL (no observed adverse effect level) -- it asked for further information and additional research.

In its 1982 Addendum, Monsanto presented evidence that minimised the effects and confused the data -- and on that basis EPA accepted that glyphosate was unlikely to be dangerous. But Monsanto knew that scrutiny of the data in the studies would potentially threaten its commercial ambitions, and so it asked for the research documents concerned to be withheld and treated as Trade Secrets. So there was no effective independent scrutiny. Monsanto and EPA connived in keeping these documents away from unbiased expert assessment, in spite of the evidence of harm. (It is clear that EPA was thinking about carcinogenic effects -- it knew in 1981 that glyphosate caused tumorigenic growth and kidney disease but dismissed the finding as "a mystery" in order to set the NOEL for the chemical and bring it to market.)

In the rat studies, the glyphosate doses fed to the test groups were 1/100 of those used in a later mouse study (9). It is unclear why these very small doses were decided upon by Monsanto and accepted by EPA, since there must be a suspicion that the studies were manipulated or designed to avoid signs of organ damage. In its 1986 Memo, EPA remarked on the very low doses, and said that no dose tested was anywhere near the "maximally tolerated dose." Then the Oncogenicity Peer Review Committee said: "At doses close to an MTD, tumours might have been induced." A repeat rat study was asked for. However, BioDynamics (which conducted the research for Monsanto) used data from three unrelated studies, which they conducted in house, as historical controls to create "experimental noise" and to diminish the importance of the results obtained by experiment.

...

Given the clear level of mistrust over the licensing of this herbicide and the emerging epidemiological evidence of its negative effects there can, in my opinion, be no case whatsoever for keeping the toxicological studies, used to justify licencing, a secret. They should be put in the public domain."

Research scientist Dr Anthony Samsel says: "Monsanto's Trade Secret studies of glyphosate show significant incidence of cell tumors of the testes and tumorigenic growth in multiple organs and tissues. They also show significant interstitial fibrosis of the kidney including effects in particular to the Pituitary gland, mammary glands, liver, and skin. Glyphosate has significant effects to the lungs indicative of chronic respiratory disease. Glyphosate has an inverse dose response relationship, and it appears that its effects are highly pH dependent.

Both Monsanto and the EPA knew of the deleterious effects of this chemical in 1980 at the conclusion of their multiple long-term assessments, but the EPA hid the results of their findings as "trade secrets."

Monsanto has been lying and covering up the truth about glyphosate's harmful effects on public health and the environment for decades. The increases in multiple chronic diseases, seen since its introduction into the food supply, continue to rise in step with its use. Monsanto's Roundup glyphosate based herbicides have a ubiquitous presence as residues in the food supply directly associated with its crop use. Nations must stand together against Monsanto and other chemical companies who continue to destroy the biosphere. We are all part of that biosphere and we are all connected. What affects one affects us all."

A Literature Review of Herbicide Toxicity to Humans
Focusing on herbicides used on the Flagstaff campus of Northern Arizona University
Erin Miller: Senior pursuing B.S. in Chemistry, Environmental Caucus, Northern Arizona University, Nov. 2012

Abstract

With the goal of reaching scientifically supported conclusions about the health effects of the five herbicides used on Northern Arizona University’s campus, this literature search was carried out over a span of several months. Scientific databases, journals, and websites were searched through for relevant, published, and peer-reviewed studies. The methodologies and
results of these studies were documented. In conjunction with one another, the studies provide strong evidence of an association between exposure to a majority of these herbicides and serious health problems.

...

 “The review team uncovered a remarkable consistency of findings of nervous system effects of pesticide exposures.” It was also consistently seen that children exposed to pesticides increasingly suffered from various cancers, including Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Leukemia.

While the Ontario College reviewed studies of numerous pesticides, not just those found on NAU’s campus, it reported negative health effects across all brands of commonly used pesticides and herbicides.

...

A trend is emerging that correlates the use of these chemicals with human illness, and this literature review is meant to shed light on the specific herbicides used on the NAU Flagstaff campus.

...

Several studies were found to arrive at conclusions generally similar to one another: Roundup and its individual ingredients – even those labeled as inert – are correlated with an increased risk of health problems. Rhinitis and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma are two examples of illnesses that, based on the results of above studies, are associated with exposure to glyphosate, the main ingredient of Roundup.

Study: Glyphosate Doubles Risk of Lymphoma
By   Emily Cassidy, Research Analyst
Friday, May 23, 2014

Scientists at the International Agency for Research on Cancer have found what appears to be a strong link between pesticide exposure and a blood cancer called non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Analyzing 44 individual research projects published since 1980, the scientists, writing in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, said that people exposed to the weed killer glyphosate, marked by Monsanto under the brand name Roundup, had double the risk of developing non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Those exposed to 2,4-D, another potent weed killer marketed by Dow Chemical, were 40 percent more likely to develop this disease.

The authors, scientists who work in the IARC Section of Environment and Radiation in Lyon, France, theorized that these pesticides were causing genetic mutations in white blood cells, thereby weakening the body’s immune system and ability to fight off disease.

Previous studies have observed that farmers with exposure to 2,4-D have experienced impaired immune systems.

Rhinitis associated with pesticide exposure among commercial pesticide applicators in the Agricultural Health Study.
Slager RE1, Poole JA, LeVan TD, Sandler DP, Alavanja MC, Hoppin JA.
RESULTS:

74% of commercial pesticide applicators reported at least one episode of rhinitis in the past year (current rhinitis). Five pesticides used in the past year were significantly positively associated with current rhinitis: the herbicides 2,4-D, glyphosate and petroleum oil, the insecticide diazinon and the fungicide benomyl. The association for 2,4-D and glyphosate was limited to individuals who used both in the past year (OR 1.42, 95% CI 1.14 to 1.77). Both petroleum oil and diazinon showed consistent evidence of an association with rhinitis, based on both current use and exposure-response models. We saw no evidence of confounding by common agricultural rhinitis triggers such as handling grain or hay.

CONCLUSIONS:

Exposure to pesticides may increase the risk of rhinitis.

Quaker Oats is being sued for $5million by a man who claims they use a dangerous weed killer during production.

Lewis Daly from Brooklyn, New York, has filed a lawsuit against the company, saying their advertising is 'false, deceptive and misleading'.

He says the carcinogenic substance, glyphosate, is used to grow the oats and is sprayed on them during harvest.

...

The chemical, he says, undermines the Chicago-based firm's claim their products are '100 per cent Natural, the New York Post reports.

Glyphosate is a widely used herbicide which the World Health Organization declared as 'probably carcinogenic to humans' in 2015.

It has been linked to a number of cancers, including breast, thyroid, kidney, pancreas, liver, bladder and myeloid leukaemia.

As well as using the chemical as a weedkiller in growing the oats, more 'is sprayed on the oats as a drying agent shortly before harvest,' claims Daly in his Brooklyn federal court lawsuit.

In April, a new series of tests by the Alliance for Natural Health-USA has revealed popular breakfast foods including eggs, bagels, wholewheat bread and coffee creamers include 'alarming' levels of a widely-used agricultural herbicide.

Ten of the 24 foods - both organic and regular - tested contained traceable levels of glyphosate.

It is the active ingredient in the world's most widely used herbicide, Roundup, developed by Monsanto and first released in 1974.

Increasing scientific studies point to glyphosate residues being ubiquitous in the environment, raising fears it could be common in foods.

Glyphosate and its analogs are known endocrine disrupters for humans.

I compiled some articles on glyphosate on this thread
in the health forum.  It's turning up in beer in Germany.
The big farmers in my area have been bitching for over
a year now, it is no longer killing the weeds.  They're not
sure now what to do/use.

Here's the thread with some telling articles -

UCSF Presentation Reveals Glyphosate Contamination in People across America

    Press Release:

UCSF Presentation Reveals Glyphosate Contamination in People across America

Media Embargo: 1:00 AM GMT, Wednesday 25th May 2016

    May 24 2016

Glyphosate, the most used herbicide in the World, has been found in the urine of 93% of the American public during a unique testing project that started in 2015.

Glyphosate, labeled a ‘Probable human carcinogen’ by the World Health Organization’s cancer agency IARC in 2015, has now been revealed to be ubiquitous in the first ever comprehensive and validated LC/MS/MS testing project to be carried out across America.

The European Union is currently in the process of putting restrictions on the use of glyphosate due to health concerns, with Member States so far unable to agree on the re-approval of the chemical beyond June 2016.
Glyphosate-containing herbicides are sold under trademarks such as Monsanto’s ‘Roundup’.

    Summary of Testing

        Urine and Water Testing Results

93% of the urine tested by the University of California San Francisco lab tested positive for glyphosate residues. No glyphosate was found in the tap water samples. These results are only from a small percentage of the total samples collected – more data will be released later in 2016.
The results of this bio-survey come from the first in-lab validated LC/MS/MS testing method used for glyphosate testing of the general public in America.

Is Glyphosate Safe at Real-Life Exposure Levels?:

Glyphosate has never been studied by regulators or the chemical industry at levels that the human population in the U.S. is being exposed to (under 3 mg/kg body weight/day). This is a huge hole in the global risk assessment of glyphosate, as there is evidence suggesting that low levels of the chemical may hack hormones even more than at mid and high levels, according to independent science – a higher dose does not necessarily make a more toxic, hormone disruptive effect.

        Unique Testing Project

The Detox Project is a unique platform for the testing of toxic chemicals in our bodies and in our food. The aim of the project is to cut out all conflicts of interest in chemical bio-surveys by allowing the public to pay directly for chemical testing that they are interested in.

    Urine and Water Testing Results

In a unique public testing project carried out by a laboratory at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), glyphosate was discovered in 93% of urine samples during the early phase of the testing in 2015.
The urine and water testing was organized by The Detox Project and commissioned by the Organic Consumers Association.

The unique project, which has already provided more urine samples for testing than any other glyphosate bio-monitoring urine study ever in America, was supported by members of the public, who themselves paid for their urine and water samples to be analyzed for glyphosate residues by the UCSF lab.

The data released in a presentation by the UCSF lab only covers the first 131 people tested. Further data from this public bio-monitoring study, which is now completed, will be released later in 2016.

The Detox Project will be working alongside a new larger lab later this year to enable the public to once again test their urine for glyphosate residues.

The UCSF full presentation of these initial results can be found here.

    The Results

Glyphosate was found in 93% of the 131 urine samples tested at an average level of 3.096 parts per billion (PPB). Children had the highest levels with an average of 3.586 PPB.

The regions with the highest levels were the West and the Midwest with an average of 3.053 PPB and 3.050 PPB respectively.

Glyphosate residues were not observed in any tap water samples during the early phase of the project, most likely due to phosphorus removal during water treatment.

The results from the UCSF urine testing in America showed a much higher frequency and average glyphosate level than those observed in urine samples in the European Union in 2013. The average level in Europe was around 1 PPB with a frequency of detection of 43.9%.

    The Method
Glyphosate (N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine ) is directly analyzed using liquid chromatography- tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Water and urine samples are prepared for analysis by solid phase extraction using an ion exchange column. Extracted samples are injected to the LC-MS/MS and the analyte is separated using an Obelisc N column (SIELC Technologies, Prospect Heights, IL) through isocratic elution. Ionization of glyphosate is achieved using an electrospray ionization source operated in negative polarity. The analyte is detected by multiple reaction monitoring using a 13C-labelled glyphosate as internal standard. Quantification of the analyte is done by isotope dilution method using an eight-point calibration curve.
The assay has a limit of quantification of 0.5 ng/mL. The intra- and inter-day precision observed are 6-15% in concentrations that range 0.5-80 ng/mL. Recoveries for glyphosate range 70-80% at concentrations within the assay’s linear dynamic range.

Glyphosate has never been studied by regulators or the chemical industry at levels that the human population in the U.S. is being exposed to (under 3 mg/kg body weight/day). This is a huge hole in the risk assessment process for glyphosate, as evidence suggests that low levels of the chemical may hack hormones even more than high levels – a higher dose does not necessarily mean a more toxic, hormone disruptive effect.

Industry funded science from the dark ages suggested that the higher the dose of a chemical the more dangerous it was. However, modern independent science has discovered that many toxic chemicals have as much or even more of an influence on our health at low doses– these chemicals are known as hormone hackers (endocrine disruptors).

A study from March 2015 stated that the health costs to the European Union of just some hormone hacking chemicals, in connection with a subset of illnesses known to be linked to hormone interference, is over EUR 150 Billion per year! The study stated that lower IQ, adult obesity and 5% or more of autism cases are all linked to exposure to endocrine disruptors.

Glyphosate is likely to be one of these hormone hacking chemicals at real-life exposure levels down to 0.1 ppb or below, according to independent science. Regulators and the chemical industry have simply not studied the toxic effects of glyphosate at real-life exposure levels. Find more information on this here.

“With increasing evidence from laboratory studies showing that glyphosate based herbicides can result in a wide range of chronic illnesses through multiple mechanisms, it has become imperative to ascertain the levels of glyphosate in food and in as large a section of the human population as possible. Thus the information gathered by the glyphosate public testing service being offered by the Detox Project is most timely and will provide invaluable information for the consumer and scientists like myself evaluating the toxicity of real world levels of exposure to this most widely used pesticide.”

“These results show that both the U.S. regulators have let down consumers in America. Independent science shows that glyphosate may be a hormone hacker at these real-life exposure levels found in the food products. The safe level of glyphosate ingestion is simply unknown despite what the EPA and Monsanto would have everyone believe.”

“The Detox Project which organized this testing is a research platform that brings awareness to the public by testing for toxic chemicals in our bodies and in our food at a very personal level. We believe everyone has the right to know what man-made toxic chemicals are in our bodies and in our food.”

Ronnie Cummins, International Director, Organic Consumers Association - https://www.organicconsumers.org/ , ronnie@organicconsumers.org

"If consumers had any doubt about the extent to which they are being poisoned by Monsanto's Roundup, these tests results should put those doubts to rest."

"These test results highlight the massive failure of U.S. regulatory agencies, including the EPA, USDA and FDA, to protect us even as they continue to perpetuate the myth that low-level exposure to glyphosate is harmless. We must bring down this poison-for-profit model and build in its place a food and farming system that regenerates and heals, before it's too late."

Moms Across America

Widespread Contamination of Glyphosate Weedkiller in California Wine

100% of wine tested showed positive results for Glyphosate weedkiller
Report
Zen Honeycutt March 24th, 2016
Concerned with the widespread contamination of glyphosate/Roundup and other glyphosate based herbicides from GMO chemical farming, Moms Across America has initiated the testing of glyphosate in water, urine, breast milk, Pediasure feeding tube
liquid given to pediatric patients with cancer, baby formula, and beverages. Since then, several groups have since reported finding glyphosate in cereal, bread, honey, cow’s milk, soy sauce, pet food, beer and more.

In this recent project, an individual and Moms Across America supporter sent ten wines, including organic and biodynamic, to be tested for glyphosate based herbicides

Results
On March 16th, 2016 Moms Across America received results from an anonymous supporter which commissioned Microbe Inotech Lab of St.Louis, Missouri that showed all ten of the wines tested positive for the chemical glyphosate, the declared “active”
ingredient in Roundup weedkiller and 700 other glyphosate based herbicides.

The highest level of glyphosate detected was up to 28.4 times higher than the other wines at 18.74 ppb from a 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from a conventional, chemically farmed vineyard.

The lowest level was from a biodynamic and organic vineyard, 2013 Syrah, which has never been sprayed according to the owner, with a level of .659 ppb.

An organic wine from 2012 mixed red wine grapes, had 0.913 ppb of glyphosate.

It is important to note that the detection of glyphosate is an indicator of the presence of many other coformulants
in glyphosate based herbicides
which have recently been shown by French scientist Seralini’s team to be endocrine  hormone disruptors and to be 1000x more toxic than glyphosate alone. (11)

Therefore, the type or amount of the coformulant chemicals in the wines are untested and the consequences on our health are unknown.

Thinking about this thread, it made me wonder about

also if it's passing through urine.

Seralini’s team wins defamation and forgery court cases on GMO and pesticide research

On 25 November 2015, the High Court of Paris indicted Marc Fellous, former chairman of France’s Biomolecular Engineering Commission, for “forgery” and “the use of forgery”, in a libel trial that he lost to Prof Gilles-Eric Séralini.
The Biomolecular Engineering Commission has authorised many GM crops for consumption.

As part of an upcoming documentary on the introduction of a genetically engineered chili pepper to New Mexico, I interviewed Professor Gil Seralini over Skype. Though technically this interview is plagued with problems, I wanted to get it up as soon as possible.

I found this interesting ... Gluten = equals - equates to - Glyphosate   ...

everyone is intolerant of glyphosate ... (ie -  roundup - BT - corn )

But Gluten is good for most ... so go organic ... without the roundup ...

My bloating is gone since I'm not eating gluten (95% glutenfree )my joints are not aching. The food is not cheap either. I think the digestive enzymes I'm taking are tremendously helpful too. My blood tested negative for celiac but the endoscopy I had showed that the villi in my duodenum was flattened and I had mild gastritis. Digestive enzymes are great.
