Roustabout Stanton Carlisle (Tyrone Power) joins a traveling carny and unsuccessfully schemes to figure out the mind-reading act of Mademoiselle Zeena (Joan Blondell) and her alcoholic husband, Pete (Ian Keith). But when Pete dies, Zeena is forced to take on Stanton as a partner, and he quickly proves more gifted than his predecessor. Both cased on true stories, these two movies show what happens when a security state gets out of hand. Don't think it can happen here? It already is.

In The Name Of The Father

Story of Gerry Conlon, purported ringleader of the Guildford Four, a group of three Irishmen and one English woman wrongly imprisoned for the 1974 IRA bombing of a pub in Guildford, England, that left five people dead. Conlon's father Guiseppe was subsequently imprisoned along with six other Conlon relatives who became known as the Maguire Seven.

Catch A Fire

A political thriller: the real-life story of a South African hero's journey to freedom. In the country's turbulent and divided times in the 1980s, Patrick Chamusso is an oil refinery foreman and soccer coach who is apolitical - until he and his wife Precious are jailed. Patrick is stunned into action against the country's oppressive reigning system, even as police Colonel Nic Vos further insinuates himself into the Chamussos' lives.

This country did not achieve greatness with the mindset of "safety first" but rather "live free or die".

Battleground
1949 Action / Drama / War

We follow a band of American soldiers as they engage the Germans in a snowy, foggy winter near Bastogne in World War II. They're low on fuel, rations, and ammunition; the Germans are constantly encouraging their surrender via radio and leaflets, and most importantly, the pervasive thick fog makes movement and identification difficult and prevents their relief by Allied air support. This film focuses much more on the psychology and morale of the soldiers than on action footage and heroics.

The film is notable for portraying American soldiers as vulnerable and human. While they remain steadfast and courageous, each soldier has at least one moment in the film when he seriously considers running away, schemes to get sent back from the front line, slacks off, or complains about the situation he is in. Battleground is considered to be the first significant American film about World War II to be made and released after the end of the war.

I never heard for that movie.
Anyway, Soviet, American ( till 70`s ) and Yugoslav war movies presented soldiers of Red Army, US soldiers, Tito`s partizans as Superheroes from comic box but German soldiers like robots.

P.S. In Belgrade (former Yugoslavia), recorded a popular TV series ("Тhe Written off") ( "Otpisani").
A classic communist falsification of history. Group of Communists in the occupied Belgrade killing dozens of German soldiers and collaborationist policemen.

Soviet state television liked the script and wanted to buy the TV series. However, when not only the Germans but also their associates presented as people of flesh and blood, Soviet television did not want to buy "Otpisani ". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071028/http://

"Rane". Time when I was a teenager. Maybe I was a nerd but I survive unlike the main actor - Dusan Pekic ( 1980-2000 ) who plays a wannabe gangster "Pinky". R.I.P.

Spotlight is a 2015 American biographical crime drama film directed by Tom McCarthy and written by McCarthy and Josh Singer.[4][5] The film follows The Boston Globe's "Spotlight" team, the oldest continuously operating newspaper investigative journalist unit in the United States,[6] and its investigation into cases of widespread and systemic child sex abuse in the Boston area by numerous Roman Catholic priests. It is based on a series of stories by the "Spotlight" team that earned The Globe the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.[7] The film stars Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, John Slattery, Stanley Tucci, Brian d'Arcy James, Liev Schreiber, and Billy Crudup.[8]

Spotlight was shown in the Out of Competition section of the 72nd Venice International Film Festival.[9] It was also shown at the Telluride Film Festival and the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.[10] The film was released on November 6, 2015, by Open Road

Yes. Jadran film Zagreb. Also in movie debunked myth about German discipline soldier ( J. Mason in one scene saws "they do not listen to me? " ), Director  Peckinpah showed Germans as humans and nonhumans, Russian front as hell on Earth and special interesting to me the Germans knew that they had already lose the war in 1943. ( after Stalingrad and Kursk ).

More than an hour of "torture and frost poor Germans" in Russia!
No soldier in Stalingrad not blame his "Fuehrer" to a situation where he was.
Artistic value is killed "political correctness" - are all to blame and no one is to blame. "
If you want to make a feature film about the battle of Stalingrad, I have already recommended the Hollywood version of "the enemies at the gates."
If someone prefers documentary films, "National Geographic" has made great show "Generali in the war" in which he missed Stalingrad
battle that broke the greatest conflict in the history of a
Hitler and his Nazis back to hell where they might come.

Just thought I would mention some good TV series, that you probably have missed in the lost colony

Taboo
SS GB
Miss Fisher

All of these have very high production standards. SS GB and Miss Fisher are derived from popular books.

We watched Inside Llewyn Davis tonight, a Coen Brother's movie.  Excellent, very well made.  And the actor in the title role was excellent.  It's a movie about folk singers and he played and sang his own material, which is rare for movie actors.

The movie made me think of once called Hank Williams: the Show he Never Gave.  Probably the best actor/musician performance I've ever seen on film.  It surprised me that the entire movie is on Youtube.  About 1.5 hours long:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0E_zv4BlkE

The actor who plays Hank Wms is Sneezy Waters.  He did stage performances of Hank Williams.  The movie was filmed in Canada I think, maybe on 16mm, so it looks pretty rough.  Waters is amazing though.  This is probably the best biopic I've ever seen.

If you like Hank Williams and haven't seen this, you might enjoy.
