Well Alex is right, the metal world is riddled with Satanism and death worship in an overt way that no other musical genre has gone to such dephts.  Both the popular stuff and the underground stuff, but there is good metal as well.  What should be mentioned from my perspective though, is that by and large metal musicianship is at such a higher median that virtually any other genre.

Skyclad were really cool,the venue we played in was a stage in the back of a biker bar,so it was nothing to be a rock star about,so he seemed pretty down to earth,though i did have my reservations about him from the stories i heard.
Carcass were really cool too,though this walk down memory lane reminds me of the time (this is going to upset our Christian friends here)but i went to see Deicide and before the gig myself and a couple of friends were drinking out side awaiting for the gig to start and the band came out including Glen Benton and i have to say they hung out with us,had a couple of beers,chatted and i have to they they were some of the nicest guys satanist or not.
I have also met Glen Danzig and Lars Ulrich and i can say with all honesty they are both dickheads.

As for Deicide, the only time I saw them was at a dive road house bar north of Albany, NY literally placed between the Mohawk river, a field, and a very large garbage dump about 2 years or so back. Glenn Benton kept shaking his head and exclaiming how he could not believe that a strong wind hadn't knocked the place over yet and thought it burned down in the late 80s, how he didn't want to be there, and threatening the owner with destroying the place and bodily harm if he didn't turn up the shoddy equipment more...  Anyway, it all seemed like a persona. Seriously, that band just must keep up that charade from attracting so much media back in day about their open support for animal sacrifice. Didn't Benton marry his wife in a christian church? ...anyway..
