GDP rose 0.3% on a seasonally-adjusted basis in the second quarter of 2012, compared to the first quarter, the federal statistics office, Destatis, reported Tuesday.

Compared to the same quarter a year ago, GDP rose 0.5% on an unadjusted basis and 1% on a calendar-adjusted basis.

Economists polled by FactSet Research were forecasting a rise of 0.2% on the quarter and 1.1% on an annual basis.

Also released Tuesday, French GDP was flat in the second quarter, versus the first, according to statistics agency Insee.

But that figure bettered the 0.1% decline that had been expected by economists at Dow Jones Newswires.

Euro-zone GDP readings for the second quarter are also due for release Tuesday.
