Chairman Ben Bernanke cited the weakening economic outlook for its decision to cut 3.5pc. Its the Fed's first three-quarter point cut since 1984 and the first emergency cut since the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The discount rate was cut by a similar amount to 4pc. Market watchers had speculated that the Fed would act after a day in which stock markets around the world suffered falls of more than 5pc. The FTSE 100 in London endured its biggest points loss ever. Nevertheless, the size of the cut took observers by surprise. The US markets had been closed yesterday for the Martin Luther King day holiday, but futures had pointed to the Dow opening a massive 500 points lower. The Fed had not been due to meet for another week but it said incoming information indicated a deepening of the housing market slump and a softening of the labour market, prompting it to act in a bid to alleviate the slowdown. For many people however, the move will be seen as too little too late, as some economists believe the US is already in recession. The FTSE 100, which had been trading around 30 point lower before the announcement, surged more than 100 points after the decision but quickly retreated. The decision by the Federal Open Markets Committee was not unanimous, with member William Poole saying no action should be taken until next week's meeting. However Ben Bernanke has hinted recently that the bank was prepared to take drastic action if warranted. Ron Carnell, economist at ING said: "The cut today raises the question of whether the Fed will cut again at their meeting next week, but we will need more time to reflect on this before we reach a conclusion. For now, we believe that this is probably not likely, but then the Fed has clearly decided to "cut rates first and ask questions later", so we cannot rule it out." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The dollar is officially DEAD!

Dow down 300.
Looks like they are trying to totally screw over the small investors
they panicked everyone to sell early
they cut the rates
the top banks (BOA, JP) have already recovered their losses
the small investors got f**ked all in one hour
Mission Accomplished!

Today was a CSCAM to f**k over small investors!
But get out of the market anyway!
This is Normandy!
It does not matter if you are an axis or ally
It is a blood bath
they are shaking the trees of all small investors to bust them
Dow recovered over 200 points already
this is a SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
