JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A dispute over military draft exemptions exposed cracks in Israel's ruling coalition on Monday, when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed a panel charged with drafting reforms of the law on the emotive issue.

Vice Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz, head of coalition partner Kadima, threatened to end their two-month-old alliance unless Netanyahu pushed for reforms to make more ultra-Orthodox Israelis and Arab citizens eligible for military or national service

I think a lot of Israelis are pissed that orthodox jews don't have to do national service and also don't work/have big families so need a lot of state help.

Ed.. Agreed, isn't their system similar to ours, on one side there are the ultra orthadox, a percent of their citizenry.
We had the draft, sure did, now its basically the poor, uneducated, or brain dipped who enlist, they don't require the draft at this   present time, but if involuntary service is put into effect the Senators sons will be on an equal with the Ultra orthadox.
My point, divisions are in evidence and have been for many moons.
